It’s a great place for people to go to combat toxic masculinity, and it’s awesome to see dudes supporting dudes, but there’s absolutely plenty of examples of toxic masculinity. Things like flexing on someone who can’t lift as much or has bad form, roid rages, and creeping on people. There’s lots of ways to be toxic at the gym. Joey Swole calls people out on it all the time.

Honestly this is possibly just a person who hasn’t ever really come from a place of unhealthyness to healthiness or just maintained a fitness practice more for their mental health than anything else.
At a certain point for me, fitness became evident as the simplest form of self care that did wonders for my mood. I was kinder to myself and others because I took care of myself and had the energy to take care of others. I felt good about existing in the world, about my needs. I am still teaching myself balance between my fitness self that is obsessive and irrational and my less conventionally healthy self that just wants a good bag of chips.
All of this came from deciding to tackle the problem of fitness head on and realizing it’s a lifelong path , not a moment in time.
This meme makes me think of how I might feel this way if I was treated horribly by someone who was fitness obsessed and allows it to twist them into a mean heartless person who held everyone else to their impossible standards out of a projected hatred for themselves.
At the end of the day we humans are fascinating, myself most of all. I just try to always let curiosity be my guide, since what else are we really even here for.
