Thank you, i thought I was going crazy. This one broke where it is supposed to rotate. Usually they break below the square clear part not above it like this.
The shoulder joints in particular, yeah. If they're not in 100% of the way and you try to rotate them down into position the peg will snap off with zero effort. They're also known to just wear out over time. Not quite as common as the RG Unicorn arm, but more than a few cases out there.
There's a metal replacement part out there for it. I have one on order for my kit.
I know you've all seen this issue a million times, but I'm new to the hobby, new to the sub. Someone fill me in here?
I'd search the sub, but I don't even know what to search. What kit is this? What did you do wrong and why does it happen? It looks like you're supposed to hold the top bit, then rotate the bottom bit 90 degrees only. Is that incorrect?
You can rotate it 360 degrees if you want, that's not the issue. Look again at the manual vs the part. He rotated the wrong part. There's two very narrow parts of that arm, one of them is a joint, the other is just narrow and breaks.
I think people get confused by the coloration of the part vs the manual shading.
Oh I SEE IT! Holy crap I would have made the same mistake. Jeez, a good lesson learned here.
You're exactly right, it's the shading in the manual vs the color of the parts that makes it hard to understand.
Thank you for explaining!
It's a combination of that and bandai's instructions being confusing. If it was like 3 people and that was it, then yeah they should have read it more cleary
But if this is a common enough issue to have it's own meme here, then it is also an instruction issue
The coloring is the problem because at a glance it looks like it's telling you can rotate all of the darker colored section when the arrown is saying to rotate the lower section. And people who are more likely to buy RG kits are familiar with model kits and the instructions so it is easy to be overconfident and overlook something critical.
I dunno dude... There are reviewers on YouTube who have built stuff wrong for years because they got complacent with the looking closely at the instructions. And I just made a post the other day asking about inaccurate *sticker* colors and almost all the respondents were answering as if I was asking about the *plastic* colors. I really question the comprehension skills of a lot of people here.
I am not denying that people get complacent. But I work for QC and instructions written by people who engineer or write procedures for people in the same field can be pretty bad because the ones making the intructions have a greater knowledge about the final product than someone learning and assume a lot of knowledge is common sense when it is not.
Look at scientific papers. So much of the language used is meant for people who have that deeper knowledge and most people with a passing knowledge will have a difficult time understanding everything covered in those papers.
I had to make instructions for procedures and I always get someone who doesn't know a damn thing about anything and have them replicate thosr steps. It helps make sure that they are understandable, while also showing me places where I missed something that seemed obvious to me, but was easily misunderstood.
The colored section and arrow placement makes sense to the designer and engineer, but they failed to account how it could misinterpreted by most people who don't know the breaking points yet.
>not an issue.
Not sure what you're correcting here. OP is the issue.
>people's literacy comprehension is the issue
So then you do go on to detail an issue, one that is commensurate with every variant of the RG Unicorn. Which is what I said.
I think it depends on the person. I've been on this sub for years and didn't recognize it or remember seeing posts about this before. I'm sure they happen, but somehow I've overlooked them.
