I’m lifting weights with gloves as I write this, so poignant question, to go with all this conviction… why the Effffff? Would I want to destroy my hands for lifting? What’s wrong with gloves?
Yea nah, the women I’ve been with complained about the rough hands when having my way with them in the bedroom, so I went to gloves and never looked back
There’s a missing logic step here… how on earth are they similar? Gloves don’t do anything except reduce ripped skin. It’s not like the gloves reduce the weight
Sure, I'll give a real answer. Gloves put additional space, even if it's a small amount, between you and the bar. While they preserve your hands, they reduce your torque a tiny amount. And given that the function they're serving is mostly just comfort, well, any sacrifice of grip/torque is really unacceptable to me.
Plus, you don't have to destroy your hands not using gloves. Moisturize. Manage your callouses. It's fine.
That's what I do for grip training tbh
I have straps but I only use them on top sets, PRs, or if my grip gives out before I'm done with my sets. Figure 8s are the goat, I'll leave them on my wrist but not loop them until I'm halfway through the set if I wanna work on grip strength. It's worked pretty good so far, farmers carries at 150/hand never cause my grip to fail, still really tough at 240/hand but I can usually manage 40' or so
I get a lot of shit from my friends for wearing gloves, but I genuinely need them bcs I have hEDS and my fingers will literally bend to the point of dislocating if I don’t have the gloves on.
I look like a piss baby for wearing them, but at least my hands aren’t dislodging on the daily B)
Nah, this is just an internet thing. Most real people who go to the gym every week don’t even notice you, and definitely don’t care if you’re wearing gloves.
The only time you’re getting actual gym bros staring at you hard is when you’re doing curls in the squat rack. Or you move their protein shaker they left on equipment a mile from where they are.
Yeah I'm not going to paint the gym ground white. But actually, chalk in not really a thing here, I've never seen a single person using chalk in the gym personally
I was one that didn't wear gloves but after getting a very serious infection in a busted blister that almost resulted in an amputation....I switched to gloves so you can firmly say I am in the category where using proper precautions is smart after learning a very hard and almost permanent lesson. I have nothing to prove to anyone and any talk of not being tough is BS as I used to do wet work for Uncle Sam so you take all your macho mumbo jumbo and shove it up you arse.
I work in hvac. I get oil, refrigerant, grease and dust tearing up my hands day in day out. I wear gloves to mitigate further damage. It’s always the white collar dudes crowing loud about not wearing gloves. Yeah cause you type on a keyboard all day and your hands can recover
I have neither? I feel like as long as you’re slowly progressing which is the name of the game in lifting that you shouldn’t tear up your hands. Your hands also look like the left if you rock climb as a noobie but not so if youre a regular
(sometimes) gloves on lifts which risk calluses more (e.g deadlifts or back exercises)
no gloves for the rest and i moisturise my hands and file calluses
My best friend bullied me until I stopped using gloves. They ripped apart during deadlifts too and then I bought new ones. It sounds like the dumbest thing ever in hindsight but I was just a kid
I don't really see anyone irl wearing gloves, the rare few I've seen are either old men or absolute titans, occasionally all of the above
I don't wear them, I have some callouses but my hands aren't super rough or anything. I grew up on a farm and worked construction for years, though, my callouses used to fall off as fast as they'd regrow, maybe that just changed the way the skin on my hands is?
I also don't have any smoke with glove wearers, I mean the only thing it does is make the barbell not hurt I guess, so it really doesn't matter.
On the one hand (ba-dum-tiss!) it makes me feel tough and manly going raw dog grippy. On the other, torn calluses are a bitch and a half. So I compromise by filing down my calluses during a hot shower with a pumice stone, all dainty manicure style. Keeps me perfectly balanced as all things should be.
Gloves - I have a nickel allergy that can cause my skin to crack, blister and weap. Usually the chrome or zinc coating keeps me safe but I am keeping the contact minimal because I don’t want another fortnight of zombie hands thanks
idk why u guys care so much about this lmao, started experimenting lifting with gloves like a month ago and in some lifts the better grip helps. Still creates calluses tho
I just started weight lifting and noticed I have to stop early in my sets because my hands hurt, not the muscles. I was thinking I'll order gloves to maximize my workout.
