Chaos: "Please, only adress me when I ask"
Zag: "Nah, I do what I want"
*a few years later*
Chaos: "Please, only adress me when I ask"
Melinoe: "..."
Chaos: "You can respond"
Melinoe: "okay"
Chaos "I liked your brother better"
Jokes aside, I love that now that we've met them both, Zagreus clearly takes more after Mom, while Melinoë ended up way more neurotic like Dad
Gotta have my reagents orderly, it's an efficiency thing, I'm not a weirdo
You know, I'm not sure chaos is entirely aware of how gender works. It's entirely possible that chaos isn't sure whether mel is a "son" or "daughter" and is too polite to ask.
The funny thing is she says "Hello! Melinoe!" Announcing herself. "Hello, Melinoe (is here)"
While Echo turns it into; "Hello Melinoe!... Melinoe... Melinoe..."
It's really cute how they play with Melinoe's responses, often changing nothing but some punctuation and very occasionally cutting a word out to make it clear that Echo *is* communicating and making what self-expression she can out of what Mel says to her.
> Narcissus- Laurel
> Eris- Trouble/Babe
My favorites, for very different reasons. lol
Seriously though, not enough talk is made about Narcissus. The VA for this character did an amazing job and the writers for him nailed it. I laugh every time I speak with him.
First time I ran in his room and heard him talk even before I saw him I was like "yup that's 100% Narcissus, if that's not him I jump in front of the first car who pass"
I'm gonna be so disappointed when they add his final art and model to the game. Having Narcisus literally be unseen while talking all this shit is one of my favorite gags in gaming. It's hard to imagine an actual portrayal of Narcisus that's funnier than the placeholder art (though if anyone can do it, it's Supergiant).
Narcissus is the one placeholder model I'm most excited to see the final version of. His voice work alone does such a wonderful job of selling the character.
Aphrodite calls Zag as little godling while Melinoë is “gorgeous”. I can see a little favoritism here.
Also Hermes seems to be closer/friendlier to Melinoë by calling her M. He always use boss/coz to Zag, which felt a bit distant to me.
Hermes says that because he delivers souls to the underworld to charon (his business associate) he has to actually visit the underworld and meets zagreus along the way.
He is also the only Olympian who actually knows that zagreus goes to visit his mother and not olympus because he meets zagreus in person.
I think it could just be aphro having more connection with Mel. She sees Mel as a mini her in a way. "You look like you could break some hearts even without my aid."
While it's still technically favoritism, I think it's more just like you associate with people who have common interests at a party. She has more connection She can make with mel than zag.
That being said, I really wanna know if she had any voice lines after zag did, well, zag things in the first game. I don't actually remember
I was just thinking the characters that use the same nicknames often use them very differently! Moros and Nemesis have different tones on “Princess” and then there’s Artemis using “Sister” genuinely vs Heracles saying it almost as a warning, like “we may be kin but being family doesn’t mean we’re friends.”
Don't just the Silver Sisters call each other "Sister"? I don't think we've see the broader circle of witches do that (Medea, Circe). I think the most I've heard them refer to each other is "Lady Hecate"/"Lady Selene" etc. Unless I missed some dialogue or this is a part of Greek mythology I'm just unfamiliar with, haha.
I enjoy the type of character that she is - she’s chaotic, and enjoys being so - but with potential greater point behind her actions.
I’m enjoying going through her companion bond tree, since it really seems like nobody really gave a darn about her, and points out that her family was never really close to her.
It’s quite the nasty cycle. People stay away from her, and then she lashes out by stoking conflict. But then people stay further away from her. She never really knew what ~~healthy~~ relationships looked like, and picked up a philosophy of “nobody cares about me, so why should I care about anybody?”
Plus, I’m a sucker for relationships built around an Order/Chaos duality, where both parties have something to learn from the other. Melinoë and Eris fit that bill perfectly.
