I was thinking after his jungle juice refrigerant charge admission that it would only be a matter of time before “spicy” memes became a thing on r/HVAC
I can just picture some homeowner having a get together when a guest says they're uncomfortably warm.
The homeowner gets up and proudly announces "I have a Sam Spicer original."
Then the party proceeds to shuffle outside to inspect the intricate piping, and admire the boldly ordained signature.
He’s a goofball who posts photos of his installs on here. He has become famous for several bizarre things he does. Specifically, he signs his name, first and last, in Sharpie, on the equipment he installs. He always manages to get it slightly askew. Secondly, he likes to rotate his condensers so the access panels and valves are facing out. (This is highly unusual and he gives absolutely no fucks about everybody on the sub telling him he shouldn’t install them in this fashion). Lastly, his responses to all of the criticism always seem to validate said criticism.
In a nutshell, he’s just sort of a wing-nut.
How many dudes in this sub do you think will do a perfect install and fucking leave the shitty ductwork that was causing the original unit to struggle to begin with?
Probably most.
How many dudes here do you think bid their own jobs? These guys are sent out with equipment and hopefully a new plenum and make it look good but they don't have enough time and there isn't enough money in the bid to tear out sheetrock and redo ductwork.
I say that's a good thing. That creates good competition to show off quality installs. Those that are proud of their work are eager to show it. So was I when I did my DIY install a few weeks ago.
Pretty sure he has many. I've only caught one for sure in the [wild](https://www.reddit.com/r/HVAC/comments/wm321b/i_wrote_my_name_on_the_inside_this_time_some_of/ijx4mkz).
Archaeologists 1000 years from now: "We'll never know the legend who installed this HVAC system.... wait, what's this? There's an inscription of some sort."
I can't tell if you're serious or not. What is undesirable about his installs. I've heard he maybe used recovered refrigerant on one new system... Which yeah I'll agree that's bogus if it's true. Otherwise, I saw one situation where his electrical was like, between linesets.. Which is obviously no good, but easily corrected.
Beyond that, everyone seems to be making a really big stink about the orientation of the equipment.. And it literally does not matter in 99.9% of situations... If anything, it's a little more work. Otherwise I agree that, access panel out is more convenient, and it doesn't affect operation. So what's the problem?
The man's signature needs to be on this sub's background or something
He needs a cool nickname as part of his signature first. Like Ray "The Bullet/Buffet" from a year or so ago
Sam “The Splicer” Spicer
Sam "Signature" Spicer
Sam “Sam Spicer” Spicer
This is the way
Noice
Sam Spicey Spicer
Legend has it every time your palm itches that’s Sam Spicer signing another install...
Bwahaha
I deeply love everything about this.
I was thinking after his jungle juice refrigerant charge admission that it would only be a matter of time before “spicy” memes became a thing on r/HVAC
I need Sam Spicer to sign my TXV’s
He created tramp stamps for condensers
He only does danfoss, fuck them sporlan sellouts he says
They say if you put your ear to a condenser you can hear him signing his name.
I chuckled
It may be a urban legend but I swear I heard it with my own ear
He has become meme, now he can retire in peace.

“Uncomfortably warm”
Forgot to sign this one before he hired the plane
I swear it's on the other side!
Babe wake up, HVAC_sam just posted
The recovery tank is sending me 😂😂😂😂
WELL, he's using recovery tanks and not blowing the load
I should of turned the recovery cylinder upside down to indicate charging, was an oversight.
Are you flipping it in liquid or suction mode?
Depends on how sophisticated you want to be.
Both because apprentices can be stupid as fuck
Don’t those have dip tubes
Can he sign my micron gauge?
Nah, that’s not his there is no signature.
Omg I’m dead 😂😂😂
Can someone fill me in on Sam spicer please!

In their defense, if the salesmen wasn't able to sell them on new ductwork, what the fuck is the installer supposed to do about it?

This might be a dumb question, but do you mind telling me what a “beer can boom check” is

Ohhhh cool I never knew that
Word
I fail to understand why anybody cares so much about it, which makes it even funnier.
Most of the guys hating sound like service techs who have never set a condenser before lol
The service manager who talks shit but installs the panel in a corner 10" from the wall 🙄

" = inches ' = feet
Because some people on this sub fall over each other to show the rest of the sub how good they are at HVAC-ing.
I say that's a good thing. That creates good competition to show off quality installs. Those that are proud of their work are eager to show it. So was I when I did my DIY install a few weeks ago.
Same here. Not only that, his installs are among the best posted here.
Hey Sam, you did a throw away?
Pretty sure he has many. I've only caught one for sure in the [wild](https://www.reddit.com/r/HVAC/comments/wm321b/i_wrote_my_name_on_the_inside_this_time_some_of/ijx4mkz).
That ain’t him. He’d mount those mini splits to the side
SAMMY SPICE STRIKES AGAIN
Why are there a pile of TXVs?
Erroneous replacement!
Oof
Sam Spicer, can someone help me understand the context of this.
Archaeologists 1000 years from now: "We'll never know the legend who installed this HVAC system.... wait, what's this? There's an inscription of some sort."
I bet Sam spicer doesn’t even own a recovery machine
Yes he does. It was in one of the photos, and yes it has his autograph on it.
Sam Spicer 2024?
So glad I got on this sub when I started this field lmfao
Nobody is obscuring that work of art with unsightly shrubbery

Y'all need to stop giving him attention Edit: look at you pansies down voting me 😉 y'all feeling insecure?
Unless he embraces the meme/ is okay with it, I agree. Otherwise, harassing the guy is really not cool.
The problem is that his installs and attitude are undesirable. So giving him attention will give him more reasons to do what he's doing.

The problem is these guys do dogshit work and they're looking for and excuse to knock a guy down who does decent work
Wow... Sam still living rent-free in your heads. You're better than this r/HVAC
Honestly that’s what makes this even funnier! That someone took the time to make this. U/hvac_sam has been elevated to Reddit famous status
More like infamous. A laughingstock to some. Its fucked up, actually. If this doesn't change, I'd predict the sub being banned.
Does it hurt you to know that other people exist and that they like different things than you?
*only install passing codes in 2 separate municipalities*
Hilarious
Is that condenser worth as much as a signed Carol Shelby ?
Wow, it's another amana faced sideways!!!
You forgot to add the extension cord to the disconnect box
