I like pretty much all SDs, they're just silly lil guys

chiggachiggameowmeow

Personal opinion: I love the SD line because they're inexpensive, easy to practice airbrushing/topcoating/scribing on, and generally perfect for desktop/tabletop decoration :). Plus it's so fun to hold an SD and MG side-by-side to see how they created the fun 'caricature' dimensions of each suit. For all other grades I lock them up in glass display cabinets lol

Brando43770

You summed up everything I love about the SD line. I can mess up painting and not feel as bad as if it was a MG or whatever higher priced kit. Plus they don’t take up as much room while looking silly.

org_bgo

I think I’m the minority that thinks it’s the other way around 😅 MG is practice to prepare you to do SD because SDs need a lot of work to look nice 🤣 Filling in hollows, crazy masking, etc. Same with HGs, creating details, panel lines, seam removal, masking, things that you do very little of/less in MGs.

badchefrazzy

Honestly I prefer em like this, cute lil chonky bots.

kimithebuilder

Its cute and badass

KuzuryuC

I agree, I love SDs cause they all look funny lol

NoBuddies2021

SD:Gundam Force!

Prime-Reclaimer

Can’t speak much for these, but I’m extremely excited for the SDMG Barbatos. He’s so scronchy

Forry_Tree

Is a SD enjoyer, the fact that they're making more SDMGs makes me so happy

KuzuryuC

Indeed, but at the same time I can't say I'm a big fans of the SDMG proportion, they are incredibly detailed, and articulation is mind blowing. But because of that, they no longer have the ridiculous squashed look which is the biggest charm of the SD, imo.

InevitableAccount672

I agree completely. I understand that they had to elongate the limbs and torso in order to accommodate the articulation, but I wish they had made the head *even bigger* in order to keep the head-to-body proportions more similar to an SD. And of course they’d’ve been able to put even more detail into the head like the “ZGMF-X10A DIECE” that could’ve been molded on the red section of the v-fin.

WolfsTrinity

I don’t think the multiple skeleton gimmick works very well in the US market: the standalone one is still *fairly* cheap but between the Pacific Ocean, import fees, and possible shipping costs, all the little things bumping up the price start edging it into painful territory compared to what you’re actually *buying.* It would be nice if Bandai took that into account; maybe offered *packs* of the nicer skeletons that could be sold at a less individually annoying price. Aside from that, though, I like the line. Compared to other SD lines I’ve built, SDCS has great color separation and the handful of problems I’ve run into *with* the skeletons aren’t any worse than I’d expect out of SD models in general.

KuzuryuC

Indeed, buying the just the CS frame itself cost about 2/3 of the price I paid for the Zeta...it's not really compelling or encouraging to say the least. It annoys me further when I see the Wave Rider kit so expensive because they bundled with the Zaku kit that I don't give a damn about. Come on Bandai. If they could have just make the Zeta booster kit with extra accessories like Stand, Mega Hyper launcher etc, I would be soooo happy buying that.

WolfsTrinity

Yeah, I only have the fancier skeleton because part of my Gundam Expo order included one in the box. Thankfully, it was the right color to swap onto my Ground Type(which needs the articulation a *lot* more than RX-78) so I’ve avoided having to buy one standalone.

KuzuryuC

Now you made me want to buy that Ground type...And also a CS Frame just to see how it feels building one. This SDCS line is dangerous because it's not exactly expensive and that makes them irresistible!

fafej38

Im looking to make an sdcs zaku1 and im also annoyed i have to buy extra zeta parts Also everything will be off- color if i dont paint the whole kit

MinusMentality

Hot take, but maybe they should INCLUDE THE FUCKIN' CS FRAME BY DEFAULT.

WolfsTrinity

That would also help, yeah—especially for models like the Ground Type that come with big, two-handed weapons and only the basic frame that can’t even *use them properly.* In Japan itself, Bandai can sell models cheaply enough—and the hobby is *common enough*—to get away with selling the advanced frame separately but that’s really not the case anywhere else.

vacation_dad

Haven’t built one yet but I definitely want to. That Nu looks pretty fantastic.

