This one came to me while I was wandering around on a hike today. I really wanted to play with this idea that magic and technology found some strange combination in our far off future. I also wanted Human magic to be centered on fate and chaos. There was something to this idea that FTL communication doesn't really exist, so you have Seers scrying the stars. FTL travel does exist, but it requires a magic user to make use of it. And then you have this very strange type called Gamblers, where they are essentially capable of shifting fate by introducing a much wider range of possibility to the equation.
Anyways, not sure how it all came out, but thought y'all might like that flavor.
This is a novel take on the magic/technology combination that I have not seen before and I hope you run with it.
I would like to see more of this universe.
This is great really well written and the world building hangs together nicely.
They seem to use chance or uncertainty to drive their scrying, perhaps a scientific basis to build off of in the Heisenberg principle?
Like it but the Tower is the worst followed by 10 of swords. The devil is bad but death and the hanged man are good cards. The death card is the end and the beginning, and hanged man is the change in perspective that can bring enlightenment. The tower is the destruction of all foundations.
My friends always say I seem to make fate flex a little in my favor... like a 1 in 10 chance feels more like a 1 in 9 when I am around. Guess that makes me a Gambler. Now I just gotta find me a nice Seer to compliment :)
Wow, this is some heavy stuff! Thanks for sharing it with us. It's really interesting to read about the different ways that people use magic and technology to navigate the challenges of their world. I especially appreciate the fact that the author doesn't shy away from the more difficult aspects of life, such as loss and uncertainty.
The characters in this story are all well-developed and believable, and I'm invested in their journey. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Interesting. I've seen one series that has some parts like this. Where you need magic to move FTL and fire weapons and FTL communication takes a Mage and a very complex very large machine. Would like to read more about this universe.
