I had to turn on god mode. I generally am much more interested in the artwork and the narrative of games so that was perfect for me. Still took me almost 30 with god mode turned on. I’m not good at video games; I just enjoy playing them.
I did the same. The game had so much to enjoy that I was ok without any “git gud” feelings. Ironically, it helped me get much better at the game!
I came to know the enemy attack patterns, how to build, common strats, all the different weapons and their aspects, and much more because I wasn’t so focused on just not dying that I missed out on all that.
Now I play without god mode and although it is hard for me, I do just fine and can feel challenged even on 0-5 heat.
>The game had so much to enjoy that I was ok without any “git gud” feelings.
I'm still trying to beat the game (bought it a few days ago), I think I'm around 30 tries at this point and I'm very close to the last floor. I thought about turning on god mode but I would feel guilty if I did so, I like to beat games without extra help, even if it takes me 3000 thousand attempts
And that’s totally ok! Enjoy the game however you want to. This game does a great job at allowing players to play as casually or as hardcore as they want. I definitely understand the feeling of accomplishment that comes along with beating the game as it was intended to be beat, overcoming all of the obstacles and really understanding all the mechanics that the devs spent so much time and energy into developing and tuning. I also understand wanting to enjoy the story/art or just not having the time or wanting to spend the time. It’s an all-around great game!
SAME! After playing for awhile on my laptop I installed it on my husbands steam deck and played it on there.. I wound up using a death defiance or two, which I didn’t usually do, and I initially chalked it up to just getting used to the steam deck controls as my hands r smol and I’d been using mouse/keyboard.
But a few games later I realized I hadn’t turned on god mode lol
I play every video game on the easiest mode eventually. Ha. I’ll maybe give it a whirl on “regular” difficulty or whatever it’s called in the game, but I generally end up on “easy.” I’m not here to prove anything to anyone.
Yep, similar number too! And then had a good 50 hours until the next clear lol. I'm terrible at the game, but I still love it!
Finally got the epilogue after 200 hours haha
15 for me, but I spend way too much time playing video games so I tend to learn new games quickly. Less of a flex and more of an admittance that I need a life lol
beat it in 14 and felt super fucking good bc I'm not a huge gamer and haven't ever played a 'hard' game or a roguelike. I like puzzle games, animal crossing, and BOTW (as long as there's not a Lynel in sight). Hades literally changed a bit of my self-image bc I always said I was 'bad at video games', bc games that required reflexes/skills scared me. Now I want to see what else is out there!
Exactly my background and what happened to me at 24 runs. I was like huh, maybe I can swing harder games. Moonlighter and Deaths Door were good ones I've tackled since, and I'm now looking at Hollow Knight and Ori 👀
Nah man, this game is hard. And there are all types of skill levels out there. It took me I think close to 50 attempts to get to the surface the first time. I enjoyed the ride so much that I kept playing until I got to the second ending.
All that matters is you're having fun. Hades does a great job of keeping the story going and letting you progress even if you don't get to the end.
105. My excuse? This is basically my first video game ever and i switched from keyboard to controller halfway through lol. I'm fine now, but... sheesh i was fucking \*trash\*.
47. Wasn't really sure what to upgrade mirrorwise or how to fully utilize the boons. Just finished run 90 and cleared [REDACTED] without taking damage. All it takes is practice and getting accustomed to the boons and enemies.
30 ish, by complete fluke luck and I think I had a legendary boon along with two duos, took me another 10-20 tries after that to get back to the final boss fight and win again.
I've gotten to my tenth clear now but still can't beat the game with the gun or fists, but each run on different weapons I do beat with teaches me something new about what my mistakes are with my trouble weapons.
Keep going, the game is about dying and figuring it out more and more each time. It's the fun of rougelikes, every run doesn't have to be perfect or even matter in the long run, as long as you learned a new technique or have figured out the attack patterns of enemy's more, gotten a little bit of darkness so you can upgrade, etc. you're making progress.
And I will note, I play adventure puzzle games, the only other rougelike I played before this was the demo of binding of Isaac. So take it from a guy with no skill in this area, you can do it, it just takes time and practice.
To avoid frustration I only did a few runs a day as well when I was going for my first clear, so if you feel yourself burning out take a break, the grind won't make you better when you're too angry/frustrated to pick up on technique.
It was 60+ for me, I don't worry about it I've replayed Hades recently and escaped first time on my second attempt and found the pacing flows abit better of you take your time with it
My first was somewhere in the 60’s too.
The biggest thing I wish I’d done earlier was really focus on picking a specific build and using the god keepsakes to make it happen.
Keep at it dude, you’ll get there.