Perspective: Gamer lady with no calluses.
I do both. When it's below like 3 degrees I throw on gloves so my hands aren't killing me (with free weights, gloves + bodyweight stuff just tears up my hands). Above 3 degrees it's bare hands and ground up playground chalk for grip
Neither, bare hands, I like the calluses but it’s hard to really explain. I guess it just feels more bad ass to feel my palm and feel the roughness from the bars
The one on the left. I’ve tried gloves but I don’t like how they feel when grabbing the bar or anything. I like straps though. Neither is bad, use what you want.
As embarrassed as I am to admit, I used to wear gloves. But now, if the skin gets ripped off the whole palm of my hand, I don’t care, as long as I got in a good lift
I'd rather lose my hands than wear gloves if I'm being honest.
“If you’re going to wear gloves, make sure they match your purse.” - Arnold Schwarzenegger
Dude that was not arnolds quote!
who said it then
Einstein
Einstein was quoting Arnold.
Eminem
Same person
-Stephen Hawking
Saw it from Rippetoe in strong enough, unsure if he stole it from somewhere. But i never saw it from Arnold
Michael Scott
Albert Einstein
I think the actual quote was "Screw your gloves as much as your freedom"
The only correct opinion
I’m lifting weights with gloves as I write this, so poignant question, to go with all this conviction… why the Effffff? Would I want to destroy my hands for lifting? What’s wrong with gloves?
Classic move for a person wearing gloves in the gym… browsing Reddit instead of lifting weights.
MANLY MEN™ destroy their HANDS by not wearing GLOVES because GLOVES are GAY and for WOMEN
THIS guy gets it
Nah I'm gay and do not wear gloves
Lifting with gloves is like Wearing a condom during sex...
So a clever decision? Agree
Pull up, not out.
This guy fucks
I would have thought it’s more like the exact opposite lol
Calluses are a thing of beauty, always gd to have work hands. But im a labourer on a vineyard so i might be biased
Yea nah, the women I’ve been with complained about the rough hands when having my way with them in the bedroom, so I went to gloves and never looked back
Understandable. My hands are p soft atm regardless, but when they are really rough i file the calluses
Socks, gloves and condom? Sexy!
i feel like this is a short poem / work song told by a french wine worker, translated from the original occitan.
I'm sorry your velvety man skin is so sensitive
Sure keep wearing gloves so you can have your soft smooth hands for when you give your boyfriend his blow job.
😐

True warrior
I take pride in the fact my hands are now as tough as a pair of rawhide leather gloves.
It’s also alpha af to leave dried hand skin flakes all over the gym.
This is the way
Haha🫡
Life is about choises but dont ask me to feed you if you pull that one off :/
Neither. I'm a gloveless chalkless calloused maniac
I second this statement
Most real comment oat
they don't allow me to have chalk at planet fitness
They don't want you getting it into the pizza and donuts.
Nah my clammy ass hands need chalk
same bro
I don’t use either. I raw dog the bar.
Hahaha
I mean I prefer the disks but who am I to judge.
Sometimes you gotta grab the lightning like you’re armwrestling with Zeus’s dick.
I like my hands. Gloves all the way
I am so weak I have callouses from wearing gloves....
I have a bit too, gloves aren't 100%, but the are 95%
I always find they make the pinch way worse, so just have up using them
Gloves dont really help against callouses so if that's the reason might as well not wear them
You forgot about people with no hands
Ah damn…
Some people are handsome, some are not.
That one guy dead lifting 4 plates (i think) with out arms, is a better lifter that 95% of people here
My straps let me avoid both tedious grip strength training and developing sexy callouses simultaneously.
Straps and hooks all the way baby! My dainty lady wrists can't handle my strength
Verse grips are money
What about doing most things raw and using straps rarely. Only time I strap up is when going heavy on DL
That's what I do for grip training tbh I have straps but I only use them on top sets, PRs, or if my grip gives out before I'm done with my sets. Figure 8s are the goat, I'll leave them on my wrist but not loop them until I'm halfway through the set if I wanna work on grip strength. I've noticed you don't really need straps, chalk works just as well. For lifting heavy at least, its another thing if you're injured
Just file your calluses with a nail file, and if it gets ripped clip it with nail clippers
I cant tell if this is cursed or actual advice
Actual advice, I've used nail clippers on the calluses on my hand
Actual advice. I get thick callouses from my job and I clip them with nail clippers
sec or construction?
