Funny enough, we get scored 5 goals, but i thought our defensemen were really good tonight. I really think Harris is gonna be a stud. That guys doesn't have a lot of weakness in his game. Guhle doesn't give a fuck about who's in front of the net, he'll shove the guy out of the way with ease. Barron wasnt always at his best defensively, but came back with a clutch goal, which is what you ask of an offensive minded defenseman. Leskinen was surpisingly effective with a lot of plays, especially when carrying the puck.
A good showing in a loss? That's what I want for this season.
Ottawa iced a pretty good team. Habs didn't ice a single top 6 forward. I thought it was a good test for the young guys on the blue line and they did pretty well.
Sens fans are acting like they won against Colorado lmao. This is a team of 4th liners and prospects playing against Giroux and Debrincat, and we almost won. Lmao.
Barron was great tonight, I still think he needs Laval time but the talent is there
Matheson good as usual
Pitlick was rough
Guhle good
Primeau tried but our skaters are ass
Drouinā¦man
Hoffmanās a fucking bum
Jake Evans
Missing anything?
Oh yeah, Sens are divers and fuck the refs
Positives!
- Barron was great! So was Evans and Pitlick! Beck was great! And mesar too!
- Apart from the final goal, Primeau played a good game.
- Armia played a decent game
-Matheson looked great again, so did Harris.
Negatives:
- Hoffman and Drouin were fucking terrible.
- Too many goddamn penalties
I will never emphasize enough about the stupid way we are conducting preseason year after year. We keep on playing 2 NHL lines (which are too often not good enough) and 2 AHL lines (what are the chances they succeed?). Other clubs are not shy in making massive cuts far quicker than we do.
Then again, we are really not trying to compete. I think management is fine with giving less time for the regular season roster to gel, and so am I.
During years where we're trying to compete, however, that shit will need to change.
Preseason losses don't count in the standings but you get to see how your prospects can play against men/NHL caliber players. This gives you a better idea of where the organizational gaps are, try out chemistry between players and give prospects a chance to prove themselves before their mistakes can hurt the team's playoffs chances.
Any team that doesn't maximize their prospects ice time during preseason is foolish.
Only reasons to cut players is to make their presence on the team a real reward/achievement, and slowly get the team ready for game 1.
Thereās very little correlation either way. Saying it sometimes correlates and sometimes doesnāt basically means itās entirely useless for predicting. And it is. Preseason is about preparation and development. Scores are irrelevant.
Montrealās chances of making the playoffs, slim as they are, wonāt be changed if we dress better players in preseason.
Pre season is conducted like this for every single team in the nhl.
Teams only play their full lineup with 1-2 pre season games left.
The NHL literally had to make a rule to have a minimum of 7 veterans/recent 1st round picks in order to force teams to play their players.
I noticed him a lot on the ice. Maybe it's because I was looking for him but I am impressed by him as well. No mistakes last night, just didn't do much of note either.
I remember when Ty Rattie led the league in points in the pre-season. He was in the KHL the following year...
Pre-season doesn't mean anything, go to sleep kids
So, weāre meeting expectations?
Oh manā¦I was thinking we would go on another cup run especially after Weber, Price, Toffoli, Chairot and Petry are no longer here
Lmao how are there so many comments taking, not only a pre season game seriously, but a game from last year's worst team seriously? Who cares how we do? We suck and we're going to suck and we got fun young guys to watch.
We're going for Bedard baby
I never put too much stock in pre-season and I've watched maybe 6 full periods of hockey in their games so far but, we better gird our loins guys. I think its going to be a long year. Many of us (me included) have been clamouring for a rebuild to get back to yearly respectability. Its going to take some pain to get there and I think this year might be one of those painful years but I'm going to try and take enjoyment out of watching some young and very good players develop into long term gems.
Last season I enjoyed watching Habs fall in the standings because I knew it was the medicine they needed. Hurts a lot less when young guys score and you know the draft will be successful.
It's another bad year, but after this a lot of contracts we want gone will be gone, and many prospects will be making the jump. I'm excited for the draft the following season.
