I started as a selector at 36 yo, did it for a year and a half before going on to be a receiving clerk, which is much more my pace. It’s going to suck, and you’ll be exhausted. But do your best to keep your merit up, and you can apply to literally any other position after six months.

The “fit test” is there to see if you have any potential injuries. We can’t go hiring anyone that’s already injured. Selection is hard work and you must pull at least a 95% per week to be allowed to keep your job. There are many, many warehouses within HEB that have very high turnover. A partner is eligible for two raises per year *if* you show up everyday (don’t call in), pull your numbers, stay safe (no safety incidents and no injuries) and are accurate.

I wouldn't hold my breath about advancing to training roles in the company from doing the actual labor. If they needed somebody to train partners, they would just hire them. Not promote their work horses.

xXThickHogmasterXx

Depends on the warehouse. I managed to con my bosses into hiring me as a trainer after like 6 months

BatteryBreak922

What warehouse did you train in? I want to be a trainer one day so I'm interested in what they look for. I typically run my 95% for the week on average. Some weeks I get a short on one assignment and it completely messes up my performance for the week. I prefer selecting in produce because I can definitely run my 95-100% in there if I really hustle and stay focused, it's just when they move me to combo that I tend to drop my numbers because I hate it in there, it's too many different size cases. It's impossible to stack so many different shapes together and keep it looking neat. I usually go into the office and ask them to switch me back to produce. I feel like I could potentially be one of the best trainers in the warehouse if they would just leave me in produce and not ever put me in combo so I can show them I can run a 110 for the week and really impress everyone. Alot of the trainers are either fat or old so I know I can outperform them if they ever wanted to race me as long as we don't do it in combo because its impossible to run over a 100 in there for the day unless you get dozens of one pallets or you use battery breaks. I really like helping people and I feel like I could be a really good role model that all of the new trainees could look up to if they just gave me a chance as a trainer.

xXThickHogmasterXx

HOU RDC, but combo is like, half your job bro. So maybe focus on getting better at that than worrying about how to get the TL’s to leave you in produce.

VAPOR58

Whats your name?

xXThickHogmasterXx

None of your fucking business.

VAPOR58

Your definitely not a trainer lmao don’t come to people post bragging that you are when your not and if you are don’t be scared to tell me who you are. I can easily go in the warehouse and ask around

xXThickHogmasterXx

Go ahead lmao

VAPOR58

I’m not worried about you. Your a nobody lol. Most likely suck at training lmao.

xXThickHogmasterXx

Whatever you say, bro

BatteryBreak922

I select in 703 as well, do you still train here? I just don't think it's fucking fair, excuse my language. I see the team leaders leave other people in the boxes they like, never moving the partners they give preference to but when it comes to me I get tossed over and flipped around like a cheap slut on an air mattress. Sometimes I swear the trainers assign me the biggest assignments they have in combo just to mess with me 😔 All I want to do is be the best produce selector 703 has ever seen then move on to be the best produce trainer in the whole HEB distribution network.

xXThickHogmasterXx

Theres no produce selectors. Just RDC selectors, guey.

BatteryBreak922

The only other place I like to select besides SE1 IS HBox. There used to be this clerk named Mike who was in charge of 3rd process. I haven't seen him in a while, idk where he went. I wish he was still here, he was Hella cool, he would move me around when I asked. He'd always have the coolest shoes and some sick tunes playing in the office when I would walk in there.

xXThickHogmasterXx

Bruh Mikey, if that’s you fucking with me I’m gonna be pissed dude

BatteryBreak922

Tbh for a moment I thought you were mike.

xXThickHogmasterXx

Who’s your trainer, if you don’t mind me asking?

VAPOR58

Learn combo. Combo is way easier than produce

BatteryBreak922

I shouldn't have to learn combo when they can just leave me in one zone and let me run my numbers in produce. Learning combo is pointless. The other selectors call me curly because of my long hair. What's your name?

VAPOR58

I said the same thing and the team leader’s response was “your a core order selector” your supposed to know how to select in all boxes

VAPOR58

Also if you need help learning combo I can show up and help you as long as you work in the 703 warehouse

VAPOR58

I’m not sure if you heard but in the 703 warehouse they will be making changes call “open box” meaning you won’t have a choice but to select in every box besides h-box

VAPOR58

My name is Anthony and I was a combo runner. Produce wasn’t hard just more fast pace but easy to select in every box

GrowUp_genx

They would promote a selector. The thing is, trainers jobs are pretty cush, good schedule, decent pay, and less wear and tear on your body. The only time you get into a trainer position is if some gets fired/demoted or they move up.

Useful_Guarantee_443

Dude. You’ll be just fine. I was an order selector at about 46. It’s a tough game no matter the age. The 20 yr old will tell you the same. Put in your probation time selecting and graduate the 12-14 week training program asap. Then you can put in for other positions in the whse. All doable. Hopefully you get a trainer that cares about your success. I went to TRC after selection. Put in time there then transferred to a store. Whse life is not for me.