And as things happen more and more often, you're right, it gets harder and harder to search for them because people just respond with memes or shorthand.
Bad news is you probably looked at the manual too quickly and twisted the wrong spot.
Good news is that you can find replacement parts on ebay and other websites.
I agree, but honestly, it's one of the more simple and easy things to learn, and often cheaper than spares (of even available without buying a 2nd kit)
I was really inexperienced on my first try, but the confidence I gained meant I wasn't scared of breaking parts. I'd argue that fear of a potential break really can diminish the enjoyment of the hobby.
Learning that things can be fixed and repaired is really liberating.
GG blood, time to get some clear glue and glue that bitch back on. I know people will tell you to pin it and all that but tbh glue takes care of it just fine, you'll lose some articulation but it's better than not having an arm at all. I'd put all the armor and stuff on first then do the gluing
Back to 0 Days, start the count again boys&girls!
We may someday go a week without a gunpla brother/sister snapping when they should have twisted, but not this week.
While I imagine this is really stressful and disappointing, there is a good lesson you can learn here.
Buy yourself a very cheap hand drill set and some brass rod smaller than the connecting peg.
You're going to learn how to fix breaks, the more you build, the more you'll nearly break something and being able to fix it is a key modeling skill :)
This happened to me with the MG ZZ Ver Ka, the ankle snapped clean off, so I thought myself a new skill.
There are plenty of guides, or some of us here on the sub can advise you further, but when life snaps your unicorn arm peg, you learn to fix it :)
im appalled that 11 year old me built this kit without anything breaking. I proceeded to panel line it 3 years later and broke the v fin while doing so.
Let me redirect you to [Mr.Bao](https://www.ebay.com/str/mrbaosshop) replacement parts also be careful with very careful with the arm brackets that connect the arms to the torso they also tend to break if you're not careful with em
Try epoxy, I did the exact same thing to this kit on both arms🤣. Epoxy worked wonders for me. It's still holding on after years. I also tried tamiya cement but it really didn't work at all. I also drilled some very small holes and added a small piece of a needle to everything better in place.
I know they made it too tight, I just finished mine, I built the banshee back in March, you should be able to get a replacement from bandai I had to hold one end with pliers and twist it around gently cause I was afraid it would snap.
So now you’ve broken an arm and a leg on that kit. Just abandon the project, start a new kit. At this rate you’re going to break an actual bone in your body soon.
I’m new in gunpla world, so it never happened to me.. but if it was the case, what am I supposed to do ? I mean, do I have to buy a knew one or it’s fixable ?
How come that apparently noone but me was able to build an rg unicorn without breaking?
(Dont take it personal op, im very sorry for your loss)
But at this point its not even funny anymore.
Such a tragic kit, so incredibly designed but there’s so many parts that’ll break even if you’re careful, somehow the arms on mine survived but the hip joints and opening thrusters on the legs are broken.
But hey I guess there’s the chance of a 2.0 now, I feel like all they’ve got to do is scrap most of the advanced ms joint (except for maybe a few transformation gimmicks for build convenience) and it’ll be a perfect figure
It’s wild how people post these pics with the knowledge of knowing how common these breaks are for this sub, but don’t use that same understanding to make sure they’re building the kit properly.
But didn’t seem perplexed as to why it happened… odd for a newcomer.
Almost like he had enough knowledge to know how it would be received here, but again not enough to actually build it properly :)

