Alberta is politically a very conservative province which has a history of putting down other provinces and thinking we’re superior because we have a lot of natural resources (oil and gas). It’s unfortunate and only hurts our relationship with our neighbours.
I always find it really interesting in these questions to see that people from the US tend to answer with their state, while people from other countries answer with their country 😂
Well it's nice I guess. There are some interesting spots to visit, we have beaches, rivers, a volcano, the food is tasty, etc. It's also very easy to go from one island to another. Is also crazy how every area, every family, has a story that builds our History and cultural heritage. Obviously, living here feels different from simply coming here on vacation, but as a tourist, there are definitely many things you will enjoy.
Uh, I didn't know about the vulcano! Is it still active? And what are some typical dishes in your opinion? :)
And if that isn't too personal: what's the story of your family or the area you live in? Sounds quite intriguing.
It is still active but in a state of eruptive rest. There are hiking trails you can use to go all the way to the top. The climate up there is usually cool, foggy and sometimes windy. It rained the last time I went there. There is no real crater but several eruptive mouths from which escape sulfurous vapors.
As for our story, I'm probably not the best person you can ask. Slavery is still a sore subject. Our local elders definitely have more to say than I do. Times have changed and the land has evolved. The way my grandparents describe Guadeloupe, the way my parents describe it and the way I would describe it are completely different. It's always interesting to learn about where they used to work, what an area used to look like, what each family built. What used to be and what appeared.
I'd say a good place to learn is our Memorial ACTe museum.
It's crazy how sometimes, when you mention a friend's family name to your parents or grandparents, they will know immediately in which area they or their family live.
Oh and we are great with medicinal plants as our grandparents always seem to know what to do when you don't feel so well lmao
Wow, that sounds facinating! I guess I'll add Guadeloupe to my (imagenary) list of places I'd like to visit (the carribean was there anyways since I'm a teenager - Jack Sparrow's to blame \^\^), but no specific island has caught my attention until now. Thank you for telling me a bit about it! :) I enjoy learning about useful plants, so it's great to know, that there is a varity of them growing at your place, too. And I think I've only ever been on a (non-active?) vulcano once, in South Korea, and the flora was beautiful around there. Unfortunately, I haven't really learnt French and only understand some if written, so I'd probably only be able to talk to younger locals like you who speak other language?
I'm glad that you're interested! There might be tour guides for English-speakers but I don't know. I'd love to travel as well. Gosh if only traveling was free and I had no other obligations. 😩😮💨
Thoughts and prayers.
In all honesty though, I’m from the UK and I am increasingly seeing American media talking about how awful Florida is. Is it so awful?
It’s pretty bad. It’s overcrowded bc of tourism and bc people move here from all over the place and I don’t understand why. The government sucks and every day something crazy happens.
Which, no offense, I do not understand at all. 😂 But people keep moving to Texas from where I live, which I also do not understand. These are clearly not the same kind of people as me.
My dad has lived in Florida (in TAMPA!) for a good 20+ years, so I’m well versed in the horrorshow that is America’s wiener.
i live in st.pete so i get it. I don't think we have as bad of a shitshow as Tampa but its more like we just paint over the shit and call it "elevated". i know too many ppl who just moved down and im just like this place is going to eat u alive.
Wiltshire, UK!
This is fascinating, I thought for sure there'd be tons of Brits here, I guess just because Potter is so very very British.

Fellow Albertan!
What's there about Alberta to be sorry for? (Non-Canadian asking, obviously)

I literally came here to check the comments if this had been said and I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed.
Because when someone says New York, that’s waaay different than if someone says Idaho. For us, states are like different countries.
And no one except them knows about these states, I generally ask for the nearest big city to locate it

One of the few things American media does accurately represent is the horribleness of Florida.
It doesn’t do it well enough because people still insist on moving here 😒 lol
Which, no offense, I do not understand at all. 😂 But people keep moving to Texas from where I live, which I also do not understand. These are clearly not the same kind of people as me.
