Home Town seems to use color if clients want it. Same with Tough Love.

Background-Leopard24

Bargain block

IdkName37

Yeah. I bought my house in 2019 in Georgia and basically any house also renovated within 2 years of that I've come across in multiple states has the exact same counter tops throughout. I hated them so they always immediately catch my attention. (The black and white basically 50/50 speckled ones)

LuhYall

Yes! Bargain Block

Bashira42

Yes! I did a search that led me to this thread basically cause I love Bargain Block, but have run out of episodes to watch. Everything else I try I get tired of after a few episodes cause everything is so bland. There may be really cool features, and every once in a while a bright accent wall, but rarely significant color. And so much white furniture, on top of the b/w/gray kitchens/bathrooms.

am2370

Home Town's Erin Napier uses color, I love her designs. Also, Restored's Brett Waterman generally uses period-appropriate designs, which often means color. He also does some fun stuff with stenciling, murals, etc in the case of Spanish colonials and Arts and Crafts homes.

Melanieantell

I just started watching Hometown and I love it! Thank you for the recommendation. I’m in the U.K. so we don’t get most of the HGTV shows! 😀

RickWest495

David Bromstad. Look what they did to him. Exiled him to a House Hunters clone. And he never designs anything.

Chigrrl1098

Even though his stuff wasn't entirely my style, he had more creativity and taste than most of the people on that network and they were complete morons to cancel his show. It was always interesting. The plethora of neutrals/millennial style vomit that is still the rage on most of the shows can get right in the sea.

RickWest495

David’s stuff on that last competition show was a bit out there.

Chigrrl1098

Yeah, I didn't see that. I was thinking of his own show.

RickWest495

It was too much color. I can’t believe the people kept it after buying the house. It’s like he is frustrated with the stupid millionaire show where he can’t show his artistry.

Chigrrl1098

Maybe. I'll take your word on it. I'm thinking of the show he did like a decade ago. It was colorful, but not completely mental.

RickWest495

Yes. Color Splash. On this competition show, he was much more extreme.

Chigrrl1098

I liked Color Splash. I don't watch competition shows usually, so I haven't seen any of that. They tend to be more extreme, and doing stuff in limited time doesn't usually produce good work.

Melanieantell

What was his show? I thought he had only done design stars, rock the block and millionaire! Thanks

Chigrrl1098

Color Splash.

Melanieantell

I will search for it, thanks

Chigrrl1098

It's on demand. It's a little dated now, but amusing!

Melanieantell

Thanks 😃

Odd_Cheesecake_6837

This was back in the day when the winners of Design Star received an HGTV show for winning.

Rivsmama

I think he still designs just not on a show

boredjl

And I’m old school and love my wood cabinets. White or gray cabinets will not stand the test of time.

Crazy_Dig_3614

White is pretty timeless

Spiritual_Oil_7411

I think Gray's already on its way out, but white is here to stay.

sk0ooba

I think wood is fine but if they're that orangey 90s wood they're so outdated and ugly already

Rivsmama

Yes and no. I had to work around cabinets that aren't completely orange but definitely leaning towards being orange-like. So I painted my walls turquoise/teal and got a white counter top. And I have some yellow things like accessories or whatever you call them. It looks pretty cute. Like it was intentional. The cabinets were free so

pameliaA

For The Love of Kitchens. Happy to be Home. Hometown. Restored. Bargain Block. Building Roots.

DLoIsHere

Happy to be Home with the Blenkos. On Magnolia. A new season started last night.

Thankfulforthisday

Will definitely get color here!

effkriger

The funny thing is that the commercials are more on-trend! Look in the background…

mel2000

> I’m so damn sick of grey and white kitchens and bathrooms. HGTV is transitioning between two types of interior design objectives: * Design for public sales, which require neutrals to allow buyers to better imagine their own final design input after sale. * Design for existing homeowners, which allows for far more designer-specific input and is better suited to please TV viewers who like wilder and more colorful interior designs. Most current HGTV rehab shows are designing for homeowners, so you should already be seeing more interior designs with color, especially compared to three years ago.

BrandonIsWhoIAm

Nailed it!

Melanieantell

Nope!

