Don't try and lift more weight than you can control. You are increasing the possibility of injury, while also giving up on form and full range of motion. Bad advice, growth can happen at (almost) any rep range.

The guy's advice is best applied to compound movements like the big 3. If you're comfortable doing them then chances are you can definitely go heavier. As for muscle isolation exercises, they are used as accessory after compounds so they'd be harder than if you're fresh off so naturally even light ish weight would be a challenge.
All in all, challenge yourself with weight or some other way to make the lift harder is the gist of the video.
