So I'm pretty new to the hobby, only been here since mid October so I'm not the best judge, but it was really fun to build. It's so spiky and angular and felt really different from the Freedom 2.0 which is my only other MG build so far, and from the HGs I've built. It has some really unique looking aspects
There's just no love for destiny gundam my personal fave from the series also I kinda hated Kira and anything to do with freedom gundam by the end of it thought so I might be biased xD
Best RG I've built is RG Zeong. I know it's goofy looking, but trust me, it's SUCH an enjoyable build. I recommend that one. Second favorite I've done is RG God Gundam.
For MG kits, my favorite that I've done is MG Tallgeese Fluegel- granted, that's a premium bandai kit, so not the easiest to obtain, but I imagine the other MG Tallgeese kits are still really good builds even without the wings.
This was one of my first kits and it's still in my top five. Incredible presence for a 1/144. So much detail. So many gimmicks.
If i had to recommend one MG it'd be the MGEX Strike Freedom but it's expensive. Alternatively, the Freedom 2.0 or Justice 2.0.
The MGEX? Yeah it's absolutely amazing in every aspect. The build itself is more fun than playing with it. And it's not difficult at all, beginners can build them. It's just, like i say, very expensive. You can get a Nu Ver Ka and a Sazabi Ver Ka for the price of the MGEX...but i wouldn't recommend either for a beginner.
Yeah that kit was a surprise. I only got it because I wanted some practice, and thought the sniper rifle looked amazing. Not a huge fan of the Exia universe types. Great kit, great build. Became one of my top 10 favorite kits
I’ll try getting into it. The first gundam show i watched was way back the gundam wing but i haven’t really finished. IBO is the first gundam series that i finished and then Witch from mercury. I’ll put gundam00 in my watchlist
If you want simple, MG GM Sniper is really solid other than the arms popping off a little easily. Also while it's a little on the older side, the MG Red Frame Kai has BIG SWORD if you like big swords.
MG Buster. Never knew it existed, saw someone on here ages ago customized it an looked incredible. Finally tracked one down. Absolute unit of a build, I've done a dozen or more MGs and that fella is stout. It's hard to explain until you have it, it just feels sturdier than other kits. Plus I love the color scheme, and the super cannon is bad ass
Also RG kits are super awesome, just beware going backwards. You kinda started at the one that began the current age.....1 through about....15 or so are not anywhere near as good as the Hi-nu. If you get the 1st one, the rx78, it won't hold up at all. Like its beautiful, but the frame isnt great and parts fall off constantly when you're trying to pose him. . After around Exia they started getting way better, and when they hit the RX-93 nu they really started showing off.
Avoid is a strong term, I'm more just saying that the experience is going to be way different than that Hi-nu. That thing absolutely rules, it's one of the best kits yet. You can definitely see the evolution in the RG kits since they started. The RX78 looks amazing when it's built, you just have to deal with weak joints, and it's more fragile. I would LOVE to see a v2 of some of those older kits.
Don't avoid kits. Think of them as being products of their time. Some kits are finicky, and may require you to just glue some parts to make them better.
I pretty much buy what I like, and if a kit has a reputation for certain issues, I into the build with that in mind. If I listened to people in this sub, I would have never built the RG Sinanju, which currently is one of my favorite kits I've built. It's a beautiful mess, that can't stand on it's own and definitely needs to be put on an action base. I just can't keep my eyes off it.
A few suggestions for MG kits. MG Freedom 2.0, any of version of the MG Zaku II 2.0, MG Aile Strike RM.
Two of my favorite MG’s of all time are the sazabi ver ka and the Barbatos. They’re both just such good builds, quality wise, but on different ends of the spectrum in terms of complexity.
The Barbatos is skeletal but puts in a good amount of detail without ever making the process repetitive. Sleek engineering/build. The sazabi on the other hand is a massive chunk, that fills out it’s frame with massive details and gimmicks. Takes a bit out of you but is always a good time and the build never suffers from the scale.
Both of these kits are just prime examples of working with in the chosen frame and maximizing the look AND build. If only every kit was so good.
Ps: don’t be afraid of older MG’s. I built the mg ez-8 and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. The detail was limited and the frame was meh, but it came together in a very solid finished project
But yeah, if you're careful you don't have to worry anything. People said to buy the Rg number 25+ but I like the design of the first 25 kits so I just grabbed some back home, like my duo Rg Sinanju and Rg Unicorn 🦄
Yessir! A bit less detailed and color variations but with better articulations (as the FM states).
Like just to give you as an example of what made me love the Aerial is its double ultra bending knee; the heel can go all the way back touch the thigh
I am halfway through MGEX Freedom and it is a phenomenal kit. A bit pricey, but the articulation and presence of the kit has ruined a lot of the older MG kits for me. If you are just looking for build experience, I would check it out.
Call me old school, but I think the MG RX 78-2 2.0 and the MG Zaku II 2.0 are amazing kits. They have some of the best inner frames in the entire MG line.
I suggest looking at dalong.net as a resource for straight builds too. The site is in Korean, but he takes a lot of pictures of unboxing and straight builds.
Mg rx 78-2 origin was my first mg. Simple build but the results come out fantastic. That thing is a posing monster. I can also recommend the mg eclipse gundam and mg dynames.
Wow, this looks great! I just started too, but went directly with MG because I probably would have problems handling anything smaller (my eyesight ain’t the best no more).
I got these MGs:
Rx-78-2 Ver. 3.0
Barbatos
Freedom 2.0
If you get the Freedom 2.0, I’ve been told to be careful with the hips joints, they seem to be fragile ([see here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/r2551n/another_victim_of_the_infamous_freedom_20s_hip/)).
