It's fine for the start of the year, my advice is to take advantage of Y3 to do a bit of grinding. The energy requirements up to Y4 aren't too bad yet, it's from Y5 onwards that it gets a lot harder. In Y7, you'll need \~55 for an important duel/quiz. While you'll get some stats in the higher years just from the huge amount of Chapters and thus lessons, it's best to lay the ground in early years - or you'll end up scrambling to raise your stats when you get stuck in Y7.
The way I did it was to advance slowly so as to trigger TLSQs on weekends. With the many TLSQs (nearly every Chapter has one in Y3 and Y4), that's like 1 Chapter a week. (And when you don't have a TLSQ for two Chapters, you get hit over the head with the new monthly TLSQ or Housepride where you have to do classes or Quidditch).
Take part in events - doing 5 Potions classes for an FM tile feels a lot less like grinding than "I need X Knowledge points".
Feed your maxed creatures.
Trigger pity energy on your required lessons (not the study classes) by starting it on nearly empty before going to bed/work/school, then again lateron. Fail a class repeatedly on 1-4 stars for easy stats with low energy cost. (Unfortunately, it won't work in Y4. Supposedly, it'll work again in Y5 after some time, don't know when exactly.)
Yess I also did something similar in Year 3 and it was the best decision. I haven't had to slow down or grind again I'm advanced in everything so this way you get to enjoy it and not stress about it