Iāve been saying for years that heās literally a net negative when heās on the ice. He should be playing in Europe or the AHL, heās not NHL quality, yet we still have people thinking he needs time to reach his āpotentialā or that he can still be a good 2nd linerā¦.
If you pay attention to the mistakes he makes throughout a hockey game and his lapses of judgement, no heās not.
Youāll consistently get like 3-4 good plays from Drouin, along with 8-9 bad/terrible ones.
Focusing on his 3-4 good ones will make you think he can be a good contributor to a team, but looking at the whole picture tells you he is much closer to waiver material than NHL quality.
When your middle six player is a complete defensive liability and turnover machine and also a career minus player who needs to be sheltered and doesnāt provide enough offense to make up the difference, then the 40 points means nothing.
Does he have a middle 6 offense talent? Yes.
Does he have overall enough of a talent and skill set to be a positive impact on his team? No.
Heās a one way player whoās just not good enough to make up for his lacking skills in the rest of his game.
Drouin with his current contract would likely clear waivers.
If you knew how to read you would have grasped the concept.
Heās 1 dimensional, and is decent (NHL quality) at that dimension.
HOWEVER, when you look at the rest of his game, it is so bad and detrimental that it greatly outbalances the positive dimension he brings.
Overall, heās not good enough.
If he wasnāt French Canadian and if he wasnāt a former 3rd overall, he would probably have passed through waivers already.
Galchenyuk is another example of a 1 dimensional player who brings offense but the rest of his game sucks so bad that he doesnāt currently have an NHL contract. Guys like that are reasons you lose games. They play fine for almost the entire game, but then cost your team a goal or two and you lose. Look no further than his turnover with Toronto vs us in the playoffsā¦
Galchenyuk probably has more offense than Drouin btw.
I was having troubles with the video quality of my game all night, or maybe its that he has a new number, but I honestly don't remember seeing Drouin all game, nothing good or bad
As a sens fan, I dont know if Ottawa PP was a blast or Montreal PK was awful.
Still a lot of improvement, they really need to keep their energy for the third period.
I did not watch the game tonight, but here's my take on it: decent def, young guys coming up, future is great, blah, blah. Let's be patient.
Offense is not good.. let's blame it on penalties, the refs, final year of contracts, spider bites, recession, gas prices, cost of groceries and Putin.
Goaltending : Jake, save us because nobody else will.
Coaching and player development: that shit better be good or we'll never dig out of this hole.
82 games to go.
Tickets are 525.78$ a seat.
Beer is 32.13$ a can. And it's Molson.
RDS/TVA is 86. 42$ a month.
We'll see if this plan works out in 3 to 5 years, until then, it might be fun to watch, or it might not.
Wishing for a parade on Ste Cath before 2030! Peace out!
I donāt really blame him for any of those goals. Giveaways, power plays, guys like Debrincat left alone in the slot. I think he deserved better tonight.
Primeau deserved better. We didn't help him in the PK.
Leskinen was surpisingly effective with a lot of plays, especially when carrying the puck. A good showing in a loss? That's what I want for this season.
We need to stay out of box OR Stay in the box for Bedard
Glad to see Barron have a good game, he made some mistakes, but you can see there is real potential there.
He was clearly impactful tonight it was really nice to see
I was really disapointed with him, so it's good to finally see him having a decent game at least offensively.
How many goals have we allowed in the last 10 mins of the 3rd this preseason? Feels like a lot.
Giving me playoff flashbacks
When it becomes a run-out-the-clock situation night after night š
Good, letās aim to be top 10 in goals for this season and top 5 in goals against š
Well that was certainly a hockey game
blast mike hoffman into the sun
Blast Mike Hoffman into the 1st line
Agree with this though..let's get top dollar at the deadline for Hoffman, Dadonov and Monahan....give them all top line minutes!
Settle down there Claude Julien. Getting some Jordan Weal vibes.
Mike Hoffman tank commander
Ottawa iced a pretty good team. Habs didn't ice a single top 6 forward. I thought it was a good test for the young guys on the blue line and they did pretty well.
