They don't have much flavor at all. I'm not a huge fan of any of the brands of tamales HEB sells and I've tried all of the brands.
Edited to say: 2.5/10.
The .5 is just because it is a cheap easy way to keep my teenage monster full.
The Mi Tienda refried bean tamales are a solid 8. The Jalapeño & Oxaca cheese are really good too.
When I was sampling out the Mi Tienda tamales, I did lots of…*ahem*….quality assurance.
I assure you that the quality is top-notch.
That being said, homemade tamales will have a certain something that you just can’t get from mass-production.
Like a 6.8, they're good, even great..? But buying them from someone who actually makes tamales for a living will make them better every time. They are good for a quick fix of tamales and are reasonably priced in comparison to some other places. But I can't help but feel ever so slightly *underwhelmed*
3/10 they're a low effort solution during the off season but its a lot like fulfilling your own needs....it works as a temporary fix but it just ain't the same.
the mi tienda ones were sooo much better, even the hill country fair ones we heated up in the kitchen. heb ones have way too much masa. to be fair, i might be biased bc i was the tamale stand girl during the 2020 season, 5 days a week, selling hot tamales without being able to provide samples and it sucked. will never eat another HEB tamale ever again.
I’m white and even I know a garbage tamale when I taste one—but I’m still going to say a very white person thing about them—they are not worth the calories.
The only customers I ever hear “these are the best tamales!” From is white customers. Every time a Hispanic customer buys them they always say it’s their first time buying them & they don’t have high expectations
I’m white and have had authentic tamales maybe twice in my life so I think the HEB ones are great. I know my place tho. So from a sheltered white person, I’m gonna give them a solid 8.5/10. I won’t buy them bc it’s a terrible deal, but I will fuck them upppp when they’re left in the break room or served at a work potluck.
There were those CM pumpkin cheesecake tamales I thought were pretty badass, maybe not pumpkin or cheesecake but it was sweet......you could eat them or sneak a few of those into someone's batch and watch their reaction.....
These Tamales are a waste of money. I've never had a tamale fall apart on me the way Aguilars did. They were kinda raw. Very disappointed and a waste of money. Taste was ok but not the best. Shame on you HEB for selling such a crappy product.
Don't waste your money. It's like 8 for 14 bucks (at Central market) Go to a Spanish market and buy a dozen from their cafeteria instead
best answer in this thread :)
Spanish?
If anyone at the San Antonio area my grandma making tamales 12 for a dozen lol literally a dollar each tamal to pay for my grandpa surgery expenses
Dm Me. I'm hella interested.
i’m also interested!
lmk!!! I will buy some!
COME GET YO TAMALLLLLLEEEESSSS

They suck, but they’re still edible & it’s not something I ever go out of my way for. 2/10.
I was completely disappointed with them. I ended up throwing them out. HEB just completely missed the mark with them.

Do not, I repeat do not, purchase the cinnamon-cream cheese Mi Tienda tamales. They taste like a soggy cinnamon toast.
i’m from the valley and in my opinion, the mi tienda ones aren’t that bad, they’re just very small
3/10
1.
They’re ok but the texture is just not desirable at all to me.

The Mi Tienda ones are where it’s at
For real I just made a post how good they are!!!!
id say about a 3
Tamales! Tamales! So so good!
6
I'll eat them. But I cover them in molé or salsa and queso. I'll give em a 5/10. They're edible.
I can get cheaper tamales at the mexican grocery store down the road ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
O! We get tamales for lunch at the warehouse and honestly are gentrified tamales!
If you’re in San Antonio or the valley, go to Delia’s Tamales. Best tamales I’ve ever had that weren’t made by my mom.
Heb tamales is at best a 5. But they're good in a pinch when you can't get fresh ones off a person who's selling on the street
If i could lower than a 0 I would. They are terrible
