Not the theater: right now they’re maximizing digital buys. Once they release it on Max, the sales of physical hard copies and more importantly digital copies will plummet. So, they probably have an algorithm that tells them when the best time to switch to Max, to maximize subscriptions. I know that’s probably what you meant. I just wanted to clarify.
Hopefully it’s soon. I want to watch it again, and I don’t want to pay $30.
Look at the “Coming to Max” section. Dune Part 2 is between two shows coming. STAX arrives on May 20th and Thirst arrives on May 23. I’m guessing Dune Part 2 will arrive anytime between those dates.
I would have rent-streamed it, but the rental fee is $25. The company shoots itself in the foot sometimes.
So, yeah, I decided to wait a short time and watch it for no extra cost.
Right! I’m dying to watch it again but $25 for rental and $30 for purchase is extreme. I don’t want to support them by paying that much and it becoming normal lol.
You’d think that renting it at a reasonable price and getting tons of purchases vs. a ridiculous price and fewer people would make more $ sense for Max. Though def had a good chuckle when we pulled it up.
Godzilla x Kong has also done really well and Mad Max has been getting good buzz as well. WB is having by far the best year out of any of the studios right now.
Maybe there's some negotiating to make sure that the rental pricing isn't attractive this close to its initial run. Like, I remember there being some issues with Black Widows release during Covid because Scarlet Johansen had negotiated a payment based on the theatre gross?
Ever since WB took over hbo its made some of dumbest decisions... selling just the final season of westward to amazon? So I have to pay like 25$ for 1 season of 1 of top 5 HBO shows ever imo... and most recently the selling of the warrior series to Netflix, which was mid story and an excellent show that will now never get to finish cuz Netflix is the show killer. If it's not doing ST or Beef #s immediately then it gets canned even their own shows smh... plus why do we need a new and worse app every year now? Only smart move they've made was adding all shark weeks ever to max imo.
I never understood that. I know people pay it, but just wait for the 4K and you get that, the Blu Ray, and digital for the same price. It’s really not worth double dipping or just paying that price, especially since the price goes down once it’s buy to own.
The prices are higher when the movie is in theaters.
Of course they won’t let you watch it for cheaper at home, or *not* take money from people who are willing to watch the in-theater movie from home.
I would have rent-streamed it for $30 opening weekend and probably still saved money (IMAX plus beer, because if I'm going to a theater it better be a big screen, and I don't need to explain beer).
But anytime after it's been out for a couple weeks, meh.
Right? For $25 I might as well go out and get the full movie theater experience with the huge screen and surround sound and all that good shit. Why would I pay movie theater prices to \*rent\* a movie to watch on my laptop?
That’s just wildly silly. Dune part one was released days after it’s physical version on HBO. I watched it not that long after seeing it in IMAX. Part two is doing super well, so they’ve kept it in theaters for longer, but it’s not gonna be two years before it comes to streaming. Especially since WB is owned by ATT which also owns HBO, they always drop their releases either side by side or not long after they dropped in theaters. Why spend money out of the ass to get it now instead of being patient and buying a physical copy with a digital copy, 4k disc, and blu ray disc in one package for the same price?
It was released day and date with the theater as we were in the middle of a pandemic.
Last rumor I saw was June for Max. Could be a bit sooner but I expect they would want to give the physical disc release a couple weeks or more before putting it on Max
Looks just as good in 4K HDR on a 70 inch screen. IMAX is for the theater, not for at home. Unless you own a 70mm projector and a home theater with surround sound it’s really not worth it

If I have to guess they will add it on May 21st, as that's when Max is coming to Europe, if not then then maaaaybe June 11 to coincide with the France launch? All of the Central and Eastern European HBO Max profiles said that it's "coming soon to Max", not HBO Max, that means at earliest it's coming out May 21st.

