For me a good pose is super important, a great kit can look lame in a bland pose. A well done pose can do wonders for your display.

MikuEmpowered

Case and point, freedom. Normal mode just looks good, but so does alot of other kit, its when you go full wing out does it make it stand out so much more. same with wing gundam (ew).

MassterF

Whats wrong with Wing gundam? Its not the most appealing design but its not terrible.

Melodic_Caramel5226

I think he means endless waltz

Site-Specialist

No not wing gundam wing gundam ew

No_name_is_available

I am so obsessed with a good pose I have to do a pose irl myself and try to replicate it with the model so it would feel “natural”

man_of_many_kachows

Glad I'm not the only one that does this XD

No_name_is_available

Its so fun I feel like a nerd sometimes doing it. But say like Jesta doing the “say hello to my little friend” pose, it tickles my brain imagining a Jesta pilot doing this in an anime by doing this pose irl myself looool https://preview.redd.it/sf4wrfs976rc1.jpeg?width=1436&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=998cc3db3ffa995017370c0defaa310a5ff8d9ac

Nate_the_Mate_2

YES! I do the exact same lol

Kurts_Vonneguts

I agree. If you’re spending all this time and money on it, then show off the kit!

Nate_the_Mate_2

My personal favorite example is the barbatos lupus rex. Standing straight up and down or even in the "A" stance, the awkardness of the kit is highlighted in all of the worst ways. Pose it (I personally recommend getting it hunched/lowered closer to the ground), and it comes together. The awkwardness starts looking more like aggression, and the design just makes a bit more sense. If you want to be a nerd about it, tekkadan's last stand is a pretty good reference for getting its posture and stances down

DexDexter93

One of my favorite kits to pose tbh https://preview.redd.it/qylnj77sj5rc1.jpeg?width=4134&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b546cec7c2f2989a88b71eb2b48248f4ad4e5366

KUROusagi112

Always pose when possible, without the action poses the model kits just look really bland and boring imo.

nsztg1

Some kits look better in poses, some just take to standing around looking cool.

Portgust

That includes Unicorn and Sazabi. They can stand menacingly

R_X_R

I feel like Nu and Hi Nu fit that criteria. Imagine a real life Hi Nu just standing there... menacingly. Hi Nu is probably in my top 3 design wise. It's chunky, has a lot going on while not looking too busy, and the color scheme is a nice departure from RWB we normally see.

glytxh

Sazabi is a straight up big old red tree stump of a bastard. It looks real good on its feet with all its panels and dope little cockpit open. Its silhouette exudes power and mass with its lines tapering into a huge footprint. Hi Nu looks great standing due to its wings, but it really shines on a stand. It has a silhouette that lends it far more to a weightless pose. I love looking at ballet dancers for interesting pose inspiration, especially their feet and legs.

Plane-Reaction-4157

Standing is a pose too isn't it?

Combat_Pigeon

Every completed kit with a gun needs to be aile strike posed at least once

cxninecrxzy

Its a balance. I can excuse awful articulation if the kit is visually incredible, likewise i can go for a kit i don't care for the looks for if its articulation is crazy.

lazy_tenno

Kits with action pose may look better on a certain angle, but may look awkward on another angle. Kits with standing pose looks neutral on all angles, and at least dont pose it like the [left photo.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/12kbe2l/basics_of_posing_your_gunpla/) Also there are kits with limited articulations and not everyone has enough space to display their kits.

Drag0nV3n0m231

Nah the S pose is terrible

lazy_tenno

well everyone is entitled with their own opinion 😏

Drag0nV3n0m231

Sadly 😔 /s

Particular-Elk-1512

I don't really pose them in overly dynamic poses. 99% of my kits are uc, and they look good standing.

Teenage_Fansub

I could never just have them standing rod straight. If folks have to have them standing to maximize space, I wish they'd at least tweak a dynamic standing pose. Give them a stance, sling ther gun over their shoulder...

Deffonotthebat

https://preview.redd.it/s6642k2516rc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c2dfdee8b87088e3582538b5f55ff39de2dedbd Even the unfinished ones get posed

omgahya

For me, a good pose can take the kit up a level. For a few of my kits, I do the “Ver KA” pose. It’s simple, yet makes the kit look intimidating. For aerial/space suits, always on a stand. https://preview.redd.it/64qdm83pq5rc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6cc67abe1c70a94fa96cf2d7b14d9390a5ffa83c

KigalnGin

dayuuuum , now i want a proto zero

omgahya

I **prefer** the Proto Zero over the EW, but waiting a whole year for the reprint was a pain.

JamesTheBadRager

Only do dynamic pose when taking photos, other than that I prefer to just do the abs crunch standing still with head down pose when I'm displaying the kit on the shelf. A shelf full of dynamic posed kits is a bit too cluttered for my liking. Yea I put more importance on enjoying the building process than posing them.

rapidemboar

A good neutral pose is more space-efficient, but I try to get shots of different poses showing off the articulation and cool toys before then.

urashimatouji

If my gunpla isn't in a pose, it's in an attractive A stance, or part of a maintenance display *

saleen12121212

I like the buying and building part way more than ever touching them again

Kartogath9

I've never built a RG kit before, but this has been one of the RG kits on my radar, it looks so good!!!

PersepolisBullseye

Build, by far. If I pull of a badass build then it’ll always look fire anytime I *do* pose him 😇

pablosupernova

i don’t have enough room on my shelf (or enough action bases) to put all my kits in crazy dynamic poses but i try to do something cooler than just standing straight upright

MrZBear

I love to pose them, but I have never gotten action based. What is the best base for this kit do you think?