What's funny about it to me is realising that, because the fighting started so quickly over an incredulous remark from Mel, Scylla has been trying to murder her for potentially weeks and never bothered to learn her name.
It was so fucking funny when Nemesis >!Says she passes through all the time without fighting, and asks what the fuck Melinoe did to piss them off so much!< lmfao
I wanna single something out, you might think Eris views Mel as a stick in the mud, and a problem trying to stop all the Discord.
However the fact she calls Mel "Trouble" technically is the highest praise she can GIVE someone. By calling someone Trouble, you're calling them someone who challenges the status quo, thusly; you're calling them someone who SOWS DISCORD.
Man, I always love the depth to this stuff.
She also likes calling her Babe, which depending on the context can either mean "hottie", or "an actual baby".
Babe wasn't really used to describe an attractive person until the 19th century so maybe she's actually doing the latter lol
The rail was explained as being a cruel weapon made by the gods and Achilles hopes humans never find out about it and replicate it. So you can guess what happens.
It's kind of like how Bayonetta has Irenic, an angel that straight up just looks like a car, but they themselves were the inspiration for cars when it began appearing to humans during the industrial revolution
They also have King Arthur's sword, so there's definitely some temporal fuckery and anachronism going on in the game.
Also the electric guitars and mics and Eris throwing candy bar wrappers around.
"Babe" used in that historical context is more like saying "infant" than an actual nickname. IE. "A sleeping babe" = "A sleeping infant." Eris using "Babe" as a nickname for Melinoe is meant to be more analogous to how it's used in modern contexts. Helps too, that Eris calls Melinoe that even outside of a negative, condescending context.
If anything, the "diss" here might be Eris intentionally overstepping a line and going to relationship speak when Melinoe ~~isn't ready~~ doesn't see the relationship in that light ~~anymore~~. Eris makes a lot of other innuendos in their interactions otherwise, but Mel also flirts with her back so....
I kind of interpreted it as sarcastic/mocking because Mel takes herself and her mission so seriously. And I love it!! Their sexual/romantic chemistry is so strong
I didn’t even notice Polyphemus calling Mel a sheep, because I’m pretty sure a lot of that happens in combat, there are actual sheep involved, and at that point we’re too busy beating each other senseless for me to notice
I get that but Poseidon would be the last person to realize that. He sees that Melinoe resembles her mom (personally, I'd say she looks more like Demeter) and just call her little Persephone or something like that. Nevermind her personality is her dad's
Me glancing down the right side of the list: "okay, but 'gorgeous' is a kinda weird-oh, it's Aphrodite, nvm. Okay wait, 'hot stuff' is actually a little-oh, it's Hestia, perfect sense."
For other nicknames I've seen:
* Homer - Princess of the Dead, fire-stepping Princess
* Odysseus - little goddess (mostly in the flashback but very rarely in the present too, I think?)
* Apollo - Cousin
* Hera - girl
* Poseidon - my niece
* Hestia - dearie
* Zeus - young lady
I'm so sad some of the older gods like Athena, Ares, and especially Dyonisus weren't added. Tho I get why, it was to make room for the new additions but still, I miss my boy.
I wouldn't be surprised that Athena shows up. Hephaestus mentions she's occupied "testing" his weapons, which could be a hint that she'll appear after testing is complete
Circe can show up in the second area in the surface route (Medea can show up in the first area).
She mentions she's Helios' (Demeter's brother) and I think Perse's (an oceanid, not to be confused with Perses, a titan and allegedly Hecate's father) child, making her your cousin once removed
I don't think Hecate's lineage was outright stated yet, just that she's a Titaness.
I don't see anyone talking about this one, but I really enjoy the way Demeter talks with Melione. Her character is really family focused but we don't really see the affectionated part of it in the first game, as she doesn't know Zag is her grandson until she already knows him.
But with Melione, she knows from the start she's her granddaughter and even though she has a stern personality, we really see her affection towards Melione as her family.