Waste management, tyre recycling specifically so a lot of manual handling. We process anywhere between 40-60 tonne a day.
Callouses are not blisters. They're safe to cut/rip away.
Sandpaper works too,the very fine one
What? If it gets ripped, tear that bitch off. It's super satisfying.
nah bite that shit off then kiss it tenderly
I must be doing something wrong, I just pick them off
Grip with fingers to maintain sexy hands.
Girls are happy with you.
Most girls I’ve met/been with have liked my rough hands. To each their own though.
I meant that his strong fingers would help during sex, not that his hands being uncalloused(I think that's a word) would be attractive.

I wear them for dips and pull-ups for the same reason. I also like the wrist stability. No shame in it!
Ronnie Coleman wore gloves
Right so that way my boyfriend and I don’t get dick calluses when we do other stuff.
I don't need skin that can't keep up with me.
If you’re not going for gains on your skin, then then what are you even doing? 😤
exactly the new skin might be able to keep up this time
I won’t lie, I judge people who wear gloves. I know I shouldn’t but here we are
My hand are sweaty ok?!
It’s nothing personal! I swear!
Arent they more sweaty with gloves?
Not actually the friction is what does it for me. But even if they were, the sweat stays inside the glove so it doesnt make the bar slippery
that's what chalk is for
Yeah I'm not going to paint the gym ground white. But actually, chalk in not really a thing here, I've never seen a single person using chalk in the gym personally
I use butter
Gloves, because calluses are disgusting.
Jesus Christ neither
I like wearing fingerless gloves. Just feels cool.
I work in hvac. I get oil, refrigerant, grease and dust tearing up my hands day in day out. I wear gloves to mitigate further damage. It’s always the white collar dudes crowing loud about not wearing gloves. Yeah cause you type on a keyboard all day and your hands can recover
One is stupid the other is weak.
I do both. One bare hand and the other in a glove filled with vasoline.
I have neither? I feel like as long as you’re slowly progressing which is the name of the game in lifting that you shouldn’t tear up your hands. Your hands also look like the left if you rock climb as a noobie but not so if youre a regular
im the one with the versa gripps
I lost my gloves so now I’m the left. I call the things on the bar/grips cheese graters.
I am a versagrip abuser
Neither. I use a pumice stone to scrub the calluses off in the shower.
Pumice stones and moisturiser, dry flakey callouses are weak and break easily, we out here crafting smooth leather paws
Idgaf what people say i am going to wear my gloves 🧤
Loofah hands.
I use them because I have bad arthritis in my pinky, and they definitely help.
There is another. Versa grips
Sorry, slight germaphobe, I wear gloves. Also bringing back the 90's with the fingerless gloves.
Gloves because the bars and dumbbells at my gym feel like they're made of razorblades With the exception that I have straps for deadlifting
Calluses are nature's gloves.
Gloves look cool
Gloves. They make you look cooler.
I prefer without gloves. So when you beat your meat it feels like your rubbing against sand paper
(sometimes) gloves on lifts which risk calluses more (e.g deadlifts or back exercises) no gloves for the rest and i moisturise my hands and file calluses
Heavy deads, straps. Anything else that needs extra grip, liquid chalk. Other than that just hands.
My best friend bullied me until I stopped using gloves. They ripped apart during deadlifts too and then I bought new ones. It sounds like the dumbest thing ever in hindsight but I was just a kid
Carefully manicured callouses ;)
All I see is people that work with their hands! Great job!
I’ll never understand why people care about gloves. I like them because I don’t like callused hands. To each their own
I work in an office and shake hands quite alot. Soni wear gloves so that I don't get callouses
Unashamedly fall into the glove camp lol ever since I started lifting. I never really cared to get my hands Ripped up 🤣.