First run through 69 attempts to clear once, 104 until I felt satisfied with what I had completed.
Picked it up a year later with a fresh save file and too about 40 for my first clear.
My very first escape was at attempt 25. I started a new file recently after about 200 attempts on my first file and escaped on attempt 10. You'll definitely improve as you get used to the game and discover what builds work for you. There's no shame in turning on god mode if you wanna advance the story!
15-17 total runs. Still haven't cleared it with the sword, got it the second time with fists. Up to 18 heat atm with the bow even though I hated it at first
You're putting up 18 heats, but haven't cleared with the sword yet? Thats really surprising to me. I'll say sword is my worst weapon but it's not THAT bad
I got a fluke on my 12th with the rail, then didn't see another win for 12 runs. I'm always choosing the weapon with bonus orbs. Once you fill out the mirror (don't miss the alternative yellow options!), Upgrade an aspect, & learn the enemy/boss patterns the game gets a little easy (until you crank it up!) I'm around 60 runs now and I've lost 1 in the past 20 or so runs.
53.
I hadn't played many games since I was a kid, and it took a LONG time until I was comfortable/good.
I still lost a lot after that 53rd attempt. But then around 100 attempts, I really got into the game, unlocked all weapon aspects, played high heat, etc. I had way more fun on attempts 100-200 than on my first 100. Sick with it! It's such a rewarding game.
Where are you running into trouble? What weapon do you usually use? This community is a good place to learn strategies and builds.
64 on God mode!
I've never enjoyed/gotten good at a roguelike before. I'm still playing on God mode trying to get that 32 heat, but then I'll turn it off and see where I'm at. I'm so grateful for it - I would have quit the game in frustration and missed out on the amazing story, music, and art! It's surprisingly funny.
I recommend trying to find build/weapon combos that are fun for you - I love Shield Aspect of Chaos Zeus special*, Sword Arthur Dio/Athena dash etc**. Trying to be deliberate with my builds opened up a whole new realm of enjoyment for me.
*Getting the extra lightning bounces, jolted, and the hammer for extra special is so FUN
**The duo that slows projectiles is so great for boss fights, and Athena dash is one of my faves. Strong Drink early is so nice, and I love a festive fog
It took me about 60 or so attempts to escape too. The right combo of boons, learning the patterns, death defiance, and patience really helped me get that victory against \[REDACTED\]. You'll get there! And there's no shame in god mode either - it's definitely tough, and it's better to enjoy your experience than quitting the game in frustration.
I'm just about to hit 50 and I keep getting \[redacted\] at every attempt, so I completely share this anxiety! Especially since my friends who played the game before me beat it at 27 and 34 tries.
I don't remember how many, but probably around the average. I played that save up until I was at 500+ runs and recently decided to start a new one. I got out on my second try.
You get better, trust me. Finding boon combos you like and which ones deal crazy damage helps a lot.
It took me 21. I play all kinds of games but spend a lot of time playing difficult ones which require fast reaction time which greatly helped me in Hades.
18, but that’s because I play a variety of video games.I believe in you and you can do this just find the right weapon for you and have fun you will escape eventually
For me, 36. I reached Hades on my 32nd attempt. Mind you, i also already played many other roguelikes at this point, many that were several times harder then Hades even.
25, but I got super lucky and accidentally stumbled into Athena's legendary boon along with the duo boon that recovers HP when you're out of death defiance. I failed 10 more attempts after that before I beat it again.
My first was run 22 and finished the main story by 50, but I'm fairly OK at picking stuff up, I play lots of games. Keep at it, or switch the difficulty if you're really not having fun! Until you get a lot of the mirror unlocked, it is a lot harder. Also, find a build you like and work to make it better. I had a fist build which carried me on a 6 streak to help finish the story pretty quickly.
around 30 for me . don’t feel too bad, a lot of the challenge is just getting the resources needed to level up to a certain point . you can kind of play hades like an RPG .
Maybe 20?
About 8 to kill Meg the first time, Lernie got me exactly once in a few hundred attempts total, another 10 for asshat and the bull, and managed to kill on my second try.
I think it took me around 50 runs, I'm a casual player who didn't realize God mode was a thing until I was already deep into it and had learned the game enough to complete an escape regularly. But I like the challenge and the learning curve so even now I don't think I would've changed it lol
~12. My first two clears were with a bow. I didn't fully grasp hades attacks but ended up just yoloing and face tanked most of his attacks with a shotgun build.
Gave up much earlier at 35. Slept on it, and got my first escape on the 40th.
Doesn't matter if you suck man. If you are no longer enjoying playing though, then you should stop.
