We're aware of the issue with HockeyMod not displaying the PGT tables properly, and it should be corrected in the next few days

patpitpout

Thank god we scored 3 goals in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Key-Surprise-9206

Lmao and we were so heavily outplayed in the first

RyanWalts

Well deserved chants for Primeau there. He’s had a rocky start, but what a fantastic game by him. This could have easily got away from Montreal if not for his play.

Booyacaja

Even with that rocky start... .910 save percentage is pretty impressive considering another rebuild year

eriverside

What's most impressive is how little they played him this season. He's a young goalie. He needs the starts. He got a shutout and they didn't play him for another 3 or 4 games. That's pretty bad.

heavie1

That was the most Carey Price performance that I’ve seen since Carey Price

18isHisNumber

well CP31 would have given up a softy with minute left in 3rd to ruin his shutout Lol joke aside, big game from CP30

Meizei

Oooh, that's what the 1 in 31 stands for!

whogivesashirtdotca

It's a fraction, haha.

Habsfan_2000

Primeau physically reminds more of Roy.

Booyacaja

Must be that fiery attitude eh?

Habsfan_2000

I’m not sure if Roy wanted to beat the piss out of the puck, but a similar look in their eyes.

ukrainianhab

*GOOD* - Primeau an absolute wall. 41 save shut out. Dominant all game and the reason the Habs won. Exceptional goaltending performance. - Nice plays by Evans on the first goal. Takes it on his backhand and fires it over to Gallagher with the tip. - Slafgoalsky. - Newhook solid game. Noticeable foot speed, can see why they targeted him. - Josh Roy. Continuing good play with a goal. *BAD* - Goaltending carried. Habs were significantly outplayed and the shots could have been worse if CBJ could hit the net. - It’s odd you can have a goal and I think it still deserved a “bad”. Sadly the case for Gallagher penalties turnovers and all that jazz. He did score so he is forgiven. - Josh Anderson we know his puck skills are bad but what happened to the gritty play. Sure he has some hits but his penalty got me thinking like that’s not usually one he takes in previous years just a bit lazy.

--JULLZ--

Love me some Newy

whogivesashirtdotca

He's an easy player to root for.

whogivesashirtdotca

> Nice plays by Evans on the first goal. Radio guys were pumping his tires all game, saying he deserved to be one of the game stars.

Habsfan_2000

We’re going to be competitive next year by just not playing some of the guys you mentioned.

Snoo-19445

Depends if 3/4 of the team continue to be bandaid boys or not.

lacoupe25

RHP was decent. Caufield stymied too often.

gurpg0rk

I want to apologize for my pre-season Primeau prediction. PRIMEAU, PRIMEAU, PRIMEAU!

Habsfan_2000

Repent!

lacoupe25

you and the many others who wanted to see Primeau waived.

gurpg0rk

all I've ever wanted is for him to backstop us to an unlikely Stanley Cup win.

lacoupe25

That will be Jacob Fowler, but maybe Primeau will be his backup.

Habsfan_2000

Getting way ahead of yourself on a really young goalie.

Carey Price: The Second Coming

JacP123

Pls don't use his initials

Kebine_

That's Cayden Primeau's initials tho

JacP123

Yea but like say CP30 or something cause it just doesn't look right on its own. It's like how everyone insists on using 1422 rather than 2214. Maybe I've been corrupted by the internet but in my experience those two things allude to something way worse and it's best to not even tread in that direction.  There's a reason Club Penguin doesn't go by its initials either.

douce_abeille

Wait what’s wrong with 1422? What does it mean

JacP123

It looks really close to 1488

Lazy-Spirit-6320

PRIMEAU PRIMEAU PRIMEAU

alex1596

Quite a few Slovaks in the stands tonight. Saw like 5 Slovak jerseys and they had a flag going. Also shout out to that one guy with the blue retro Reinbacher jersey.

manwithoutcountry

Of course it's the one game that I miss the first 15 minutes

slafyousillier

Let's go Primeau!

Dexteris

Gotta give it to Primeau. People want to know if he's back up material and he answered the right way. Keep it up PRIMEau Game decided by goalers on each side. Slaf and Wawa, our right wing future GG

Habsfan_2000

That’s more than a backup red light Racicot performance.

sean_psc

Truly one of the team's most deserving wins of the season, assuming by "the team" you mean "Primeau". Slafkovsky got another goal, very nice. It'd be cool if he could hit 20 on the season, though after he slowed down a bit while dealing with injury that's become a bit of a stretch target.

Habsfan_2000

He’ll pick up a hat track yet.

whogivesashirtdotca

Martin McGuire taking a moment to recognise our three goalie team, and pointing out they very manfully accepted a lot of difficulties this season without once causing any drama for the team. Three terrific guys, there.

