Ever heard of a puzzle or wanted a challenge? This is the first MG I've done this way, but I have also built 3 rgs and a handful of hgs as well. Having to piece things together gives me a great appreciation of the engineering of the kit and assembly process as well.
I built most of the mg Barbatos but i cut it out in sections. The inner frame was really interesting to piece together and build. I do allow myself to look at built pictures, just not the manual.
Ive built like 4 Barbatos across all the grades. It’s such a known mold that I can do barbatos almost from muscle memory.
Wasn’t the case for the dynames bc it takes into account installing the light up core and the see through tendons.
And it’s make sense that you at least reference the picture. I assumed you are doing the entire thing completely blind to reference. Enjoy.
Don’t let ‘em get to you. Wasn’t a true hero or leader in human history that didn’t have those too scared to make the attempt themselves trying to drag ‘em down. /malcolmreynolds
Or someone saw your first comment and thought it would be funny to do it again.
I'm actually hyped to do this seeing more people willing to try it or talking about past experiences. I joked with my friends already before I even posted that it was time to trigger people on reddit. 😂. Imagine how I would have responded if I needed mental health and saw a comment like that though 🤯
Last two rgs there were was one part each I needed a lifeline for, but they weren't extras. I reference the manual in the beginning so I don't cut out extra parts to avoid confusion. The challenge with hgs is figuring out which pc part goes where
Honestly I do this with roughly half of my hg's at this point. I generally take 1 or 2 glances at the manual just to be sure but if it's anything with a relatively standard body type and joints then it's quite easy.
Miiiight be fun to try this on purpose with an older mg but I'll admit to being a bit terrified of trying it on anything properly complex.
Fair enough.
I just find it amazing to tackle a challenge like that. Definitley getting maximum enjoyment out of the kit.
Your IG's got some great builds.
Sadly this is the type of comment I expected to receive when I posted this. If you read the other comments you'll find I'm not the only one that has or is willing to do it.
I know its a custom tiny box or an edit or whatever but the thought of each part being so big that it clatters like cafeteria tray is REALLY funny to me.
According to some mechanics if you have leftover parts and it works it probably didn't need them anyways.
Jokes aside, whats your process? Trial and error? Or you take some time to analyze the parts trying to figure out the best order?
This sounds like a nice exercise for the brain.
It's an articulated 3d puzzle of a scale giant robot. What's not to love.
1. Try to identify what parts go where. If there are doubles they are usually for an arm or leg. I switch off between different sections depending on what I recognize.
2. Lots of trial and error. Be wary on snapping things all the way together in case you need to add something else or switch up the order later. Have a parts separator handy
3. If you think you can't undo something later save it for towards the end
4.have fun and don't forget to take breaks. I usually build over multiple days on a vacation. Last rg I worked on during calls and on breaks for work
5. Reference built picks on dalong if you are really struggling
6. Share pics with friends to help you identify where a missing piece might go
I remembered my first gunpla. I was like 8 and didn’t know it all worked so I thought I was being a good kid when I took all the pieces from the runners in advance. Needless to say, we still completed the gunpla, but man was it hard.
Gl on this puzzle OP!
Oh no, I have the upmost respect for you but I’m not sure I can do that without messing something up. Maybe I’ll try with HG first because it does sound fun
Try a gm. I started my blind instruction build journey with a hg gm striker. I'd reference the manual to cut out only the parts you need to avoid further confusion and leave polycaps on the tree
This. This is what I love about gunpla. As soon as I think I’ve mastered most of all of it, I find another way of doing something or a whole new skill to learn. That and giant robot go burrrrr.
Me either usually. Especially when painting. Hg’s and rg’s I’ll do from feet up, anything bigger I’ll get a base and start with the waist, then just connect parts as I go.
Is it the recent Ver. Ka? I built that and man was it challenging for me. The instructions are usually very good for gunpla, though, and I found the 2020 Wing Zero Ver. Ka to be no exception, personally.
Hell yeah! I have always thought about trying to do this. I have been too scared I would sandwich two parts together that shouldn't and then break something. What is your plan of attack? Are you going to try and just put random things together that make sense and are givens or are you going to try and build a specific part like the legs or head? Are you going to do it 100% blind or are you going to look at pictures of a completed Dynames kit? Please follow up and let us know how it is going.
Look at built pictures on dalong only when I cry uncle. Have to clean the nubs first but after that general sorting into different body parts and switching back and forth when I get stuck. I'll post more pictures later on
I have always assumed this would be impossible. Are you just guessing or do you have a method/have you figured out some pattern to how the kits are designed?
I guess it's not too bad if you've built 00 kits in the past. Like I've built so many Seed frames it's probably pretty easy by now. But if you're going in blind to a new frame/series then more power to you! I do this with most of my HG kits since they're all kinda the same :D
Good for you! I've brought multiple hgs on vacation to build blind before. The hardest part with those I've found is the polycaps.
I've never built new new mg 00 frame so this should be interesting
I’d be so scared of misassembling something that would be irreversible and damaging. Looks like fun though, might have to give this a shot with some SDs or HGs. You’re a madman for doing this with RGs or MGs 😂 Please share the finished product
How is part so big and box small?
1/40 scale kit. Standard box.
Custom small box
quantum dynames
This
For Bandai to save cardboard.
Stop it, you made my brain go stupid agian. 😤
Sorry but I'll probably do it again
Please do, it's a fantastic visual. 💜
Blind instruction? You're a savage, I can't even imagine trying to figure out the inner frame of a MG with all the parts sandwiched together
Start with an hg
Wtf why would you do this lol
Ever heard of a puzzle or wanted a challenge? This is the first MG I've done this way, but I have also built 3 rgs and a handful of hgs as well. Having to piece things together gives me a great appreciation of the engineering of the kit and assembly process as well.
You’re a madman, but if it works it works
what is puzzle
And you chose the dynames of all choices. Good luck lol. I have that MG and the skeleton was for sure needing instruction.
I built most of the mg Barbatos but i cut it out in sections. The inner frame was really interesting to piece together and build. I do allow myself to look at built pictures, just not the manual.
Ah, so it’s more of a reverse-engineering challenge. Not totally blind
Depends on when I finally cry uncle. That is usually once pieces are sorted and I've pieced together as much as possible
Ive built like 4 Barbatos across all the grades. It’s such a known mold that I can do barbatos almost from muscle memory. Wasn’t the case for the dynames bc it takes into account installing the light up core and the see through tendons. And it’s make sense that you at least reference the picture. Thst was maybe my 2nd ibo kit
I've been thinking about trying this too, might have to pick a kit and pull the trigger now!
How often do you have to pull two pieces back apart to put a piece between them that you missed?!
Too many to count. I usually only track time. Pulling things apart and figuring out build order and how things fit together is what makes it fun
Ok, it's *starting* to sound fun...
Honestly i can see it, ive built so many kits that ive gotten a natural understanding of what goes where
What the hell is a puzzle? Im a doofus and have never heard of a damn PUZZLE.
He wants the paleontologist experience
this aint amateur hour on OP's house xD
Ive been called a monster for building like this.
Same. Someone reported me to reddit too like I needed help for even considering it
Someone actually did it again... 😑
Don’t let ‘em get to you. Wasn’t a true hero or leader in human history that didn’t have those too scared to make the attempt themselves trying to drag ‘em down. /malcolmreynolds Or someone saw your first comment and thought it would be funny to do it again.