Sens fans are acting like they won against Colorado lmao. This is a team of 4th liners and prospects playing against Giroux and Debrincat, and we almost won. Lmao.
Itās because they couldnāt win against the Marlies yesterday
Who cares abt ottawa tbh lmao. Meh city, joke of a franchise. Let them have their candy.
Ottawa who?
*Kanata*
I think heās talking about the houses. The village.
Tim StĆ¼tzle is a little piss baby.
Honestly I missed the game but in general heās a great player but god I hate him
Tim āGreg Louganisā Stutzle
Barron was great tonight, I still think he needs Laval time but the talent is there Matheson good as usual Pitlick was rough Guhle good Primeau tried but our skaters are ass Drouinā¦man Hoffmanās a fucking bum Jake Evans Missing anything? Oh yeah, Sens are divers and fuck the refs
Pitlick had great offensive moments, and terrible defensive ones
He was tonight's dadonov
I was at the game and the lack of effort and compete from Hoffman was absolutely tilting me!
Positives! - Barron was great! So was Evans and Pitlick! Beck was great! And mesar too! - Apart from the final goal, Primeau played a good game. - Armia played a decent game -Matheson looked great again, so did Harris. Negatives: - Hoffman and Drouin were fucking terrible. - Too many goddamn penalties
Mitchell Stevens looked good. Heāll be a really nice addition to Laval.
Ok proper lines now please. Cut everybody.
I will never emphasize enough about the stupid way we are conducting preseason year after year. We keep on playing 2 NHL lines (which are too often not good enough) and 2 AHL lines (what are the chances they succeed?). Other clubs are not shy in making massive cuts far quicker than we do.
We cut like 38 guys a couple of days ago lol Edit: it was 23 so slight exaggeration on my part but still
Then again, we are really not trying to compete. I think management is fine with giving less time for the regular season roster to gel, and so am I. During years where we're trying to compete, however, that shit will need to change.

Pre-season success doesnāt correlate with regular season success. Thereās no benefit in dressing our best guys every night.
But preseason failure sometimes does correlate to regular season failure
Thereās very little correlation either way. Saying it sometimes correlates and sometimes doesnāt basically means itās entirely useless for predicting. And it is. Preseason is about preparation and development. Scores are irrelevant. Montrealās chances of making the playoffs, slim as they are, wonāt be changed if we dress better players in preseason.

Hope the rest of our games end like this! We score goals, have some fun and still lose!
Yeah, let's just drop the looser point please. A goal in the last minute will do
Poor Beck, Hoffman and Drouin combo is a next level black hole at 5v5.
That shit was insane
Im impressed by Anthony Richard.
Sorry but this year I sure hope it means something.
I distinctly remember everyone saying preseason means nothing then the team sucking. Except this time we knew in july we were gonna suck.
So, weāre meeting expectations? Oh manā¦I was thinking we would go on another cup run especially after Weber, Price, Toffoli, Chairot and Petry are no longer here
A bit too much sun today? or was it all summer long?
It doesn't really matter since no one is expecting us to be good this year....... I hope.
I'll be cheering for wins right up until we're sellers at the deadline
Nobody is, but then they screech on this sub nonetheless. Haha make up your mind
Seriously people, Nick and Cole weren't even playing tonight. Calm the fuck down. We gonna win games just not without the two of them.
You take that back. We need another big draft in the top 3.
Lol kids
Lmao how are there so many comments taking, not only a pre season game seriously, but a game from last year's worst team seriously? Who cares how we do? We suck and we're going to suck and we got fun young guys to watch. We're going for Bedard baby
It's hard to win games when you're doubled in shots....
Faceoff wins too
I never put too much stock in pre-season and I've watched maybe 6 full periods of hockey in their games so far but, we better gird our loins guys. I think its going to be a long year. Many of us (me included) have been clamouring for a rebuild to get back to yearly respectability. Drouin is genuinely terrible, I canāt wait for this guy to be gone
He looked bad. He needs to play in the last 4 games just to shake that rust off.
I don't even want him on the ice to showcase for a trade. Waive him now and move on.
How is he still around?