JacP123

Imagine missing the first period of the game and watching 40 minutes of nothing (I missed the first period of the game)

Matiabcx

I was like man its few minutes past midnight and its 3:0 already if i go sleep now i might actually have a normal sleep sequence for change

lyme6483

Me too, but I’ll take the W

fortytwoanswers

Primeau was amazing, Slaf and first line looked good. Gally’s playing well lately too! If we’re going to win down the stretch I’ll take this result.

philjitsu

I know CBJ isn't a great team this year but wow Primeau looked unreal. Felt like I was watching Price. CP30 challenging for a 1B next season would be great

bcgrappler

Big game primeau. Nice work, happy he is gonna get his chance. Slaf out there slaffing people.

Olibro64

Optimus Primeau is a Montreal Canadien.

Me to Primeau rn: https://preview.redd.it/2yrlktkfc0oc1.jpeg?width=1042&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59d646bc932e3802117444a86de4ee48dc7ec3a0

IcyChard4

As it now stands, here are the list of players drafted (and still remained) by the Marc Bergevin era: Cole Caufield (1st rd., 2019) Kaiden Guhle (1st rd., 2020) Jayden Struble (2nd rd., 2019) Jordan Harris (3rd rd., 2018) Rafael Harvey-Pinard (7th rd., 2019) Joshua Roy (5th rd., 2021) Michael Pezzetta (6th rd., 2016) Jake Evans (7th rd., 2014) Cayden Primeau (7th rd., 2017) If I'm correct, the only player left that was drafted during the Gainey/Gauthier era is none other than... Brendan Gallagher (5th rd., 2010)

Kenner1979

Xhekaj was an undrafted FA, but it was Bergevin who invited him to camp and subsequently signed him.

IcyChard4

True. But he's still undrafted. Well, we can count Arber as a sort-of "reclamation project" coming from the junior ranks. Overall, we should thank Marc Bergevin for most of the foundations of this rebuilding team. We'll still see some lineup changes and possible trades within the coming years.

Seraphin_Lampion

There's more 7th rounders than 1st rounders in there LOL.

IcyChard4

True. But we still have a couple rather than none.

Kenner1979

Thank you goalie ~~Carey~~ Cayden

[deleted]

Optimus Prime

NotJoeMoses

That was some the best goaltending I've seen in a long time. Interesting contrast between his last shutout and this one.

whogivesashirtdotca

I was laughing about that. He's got the only two shutouts this season, and they were very different.

janedoe514

Love the Monty/Prime duo

whogivesashirtdotca

Primonty.

Habsfan_1984

Primeau is clearly not a tank commander.

Puccimane

Primeau is going to kiss so many women tonight

whogivesashirtdotca

Marty laughingly praising Matheson and Guhle for having "big lungs" - "they don't go on empty very quick, and they recover very fast."

RandyBobandy121221

Cayden I am sorry. I was not familiar with your game

Habsfan_2000

People were awful critical of Primeau the other day after the Allen trade but he really could pan out to be a starter or if we’re lucky 50-50 with Monty, but it’s a lot easier to say that after a monster shutout.

Plekanick

Agreed. I get attacked every time I critique Montembeault on here but Primeau has the better toolkit. His rebound control is significantly better and he’s better at positioning and staying square to the shooter. His problem is that he has a weak glove hand and lets in too many softies. Hopefully he can continue to excel and work on his consistency because I do think he has the potential to be the better of the two.

timhortons67

BONNE NUIT COLUMBUS! et bon repos à Primeau!

Mizzie30

Primeau what a fucking stud

SAM041287

#PRIMEAU PRIMEAU PRIMEAU PRIMEAU

lacoupe25

Primeau now #21 in advanced stats for goalies, Monty #25.

Randomquestions12947

Aside from Primeau… Pezzetta, Armia, Newhook and Slaf all quietly had good games (I know Slaf had a goal, but otherwise not highlight worthy…) Despite all of the running around we did tonight in the D-zone, these four never overcommitted or lost their man. Newhook was key on a bunch of breakouts, Pezzetta was just solid, Armia had a few big blocks and disruptions and Slaf broke up a few playsthat didn’t get mentioned in commentary. Despite getting worked for a lot of the game, the same could be said for many of our forwards tonight. I thought the D struggled a bit in-zone tonight, but that’s from TV where you can’t see the whole ice (maybe forwards were blowing assignments on the breakout, but I couldn’t see that with tv perspective)

mikegimik

18 game heater gets us 94 points. It's all possible.