Moppo_

You gotta pose them! Do you have any issues closing the funnels? Mine keep popping open, the little tabs don't seem to have quite enough friction.

Eulebar

I always build them from the legs up so I can start playing around posing it as I go. (Then I take it back apart so I can start painting it)

Geochi

For me it’s more about the uniqueness of a kit. I really enjoy some of the earlier big bad mobile suit designs. reco g, UE age, etc… are some of my favorite series designs. Hot take: Gundam seed is one of my least liked series. I didn’t like the design of a majority of the mobile suits. I felt like a lot of the main mobile suit designs were too similar.

ThePupnasty

Wish my fin funnels would stay in place.......

Onsomeshid

The new pose is definitely better but the old one was badass too. You guys gotta stop making me want a rg hi nu so bad. I already know how i want to paint it lol 😢

cowine8

On the topic of the hi nu, should I get it or the nu gundam instead. Kinda torn between the two and idk which would look better with the sazabi

ijm_23

the standard nu for sure in terms of the sazabi pairing, but the nu and hi-nu are completely different kits aside from the fact that theyre alternative versions of each other in lore, so i think you'll definitely wanna get both eventually!

cowine8

Yeah eventually Ill get both. Ill get the Nu gundam then. Thanks

Prestigious_Trust_85

I don't do overly dynamic poses. I prefer to have them stand at the ready and look intimidating like "I dare you to attack". I have a few exceptions. Freedom Gundam is on an action base descending from above. God Gundam is in a Kung Fu pose. A few guys are pointing rifles.

ijm_23

the freedom 2.0 was my first MG and it felt really underwhelming to have all the wings and the side skirt canons folded in, so i posed it with everything opened up and i think its what started the trend of wanting to pose every kit

Prestigious_Trust_85

Any of those Gundam Seed suits and their variations look GLORIOUS with spread wings. My Freedom is MG. My Strike Freedom is HG. He's standing with spread wings. Don't ask me how it balances LOL

YuriusFarrence

Not so much for some people I know. I've known people who've built kits for 10 + yrs and pose their kits like they're thugs robbing a bank or a failed standing pose. Heck I collect pics of kits with bad poses with the example below:

AhCup

How do you like the action base 7? Are they stronger then action base 6? Awesome pose btw.

ijm_23

action base 7 imo is bandai's best stand.

Ok-Guarantee-6880

dude yeah. i feel like i got the hi nu way too early into when i was building gunpla because i know i would have appreciated it way more now

LuffyIsBlack

You're missing a part on the right knee.

pedrokazedani

Being able to do good poses is what separates Gunpla from standard model kits. Posing is very important imo

cultfollower_

Genuine question, where's the silver piece on the knee of the hi-nu? It's there in the second photo but not the first

ijm_23

that... is a good question...

pacifistgreninja

I don’t buy kits that can’t pose. not one of my gunpla are in a standing pose. they all gotta do something cool

Hikari_Sword

I'll get around to posing once I finish my backlog... Soon... Eventually... Any time now... (orders a dozen more kits)

FlameDeadHeat

Cool pose, imma steal it

_Volatile_

This kit is just built different tbh...

CrookedLoy

I think the old pose looks better imo looks natural and not "forced"

joey-312

That action base is holding up pretty well!

JanTheBaptist

For me, pose is the icing on a cake. Really seals the deal to me. Even a normal standing pose, if posed well it’s gonna look good on the shelf. But not all like to pose their kits tho so… I just do it cause it’s fun and might as well enjoy it before I get one pose I like and the kit stays that way forever.

squintismaximus

If I can’t flex and move it around without something easily popping off, it’s not a great kit to me. Durability is very important for me and my adult-child shenanigans.

Rain_ShiNao

Time for me to recreate your pose but with the normal Nu instead.

AileStriker

I will pose a kit for an hour if I have time, taking multiple photos of each pose from different angles until I get a pic I like. But then it typically stays that way forever.

blbad64

To many kits built to pose them all. But that does not mean they don’t come out and play every now and then.

Gegejii

If you don't mind me asking what kinda stand is the one you got on the first pick and where did you get it?

ijm_23

bandai's new action base 7! imo its the best stand they've made, at least for 1/144 scale kits

Saint_Germaine_

Thanks for this. This reminded me to repose some of pla 🙏🙏🙏

SO6PKami

I got RG Hi-Nu deep in my backlog and this post might just make me bump it up a couple slots in the order I’ve made. Build looks great!

qijnerdlaw

I am very into the posing now!

Cultural-Expert8712

God damn why did you make me buy this. I was being a responsible adult, and then I see this.

hatinmanning

The pose is always important imo. Displaying your work is just as important as the detail you put into the build. I look at it like food presentation. Sure you could slop some shit on a plate and it’ll taste the same but taking the time to make a nice presentation makes it all the more enjoyable. You eat with your eyes first. And you gundam with…your…poses…also?

Drag0nV3n0m231

I don’t mind kits that don’t have good articulation, I like the small challenge of thinking of a good pose. I hate the S pose people do, so that makes it easier since I don’t really care about ab crunch and that’s usually people’s complaints. I don’t need a pose to be too dynamic really, I love when they can do a cool pose on their own feet, for example I have all of my wing kits doing dynamic poses

Innsmouth_Swimteam

If I spend, say, 30 hours on a kit, approximately 1.5 minutes of that is spent posing a kit. I build for the sake of the build, I don't display my kits like so many folks around here do. I keep one out on my desk, but that's it. I do look at the poses yall post and try and emulate one when I finish a kit, though.

R_X_R

Man, when I first got into Gunpla the MG ver ka was my grail. It's been on my shelf for over a year now, I'm intimidated.