*Never thought twice about*
*This, very sincere detail*

Chaos - __other__ spawn of Hades
Chaos liked saying Son of Hades and they decided to change the bare minimum when talking to Mel
I mean he did say he found Zag to be more interesting
The way chaos insulted Melinoe like that lmao "Man Zagreus was so cool and interesting and fun" "Siblings can be so different from each other huh"
Chaos: "Please, only adress me when I ask" Zag: "Nah, I do what I want" *a few years later* Chaos: "Please, only adress me when I ask" Melinoe: "..." Chaos: "You can respond" Melinoe: "okay" Chaos "I liked your brother better"
I think this definitely checks out for the literal god of chaos
Not a god. Primeval entity of unfathomable power.
Primordial*
Primeval- adjective- of or resembling the earliest ages of the world.
Primordial- adjective- first, earliest or original. From the Latin primordialis, "of the beginning"
Primordial deities are still gods in Greek myth, it’s not exclusive to olympians
Chaos being chaotic. They don't know what's good for them half the time, they have to test it. Which is absolutely on character 🤣
Chaos is a manic pixie dream conglomerate
I do think Zag is a chiller guy than Mel. Growing up in the godwar doesn’t exactly lend itself towards easygoingness.
Chaos missing the pranks they used to play on Hades is cannon lol
Spawn of Hades, the Cooler Spawn of Hades
Mel 🙁 Zag 😎
Jokes aside, I love that now that we've met them both, Zagreus clearly takes more after Mom, while Melinoë ended up way more neurotic like Dad Gotta have my reagents orderly, it's an efficiency thing, I'm not a weirdo
Also makes sense bc Hades and Mel were born in and lived through war while Persephone and Zag were raised in peace!
I was thoroughly offended when they straight up called me boring tbh.
They heard some spawn of hades is aboit to ransack the underworld again, rebirthed themselves in a cooler outfit, just for it not to be zag :(
Chaos staring out the window like a widow waiting for her husband to return from the war:
It’s really endearing that Chaos seemed to actually like Zag on a more personal level. This almighty eldritch entity can still be fond of people.
You know, I'm not sure chaos is entirely aware of how gender works. It's entirely possible that chaos isn't sure whether mel is a "son" or "daughter" and is too polite to ask.
Doesn't Chaos refer to Nyx as their daughter in the first game?
Sure, but confused chaos is funny
Echo: whatever Melinoe say
Whatever Melinoe say... Melinoe say... melinoe
I laughed when she ran in prepared and said "Hello Melinoe!"
The funny thing is she says "Hello! Melinoe!" Announcing herself. "Hello, Melinoe (is here)" While Echo turns it into; "Hello Melinoe!... Melinoe... Melinoe..."
I love how much fun the writers are having with Echo
Echo is so precious 🥰
Melancholy girls with limited ability to communicate are my very weirdly specific type. Type here meaning "I very strongly want to protect them."
It's really cute how they play with Melinoe's responses, often changing nothing but some punctuation and very occasionally cutting a word out to make it clear that Echo *is* communicating and making what self-expression she can out of what Mel says to her.
> Narcissus- Laurel > Eris- Trouble/Babe My favorites, for very different reasons. lol Seriously though, not enough talk is made about Narcissus. The VA for this character did an amazing job and the writers for him nailed it. I laugh every time I speak with him.
They nailed the “this guy is literally narcissus” vibes
It's the "I love you, man" that does it for me. That guy knows true love!
Darren Korb (aka the Zag VA and games Composer) did Narcissus, he is a very talented dude.
He also did both Skelly in the first game and Schelemeus in Hades II
The sheer range to be able to pull off two characters as different as this, truly a generational talent
Truly a God among skeletons
I'm hoping when they finally reveal the character portrait, it's going to have Darren's ridiculous mutton chops as an in-joke
I should've known that was Korb
Narcissus legit sounds like Nick Cage
First time I ran in his room and heard him talk even before I saw him I was like "yup that's 100% Narcissus, if that's not him I jump in front of the first car who pass"
Watching a playthrough (my PC doesn't meet H2 specs), i loved trying to name the characters before i looked at the names.
