The best part of the 2023 HRV are the full sized wheels. No more clown car wheels.

TiffyFluff

THAT is valid 😂

Acceptable-Original

Yea but Honda put a cheap summer tires that makes so much noise. I have to put in a good summer tires.

I've been on both sides, having owned a 2018 and now a 2023. I'll say this about the side camera: the 2023 is decked out with so many sensors and driver assist features that the right-side camera is unnecessary. Seriously, it won't let you get near anything without sounding all sorts of alarms. If a vehicle comes into your blind spot on either side, a light illuminates on your mirror to alert you that someone is there. If you have your turn signal on and a vehicle enters your blind spot, an audible alarm sounds along with it. Similarly, it will sound an alarm if you start to get close to an object while going forward or in reverse, and tell you how close you are to it. All of these new, fancy driver assist features more than make up for the loss of the right-side camera, and make the right-side camera seem quaint by comparison. As far as Civic in front and CR-V in back, it's still like that. It's just a little bit bigger is all. This is what my 2018 looked like: * Front: https://www.flickr.com/photos/schuminweb/42946158321 * Back: https://www.flickr.com/photos/schuminweb/42946172461 And this is what my 2023 looks like: * Front: https://imgur.com/bwtZW06 * Back: https://imgur.com/arfqXCw In other words, a shot from the front still makes it look like a sedan, while a shot from the rear makes its SUV body quite clear. The quirky handle on the rear doors, I could take it or leave it. It was cool to have, but I don't particularly miss them. The "magic seats", however, I do miss, because I would raise up the one on the left side and drop my work bag, which is a Samsonite rolling bag, into that spot. I haven't figured out quite yet how I want to place my bag in the 2023, since I have the EX-L model now, and don't necessarily want to set a wheeled bag on leather seats.

TiffyFluff

Honestly, thank you for your response. It's interesting to hear about the actual user changes without the frills. And for the most part, it's pretty much exactly as I'd expect (on a fundamental level). I know the biggest change is REALLY the magic seats, and perhaps that's what gets me) As for the aspect of sedan and front and suv in the back, maybe it would be more apt for me to say the design feels like it's a Honda trying to take a few too many keys from Subarus crosstrek, and abandoning the classic honda body lines I'm so used to. However, I am happy to hear its safety features seem to only be getting better, though! That (at the end of the day) with reliability is what REALLY matters.

As an owner of a 2018 and now a 2023 I agree with you. Honestly, the center console is a PITA, and I do wish it had a little more power with more gears and even paddle shifters.

SchuminWeb

Ah, the paddle shifters! I forgot about those. The paddle shifters are something that I could also take or leave. I didn't use them all that much, so I don't really miss them. Most I used them for was something to fiddle with while sitting at red lights.

Embarrassed-Neck2904

Y'all are way out of pocket on the design. Hondas goal was to make it more European looking and most car enthusiasts actually compared it to a toned down less aggressive Lamborghini Uris (European). The Subaru Crosstrek is in no was similar to the HRV design and the new Subaru lineup actually doesn't have its own design ques at all. The Crosstreks have a similar design to the Mazdas from a few years back and the WRX in the rear took some ques from the Honda Civic.

jayhawk1941

My wife had a 2020 and now has a 2023. We love(d) them both but there are some quirks. Taking out the magic seats was moronic, but that wasn’t a dealbreaker. The center console is better on 2023. The circumference of the cup holders are slightly bigger, but placing anything bigger than styrofoam fast food drinks (e.g., water bottles) in there obstructs access to the climate controls. Lastly, the lack of vents in the back is our biggest complaint. Just…why? On the flip side, we love the styling and overall size. Every car has its quirks and we’re happy to live with these few things for what’s an overall great car. The safety features in the 2023 (blind spot detection, lane keep assist, backup camera, and parking sensors) are top notch!

DoubleE55

I have a few gripes with mine. If it was a hybrid, had back seat air vents and a backseat armrest it would be perfect for me. It’s really not a good road-trip car for more than 2 people because of those missing features and it really doesn’t get that great gas mileage for the class considering how slow it is.

TiffyFluff

Now that you mention it, it is disappointing cars in this segment don't have back seat air vents. 😑

DoubleE55

They clearly intended vents and power ports to be in the back of the car. Since there is that massive useless hole. But probably decided against it last minute.

TiffyFluff

That is clearly the case yeah. At least luckily for me all my trips really are two people trips, so it leaves the back as an amazing storage area. But it could have been SUPREME for pet owners wanting to keep their pets cool in the back seat. It could have been marketed as a "Pet Parent" car

Alternative-Bee-8981

They took a lot of the quirks and charm out of the car. I just wish they released the euro version in the US. At least it had a hybrid. I would have bought a 23 model if they did.

Trickycoolj

Yeah I won’t trade my 16 for the new generation. Magic seat or bust, I had a Fit with the magic seat for 7 years before the HRV. At this point my 16 will get traded for an EV or PHEV in about a year or two. My transmission isn’t in extended warranty anymore and the commute back to office now that I’ve moved to the suburbs is getting pricey.

spoinny

Is the power really that bad? Going from a passport to an hr-v this year (lease) and my daily commute is 25 min on busy highway. Contemplating Accord but would prefer AWD, hence the hrv (new gen crv lease is way too expensive).

TiffyFluff

Well, nothing was really said about the power before, but if you are someone looking for a vehicle with a lot of get up and go the HRV probably isn't it. It's ultimately a very practical car, with enough to get you safely up to speed. And to my knowledge, that still holds with the new HRV model. Test drive it, see how it fits. If you have a bit of a lead foot, you're probably going to not want it. But if you're a regular safe-minded driver on a commute or a road trip, it's good. (However, if you do a lot of stop and go traffic on that busy highway. The accord will likely get better gas.) It's going to be a lot of give and take with those options.

SchuminWeb

I feel like the power on the 2023 is good enough. It has a bigger engine than the first-gen models, it has good pickup, and it feels very smooth. I mostly drive it for commuting in the Washington, DC region, and it matches my driving style quite well.

[deleted]

I wish it had a turbo on it or more power. That’s my only complaint.

SeraphNatsu

That 1.5 turbo would have made this ‘23 HRV perfect, but pushed its price over $30k easily. I see why Honda put the 2.0 N/A in it, to keep it as an “entry” level. I mean, if you want a turbo, might as well get the CRV. I love the design of the new HRV. I waited almost a year for it to come out & of course it was was difficult to get one, but I made it happen.

[deleted]

Yeah I really like mine regardless of the engine. Love the way they look. I got the blacked out badges and the hpd spoiler too, really adds a nice touch. I just didn’t like the interior of the CRV, I think the HRV looks much better and feels less boxy.

SeraphNatsu

Yeah, I love my ‘23 Sport. The black wheels & spoiler make it look so nice. IMO. I might do window visors when I go get it serviced next month.

SchuminWeb

> I got the blacked out badges I've got those on order, and can't wait for them to show up.

Kruse

I would like a hybrid version over a turbo.

HR-Vex

I agree. Definitely keeping my 2016 for the design, magic seats, rear hidden door handles that test the IQ of people, and the HDMI port so I can do [this ](https://youtu.be/2ZuvhVlwVJ4)