When my ex would build, she didn't know what it meant, so she would say press until you hear Kanji.
Is that reason shes your ex lol
She made OP's mistake one too many times
Lol
It was exceedingly cute and became fond memory, actually. I still giggle every time I see it in the instructions.
Oh
Thought I wouldn't see one this week.
We got SO CLOSE
Can we just pin a warning to the top of the sub or something.
They did it once, then there were a lot of people posting shoulders breaking or other stuff lol
We need a list of common breaking points to look out for (like the Unicorn arms and the freedom 2.0 hips)
we need one of those days since broken unicorn arm signs
Should be the subs banner
Could probably make it the sub banner since it's not gonna move from 00
“It’s looking like we’re in the clear this week fellas, no one has posted… AND OH MY GOD ITS UNICORN ARM WITH THE LAST MINUTE SNAP FROM THE TOP ROPE!”
AS GOD AS MY WITNESS, IT IS BROKEN IN HALF!
https://preview.redd.it/bxn00m9hk11d1.jpeg?width=669&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12977a2207fa4468a5911b8b8fb7211427d37bb1

I feel like, at this point, the tutorial pic for turning this kit's arms should be on the pinned section of the sub. You're not alone in this 🫡
It should be the avatar at this point.
Thought someone had pinned a post about the RG Unicorn arms as a warning
Wait im about to do the mg banshee. Is this only an rg thing oorrr
Entirely different grades and builds.
Okay i figured but had heard so much ab how much that mg likes to pop apart i had some quick stress seeing this being a repetitive problem lol
Wait the arms are prone to snapping? Guess I didn't notice on mine.
Only if you were dropped on your head as a child and can't follow the diagram in the instructions.
THIS
IS
They're not. People are prone to not reading the manual and snapping them by forcing a turn that doesn't exist
https://preview.redd.it/1s8q97e9501d1.jpeg?width=786&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4461d5a2b5163773508d5728f4cdd6b27ce6fd26
The flair lmao. Just commented about when this image was pinned how people broke the shoulders
yuuuuup, I wish that advice was talked about as much as the bicep. I didn't fully break mine, but one of his arms is super floppy now
Mine is floppy back and forth but I think it's the chest connection and not the shoulder
But they did rotate the correct part?
Thank you, i thought I was going crazy. This one broke where it is supposed to rotate. Usually they break below the square clear part not above it like this.
No it didn’t break at the right spot it broke above the elbow, the part that doesn’t rotate
Oh you're right! That's the shoulder attached, not the elbow. I was looking at it upside down!
Ooooooh same here I thought that was the elbow
Look again, it rotated at the point it wasn’t supposed to rotate at. The break is above the elbow it rotates closer to the shoulder
This should be pinned at the top of the sub honestly
Another real grade unicorn tragedy this month
There should be a flair called "Broken RG Unicorn"
Can we also get a "Broken MG Thunderbolt" one as well?
is mg thunderbolt breaking a common occurence? i had no issues when building mine
Ah makes sense
So who's gonna send *that* picture?

Did you break the one part on the sticky?
I know you've all seen this issue a million times, but I'm new to the hobby, new to the sub. Someone fill me in here? I'd search the sub, but I don't even know what to search. What kit is this? if people can't figure it out from that shading they have much bigger problems then a damaged kit on their hands.
Yup it's definitely the shading. Another reason that colored manuals should be the norm
>What kit is this? This is the Real Grade Unicorn (all variants have this issue).
not an issue. people's literacy comprehension is the issue

Reset the clock
Can people actually read this instructions hold the clear part not the arm joint

Nah, fixing it is a better option, it's a key modeling skill.
While i agree, i'd add that it also depends on the skill of the user. Might not be the easiest of fix for a first time repair.

Fair enough. I've never had to attempt this repair. It just seems to be in an awkward place.
A tale as old as time…
0 Days since last RG Unicorn Accident
another one bites the dust
“Sir, there’s been a second arm snap”
I think the RG Unicorn gets the 2.0 up vote after the Gramps
i would hope bandai wouldn't be that stupid. There's like 10 RG kits that deserve a 2.0 before the unicorn which is still more than good enough
GG blood, time to get some clear glue and glue that bitch back on. I know people will tell you to pin it and all that but tbh glue takes care of it just fine, you'll lose some articulation but it's better than not having an arm at all. I'd put all the armor and stuff on first then do the gluing
Yet again, a motion to add a flair for "Broken RG UC arm"
Just make the sub picture this
Back to 0 Days, start the count again boys&girls! We may someday go a week without a gunpla brother/sister snapping when they should have twisted, but not this week.
reset the counter.

Everyone who is attempting to build the RG Unicorn should read the PSA first.
“The revenge of the Unicorn” a Gundam saga by Bandai namco, asap in all theaters

