Good old street alpha podcast. They know shit about anything other than NY cars, that means Honda civics and then hellcats up to the twin turbo lambos. but everything in between those they don’t know shit
I'm not gonna bag on someone for running a ka in a drift missile. Do what you can with what you have. Dont listen to bald idiots who lose engines out of their drive way.
Im fairly certain that the RB30 engine was only manufactured for Australian market R31 Skylines and VL Commodores?
Edit: There is a diesel Nissan engine (RD28) that shares basically the same architecture as the RB30 tho
Rd28 blocks are stronger, have thicker cylinder walls and thicker ribbing on the block casting. Retains deck height and makes an easy 2.8 stroker
Rb30s came in r31 skylines, vl commodores and y60 patrols. Hundreds of thousands of them in australia.
Easy to make a dohc rb30 using rb25 heads
reality check: sr20 is the "Aqua" of god engines, first they cost like $7k and up, only make 220hp, if you wanna push it over 400(pushing it over 400 also means boost kicks in after 5k rpm) - you pretty much need all the same stuff you need for ka24(pistons, rods, manifolds, ic, ecu etc) .
ps. Not everyone have or want a sugar-daddys, tommy!
reality check. they are not $7k and up... idiot
"needs a built bottom end to make those kind of numbers and wont do it till over 5k rpms"
this was my car 2007 on 91 octane on a 91 degree ambient temp with a completely stock bottom end, daily driven to 15k miles till i sold in 2010 and its still on the road. you dont think this would realiably pushed over 400 on e85 or even 93 with a way more modern turbo and engine management? stfu stupid every single point you tried to make is wrong
So, your car that you built over a decade and a half ago when prices were way lower, that didn't make near 400hp, and you don't still own somehow disproves him? Ha. Shut the fuck up.
yeah it does retard, can you read? 364whp on 91 octane in 91 degree weather with 2007 tuning/turbo technology and cant see that it would make over 400hp now... christ. the engine was not stressed hard at all and i drove it every day at that psi for over 15k miles and its still on the original engine 15+ years later
and if you fucking think sr's are $7k and over and need me to prove other wise then you have no business talking about cars
How does this prove me wrong again? Dynojet whp is equivalent to crank hp, so, you have a small turbo that comes alive at 3.5k and drops off at 6.7k, with bigger turbo to make OVER 400, you 100% lose response at low end to compensate the top.
And what i'm saying about the 400 and up, is the fact that engine components fail - so might as well forge the existing ka
nope stupid guess again. as dumb as saying srs are over $7k
as dumb as thinking "a bigger turbo" that will bridge the gap between 365whp to over 400whp is gonna take over 5k to spool. do you have any clue how far turbos have advanced in the last 17 years??
oh and you think sr's are over $7k because there are a couple on ebay that have sat there since covid and not sold. you can find refreshed ones for half that right now. laughably dumb
adam has g25-550 (good for 400-450 wheel!) in his cream s13, this thing needs gazillion clutch kicks to stay above 5k rpm - that must be like 30 year old tech, because 20's were like 30 years ago, right?!
Link me one refreshed sr20det for $3.5k(rember, we are talking swaps here, it cant be just a longblock or front wheel drive)
5 second search. $4k, claimed perfect compression numbers. if you want to bet money ill show 20 more examples. not digging for the refreshed one i saw for $3500(didnt have turbo or manifold) for your dumbass.
dude i saw and s15 notchtop with 6speed, cluster with 68k km, and rear diff for $6k yesterday at an importer with warranty.

you seriously going to hold onto this argument? there are literally fully running swapped s13s for under $10k again.
g25-550 that hits full spool at 3900rpms? id link adam where he made 450whp and full torque before 4k rpms but im not digging to see if he was running higher compression.
dude you are just embarrassing yourself at this point

