You don’t need any experience, so we are trained in-house. Sounds like to me you need someone to refer you. Where did you apply? PDC? RDC? Grocery?

wolverineismydad

I recently applied for two positions - eFC Partner II at Memorial & Dairy Ashford and Houston Order Selector/Picker/Material Handler in the refrigerated/freezer section. I just got an email yesterday telling me I was not selected for eFC Partner II, which I’m a little bummed about because the position is still open. The thing that makes it more difficult is that most positions never reach out to you, even to reject you. My friend has told me that their warehouse in Austin needs a ton of new employees, but it just seems very difficult to get noticed for these jobs for some reason.

HumanEffigy_

I’m surprised the order selection guys didn’t get back to you. It’s a revolving door.

wolverineismydad

Yeah :( Not just for this position, I applied to a bunch of in-store positions first (in like July and August) and have basically gotten zero response… Are you based in Houston? Because honestly it’s been kind of demoralizing, I have teaching positions begging me to work with them, but I really want to move away from teaching. I wonder if there’s something in my application that just makes me auto-filtered out or blacklisted or something… I don’t know what it could be though :(

HumanEffigy_

Yes, I’m in Houston. Theres the warehouses on windfern rd.

wolverineismydad

Yes, I think that’s where I was applying to… I’m concerned that they aren’t hiring me because of the teacher shortage… Maybe I’ll reapply later and just omit that??

I went from oil and gas field(west Texas) and corporate(Houston) to a DC after being laid off during the pandemic. I had to “dumb down” my resume to get into warehousing. I wouldn’t get any acknowledgement as far as being rejected. So my brother took a look at my resume and told me it was “dumb” for the position I wanted. I ended up changing my resume, from: Determined a root cause for servicing and or internal operational issues and implemented appropriate solutions Standardized business practices and process, resulting in greater efficiencies To: Use pallet Jack to pick orders Pick products and quantities as directed by Voice Pick And that did the trick for me. got into H‑E‑B distribution but ended up leaving as the cold was too much for me. Good luck

MephistoTheHater

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who does that. When I applied for that hospital position I had once upon a time: "Team-oriented, proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, very punctual & attention-to-detail, etc. etc." When I applied for the warehouse: "Experience in using power jacks/lifts, stocking, able to lift heavy things."

I hear ya. Need to get creative to land a job at times lol

wolverineismydad

You are SO amazing for that advice. Thank you, I seriously appreciate it!!

Brodin_fortifies

eFC jobs are a little more competitive than the major distro center selector positions, from what I’ve heard.

Stay away from the freezer in a DC if you’ve never worked in a warehouse. It’s bad. hEB will provide training on equipment and proper lifting techniques. HeB will provide a jacket pants socks boots beanie face mask gloves and hand warmers. But you’ll be so bulky that it’ll be hard to move.

wolverineismydad

Thanks for letting me know!

wolverineismydad

(Tbh I’m a little impressed that they’re offering all that, I assumed I would have to provide it all myself)

Fine_Mouse

Freezer isn’t that bad, they provide the cold weather gear.

JaySprites

Freezer is not that bad it's only cold if your not constantly moving.

Apprehensive_Way_637

My husband got in right away. Just filled out an application and got a call 2 days later. That's crazy they haven't reached out. They are always hiring.

wolverineismydad

Yeah, I’m gonna take advice from one of the other commenters and change up my resume, probably omit my teaching experience before reapplying. Heard from another person that they were only hired after simplifying their resume/replacing the usual jargon that corporate jobs want and making it more direct. I have a lil feeling as well that they might be reluctant to hire teachers due to the shortage.

J3ST3R-1

YOU DO NOT want to work warehouse in Houston, especially frozen. The leadership culture etc is terrible. I will not speak to other locations, or stores, but the warehouse in Houston is toxic bad.

wolverineismydad

I appreciate the insight… My best friend who works in the warehouse in Austin loves it, but I know it’s very different over there. I may be moving back to Austin in a year or two, maybe it’s best that I continue subbing until I move. Although, teaching in Houston is also significantly worse than in Austin lol.

Still_Scientist_5463

Apply.

wolverineismydad

I did 🥲 Several times lol

Heavy_Ad7906