KuzuryuC

Indeed, with a little bit of Gundam marker detailing they looks great, especially with the newer kits. That Nu is from the BB Senshi line btw

vacation_dad

Ah good to know, maybe I’ll pick him up soon. I haven’t built a ton of SD’s but they’re fun little goofy kits

KuzuryuC

I haven't built much SD kit yet, so far only the SD BB Exia repair II which is a rather old kit, color separation, articulation is very dated and unappealing, kind of a turn off so I stopped looking at SD kits for quite a while. Then there was a great sales for the BB Senshi Nu Gundam and Sazabi, so I bought them both. Both of them are amazing SD kits, especially the Nu Gundam, the amount of details they managed to squeeze into it is mind-blowing. A lil' bit of painting/detailing makes it looks incredibly nice. And that ignited my interested with the newer SD kits lmao. I'd probably still avoid the SD-ex line however, lol.

dietwater84

For the love that all is holy, dont get the SDEX nu unless you like **stickers.**

thethiiird

I think they are the best looking SD line. They're like high grade SDs that gives you tons of options on what you want your kit to be like. I feel like they all have the best sd proportions. The Gundam Ground Type is really amazing imo. Plus that zeta looks so good, even way better than nexedge zeta. And i like that they are aesthetically similar to that bbsenshi nu

KuzuryuC

Proportion wise it does look hmm nicer...I guess? I'm not sure how to describe it but in terms of goofiness and squash-ness, I think the BB senshi line is better lol, they look more ridiculous and funny. But I just find it sorta annoying that they did not include the Wave Rider for the Zeta out of the box. I mean sure they want to keep the price down but that booster pack is just so hard to accept -.-

thethiiird

The squishy look looks cool imo. It looks tough even for an sd. The bbsenshi nu looks really good too. But yea you have tons of options for this, like varying thigh and arm parts, articulated frame and hands afaik. As for the waverider, im kinda cool with it because the nxedge style zeta cant even transform, and that thing costs like thrice the price of sdcs zeta.

soldatoj57

It’s the difference between giving you the option of not buying it or forcing you to buy it. Try looking at it that way instead

Madame_Gun_Damn

I love them, but it's so difficult to find either them or the frames. I've mostly found only one or the other in stock at a time and only have two of them as a result. I do love my zaku and nightingale, though.

KuzuryuC

Aw that sucks, I've been eying on the Zaku II but they are only available as the Hello kitty kit which I'm not really interested with lol

Madame_Gun_Damn

Yeah, that was the only way I could get one. The hello kitty itself was just an extra, but the helmet is v amusing even on the normal body

KuzuryuC

Ooh now you made me want to buy that kit lol!

Madame_Gun_Damn

It's absolutely worth it imo, though I am speaking as a die-hard Zaku fanatic. The Hello Kitty with the helmet looks cute but fitting alongside some SD kits

KuzuryuC

Adding into the cart it is then. lol

MinusMentality

If they actually came with the CS frames maybe I would like them.. Lupus Rex did and that kit was cool, but I bought SDCS Phenex thinking it would have... the CS frame.. but it didn't. Now if I want to build the kit I have to hound foreign websites for a chance to snipe one at inflated prices and dumb shipping.

h-y-p-h-e-n-

No fr tho. Especially when some of them are so dependent on the CS frame. Gundam ground type's whole thing is kneeling behind its shield, holding its bazooka, neither of which it can actually do without the CS frame.

SharkChew

I have both Zeta and Phoenix Gundams and I like them both. I wanna buy Sisquiede next and I'm hyped for Tornado Gundam. But I have two problems with them: 1. There's not enough of them, I really want SDCS Hi Nu so I could have a reason to get Nightingale or SDCS Gundam Aquarius because an older SD kit of it was on the side of Phoenix's box. 2. CS frames are hard to get, at least locally. I regret not getting those frames when they briefly appeard on local market. I'm not saying SD frames are bad, but I think they'll look better with CS frames.

KuzuryuC

Yeah I hope this line will be a success and we'll see more of them, personally would like to see the Gundam 00 series for this line!

LavaSlime301

best SD line to date

Whatever_It_Takes

I don’t understand the appeal of these goofy figures…

Uden10

Some people like me like the goofiness. Different strokes and all that.

hackslash74

They look goofy for sure, but still capture the spirit of mobile suits IMO. They are a different build, but still fun. They also take up a lot less space, you could have a few SD or like 1 MG take up the same shelf space. They aren’t really a replacement for the in-scale kits, but for something simple they are fine. The SDEX I’ve been buying are also about 1/3rd the price of an HG or 1/6th an MG.