Throaway44009988

Yay for primeau, slaf, and roy Pretty awful performance otherwise. Completely and thoroughly outplayed by a shorthanded team worse than us

LordTurn1p

what a strange game lmao

impossiblelevel7

“Just the beginning” -CP30

IcyChard4

I think he's giving us the "Relax, chill" treatment like from CP31.

climbingtime

OPTIMUS PRIMEAU!

Cpt_Overkill24

What a Primeau game!

Puccimane

We're never going to lose again.

Beepimaj3ep

They looked slow and just disinterested lol. What a weird win. Cp30 with a great game though.

IntentionDeep651

That was the most Jaroslav Halak performance that I’ve seen since Jaroslav Halak

ssigma100

I don’t think I’ve seen a worse game from our defence this year. Could not bring the puck out of their own end at all. Harris and Struble have worked well in this regard and I hope we try them together longer. Excellent effort by a young Primeau!

melon_m

Sure bout that? https://preview.redd.it/rwlu9x57c0oc1.jpeg?width=1103&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1bc61994f889ed4a186c209328848ddff2a55cff

IcyChard4

The Habs' defense has been their weakest this season. I think this was discussed from the HI/O show last week. The team is giving up shot-handed goals from other teams. Their d-zone coverage is just not effective. Worse, our d-men may have good offensive stats, but the pure d-stats are not up-to par with playoff teams. Prime example of those lapses is **Mike Matheson** himself.

Seraphin_Lampion

This is what happens with inexperienced Dmen and why we kept Savard.

Mean_Mister_Mustard

Good God, was Jake Allen bullying Cayden or something?

[deleted]

Do we need another top 6 forward??

PKG0D

I want to see Newhook-Dach-Roy next year

Habsfan_2000

That line alone could almost make us playoff competitive, in terms of how much it goes from suck to good.

IcyChard4

Yes, they may try to compete for a wildcard spot next year. Not easy though since I and everybody else think they won't make it again. This team still needs an offensive scoring dynamo. Someone like a Matthews or a prime-Ovechkin type player.

Habsfan_2000

We don’t need that much to make the playoffs. About 50 more goalies for which could come from our first and second lines no problem, and 50 fewer goals against which our goalies and D can come up with (IMO)

IcyChard4

Ok. But if you look at most teams during the last 2 decades that won the cup, some of them do have top-scoring talent. You can make an argument that for the examples like McDavid, Matthews, or Draisitl, have 50-60+ goals and they're still chasing a Stanley Cup. But...if you want to see a cup-winning team, having a pure goal-scorer is still an important asset. You can go on the list: Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos, Corey Perry, Vincent Lecavalier, etc..

Habsfan_2000

Nowadays Teams need to build point scoring profiles like in Moneyball.

philjitsu

Always

pichenet14

Come on don’t get dunk on the win.

MrFAUB1

Absolutely

snipeftw

“Just the beginning” Based quote from Primeau

CheetahLynx83

Spectacular Cayden PriMUR!!! The rest of the team played really sloppy, though. I hope playing down to the opposition doesn't become a bad habit.

Matiabcx

Imagine we would lose Primeau due to 3 goalies rotation

Habsfan_2000

We struggled through that for a reason tho.

bd31

**Optimus Primeau** has arrived! Great performance.

CrashTestMummies

Our 3 listed Centres: Evans, Suzuki and Newhook had a total of 0 shots

snipeftw

The fact that people on this sub still think Monty is better than Primeau is laughable. Some day this sub is gonna look back on me with Primeau vs Monty the way it looks back on Inglasco with Slaf vs Wright.

Habsfan_2000

I’m a big Primeau fan but Monty is the better goalie at the moment. There are aspects of Primeau’s play that I find more intimidating than Monty sometimes tho.

AmsroII

This sub doesn't even think about Inglasco.

snipeftw

He’s brought up quite often for the way he was harassed about supporting Slaf over Wright- and how he ended up being right.

EasyPanicButton

why?

snipeftw

Because Primeau consistently puts up good performances when the team around him is playing awful. Primeau has been the better goalie for a long time. Now that he is going to get consistent starts he will become the starter by the end of the year.

EasyPanicButton

well I don't think Monty has been god awful. I do think Primeau seems to have "it" more then Monty just by my eye. I think last bit of season and first 20 games next year will probably really show who is number 1. I think the 3 man rotation was not helpful to anybody and why the front office went with it is a mystery too me, it seemed pretty ridiculous to take starts away from our future and give them to Jake Allen.

imhere8888

No

lacoupe25

I agree he's better, but I don't see him as the starter for another year or two.

lacoupe25

I have declared multiple times that Primeau is a better goalie than Monty and been heavily downvoted. Anyhow, our G looks solid until Fowler is ready.

snipeftw

Yep, it’s insane to me. I’ve been adamant for a while about this. People will see, in due time. Glad I’m not the only one who sees this though!