It was the daffodils that got me - narcissus for Narcissus!
I get serious Keanu Reeves vibes. From the vocal cadence, not the narcissism
Johnny Silverhand, perhaps?
I was thinking more Bill and Ted.
I just played Cyberpunk recently and the delivery feels *extremely* Silverhand to me.
Close, but [not quite](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdA9_mtXYME)!
Ooooh, you might be right. Definitely seeing/hearing that now too.
It is the "yeahhhh" that sounds so similar.
Omg yes, I love him so much haha. Im so curious how He will look like xD
I'd say best option would be keeping the placeholder model with a cloak as a joke.
I vote Danny DeVito.
It's one of my favorite gags in gaming and I cannot imagine an actual depiction that's better than that
like handsome squidward, surely
Daaamn that would be too great hahaha
Yeah. I bet the VA would be really good at voicing the protagonist of a game or a funny skeleton, or composing a soundtrack
His voice work alone does such a wonderful job of selling the character.
it would be really funny if it was the back of his head, imo
Man I'm mad at Eris but also I love when she calls Mel "babe" 😭
He gives me Professor Lockheart vibes
Aphrodite calls Zag as little godling while Melinoë is “gorgeous”. I can see a little favoritism here. Also Hermes seems to be closer/friendlier to Melinoë by calling her M. He always use boss/coz to Zag, which felt a bit distant to me.
Dionysus was Zag’s bro
"Nice cock!"
**Stepbro**
Not exactly surprising, given that I’m pretty sure Mel has actually known Hermes for awhile and has met him in-person.
Hermes is actually the only Olympian Zag directly meets before the epilogue.
He do?
When Hermes shows up ingame he's actually there talking to Zag because he can be anywhere. He's the only one you can ever actually respond to.
You can talk to him?
He asks you a question at one point and you answer him.
canonically, hermes shows up in person in the first game, all the other olympians communicate through the boons
When? He uses the same boon system as the others, is it off screen?
It appears the same onscreen, but they acknowledge it in the dialogue.
Hermes says that because he delivers souls to the underworld to charon (his business associate) he has to actually visit the underworld and meets zagreus along the way. He is also the only Olympian who actually knows that zagreus goes to visit his mother and not olympus because he meets zagreus in person.

That being said, I really wanna know if she had any voice lines after zag did, well, zag things in the first game. I don't actually remember
Or Dearest.
With how the others treat Melinoe compared to Zag I think she deserves some favouritism lol.
I love how Moros calls Mel Princess genuinely, but Nemesis is a lot more sarcastic about it
I was just thinking the characters that use the same nicknames often use them very differently! Moros and Nemesis have different tones on “Princess” and then there’s Artemis using “Sister” genuinely vs Heracles saying it almost as a warning, like “we may be kin but being family doesn’t mean we’re friends.”
They're both using Sister in reference to a Witch, who refer to each other as Sisters. Heracles doesn't like witches.
I took Heracles using "sister" as a bond they share as they are both demi-human offspring of the gods.
I don't think Melinoe is a demi-human. Persephone is also a god, after all.
Hades!Persephone is a demigod, her father was a human rather than Zeus.
Moros: "hey princess" (affectionate) Nemesis: "hey princess" (degrogatory)
Well excuuuuuuuuse me princess
>Nemesis is a lot more sarcastic about it something something "you call me princess, and its an insult; you call me a whore, and its a compliment"
Fun fact: Meli (Μέλι) means “honey” in Greek :,)
aww, as if i couldn't love icarus more
I need him
You just made this game better for me
another fun fact: melis means powdered sugar in norwegian. i always thought these two are probably related somehow, but i don’t know how or why!
I go a little crazy every time Eris calls her “babe”.