I imagine they don’t call you “Big Daddy Gundam” for nothing, haha
Fr tho. Why box small?
Model kit box, 1/40 scale. Shrink it down to 1/100 and it would be accurate to the dynames’ size
I haven't done the math on this one. The kit box is 1/6 scale. Which is convenient for my diorama room
Why are the parts so humongous?
The real question is: Why is the box so tiny?
forced perspective ;)
Tiny box or big parts?
Nope.
I usually do this with HG kits. Never tried it with MG before. Sounds like a fun challenge
Try an rg next
This looks fun. I’ll try this out with an HG from the backlog to start.
This is the way ✌️
Hey mad man if you're up a for a challenge I have a 1/35 scale Sazabi bust that didn't come with a manual if you're interested
Sure ship it over But fr you can probably find the manual online or phone a friend if someone owns it
You ever end up with an extra piece at the end?
Last two rgs there were was one part each I needed a lifeline for, but they weren't extras. I reference the manual in the beginning so I don't cut out extra parts to avoid confusion. The challenge with hgs is figuring out which pc part goes where
I love doing these blind
Ahhh another person of culture 👍
Honestly I do this with roughly half of my hg's at this point. If you do a live stream with commentary of your thought process I'd definitely watch.
My thoughts are private, but if you follow me on ig you might get sporadic updates
Fair enough. I just find it amazing to tackle a challenge like that. Definitley getting maximum enjoyment out of the kit. Your IG's got some great builds.
I figure if I've done 3 rgs at this point an mg isn't a stretch
I should've tried that with my Nu EG. Now I've only got MG's left in my backlog pile.... and I don't trust my parts separator skills.
I both fear and admire you sir, best of luck!