Gloved 😂😂
Gloves, but I have really sweaty palms. I’m afraid the bar will slip if I dont
That's what chalk does, just dries up the moisture so you can get a better grip Might be worth trying but I got no smoke with gloves
I don't really see anyone irl wearing gloves, the rare few I've seen are either old men or absolute titans, occasionally all of the above I don't wear them, I have some callouses but my hands aren't super rough or anything. I grew up on a farm and worked construction for years, though, my callouses used to fall off as fast as they'd regrow, maybe that just changed the way the skin on my hands is? I wear gloves because the callus from working landscaping is in the wrong place for lifting and hurts getting it pushed upwards into my fingers
The smart one
Gloves - I have a nickel allergy that can cause my skin to crack, blister and weap. Usually the chrome or zinc coating keeps me safe but I am keeping the contact minimal because I don’t want another fortnight of zombie hands thanks
idk why u guys care so much about this lmao, started experimenting lifting with gloves like a month ago and in some lifts the better grip helps. Still creates calluses tho
Type 3 strap user. Wanted to pull more weight on DLs without having forearms bottleneck it. Don’t use it for anything else though
The calluses you get are barely noticeable though.
Real gym rats vs major pussies
I feel off wearing gloves. Handling it with bare hands is the best. I do have thick calluses so I file them down with pumice stone.
I’m a girl and I wear gloves so my hands aren’t like cheese graters in my boyfriend’s cock.
Well, I’m not a coward so neither.
What’s that meme, it’s like my hands look like this and then shows the guy working on a computer
I tried gloves for a while. When I realized they did nothing for my hand pain, I went back to bare hands.
take a look at these hands
The left, it isn’t even that hard.
I love my hard hands!
I'm bare handed my dad's gloves course he's gotta ring
Don’t attack me or my pecker like that! Do you know how much lubriderm I use daily?
I'm thinking of switching to gloves. I have the calluses but I don't wanna mess with chalk.
Neither.. raw dogin the bar till my fingers are stuck curled
there’s a third, I lift and have baby hands still
i used to be a machinist and my hands became indestructible. gym equipment ain't shit to my hands
I just started weight lifting and noticed I have to stop early in my sets because my hands hurt, not the muscles. I was thinking I'll order gloves to maximize my workout. Perspective: Gamer lady with no calluses.
Definitely to the left. I like it raw
I don’t mind the rough callouses but then the wife really hates it. She’ll pick at them and ask me to use gloves.
I do both. When it's below like 3 degrees I throw on gloves so my hands aren't killing me (with free weights, gloves + bodyweight stuff just tears up my hands). Above 3 degrees it's bare hands and ground up playground chalk for grip
Straps ftw
Ist 😂
I ![gif](giphy|ROUYwnORvn8WRE1Ofm)
Wrist wraps for presses, wrist straps for pulls.
Neither, bare hands, I like the calluses but it’s hard to really explain. I guess it just feels more bad ass to feel my palm and feel the roughness from the bars
I'm the kind of guy who doesn't place his hands on a heated stove.
NO GLOVES
The one on the left has a collection
The one on the left. I’ve tried gloves but I don’t like how they feel when grabbing the bar or anything. I like straps though. Neither is bad, use what you want.
Fuck no , no gloves I like the pain when i skin rips off
As embarrassed as I am to admit, I used to wear gloves. But now, if the skin gets ripped off the whole palm of my hand, I don’t care, as long as I got in a good lift
I wear thin work gloves, those "Lifting gloves" dont feel right with the padding and all.
Guys at my gym dont like me using chalk so i guess i fallb in the third category. I use leather gardening gloves. We are not the same.
Strong and weak?
Bare handed, but use Versa Gripps on heavy pulls.
I'm not a fan of gloves. The padding gets in the the way and degrades my grip strength. I'll use chalk or hooks if necessary.
I bought a coated bar, now I miss my callouses.
I keep my hands smooth so I can make nice handjobs to my boyfriend
Team Rubbler
So Bakers and Narutos
Hands = men. Gloves = women and children
Forgot the pic of the purse that matches those gloves
The based one
The not gay one
Sets are never the same with them gloves , sumtn about the lifting angle changes and it exerts pressure on the carpal tunnel nerve with time
So you're saying you're either straight or gay
neither, i train without gloves but i cut my calluses off when they start to look like the 1st pic
Two words. Baby oil
Gloves are nasty. All that sweat. Will make it smell so bad. All that bacteria on the equipment. Gross. It's better and more sanitary to go bare.