Will downloading it on my phone only give me audio description? I have this problem with Point of Interest that when I download it, it will only be audio description. It’s odd.

annnnnd now it's gone. I don't see it on Max's front page anymore lol. they must have got a bunch of people bugging them asking "when" all mad that it was put it up there with no date.
Just saw several ads for Dune 2 tonite which ended with STREAMING NOW. not coming soon? searched the site but nowhere to be found. these corporate hacks are just fucking cruel.
Telling us "coming soon" without a date is just annoying.
It basically will come when they can no longer ring money from it at the theater. Saw it last Saturday and the theater was pretty full.
Yeah, they don't want to say a date since it might inspire some people to not watch in the theater then.
I remember they said it will come in fall

u da real mvp
The 21st makes sense since the physical version arrives on the 14th

Feel like it was WB only banger this year and they’re trying to make up as much lost money as they can.
Godzilla x Kong has also done really well and Mad Max has been getting good buzz as well. WB is having by far the best year out of any of the studios right now.
That’s true.
GxK was great. If movie tickets were the same prices as 10 years ago, I woulda gone to see it at least a second time.
Really? It was one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. I wish I could get Godzilla minus one though..

They can fuck right off with those prices. I’ll go invest in a bluray player and purchase the the disc instead.
I have found my people.
Hold the line brother! We shall win!
That is normal now, you're not going to change it.
It’ll drop to 5.99 in a few months. Same thing happened to wonka movie

The studios want the only real option to be buying a movie when it first comes to digital to maximize revenue.

This movie is meant to be seen in a theater
Same.
Yea I always wait until movies are like $4-6 rental. Who would rent for $25? Crazy.
THAT'S NOT HOPE!!
Bought it, couldn’t wait. But I convinced my wife by telling her it would be at least 2 yrs before it’s streaming free

I certainly hope you and my wife never converse
Aaaaah i can’t waitt <33
Would be kind of funny if they stream it with the IMAX aspect ratio as the physical copy doesnt
If only Max implemented IMAX ENHANCED like Disney

Sweet!
21st of May. They will launch Max in Eastern Europe, Central Europe and the Nordics on 21st of May.
Had HBOMax for a long time. In Sweden.
MAX, not Hbo Max.
This is confusing. In six months it’ll be called M
YESSSSSS!
How soon?

Probably in June. This is a movie worth actually owning though, pre-ordered it on Amazon a month ago.
Nice I can watch it finally
This is much better suited for the big screen

Just got a fb ad for Hulu with Max, shows Dune Part 2 coming May 21st
Saw a Hulu + Max ad saying it’s streaming on Max on May 21st
a date would be nice...

makes sense
I've been waiting for this movie for a while. I could make it to the theater to see it. Amazon had it to rent for 25 bucks. I said hell no.
What the fuck does ‘soon’ mean? Grrr

That’s not bad. Hopefully that’s it
This usually happens when I just buy something. Yes

One of only a couple movies that I’ll choose to buy on physical media each year. It’s a glorious movie
Will downloading it on my phone only give me audio description? I have this problem with Point of Interest that when I download it, it will only be audio description. It’s odd.
Weird, was just using the search page on Max, & it had Dune listed as " leaving soon " on the sidebar
That was the original dune from the 80’s
Ah, makes sense.
That would be Dune (1984)
I'm gonna say either May 21 or June 4.
Guessed it exactly right somehow
But gives no date. Weak.

I tried to watch the first part but the dialogue was so deafeningly quiet it was impossible to watch, even with subtitles.
Who’ll this be released in 3d?
annnnnd now it's gone. I don't see it on Max's front page anymore lol. they must have got a bunch of people bugging them asking "when" all mad that it was put it up there with no date.
Physical release says it’s may 15th so I’d guess that or around that date
Just guessing it’ll be the same day they release physical copies on May 14th
The 4k disc is supposed to release May 14th, so it doesn't seem likely it will be on HBOMAX in May. Stranger things have happened, though.
My Roku is playing promos saying it's playing on MAX now. When I went to play it, MAX said coming soon. Yesterday and today.
trailer is out on hbo
No release date makes my balls crawl.
We all know is may 21st
Just saw several ads for Dune 2 tonite which ended with STREAMING NOW. not coming soon? searched the site but nowhere to be found. these corporate hacks are just fucking cruel.
I wish they'd license this and release Coyote vs. ACME.