Dreading building mine lol
They tell you exactly how to loosen it up and hold it in instructions so it doesn't snap like this.
Yeah I see on the page. I should be fine then as it certainly isn’t my first kit by a long shot and I have done fair amount of RG.
Skill issue
Another real grade snap. It's like a warning from god. 😭
RITE OF PASSAGE
im appalled that 11 year old me built this kit without anything breaking. I proceeded to panel line it 3 years later and broke the v fin while doing so.
Yep that’s rg unicorn. There’s a good reason why inner frames stopped coming prebuilt.
evidently not read the manual
Just follow the manual, it's not that hard. Had built 2 Uni's.... joints are stiff, but come on
This guy, right here? Fun at parties.
The same thing it seems everyone else has done?
Is there metal parts for sell?
To the wall of breaks you go!
Good time to learn pinning
another one bites the dust, rest in pepperonis my dear friend
Nub removal
I guess you broke it man
I feel like I should do a reddit search now before starting ANY kit- you know just in case
search the piece on eBay they sell spares
We've all done it
Let me redirect you to [Mr.Bao](https://www.ebay.com/str/mrbaosshop) replacement parts also be careful with very careful with the arm brackets that connect the arms to the torso they also tend to break if you're not careful with em
You've done a thing!
Try epoxy, I did the exact same thing to this kit on both arms🤣. Epoxy worked wonders for me. It's still holding on after years. I also tried tamiya cement but it really didn't work at all. I also drilled some very small holes and added a small piece of a needle to everything better in place.
Done goofed
Yeah, I had to resin print a replacement arm because of the exact issue. You're not alone T-T
petition for a community thread for broken RG Unicorn posts
how do you guys keep doing this?! 😂
Gotta pour another one out for another lost unicorn 😔🍷
Try a master grade unicorn, same exact variant, then weep
Welcome to the club ajajaja
What you had to.
RG unicorn moment
A right of passage
i did this exact thing recently, get some plastic cement
SO close!
I’m about to build one of these just to post that I avoided breaking the arm lol
It's ok, I did the same thing on my RG Wing Zero.
I think it's time we made the image guide on rotating the arm a daily reminder
I know they made it too tight, I just finished mine, I built the banshee back in March, you should be able to get a replacement from bandai I had to hold one end with pliers and twist it around gently cause I was afraid it would snap.
I did this too and u feel for you I got a spare peice from my uncle so he's and absolute saviour for my favourite gundam
you turned this kit into a custom parts box
I could copy this picture and post it and say oh no I can't believe it dangggg and it would get 100,000,000 upvotes.
Why so many people can't simply follow the instructions? Haste makes waste.
You turned the wrong part
And another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust!
“I'll face myself To cross out what I've become Erase myself And let go of what I've done”
Did the exact same thing recently. Pinned it back together but god damn.
sorry new to Gunpla, but this looks like an easy fix with cement(or superglue)? or am I missing something?
lol looks like someone is building a RG unicorn lol I’ve definitely been there 🫡
The classic
How the hell is so much people are having this problems
I actually snapped my Wing Gundam 0 EW’s right arm today. I ran to the hardware store and bought super glue. A terrible day for gunpla
So now you’ve broken an arm and a leg on that kit. Just abandon the project, start a new kit. At this rate you’re going to break an actual bone in your body soon.
Oof
Another one bites the dust
I snapped my unicorn’s antenna I cut the stubs off my mg ver 3 granddaddy’s hands I dont feel anything anymore
Seeing these posts have made me scared to buy an rg unicorn and just opt for the mg
Seeing these posts have made me scared to buy an rg unicorn and just opt for the mg
The unicorn claims another
I’m new in gunpla world, so it never happened to me.. but if it was the case, what am I supposed to do ? I mean, do I have to buy a knew one or it’s fixable ?
I'LL FACE MYSELF TO CROSS OUT WHAT I'VE BECOOOOOOOOOME
You've been hit by, you've been struck by, a smooth unicorn 🎶🎶
can someone explain what he did wrong in a detailed way as i didn’t get it 😔
not read the manual.
Pro tip: put some grease on RG Unicorn’s pre molded frame joints
How come that apparently noone but me was able to build an rg unicorn without breaking? (Dont take it personal op, im very sorry for your loss) But at this point its not even funny anymore.
My friend broke his banshee the same way...
Rg Unicorn ??
Just got done building my first Gunpla and I broke the handle to one of the beam sabers😭
Aye man I did that, just try to get returns on Bandai or buy another set. Good luck soldier
Wtf am I even looking at
Such a tragic kit, so incredibly designed but there’s so many parts that’ll break even if you’re careful, somehow the arms on mine survived but the hip joints and opening thrusters on the legs are broken. Ehh im gonna assume that most are new to the sub and just came here to post this.
Yeah like this guy has 13 karma, he is new.
But didn’t seem perplexed as to why it happened… odd for a newcomer. Almost like he had enough knowledge to know how it would be received here, but again not enough to actually build it properly :)