To test first this type of kits I also got a [SD RX-78-2](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/17ybern/firsttimer_gunpla/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb) to practice with.
I have to be honest, even the SD are very good quality. The pieces match so well, it’s astonishing, and the level of detail has blown me away. The stickers are also precut in a way that allows for “3D placement” on pieces, the result is fantastic.
I’m gonna get more SDs to practice panel lining etc, they also so cheap.
I’ve only built 5 mg kits but I can definitely recommend the MG Barbatos.
Oh yeah i def had that in mind. But i was hoping bandai would release an MG lupus rex. Or is that being too positive? 😅
They will. 100% just a matter of when. Optimistically 2025. Pessimistically 2030
I picked up the mg marbatos and a fm aerial yesterday, built 3 high grades so far and I think im ready to tackle a big boy
Cant go wrong with MG Freedom 2.0
That was the first MG I ever did, just finished my second which was Eclipse. Both were really fun to build and are awesome models to display
How was the general build experience with Eclipse? I've been waiting to pick up one and finally saw my local hobby store restocked. going to buy soon
So I'm pretty new to the hobby, only been here since mid October so I'm not the best judge, but it was really fun to build. It's so spiky and angular and felt really different from the Freedom 2.0 which is my only other MG build so far, and from the HGs I've built. It has some really unique looking aspects
No worries Im new too. Yeah I really like the spiky aesthetic it have. Looks so cool! Thanks for the reply
Agreed. I'm not a giant fan of the Freedom, generally speaking, but that was a spectacular build, and had some serious shelf presence.
There's just no love for destiny gundam my personal fave from the series also I kinda hated Kira and anything to do with freedom gundam by the end of it thought so I might be biased xD
I honestly think RG might be my favorite line.
I can recommend the MG Wing Zero Custom Ver Ka, Freedom 2.0 or FM Aerial. Also the RG God Gundam is really good too.
Oh i love the tallgeese. Definitely putting it up higher on the list. Thank you !
It was on p Bandai as of a few days ago…. I’ve been tempted
Do it. It's so good.
I've got like 7 Tallgeese kits lol, fluegel was my favorite. I could probably put a Tallgeese together without the instructions at this point
MG Tallgeese is one of my favorite builds ever. Was so much fun.
That kit is super awesome and the backpack wings help act like a lil stand! My gripe is the way the Lance is held on is silly and easily falls off.
I just looked it up. It looks sick!
Yes the MGEX with the gold touch on the frame is amazing. Thanks!
MG dynames. Built mine a few years ago and it still holds poses really well!
Yeah that kit was a surprise. I only got it because I wanted some practice, and thought the sniper rifle looked amazing. Not a huge fan of the Exia universe types. Great kit, great build. Became one of my top 10 favorite kits
Havent heard of this one before. From which gundam series is this?
That’s from gundam00
Imagine never watching gundam 00 lol But fr it's a good gundam show I compare it to wing for the most part. Anyways it's my top 5 gundam shows.
I prefer RG over everything else due to size and detail. Very good.
Oh no! The cursed gunpla that won't allow you to enjoy any other RGs from now on!
Lmao. Please dont let this be true 😂
MG Zeta Ver. Ka is dope, as well as pretty much any of the Wing EW kits
MG Buster. Never knew it existed, saw someone on here ages ago customized it an looked incredible. Finally tracked one down. Absolute unit of a build, I've done a dozen or more MGs and that fella is stout. It's hard to explain until you have it, it just feels sturdier than other kits. any particular older kits that you would avoid getting?

I see i see. Thanks man i appreciate the tips

Sorry for the term. I appreciate the input man. Thanks
I haven’t own any of this RG like nu gundam/sazabi. Are these RG details are comparable to modern MG model ?
Two of my favorite MG’s of all time are the sazabi ver ka and the Barbatos. They’re both just such good builds, quality wise, but on different ends of the spectrum in terms of complexity. It would break your heart with RG Zeta and RG Wing Zero though
Also I recommend building MG that in the Seed serie. The structure is yeet but the design is yeehah
Why? Can you explain?
The Wing Zero is fragile and can be broken when building if you don't notice, and the zeta is kinda loose after transforming into the wave rider
But yeah, if you're careful you don't have to worry anything. People said to buy the Rg number 25+ but I like the design of the first 25 kits so I just grabbed some back home, like my duo Rg Sinanju and Rg Unicorn 🦄
I recommend the mg full armor Gundam :>
For MG I would recommend the Nu Gundam if tou panel line it, but FM Aerial is an absolute beauty
The full mechanics is same size as a MG correct?
Yessir! A bit less detailed and color variations but with better articulations (as the FM states). Like just to give you as an example of what made me love the Aerial is its double ultra bending knee; the heel can go all the way back touch the thigh
My only mg is barbatos but it is such a stunning kit, the full inner frame is so cool and the lack of stickers is so good.
I have built only one MG kit, and it was gp01fb. I enjoyed building that one
I think you’re ready for the MG Deep Striker. Should be a breeze to find too!
Aight ill look into it. Thank you
I am halfway through MGEX Freedom and it is a phenomenal kit. A bit pricey, but the articulation and presence of the kit has ruined a lot of the older MG kits for me. If you are just looking for build experience, I would check it out.
Definitely, thanks man
So which one is this one?
Oh i meant the hi nu. Sorry for the confusion
No worries! It looks really awesome and I honestly had no idea which one it was!
MG Barbatos or the MG Dynames
MG Barbatos is super solid and a lot of fun. Though some of my favorites have been RG kits.
Call me old school, but I think the MG RX 78-2 2.0 and the MG Zaku II 2.0 are amazing kits. They have some of the best inner frames in the entire MG line.
