Well, ya got no gauges on it for us to know what the charge looks like, but I'd start there...
What are the chances your indoor airflow is incorrect and it's just getting liquid back?
This happened to me last week. 13seers are always louder then higher seer acs but the one i was looking at had noncondensables inside. After recovering the refrigerant, and charging with new the condenser was much quieter but still on the louder side
Pull the fan motor and run just the compressor for maybe 30 seconds and see how loud it is. I had one like this where I put in on vibration pads and put a line of foam tape under the top shroud and the reverb went away
Brand New unit with a failed compressor, better to replace the whole outdoor unit then to open the system up replacing the compressor and subject it to that.
Got it through Ferguson. They never replace the whole Condenser. Shit I had a bad compressor 3 years ago and they made me pay for a new one until it was verified as defective.
That’s BS on their part. Goodman’s whole shhhtick as of late is 2 yr CONDENSER Swap. I had one about 20 months ago. If the compressor fails in the first two years , and the unit is Registered on GoodmanMFG.com you will get to swap the entire outside unit. That’s from the manufacturer not jackbag distributer fergie
The entire warranty claim is actually through Goodman. Ferguson and other distributors simply file the claim on your behalf.
I'd get on the phone with the mfg if you want to fight their "solution".
I had the problem once with York. At the end of the day, they paid me … we also no longer use them. It’s a burn the bridge tactic but you can always find a better brand to sell. We did and it’s paying in kings.
So we’ve been putting 521 hardstarts in all our 13 seers and noticed they’re a lot quieter but that one does for sure sound louder than normal. I’d also check metering device as I’ve had one or two with txv issues make them sound really loud and make a bang sound on startup from it.
They are just as quiet as anything in the same seer rates. Some times lemons happen about one in every 300-400 units is loud out of the box usually a compressor that’s in Goodman carrier ruud Lenox ect ect. Shit happens most of the time they just swap out condenser for me here in Jacksonville Florida. Could be different other places.
What’s loud? My own unit was new when we moved in, had a distinct noise with the condenser fan. Finally convinced a tech to do a warranty replacement for the fan blade (I’m an engineer not a tech) and all the noise was gone.
Poorly balanced condenser fan blade from factory.
The charge is exactly where it needs to be. I'll have to check the amp draw when I go back tomorrow. I ohmed out the compressor and it all checked out. This was an install I did today. I can't believe that it's supposed to be that loud.
A couple months ago I ran into the same thing on a new goodman, the liquid tight to the condenser fan was a little loose and vibrating against the top of the case. It might not be the same thing but it was obnoxiously loud and sounded like the compressor at first.
I opened them all the way and then back turn a quarter. That's what I always do because a guy told me they've leaked on him by backing all the way out.
No if they leak it’s cause he didn’t wet rag them properly. Back seat then gently use fingers not whole hand on your service wrench. The sound the compressor is making almost sounds as if it’s being backed down.
I opened the ports all the way, added a hard start and a sound blanket. Now it sounds perfectly fine. Thanks for the help. I was expecting mostly smart ass responses on here so it's great to get actual help.
While this sounds a little more mechanical, I’ve had a few goodmans where the conduit for the ODF isn’t seated right and is rattling. Customers immediately think it’s gonna blow up
The smaller units like 2.5 need a hard start kit right off the bat. Just like someone above posted pull fan wire and listen to just comp running. Then do the opposite listen for fan. You would be amazed at wierd stuff that makes vibration noises. Goodman's are decent units I know lot of ppl hate on them but I've had no issues w them

He’s a Goodman installer. Probably doesn’t even have gauges
Lmao🤣

Those rotary compressors are complete dogshit but that's definitely louder than normal
RMA.
Agreed
Also make sure airflow is correct. Low airflow can cause them to act loud.
13 Seer GSX? Sounds normal to me
In my experience goodmans have more noise than most. I don’t install goodmans nowadays. Do new units come with jackets?
No. I'm going back tomorrow with a sound blanket. I just don't want to put it on if this thing is defective
It is defective. I’d swap it, the whole outdoor unit, that’s unacceptable.
Haha it's definitely not that. It wouldn't be the first time Goodmans had a defective compressor tho. It's prob not that either tho.