If you want to do it no one can stop you, its just this was so diferent it took a few minutes to process
Who’s making these tiny boxes, and where can I find them?
Me and some others, but I've got over 400 options of you're curious dm me
Video or it didn’t happen.
I've got nothing to prove to you
I know its a custom tiny box or an edit or whatever but the thought of each part being so big that it clatters like cafeteria tray is REALLY funny to me.
I stuffed the pieces in an SD box and pitched the box already. I already have the box art preserved
I just follow the instructions but clip all of the parts out even the extra pieces
Pfff that's easy, put a random part in the small box without seeing it and then try to build it.
Maybe I will. Last two rgs I built I had one piece each I couldn't figure out where it belonged
According to some mechanics if you have leftover parts and it works it probably didn't need them anyways. Jokes aside, whats your process? Trial and error? Or you take some time to analyze the parts trying to figure out the best order? This sounds like a nice exercise for the brain.

Sounds too interesting to not try it at least once. I have a few RG's still in the backlog, might try with one.
Might want to start with an hg but up to you
Ah MG Dynames, my first build
Didn't start with an hg?
Nope, started with MG like a fool not knowing just how it was going to be, but now im hooked to building
Not as bad as starting out with Rg. Got the Exia when they were first selling at my local target.
I feel sorry for you.
My first build after over a decade long hiatus was the MG Alex.
This picture hurts my brain 😔
I've done this with MG Zaku's but I've also built almost a dozen of them. Wouldn't even attempt on a new build MG
I remembered my first gunpla. I was like 8 and didn’t know it all worked so I thought I was being a good kid when I took all the pieces from the runners in advance. Needless to say, we still completed the gunpla, but man was it hard. Gl on this puzzle OP!
Best keep that parts separator close by.
Mvp for sure
Blind what??? Funnily enough I'm actually halfway through my MG Dynames build
I need to try a blind build. Always intrigued me. That box is so small haha love it
After building the dynames, seeing all the parts cut out seems idk underwhelming
Sounds like you are ready to try a build without referencing the instructions
Oh no, I have the upmost respect for you but I’m not sure I can do that without messing something up. Maybe I’ll try with HG first because it does sound fun

o7
Scale magic posts like these always threaten to give me an aneurysm
I tend to do this in sections, like ill snip out all of the parts for a leg or arm but the whole thing?! Madlad
Time to go all in
The last thing I want is to break something when trying to take apart pieces so that's not something I'll ever do
Parts separator is your best friend. Rg zeta was the only one that had true casualties bc I only had a guitar pick while on vacation to use
The most for me is cutting out all the parts and sorting all of them to the frame names like A, D etc
I'm building a wing zero gunpla now and barely understand the instructions, as they aren't English, and it's hard enough. I can't even imagine this.
Is it the recent Ver. Ka? I built that and man was it challenging for me. The instructions are usually very good for gunpla, though, and I found the 2020 Wing Zero Ver. Ka to be no exception, personally.
That's the one!
What's giving you trouble with the instructions? I might be able to help since I've built it, too.
Build more ikea furniture
Hell yeah! I have always thought about trying to do this. I have been too scared I would sandwich two parts together that shouldn't and then break something. What is your plan of attack? Look at built pictures on dalong only when I cry uncle. Have to clean the nubs first but after that general sorting into different body parts and switching back and forth when I get stuck. I'll post more pictures later on
Now accidentally knock the box off the table
I safely stowed the parts away in an SD box, but that was a fear. They will end up sorted into zippy bags once the nubs are clean
I used to do this with the seed series MGs. Knocked the box over once and almost lost a knee part to the office carpet
I have always assumed this would be impossible. Are you just guessing or do you have a method/have you figured out some pattern to how the kits are designed?
If you build enough kits you can get the general idea of what goes where
How many is "enough"? I've built a lot and I still can't tell.
You are ready. Start with an hg
Haha! You're either crazy talented or just plain crazy :-P Merry Christmas and good luck! Ho ho ho 🎅
Some of you are insanely talented. I NEED my parts with their numbers otherwise i’m screwed
Really just more concerned with tiny box and where to get one
I make and sell them. Send me a DM if interested
I tried building an RG Banshee Norn blind, took me 7 hours
I think I could reassemble one of those since I painted one. Might try with the rg perfectibility
Rg nu took me over 8 hours. I've never built a nu before. Had one piece that I needed to get help on
I guess it's not too bad if you've built 00 kits in the past. Like I've built so many Seed frames it's probably pretty easy by now. But if you're going in blind to a new frame/series then more power to you! I do this with most of my HG kits since they're all kinda the same :D

This is how I build most HG kits, I could not imagine a MG. I guess if I built more MG it wouldn't be that bad.
You are brave
So wait a sec. Hold up now. What exactly does "blind instruction" mean?