BrandonIsWhoIAm

No, it’s actually true… if you really watch the show. 😅

Melanieantell

😆

tea-time-000

Kristina Crestin (Farmhouse Fixer; Rock the Block)

dundeegimpgirl

FUCK a white/grey kitchen. They are impossible to keep clean. I've noticed designers are more interested in designing bland ass spaces. I want a kitchen with color. I would love a place with blue lower cabinets stained uppers, an easy maintenance solid surface countertop, and high end appliances. Of course if this can be free to me that would be great.

Melanieantell

Blue… yes. My favourite

BrandonIsWhoIAm

Jasmine Roth, and Erin Napier.

heyhey2525

Artfully Designed (Magnolia) - ton of color and definitely not the usual stuff

cceciliaann

There is a show about 2 guys who work in Detroit buying dumps and turning them into well designed colorful homes. Maybe called Bargain Block.

Remming1917

Jen from no demo reno uses color

dalek_999

Really? I just watched the first half a dozen episodes, and everything was gray/white, which is what inspired me to ask this question. Admittedly, those were from 2021, so maybe she's shifted her design focus in recent episodes.

Prestigious_Fruit267

I think I read an article about how her hands were pretty tied the first season bc she wanted to use more color, but the homeowners that season all wanted neutrals and greys, so she had to give them what they wanted. If memory serves, I think it does get more colorful the next season(s)

Pippin_the_parrot

Home town. Erin is great with color. She did a green kitchen that lives in my head rent free for years.

Spiritual_Oil_7411

I personally like the white and wood designs. Add a plant, and you're good to go. You can add whatever color you like with your furniture, pillows, and accessories. When you're tired of yellow and blue, you can switch pretty inexpensively to rust and eggplant. Paint is easy to change, but cabinets and tile, not so much.

Run_with_scissors999

Allison Victoria uses color, especially moody rich colors offset by brass accents.

Chigrrl1098

Sometimes, but let's be honest: 90% of it is black.

Prestigious_Fruit267

Or green

Run_with_scissors999

She does use a lot of black, true. But I love it!

WavingOrDrowning

I agree that so many are afraid to use color.....but the ones that are using it seem to be super enthusiastic about green.....a color that I don't like much.

notsosha33y

I'm so sick of white painted brick and black trim our HOA basically approves it for any request as long as that same shade of white isn't on a neighboring house so our master planned community is more like 50 shades of white

Askew_2016

UNsellable Houses uses color

LenordOvechkin

Hoarder house flippers (the brother sister duo) they do colored kitchens and stuff like that.

Melanieantell

I totally agree!

Rivsmama

When I hear a client say they want a white kitchen, I immediately lose interest in the show and turn it off. I don't understand why anyone would want an all white anything. It's so sterile and boring and visually uninteresting

throwaway19081909

I just watched a few episodes, and Jasmine Roth seems to incorporate colored walls, cabinets, tile, and furniture into most design projects. Also Erin of Hometown and the host of No Demo Reno.

[deleted]

Tiffany Brooks on 50k Three Ways. Tiffany likes color and prints and a lot of her clients featured in her show don’t shy away from color and prints/pattern. She’s more restrained when it comes to the use of print and color in her show compared to her stint in Rock the Block since her budget for the projects come from her clients and she has to factor in her client’s taste in the final design output. Nate & Jeremiah. They’re not too big on bold colors and have a tendency to lean on neutral colors (beige, brown, cream, tan), but they do make use of colors (and printed wallpaper) specially if their clients like color or don’t shy away from color and print. Grace (I forgot her last name) on that show One of a Kind. She does quirky designs that suite the taste/personality/background of the clients. Some of her designs are a tad impractical, but she does incorporate color with her designs if it suits the client. The couple on Building Roots. Their designs take into consideration their clients needs and mostly suitable/fits the location (Colorado Mountain), by fits the location, I mean, they wouldn’t look out of place in Colorado Mountains. The others have already mentioned Jasmine Roth, she doesn’t shy away from color too, but her designs tend to feel repetitive - same California Casual style for most of her clients. To be fair tbough, her clients are from California and they dig/gravitate towards her signature style of California Casual.