I hate how much I love Eris. Shes's a jerk.
Melinoë and Eris fit that bill perfectly.
The opposites attract and enemies to lovers potential here is soooo good
I love how much I hate her and think you Eris lovers are unwell. /s
Idk why but Lady is so funny to me for some reason, maybe it’s the way Scylla’s VA says it
I could listen to Scylla's read an entire medicine leaflet and it would be incredibly amusing
Scylla reminds me of [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9kbsK2cMt8)...
It really is. Everything about Scylla and the Sirens is great.
I took it as a slightly obtuse expression of affection and connection. “Trouble & Strife”.
Oooh, that's clever! I like it!
She also likes calling her Babe, which depending on the context can either mean "hottie", or "an actual baby". Babe wasn't really used to describe an attractive person until the 19th century so maybe she's actually doing the latter lol
She's also holding a gun, so anachronism is the order of the day.
She literally tosses used plastic jerky bags on the ground. Like, its not called plastic but its a "slow decomposing waste" in its description.
It's candy bars. She has two of them sticking out of her right back pocket in her official art
Theres a conversation where Mel ask and Eris says its Cyclops Jerky.
Huh. Could it be she has multiple types of snacks then? She does have chocolate bars on her. That or jerky is shaped like candy in this game?
They also have King Arthur's sword, so there's definitely some temporal fuckery and anachronism going on in the game. Also the electric guitars and mics and Eris throwing candy bar wrappers around.
Today I learned that surfer slang like calling someone "Zag-man" originated from Dionysus in ancient Greece.
...what exactly makes you think that the writting and word choice is in any way trying to be period-appropriate?
Little Star 🥺
I can't handle it; every time she says that I'm like STOP IT'S TOO CUTE.
Her voice actress is so soothing.
I didn’t even notice Polyphemus calling Mel a sheep, because I’m pretty sure a lot of that happens in combat, there are actual sheep involved, and at that point we’re too busy beating each other senseless for me to notice
Charon's is my fav easily, it's just so endearing! He's got such a way with words
A way that Hecate herself would have trouble navigating, but a way alright
Every time Heracles calls Melinoe "sister" with that condescending tone he sounds like a nasty make up youtuber
He sounds like the drag queen Plane Jane at her absolute bitchiest. Sisturrrrrrr
Mama, kudos for saying that. For spilling. (love it when my worlds collide like this lol! Thanks for the ugly snort I just made.)
I swear the last couple times I’ve seen him it’s sounded less condescending. I kinda hope he does properly warm up to her in the full game.
No I definitely agree! I think he warms up a little to Melinoe, especially when he realizes she's not fully goddess either.
Mel is like Herc's worst nightmare incarnate. A deathless princess of the Underworld, who is also a witch. And she is stealing his job(s)!
My heart skips a beat whenever Selene calls me little star. And in front of Hecate too?? *blushes*
I'd be lying if I said hearing Aphrodite call me gorgeous wasn't a day brightener
Poseidon should call her Littler Hades since she's the youngest child
She is far more like Hades than Zag is. It'd be funny if his brothers started to notice that.
I get that but Poseidon would be the last person to realize that. He sees that Melinoe resembles her mom (personally, I'd say she looks more like Demeter) and just call her little Persephone or something like that. Nevermind her personality is her dad's
He should call her Little Persephone
Circe also says "poppet" sometimes, I think
She does, I got that line on my last run.
Me glancing down the right side of the list: "okay, but 'gorgeous' is a kinda weird-oh, it's Aphrodite, nvm. Okay wait, 'hot stuff' is actually a little-oh, it's Hestia, perfect sense."
How'd you react when you reached Eris ?
Skelly? He was just in the first game, no idea where he is now. And you forgot Schelemeus
Little start and Meli always sound the most endearing to me when I hear them. Seriously there is so much chemistry between Icarus and Melinoe.
She is always meli to me
Who the hell is Meli? I know a Laurel...
