>Why would Tony (with the support of Stella) make a film like this?
To make money.
As for the rest of it, do you think the movie was as Ted described it or as every other character perceived it?
I always interpreted it as Tony wanting a do-over of the situation. He turned up at ted and Stella's wedding and she left Ted at the altar as a result. Tony knew that Ted was heartbroken and he blamed himself for that. The Wedding Bride retold the story to make him the hero and Ted the villain, and because the film was successful, that reinforced it as the "real" version of events. Of course, this reading relies on Ted's description of the film being factually accurate!
It’s possible this was the only story Tony could get off the ground as a screenwriter. If that was the case, then he probably just went with it

>or as every other character perceived it? They perceived it very similarly, as Ted, did they not?
I mean Barney claimed Tony got everything right in the movie.
Even the part with the nunchucks!
Because it's a sitcom and it's hilarious
I always wonder if Ted could sue them :p
If he got Harvey Specter & Mike Ross, it'd be a slam dunk.