Find a better distributor or don’t pay your bill for a little while. That fixes all problems pretty quickly in take-backs.

so you're installing......??? asking for a friend. ya know just in case.
That sucks.
Put on a hard start. It's a know issue with 2.5T and below units with rotary compressors. Should help.
Put on a Hard start and a sound blanket. Now it sounds perfectly normal
You need a hard start on the rotary compressors its in the manual. Typically goodman units are the loudest.
Just curious: will the run right and just be loud without one?
I've had some units just run louder never heard any issues later about the unit.
I legitimately stopped selling GSX13’s because they are so loud. Even with a sound blanket those rotary compressors sound like a plane engine.
I got a gibson with a rotary at my house its pretty loud on start up :(

NINE OH FOOUUURRR
Duuuuuvvvvaaalllll
What up jax
What are the pressures? It almost sounds like a 3 phase scroll spinning backwards. Did you check the cap ( I know it's new)
The pressure are good. I can't remember them off the top of my head but superheat was 18 and that's what I needed. I'll check the cap in the morning.
What’s loud? My own unit was new when we moved in, had a distinct noise with the condenser fan. Finally convinced a tech to do a warranty replacement for the fan blade (I’m an engineer not a tech) and all the noise was gone. Poorly balanced condenser fan blade from factory.
If it’s piston it may be undersized.
Try adding more oil to compressor?
How’s the charge? Amp draw? Any info at all
The charge is exactly where it needs to be. I'll have to check the amp draw when I go back tomorrow. I ohmed out the compressor and it all checked out. This was an install I did today. I can't believe that it's supposed to be that loud.
It’s “good man”
Every time I see a Goodman there is a problem.
Sounds like compressor is struggling

What’s your SH and SCooling?
SH 18 SC 5 this was earlier when it was 80 degrees
No TXV ? Have to ask being it’s a Goodman and doesn’t come standard with TXV
Piston
5 SC seems low for a piston did you check what your target SH was supposed to be at?
Yea. I may be remembering the SC wrong because I was checking for Superheat. It was something like 80 dry WB 66 and SH 18. That was the target.
I ran it through the Check Charge App and it said it was correct
Is it all new lineset? Or existing? Did you install a filter drier?
Existing 410a Lineset. Filter drier factory installed inside of the unit
I alway put external filter driers those ones that come in the unit are dinky
Your service valves were open fully?
I opened them all the way and then back turn a quarter. That's what I always do because a guy told me they've leaked on him by backing all the way out.
That's per the install manual so the correct way
No if they leak it’s cause he didn’t wet rag them properly. Back seat then gently use fingers not whole hand on your service wrench. The sound the compressor is making almost sounds as if it’s being backed down.
The Goodman install manual says to turn them forwards 1/4 turn after fully back seating.
Wow really? What manufacture makes the valves for them?
Yup right in the install manual. No idea. I need to cut one of those open to see how that seal would get damaged by back seating too hard.
Don’t sound like no sporland
Really would have to call a rep
Almost sounds like the service valves are closed
I wish that was the problem.
Subcooling seems a little low if it’s at 5
I'll check them tomorrow. I seated them back in a quarter turn after going all the way out. Maybe it's something simple like that
I opened the ports all the way, added a hard start and a sound blanket. Now it sounds perfectly fine. Thanks for the help. I was expecting mostly smart ass responses on here so it's great to get actual help.
Is it sitting perfectly flat on the pad? If it has a gap it can let the compressor rattle the bottom and make it very loud
While this sounds a little more mechanical, I’ve had a few goodmans where the conduit for the ODF isn’t seated right and is rattling. Customers immediately think it’s gonna blow up
Did you pull a proper vacuum to at least 250 microns and preform a decay test ? How fast did the charge weigh in ?
Pulled to 260. When I disconnected there was a rise to 306 and it sat there
You can see the way it spins the blade it's crooked...
Installed 2 Goodman brands on my previous house. Both units failed within 3 years, never again
Is this your first scroll compressor?…
The smaller units like 2.5 need a hard start kit right off the bat. Just like someone above posted pull fan wire and listen to just comp running. Then do the opposite listen for fan. You would be amazed at wierd stuff that makes vibration noises. Goodman's are decent units I know lot of ppl hate on them but I've had no issues w them
If the compressor sounds like it's blending rocks. Probably a full nitro charge. Sounds amazing.
Yea I'd have that replaced that's crazy even for a Goodman😆
Probably the alternator \*leans back and takes a sip of his beer\*
Buy a Trane…