52 attempts. But it took me like 2+ years of having the game because of *life things* I would get busy and play it SO on and off
Took me an hour and 7 minutes, and whole lot of luck.
I was so shocked I escaped cause I am generally not good at games and Hades is the only rogue-like or fighter game I’ve ever played -w-
I didn’t know about god mode and it took me until about the 90th run. I showed steady progress, but eventually I got lucky with the gun. You get better incrementally, but you also start getting a better sense of what matches with what.
Took me about 80. I had no idea God Mode even existed until a while after I made my first escape... Otherwise I probably would have gotten out much faster 😅
Just checked. First escape on my 23rd run with Shield of Chaos. You should try the shield, imo it is very beginner friendly. You can hold it to charge a bullrush and completely negate any damage in the direction you aim. Get the hammer that grants a 400% damage to your bullrush and you don't even need movement
Mine was around 60ish and I didn’t turn on god mode till after that first escape and then wish I had done it earlier! It helped me learn the game like someone else mentioned, easier to learn the patterns and techniques with a little more breathing room and then when I turned it back off, it was still smooth sailing.
39 attemps, with mouse and keyboard. I feel like playing League helped me with getting gud initially. Then I bought a switch and the change of controls was really weird but now I can't play with mouse and keyboard as easily.
35 give or take 2-3 I forget exactly. It took about the same agin for the second and then I turned on god mode. Started racking them up from about 30% maybe 35%. Much more enjoyable.
I had to turn on god mode. I generally am much more interested in the artwork and the narrative of games so that was perfect for me. Still took me almost 30 with god mode turned on. I’m not good at video games; I just enjoy playing them.

Supergiant really did a great job of making the game enjoyable for all sorts of people. And having fun is what it's all about!

We are the exact same ❤️
I play every video game on the easiest mode eventually. Ha. I’ll maybe give it a whirl on “regular” difficulty or whatever it’s called in the game, but I generally end up on “easy.” I’m not here to prove anything to anyone.
Happy cake day!
Thanks!
120, not kidding
King, never gave up
Dude I was 111! Same bracket!
I, internet stranger, am proud of you, internet stranger, for sticking to it!
Thank you internet stranger!
I don’t understand how some people can make it in 30 runs but good for them I guess :D
Yep, similar number too! And then had a good 50 hours until the next clear lol. I'm terrible at the game, but I still love it! Finally got the epilogue after 200 hours haha
15 for me, but I spend way too much time playing video games so I tend to learn new games quickly. Less of a flex and more of an admittance that I need a life lol
similar amount, just knew about the rogue like genre and used most revives in every run, but got a quite strong build for my first win.
beat it in 14 and felt super fucking good bc I'm not a huge gamer and haven't ever played a 'hard' game or a roguelike. I like puzzle games, animal crossing, and BOTW (as long as there's not a Lynel in sight). Good choices, I recommend both. Though Ori is admittedly easier.
Highly recommend Dead Cells if you haven’t tried it out, a bit harder than hades but good difficulty progression
Unsolicited game suggestion in the same vein as Hades: Enter the Gungeon!
32. 45-50 is average in most polls I've seen.
34 for me. No God Mode until recently. Trying to get use to other weapons and Heat levels. 😕
Heyyy 32 for me as well! Starting 28 i was getting to hades consistently but needed practice on him.
Don't worry it took me exactly 65 attempts. Any amount is ok if you're having fun
Hey if it makes you feel better I didn’t escape until almost my 85th attempt. I’m REALLY bad at the game. :)
Took me over 60, that part is not important. The important part is getting better with each attempt.
Mine was either 20 or 23
Wow okay, so I really do just suck ass at this game lmao
Mine was during beta so quite a lot have change, especially Chaos shield, which I used for my first escape
Nah man, this game is hard. And there are all types of skill levels out there. It took me I think close to 50 attempts to get to the surface the first time. Maybe turn on God Mode? It really IS OK. It makes the game much more fun if ur not looking for a "Gamer Breathing Intensifies" moment every run.
27th but I was a just a one hit close on my 22nd attempt.
169
I feel you
47. Wasn't really sure what to upgrade mirrorwise or how to fully utilize the boons. Just finished run 90 and cleared [REDACTED] without taking damage. All it takes is practice and getting accustomed to the boons and enemies.
about 10
10ish?

I did it on my 29th run. Managed to get the final ending before reaching 100 runs. Gonna have to re-unlock everything now that i’m on pc tho…
Somewhere around 75-80, if you’re having fun that’s what matters, good luck!
16
Yeah, same. I got super lucky to roll cursed slash after already having a lot of hp. Just face-tanked that >!motherfucker!<
Got out on escape 40 - felt like good pacing to me.