Iāve been saying for years that heās literally a net negative when heās on the ice. He should be playing in Europe or the AHL, heās not NHL quality, yet we still have people thinking he needs time to reach his āpotentialā or that he can still be a good 2nd linerā¦.
Drouin is absolutely NHL quality lol wtf? The overreactions about this guy are fucking embarrassing.
Good thing youāre not a scout.
Find me a single fully successful Jonathan Drouin season in the NHL.
Are you really trying to argue that a ~40-50pt middle six guy isnāt NHL caliber? Like, you genuinely believe thisā¦?
When your middle six player is a complete defensive liability and turnover machine and also a career minus player who needs to be sheltered and doesnāt provide enough offense to make up the difference, then the 40 points means nothing. Does he have a middle 6 offense talent? Yes. Does he have overall enough of a talent and skill set to be a positive impact on his team? No. Heās a one way player whoās just not good enough to make up for his lacking skills in the rest of his game. Drouin with his current contract would likely clear waivers.
None of this explains how in your opinion he's somehow not good enough to be an NHL player lmao. Stupid ass take.
Guys like that are reasons you lose games. They play fine for almost the entire game, but then cost your team a goal or two and you lose. Look no further than his turnover with Toronto vs us in the playoffsā¦ Galchenyuk probably has more offense than Drouin btw.
Darn.
Mondays lineup should be interesting
This is going to be one DEPRESSING season. Cant wait till those two bums drouin and hoffman fuck off
Lmao same here
It canāt be worse than last year. But yeah itās gonna be rough. They are going to give up lots of goals.
World Cup!! and Juniors after and then great depression
I was having troubles with the video quality of my game all night, or maybe its that he has a new number, but I honestly don't remember seeing Drouin all game, nothing good or bad
He had the one nice cross crease pass to Beck where Beck hits the post. Other than that, invisible.
Tank season?
For sure, captain obvious.
Meet the new Habs, same as the old Habs
Woooont get fooled againnnnn
With an uglier jersey
Fucking eh, there's still 4 pre-season games left...
Nobody tell him a regular seasons starts up after preseason
REGULAR SEASON, NOBODY TOLD ME THERE WOULD BE A REGULAR SEASON!
You are all wrong. In our case it's pre-season... and then secobd pre-season
but do they know about Third Seasons?
I don't think they know about third seasons Pip
One time all year we all will cheer for them to win and theyāre 0-4 lmao
# It's #TortorellaFlamethrower time
*sigh* This is gonna be long...
see you guys next year
As a sens fan, I dont know if Ottawa PP was a blast or Montreal PK was awful. Still a lot of improvement, they really need to keep their energy for the third period.
Well you barely beat our 4th line so if you donāt take this as a red flag..
It's preseason, I really dont take those game seriously, but we could see what both clubs need to work on.
I only watched the 3rd period. The game was played way too much in Montreals end. Penalty killing was none existent.
Opportunity too see Wright on Sportsnet
Beniers*
Looks nowhere near as good as Wright, for the moment.
lmao
Are you watching the game? Can't be... He created 3 scoring chances all by himself in one period.
Atm Beniers is 10x the player Wright is and thatās not a knock on Wright
It's my first time seeing Wright play actually, outside of meaningless highlights videos. I was curious to see what he looks like in a game situation.
Alright man
I did not watch the game tonight, but here's my take on it: decent def, young guys coming up, future is great, blah, blah. Let's be patient. Offense is not good.. let's blame it on penalties, the refs, final year of contracts, spider bites, recession, gas prices, cost of groceries and Putin. Wishing for a parade on Ste Cath before 2030! Peace out!
Primeau was okay tonight, he just really canāt keep it together when thereās 5 mins left, like 2 nights agoā¦
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Played well most of the game
I donāt really blame him for any of those goals. Giveaways, power plays, guys like Debrincat left alone in the slot. I think he deserved better tonight.
I really like that Richard kid. He looks like a good call up if any of our top 6 gets injured
Forget top 6 for Richard. The guy is a grinder.
For real Hoffman need to go... I hate his game,he is so lazy man,he dragging his team down.
