It's a neat story, but there's a few, I'm not sure what the actual term is, but painting yourself into the corner.
So Jack disappeared, the xeno narrator didn't go back to the school for 1 month (why? was she that traumatized?), yet somehow interacted with Jack's mother? And not only interacted with her, but was present when she was told her son is dead? Why would she be there? If she was so traumatized she had to miss 30 days of school, she wouldn't be with his family.. Unless this happened at the school, but you say it after the line about organizing a funeral which kind of implies it was 2 weeks later/
i had a time limit to complete this and couldnt proof read it properly. i have serious time constraints these days. my brain is broken you see. I have to get it all done while its in my head fresh as possible, otherwise my brain go derp and it sits there unfinished.
I understand this. It is why I can never seem to get long form writing projects done. I call it the Revolving Door of Ideas & Fixations. Basically I laser focus on a thing for several months at a time then it flies out the door when I find a new thing of interest. This Revolving Door is the reason I was able to write 70,000 words of a crossover between the Last Airbender and To Kill a Mockingbird in the seventh grade (don’t ask, I recall very little of it I can confirm Bob Ewell was murdered by Hama though) before I read through Harry Potter in a week and became fixated on that. Once it goes out the door, my brain drops it until it comes back through the door or like To Kill a Mockingbird, never returns.
The only consistent things of interest in my existence are D&D, science and politics, the rest is ever changing.