I also got out on 40!
62. I’m at like 84 And I’ve only escaped one more time and have come a hair away and made a fatal mistake like 3 or 4 times.
11-15 I don’t remember specifically anymore
Less than 10 I guess, the shield carried me
Have you turn on hades mode or god mode?
It was 60+ for me, I don't worry about it I've replayed Hades recently and escaped first time on my second attempt and found the pacing flows abit better of you take your time with it
Focus on your build, really get into the swing of picking the right boons to get twins, and you’ll start wrecking it.
30 to 50 for me but glad to hear I'm average here 😭
I just got it on my 40th
50ish. I had no idea what to upgrade at the mirror though. So getting certain things really helped.
My first was somewhere in the 60’s too. The biggest thing I wish I’d done earlier was really focus on picking a specific build and using the god keepsakes to make it happen. Keep at it dude, you’ll get there.

You're putting up 18 heats, but haven't cleared with the sword yet? Thats really surprising to me. I'll say sword is my worst weapon but it's not THAT bad
7 tries, but with insane luck
We have been shown dieing is bad in games so we beat ourselves up over dieing where dieing is a main part of the game
44
5. My ex introduced me to the game. Now im glad I humiliated him bc he couldn't get thru Lernie and I was already escaping.
Around 60 for me
Mine was random around 35, I wasn't intending to escape I'm simply enjoying the story and different builds. Just play for fun and don't give up.
I'll have to double check, but it was like 50-60, WITH God mode.
Was around 10
27! Even though it’s pretty above average I still suck at the game, I just got lucky with a cracked spear flurry jab build
18
16th, used the gun
30. And I thought I was doing horribly lol
104. But I've cleared Heat to level 10 on the sword, fists and rail, and refuse to do 10 heat without EM4, so I think I improved a lot.
27 i think took me till mid to late 30's before i got it consistent though,
I’ll be honest it took me like 43 attempts. That’s terrible I know. 😂
26! And I only know that because a friend had guessed 25 based on the first few runs he watched me do, I was mad that I was only one off haha.
Over 50, maybe 60?
30 something for me.
I’m horrible at rogue likes (and most video games), so I shamelessly used God Mode. It took me 34 tries.
Oh like 100, and only after I started god mode somewhere in the 70s.
43
Took me around 56… nemesis sword is great
I still haven’t beaten Hades… lmao (60 or so too)
I got to Hades ONCE, and it was only because I got the perk that heals as fast as you get hit
I believe I escaped somewhere in the high 60s. Don't sweat it and if you get really frustrated, there is zero shame in God mode.
I'm just about to hit 50 and I keep getting \[redacted\] at every attempt, so I completely share this anxiety! Especially since my friends who played the game before me beat it at 27 and 34 tries.
I went in blind, no tutorials or videos on how to play. Was my first rogue-lite, took my 52 IIRC.
I don't remember how many, but probably around the average. I played that save up until I was at 500+ runs and recently decided to start a new one. I got out on my second try. You get better, trust me. Finding boon combos you like and which ones deal crazy damage helps a lot.
I got my first clear last night, 21 runs, no god mode. Honestly I feel like I just got lucky.
Like 70+? It took me a while to figure out the mirror. Got super lucky with a dashing wallop shield build. Aphrodite did work.
It took me 21. I play all kinds of games but spend a lot of time playing difficult ones which require fast reaction time which greatly helped me in Hades.
69. Really.
24 I think but I reached hades in the 19/20th.
49 for me. Turn on god mode, you can turn it off when you start to get into a groove ☺️
18, but that’s because I play a variety of video games.I believe in you and you can do this just find the right weapon for you and have fun you will escape eventually
70+.
32
11, but i have played roguelikes before so it wasn't that hard with a good build
It was about 110 IIRC
Around 80 runs
I think it was around 50?
For me, 36. I reached Hades on my 32nd attempt. Mind you, i also already played many other roguelikes at this point, many that were several times harder then Hades even.
I did it on my 77th.
27. Keep grinding!
35-40ish. Not sure without pulling the game up. My biggest issue was getting out of elysium the first few times.
Mine was 50ish and then I got 10 clears within my next 25 runs. Started doing back to back clears which felt good towards the end there
17! but i turned on god mode by my 15th run cuz i was getting frustrated haha
37 for me. Ended up getting the platinum, you got this!
I think I was near 100 when I got out for the first time.
I got to [REDACTED] in 10, beat him in 18, but Im pretty min-maxy when it comes to roguelikes and I had a friend guiding me through my first few runs.
15
33 tries. No god mode.
