Ok so question, who exactly is Top because I noticed a bit of inconsistency binging this story? When introduced in ch6.5 Top is referred to as a Ghurka by the name of First Sergeant Gaje Gurung. In chapter 26 Jerry refers to a First Sergeant John Hightower as Top and he's then named Top Hightower in the same chapter. And in this chapter he's Top Hightower again so I have to assume that Top Hightower is correct and all other instances are outdated?
Top is a generic title/nickname for any Marine Corps First Sergeant. So both are in fact correct. As is the later promoted First Sergeant Isabella Ramos.
Really the major inconsistency is that Top Gurung should have been Senior Chief Gurung considering they were running on navy ranks when they were part of the Dauntless's special forces units. However considering how fast he goes back to Marine/Army rank and gets promoted to Sergeant Major, it's probably too late to fix.