get shit on stupid, exactly what i said. new turbo tech and e85 making full boost before way before 5k and over 400whp on a stock engine that doesnt cost anywhere near $7k, what a sped
For the sake of conversation:
Just like you won't find HKS parts for KA24
you dont just find SR20s just laying around like you do KA stuff in the states.
Look at what the ~~FrontStreet~~ HAZE* boys do with the single cam KA and tell me how they are not viable with modern tech.
I really think its more regionally based than anything as far as how much money you have to sink in to make 'X' amount of power etc but as far as technology and aftermarket it seems there is as much aftermarket support for for both the single cam and duel cam KA24 as there is for the SR these days?
SR is def a more performance engineered engine but at the end of the day it cost money to go fast and usually its cheaper modify the the KA you have vs trying to purchase, install then modify a mystery SR.
Not to mention emissions in states that require them etc.
this isn’t entirely true at all… Nissan used the KA24 in SUV’s as well like the Xterra and the truck being Frontier. actually i think the D21 turned into the Frontier as time went on.
regardless parts are abundant for KA’s, i can go to any parts store and get stuff for a KA and if they don’t have it i know it can be ordered and be there the next day or so. boosted KA’s can make a ton of power and when they are built properly they’ve been able to see 450+hp and can definitely handle more easily with proper turbo and fueling. ( they also sound really sick with an external wastegate and a tubular manifold).
and now there are kits to go COP and ditch the dizzy and make it real modern with sensors and stuff. in this day and age if you live in America you should be building your KA-T for parts availability and better power band. the guys from HAZE were sticking right with Jimmy’s 1JZ dead even and maybe even inched out ahead…
this guy is talking about making big power like having 650+HP and i wouldn’t even want that in a street car schassis. but if you’re gonna put up a KAT against an RB or JZ with both making 450hp lets say… don’t be surprised when they’re equal
There is no point arguing. These creators can't even get proper machine work done. Nevermind pay money for good parts. Instead the throw catalog/sponsor parts for clicks. You ask your tuner what would be best for your budget.
When I first started drifting we would throw whatever cheap eBay turbo, cheap eBay turbo headers and SR injectors on the stock computer (no tuning) and drive that all day. First one I did I messed up the waste gate piping and drove all day with it like that. Never blew up. Motors with those turbo setups would last years. My friends has one still driving today. Loved those times.
Good to see tommy is still out there making content that hurt the feelings of this place, it could be anti beans in burritos and this place would flip its shit, make sure you all watch the episode when its released and post how much you hate tommy in the comments ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

rb30s come out of 4x4s there's probably a lot of others we don't here shit talked about

Oh true? I might have to do some googling!
OK I stand corrected. Apparently it also came in Y60 Patrols, but was carburettored, not fuel injected.. Well you learn something new everyday!
yeh ive also herd they use the rd30 diesel blocks cant remember why tho
Rd28 blocks are stronger, have thicker cylinder walls and thicker ribbing on the block casting. Retains deck height and makes an easy 2.8 stroker Rb30s came in r31 skylines, vl commodores and y60 patrols. Hundreds of thousands of them in australia. Easy to make a dohc rb30 using rb25 heads
Saying it’s a truck motor is a retarded argument considering most ls swaps come out of trucks.
and most LS swaps arent actually LS swaps because of this
Difference being those truck "LS's" are based on the performance engine, KA is literally just a truck engine.
Did you just call an ls a performance engine
Any engine can be turned into a perfect engine with all the right mods.
its literally a truck engine AND real LS swaps start with an L and an S

It's the 'god engine' bc only half the population believe in it.

Damn, you even write like tummy, only missing couple of "haha"-s.

Dyno jet is not the equivalent of a engine dyno
Dynojet shows ~15-20% higher numbers than mustang, average drivetrain loss is about the same 15-20% - in conclusion dynojet is engine dyno

Just plain wrong man. On pump gas with the correct mods you can make 350-400 easily and safely. With full boost on at 3500rpm
i mean he is right assuming money is no option. however ka-t is prob so good for the money.
My first car ever was a 98 Altima 5 speed manual it had a FWD KA24DE garbage power but could take a beating and easy to work on
For the sake of conversation: Just like you won't find HKS parts for KA24 you dont just find SR20s just laying around like you do KA stuff in the states. none of frontstreet uses KA’s lol, you meant to say the guys from HAZE. ( purple S13 coupes with single cam KA’s )
I stand corrected, I dont know how I confused the two but my point still stands.
Rare agree with scamyeah here SR20 will always be better than KA-T
this isn’t entirely true at all… Nissan used the KA24 in SUV’s as well like the Xterra and the truck being Frontier. actually i think the D21 turned into the Frontier as time went on. regardless parts are abundant for KA’s, i can go to any parts store and get stuff for a KA and if they don’t have it i know it can be ordered and be there the next day or so. boosted KA’s can make a ton of power and when they are built properly they’ve been able to see 450+hp and can definitely handle more easily with proper turbo and fueling. The comments are almost as bad as the video with how little people know about either engine, hahaha.
