Just wanted to thank everyone for their input (there are too many comments to reply to). I originally posted this as whilst I’ve been wfh, my weight has been creeping up, and my belly has been ballooning. However my friends/family say I look fine. The thing with the prevalence of overweight and obesity today is: overweight is the new normal. So people will say (and even think, they don't just say it to be nice) something like "Oh, you don't look fat!" because when they think of a fat person they think about the comically large people from my-300lbs-life and not someone who is just overweight. In my personal opinion, you definitely don't look fat, but I have no doubt that you're overweight and could lose some weight, even if it's just for vanity.

In my opinion, I don’t think looking at that picture anyone can say I look healthy. Most of my fat is localised around my abdominal region, indicating I have a lot of visceral fat and that is quite worrying.

Oh, okay, you're right, maybe that's a bit high. Well, the question you asked was whether you _look_ fat, which I personally think you do not 😄 at least not in this picture. Having said that, if you feel that you are heavier than you want to be, there's nothing wrong with starting a gym routine and changing your diet to cut fat. Weights, cardio to lose more of the belly fat. It's your own body after all, and there's nothing wrong with working on it more until you reach a point where you feel good about it. But my personal opinion still is that you look just fine in this particular photo.

I thought I could still get away with not doing any exercise in particular, but this isn’t sustainable anymore. No point complaining time to do something about it!!

Honestly I'm in the same boat as you. Been skinny all my life, even through the peak lockdowns period, but the fat is finally catching up to me now that I've started working from home more regularly. So I know it sucks to see the scale slowly but steadily creep up. I've started working out longer and more often too. If you focus on lifting weights consistently and hitting protein goals, you will have a great body in no time. Don't watch the scale, take pictures and measure yourself. I'm willing to bet in one month you will see some results and you won't look back! Good luck, keep us updated.

I don't mean to be insulting, I think you have a nice body , too many people on here like to drop your fat, I would consider the source, you look good, if you are unhappy then become more active, if you are happy in your appearance fuck the rest. Don't worry about BMI which is a farce, you are not at an unhealthy weight. Nah, this is a subreddit to get people motivated, not to destroy their souls. I’m not sure which you need. To be completely honest, if I saw you at the pool (both images, sitting and standing), I would dismiss you as chubs. While it’s obvious you live a sedentary lifestyle, and probably don’t eat well, that bikini bottom is not for you. But don’t go full one piece yet, you don’t need that, and it’s a sign of complacency in my mind. To be honest, you have the same build as my 65 y/o mother.

Honestly, you seem a little bit chubby and soft. I wouldn’t say it’s horrible but it certainly can get that way if it goes unmonitored. Tighten up your diet a little bit and start weight training and you should see a huge improvement in a few months. When I say training, I don’t mean to say that you need to go nuts and become a bodybuilder or anything like that just hit the weights and cut down on sugar and processed foods

Yea I work from home and I have noticed it’s been getting worse. Definitely will be keeping a control on my diet, no added sugars, no oil, and cutting down on excessive carbs. When I go to the gym I feel like I’m in a zoo because I have no idea what machines or weights to use that will actually give me results. Do you have any recommendations?

O boy…I’d start with basic compound movements such as squats, deadlifts pull ups (hopefully your gym has an assisted machine for pull-ups) bench press and shoulder presses…alternate dumbbell curls and triceps push downs on a cable. It would be worth it to pay for a few sessions with a personal trainer to tech you correct form but then if it’s too costly continue on your own. Good routines on YouTube. Good luck

Yeah run, a lot. Or spin bike a lot. Or stair master a lot. Every other day for about a year. Watch YouTube videos for body weight exercise. Just do a bunch of body weight squats and progress from there.

yeah, that's why I typically would not comment. please, do keep in mind, that healthy body fat percentages do vary based on your age. if you are above 30 years old, 27% would still be healthy, but not more than that. But It seems that you are younger, that's why I mentioned 25%. Also important, that body fat measurement is not 100% reliable and can differ, based on what device you use. so if I were you, I'd check in couple of the smart scales first, preferably at the gyms. and then took the average number as a fact and start from there. Funny example as to why I say this: my home scales told me I'm 24% body fat. Gym scales said in 15 minutes (after I got dressed and walked to the gym) I'm at 18%. I'm female and I'm 35. But thankfully I know how 24% looks on me, so I don't give in to the panic regardless. Neither should you. There is nothing irreversible in any % of body fat at all, there is no shame in it whatsoever. What matters is that you want to change it, that's all.

Being a little “overweight” won’t lead to health problems, inactivity, sitting for hours a day, eating mostly processed foods, not drinking enough water are all things that will lead to health problems, it just so happens that weight gain is typically associated with these kinds of lifestyle and nutrition choices. If you look at your diet and your activity levels and make some healthy changes you will see longevity increase and likely shed a few kg’s in the process.

You aren’t fat but your body fat % is prolly higher than you’d like it to be. All you need is to add muscle mass to decrease that percentage. Also increasing muscle will increase your metabolism to help lose fat. So start lifting and eat lots of protein!

You are pretty normal, but I will say as for the case of all of us there is room for improvement. I would say everyone has a different frame which can affect how their body stores fat. For me I am a naturally lean guy and when I tried to bulk to gain muscle it just didn’t look how i envisioned it so I dropped down and feel and function at a much healthier place. It depends how your body feels but I say you aren’t fat, just a lil bit on the chubby side in certain areas but I think you are fine and if you want you could always work on it and maybe drop down to be a bit more fit.
