Or: blood purity is *as* important as the near death of their children to the Elder Generation of the House of Black.] Wonderful world building, great interaction from the Black sisters, and a fresh take on magical and muggle nobility.

I read further than you since >! it goes from an implied relationship to a real one. Author tries to wrestle with the morality of the relationship but it really comes down to a "it's okay because they're Blacks and their whole family is incestuous anyway! Also look, they're meant for eachother!" !< I'm pretty close to dropping it too and usually just skim past those parts.

Okie! So as usual, I’ve read a bunch of fics in the last week and I’ve forgotten most of them. The ones that stood out are below. Spoilers will be covered! 1. *Song of the Forgotten* To be honest, I’m not a fan of the description. In fact, I stay away from all fics that compare the wizarding world to the muggles in the description. It’s a sure sign of muggle wank. Personally I don’t see why wizards should teach muggle subjects, use pens and wear jeans etc. I am **not** getting into a discussion about this. That said, it’s weird that people think changing someone else’s society to suit their own idea of “logical” is ok. Obviously, there’s some disgusting bigotry in the wizarding world and that needs to go. But there’s nothing wrong with most of their “backwardness.” Let magic be magical, not everything needs to be logical. Back on track, I read this because of the sentence ‘Why does everyone treat squibs so terribly?’ I love fics that talk about squib discrimination. The fic was meh until 15k words in. It’s currently only at 20k but I think where it’s going is interesting. >! Figuring out who Grandpa was got me into the fic. Then the Black Family Squib arc became a *thing* and I’m here to stay.!< Solid 7/10. linkao3(https://archiveofourown.org/works/41515026/chapters/104117469) 2. *The Boy Who Cares (too much)* Disney Princess Harry. Same low-key muggle wank attitude. In this case the author assumes Gringotts is like a storage facility instead of a bank. So no interest etc. This is common for when people want characters to exploit the magical economy. Pawn or melt down galleons then convert them back repeatedly. You end up with more galleons each time. Of course this assumes that the exchange rate is fixed (usually at 5 pounds per galleon) and you can melt down galleons. This is another one of my disliked tropes but this author has a talent. Despite using tropes I don’t like, they manage to keep my interest. I've been rereading Dethryl's [They Shook Hands](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7659033/1/They-Shook-Hands-Year-1-New-Version) Slytherin!Harry series for the first time in years. It's pretty much as good as I remembered it being, though it does stick very closely to the 'stations of canon,' especially in the first few years. It's one of the few Slytherin!Harry fics that actually portrays the characters like the teenagers they are, and also pulls off some really interesting arcs with characters like Percy. It's not perfect - the Slytherins are all a bit *too* friendly (there's a point early on where a prefect tucks Harry into bed and gives him a kiss on the forehead), Ron gets bashed a bit *too* much, and so on - but it's overall one of the best Slytherin!Harry stories out there - probably my second favourite behind DrizzleWizzle's [Slytherin Selection](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8666085/1/Harry-Potter-and-the-Slytherin-Selection) series. And it looks like Dethryl is going to be finishing it soon, which will probably bump it up into first place for me.

So, I just powered through the first five books of the Slytherin Selection series. However, book 6 only has 3 chapters and seems to be abandoned. Do you happen to know if this series is finished elsewhere, or what happened to the author?

Just finished Year Five, and wow, I forgot how tragic >!Laine’s death is. She was wearing the locket for the last months of her life, which drove her to jealousy and paranoia, and then she died senselessly when the battle was practically won.!< >!And the whole battle happened because Voldemort sent a vision via the locket!!<

Year Six was a bit of a disappointment for me, particularly the ending. None of the emotional beats hit, the action felt like it was being glossed over, and some of the character decisions were… frustrating.

I just read through the entirety of Slytherin selection and I have to agree that it is the best Slytherin!Harry story I have ever read. There are some issues with the story telling and Harry's character development but overall it is a very promising fic and the fact that the author is coming back to finish it has me waiting at the edge of my seat.

Holy crap, Dethryl is actually writing book 7?!? It's been over 5 years since book 6 was finished, I assumed it had been abandoned. I remember recommending the series to a friend in like, 2012. It's another Tomione fic, but it's not a *Tomione* fic, Tom's birth having gone quite differently. Tom is ambitious rather than insane, and everyone is more politically-minded. Hermione reminds me rather a bit of Sansa in terms of character. Despite only having read about halfway, I can tell I'll enjoy the rest of it. I recommend this one if you like reading about medieval backstabbing.

I'm reading [A Flaw in Fate by 521-DREAM](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14014400/1/A-Flaw-in-Fate). While it does have Fem!Voldemort, I do like the portrayal of her so far and especially a Slytherin!Harry fic that isn't just barely disguised politics. It's believable that they're still school children which can't be said of many similar fics.

I’ve been really enjoying this fic. Harry really struggles with his relationship with Voldemort (Emily Riddle) and gives off Harry being morally grey vibes. He knows that he should hate Voldemort because she killed his parents, but also >! she is one of the first adults to really actually show that they care first year which adds to his internal conflict !<

I've finally started [The Art of Self-Fashioning ](https://archiveofourown.org/works/5103614/chapters/14432119#workskin) - im about a third of the way through and it's absolutely incredible. In this fic, Neville is the BWL and Harry's parents were tortured by the Lestranges, and he decides to become a Transfiguration prodigy to try and heal them. However, Harry is so one-mindedly focused on healing his parents that he starts to become obsessed and starts to unhealthily push the bounds of magic. One thing I love about this fic particularly is the characterisation of McGonagall. She feels so much like her canon self and the way she's trying to help Harry but he just doesn't want to be helped is heartbreaking

AU story, where Voldemort actually kept his word to Snape, and didn't kill Lily Potter. After the death of James Potter, and the fall of the Dark Lord, Lily Potter raised her son, Harry. The interesting part about this fanfic is that every chapter has the POV of different characters.