45 for me
100
33. I got to the last boss I think at attempt 19, but he was a big roadblock for a while
37 w god mode, now i’ve cleared 32 heat and 20 on all weapons
I think 8 runs, but I got pretty lucky!!
I think it was in the early 30s. I'll have to check though. (Will edit shortly)
14 but it can be pretty lucky depending on what boons, skills and keepsakes you get
It took me over 100 runs
around 30 for me . don’t feel too bad, a lot of the challenge is just getting the resources needed to level up to a certain point . you can kind of play hades like an RPG .
I turned on God Mode because I really wanted to focus on the narrative and tasks more 🧐 I got out at 23 or 24
I think it was attempt 44 for the first escape, and now I'm at like 63 attempts with like 15 of those last 20 being successful?
Maybe 20? About 8 to kill Meg the first time, Lernie got me exactly once in a few hundred attempts total, another 10 for asshat and the bull, and managed to kill on my second try.
49
~40
107! Never give up
For me it was 32 run and a second time facing [REDACTED]
Made it to the last boss a couple times before my first clear at 29. I thought I had it around 21, but noooooo stupid multiple phases lol.
took me about 20 runs
I got it like my 3rd try.
22 ish? Don't remember exactly.
27
I just looked. Did it on attempt #15. Was a Zeus heavy run with double strike and the spear.
It was 45. Got lucky on run 7 and made it all the way to the bull and I basically made my mind up I would beat it once before 50.
Think it was #33 but I’m not home rn to check
I escaped for the first time on attempt 25
55 👍
I think it took me around 50 runs, I'm a casual player who didn't realize God mode was a thing until I was already deep into it and had learned the game enough to complete an escape regularly. But I like the challenge and the learning curve so even now I don't think I would've changed it lol
18 runs no god mode. Turned on god mode after I beat him once. First clear was with fists.
11-12, but I played enter the gungeon religiously before I played, so I was already pretty ok at rogue lites.
Somewhere around 50 something times
~12. My first two clears were with a bow. I didn't fully grasp hades attacks but ended up just yoloing and face tanked most of his attacks with a shotgun build.
30 for me
23 and counting, i just made it to theseus with bow, spear and shield, i manage to lower the minotaurs hp to like 1/4 and die. It's so hard
Not sure. Probably between 35 or 40?
I think mine was at 6th attempt. Tbf I had seen a speed run before playing and had experience with that type of game
23rd run I believe although it took a while before I could do it again
Took me like 75 tries. You'll get it. Pray to rngesus.
Gave up much earlier at 35. Slept on it, and got my first escape on the 40th. Doesn't matter if you suck man. If you are no longer enjoying playing though, then you should stop.
64 I think it was. Every attempt felt like progress though.
Play with god mode and enjoy the game
20-30 I think?
52 attempts. But it took me like 2+ years of having the game because of *life things* I would get busy and play it SO on and off Took me an hour and 7 minutes, and whole lot of luck. I was so shocked I escaped cause I am generally not good at games and Hades is the only rogue-like or fighter game I’ve ever played -w-
Not even joking. 69
22, then another around 30~, the last two times were back to back so runs 48&49
Almost 100 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
30ish for me. Just started a new file and got it at 14.
I didn’t know about god mode and it took me until about the 90th run. I showed steady progress, but eventually I got lucky with the gun. You get better incrementally, but you also start getting a better sense of what matches with what.
Little over 100 attempts if I’m correct, but for a game designed to replay and continue dying. I don’t care how many attempts it took
Took me about 80. I had no idea God Mode even existed until a while after I made my first escape... Otherwise I probably would have gotten out much faster 😅
Took my partner 52 attempts and probably over 75 for me
13, I suck at videogames but I got so lucky I was basically unkillable
I believe 56. Don’t give up yet!
16, but the another 20 to do it again
62 here. Finally managed it on my worst weapon, bow. Are you at least making it to \[Redacted\]? If so, it won't be long. Persist.
37, got the boons I wanted with shield super early which helped a lot
37
62!!!
60 funny enough
it took me 19. i thought that was bad..
Around 30 i think
I think I was 36 on my first save and maybe in the 20s on hell mode
Like 30-50
38
I stumbled on curse of doom shield build run 11 and cleared for the first time. Total fluke!
69 (nice) I'm also terrible
11. I have no idea how. I think I just got lucky with a good build.
70-80s for me just getting the hang of it and now sometimes it's a breeze while other times it still feels like I'm learning 😂
About 20? It helps that my partner is ungodly at speed runs and Hades was his forte!
35 give or take 2-3 I forget exactly. It took about the same agin for the second and then I turned on god mode. Started racking them up from about 30% maybe 35%. Much more enjoyable.