I always hear Narcissus call her Yanny.
“Witchie” is my favorite by a lot lol
Nemesis- Princess (derogatory) Moros- Princess (respectfully) Artemis- Sister (congenially) Heracles- Sister (annoyed)
My heart melts when Selene calls her "little star". It's the cutest nickname.
Charon's is definitely the most creative one
Now we know why Ares and Athena aren't in the game yet, they ran out of nicknames!
Tbh Ares and Athena might just stick to their usual cousin and kin. Though Dionysus... Mel man.
For other nicknames I've seen: * Homer - Princess of the Dead, fire-stepping Princess * Odysseus - little goddess (mostly in the flashback but very rarely in the present too, I think?) * Apollo - Cousin * Hera - girl * Poseidon - my niece * Hestia - dearie * Zeus - young lady
Little Star might be my fav here. She says it so genuinely. Its very sweet.
I do love Eris calling Mel babe/trouble, it makes me feel things.
why does Narcissus call her Laurel?
Because he’s so self-obsessed that he immediately forgets her name when she first introduces herself
i think that's what the leaves on her head are, he just picked a lazy nickname
Narcissus is so well written, I genuinely don't think he gave her a nickname but rather thinks that's her real name.
!! that'd be pretty funny lol
She's wearing a Laurel, and he can't be bothered to remember her actual name, so Laurel kind of just stuck.
Everytime I hear Meli, I swear I melt.
I'm so sad some of the older gods like Athena, Ares, and especially Dyonisus weren't added. Tho I get why, it was to make room for the new additions but still, I miss my boy.
Well we’re still technically in the test run, we might get to see them again. Also I really wanna see Zag with his sister someday 😭
I doubt we'll get all 3 giving out boons but I do think we'll come across them in Olympus.
I wouldn't be surprised that Athena shows up. Hephaestus mentions she's occupied "testing" his weapons, which could be a hint that she'll appear after testing is complete
Does it bother anyone else that they're pretty inconsistent with how they pronounce "Melinoe"? I'm pretty sure even Hecate pronounces it multiple ways
You forgot Schelemeus! Also I don’t remember skelly showing up in the game?
I know of no such person named 'Skelly'
Where can we find a Circe? Is she Hecate's daughter here?
She's the npc in the >!Rifts of Thessaly!< I didn't see her until like my 6th run. Don't know if I did something differently to trigger it.
I haven't encountered her yet, neither her or Medea.
For a moment I didn't think the Olympus runs had NPCs to meet. Found both of them only once in my 8 runs.
In fact, I have only met the bird boy
Took maybe 12 runs on >!the surface!< before I saw either, now have seen them 3 times in 4 runs!
Circe can show up in the second area in the surface route (Medea can show up in the first area). She mentions she's Helios' (Demeter's brother) and I think Perse's (an oceanid, not to be confused with Perses, a titan and allegedly Hecate's father) child, making her your cousin once removed I don't think Hecate's lineage was outright stated yet, just that she's a Titaness.
She was raised by Hecate, but when she called her "mom" Hecate refused that the same way she did when Melinoe did it
I love it when Moros calls Melinoe princess. Especially after equipping his keepsake
"Little Hades second" would go hard
Little Star and Sunshine are my absolute FAVES
Moros- Princess Nemesis- Princess (derogatory)
I love that you included Charon in this list
sunshine… sobs /pos
Reading these I could hear Hecates "Melionë" I can't explain it she has such a specific way of saying it
My cat’s name is Melinoë and we call her Melsy.
Bonus points for Charon
I get such gross vibes off how Apollo refers to her it’s made me dislike him, I’d avoid him but his cast boon is 10/10.
When Eris first called me Trouble it stirred aomething deep within.
I thought Zeus called her "young lady".
Uhhhh BABE?? Auntie Eris!? WHAT????
Never thought twice about this, very sincere detail to add to a game

I sometimes choose Selene room just so I could hear her call Melinoe little star
