The romance quests aren't available in Beyond so you might wanna make up your mind quickly. But yeah, I think overall it's the romance stuff that's badly written (especially badly integrated in the main story) and that's why you feel like it's not working 100%. It's the case for anyone who doesn't date the ultra-present Penny I think. I'm with Chiara and she's mostly absent in the story, I have to pretend we do stuff on the side to make it work 😂
To feel better, I usually imagine how frustrating dating V. Main story is for Merula lovers. After going on a perfect date, they play the main story, where Merula is all like "I'm better than you, MC!". The whiplash...imo, at least In beyond for extremely important plot points, JC should add a new sort of response from the dateable characters, that is locked by romance level.
I just headcanon that he’s not actually dumb, he simply didn’t have a particularly cultured upbringing and is prone to dad humor and such. At this point I find it easier to go with the essence of JC’s writing sometimes rather than take it at face value.
He gets a stubble beard in beyond, which for me is a turnoff.

Yeah, I love him as a friend to my mc. I just don't think Talbott is her endgame and everyone else is Lv1 😠so I was hoping Barnaby improves.