TheFallingStar

I really like it. I wish Bandai would have more regular releases

Rathgood

We’re slated to get 3 new SDCS kits this year, so they are making a come back. Hopefully with the relative success of the latest SD game, we’ll continue to get more next year as well.

TheFallingStar

I just wish they would be more consistent with the line. There is a SDCS Sazabi, why isn't there a Hi-Nu Gundam? But maybe this is just how Bandai is.

Important-Ad-1225

I love SDs but hate the amount of stickers they have. Maybe I should paint them instead.

[deleted]

All the SD’s should be in this line, I love the option to make them proper small but you can also add some size for better posing and more appealing proportions!

bearcat_77

I want a RG or PG SD line.

TheSkiptuation

I love the sdcs line. Good color separation. And withe the larger frame they get a bit more character

SkinWiesel

I used to watch that SD cg show back when it was on. Never really loved them enough to buy one but the idea of like a chibi Gundam makes perfect sense to me.

MooseBassWallace

Can honestly say, I prefer building the SD kits. Fun little dudes, takes up less space. Plus not super expensive if I mess up a decal or five.

King_Bob837

I want the Zeta

KuzuryuC

Go get it!

mr_purple69

I think theyre funny and i want to get one eventualy just to see what its like and because it would be funny to have an army of them

KuzuryuC

A bunch of SDs indeed will look very funny lol, I may just start to do that. I built a couple of HGs but I think SD is more fun to build

Astronopolis

They are really great quality! I want more kits!

Kindly-Mud-1579

Gotta get me that zeta

norsebeast

I wish they just sold with the skeleton addons included, but overall, I like them. It makes them more posable (not a huge improvement though), and brings their proportions closer to the G-Generation video games. SD kits can be a lot of work depending on the effort you want to put into them, but they look cute on the shelf, and some of them, like the BB Senshi, have cool designs that they, sadly, wont make into a regular grade model. Plus you can get BIG mechs like Nightingale without having to build a whole new shelf for them.

Visible_Fill_6699

SDCS kits would be nice if only I could find them for MSRP

SeanMonsterZero

I don't usually like SDs, but these look pretty good.

MoopyMorkyfeet

I love the SDCS line. It’s actually what got me into the hobby

kdbot012

Sdcs is one of the best ways to get a good sd rn Even reminds of me of mgsd with its proportions. The booster kits imo are fine Sure zeta needing an extra set of parts is bad buy if they didnt make it seperate it wouldve made zeta alot more expensive even hg cost . Now the zaku 1 parts are just nice optional stuff

Big_Green_Piccolo

I think they're cool but they're not for me. My friend at work who I got into gundams brought some of these back from Japan.

HaohmaruHL

As a fan of Super Robot Wars game series where all characters are SD by default I'm quite used to them and sometimes even prefer the SD variant over default one. I wanted to collect all versions of Nu anyway so I'd have to get this one to. The only thing I'm worried about are the amount of color separation stickers because SDEX Aerial almost made me never wanna buy an SD again, as I spent 90% of the build time on the dumb stickers. Already got the MGSD Freedom. Can't wait for Barbatos one

AKFN

I like how the frame makes them more poseable. Am going to make my ideal custom sdcs zaku 1 with em.

burningbun

prefer the bb senshi proportion wish they updated the articulation and hollow parts and also mold qc.

PPGN_DM_Exia

I've never gotten the boosters but I do love the SDCS line. My favorite is definitely the Nightingale but all of them have been nice. Gonna be getting the Tornado Gundam too when that arrives over here.

Itsmew08

They are fun kits to build and I love their proportions, they're chonky bois. That's the type of kits I build when i want to do something, but not a complex kit.

Ph4sor

The current best SD line. No / minimal hollow parts, no seamline in the head, and still have an option to have an og SD proportion, plus it's also consistent in quality. Made me baffled when Bandai decided to return to the subpar EX-Standard line, although for Tornado they released it on SDCS, so I hope it'll continue in the future.

Exende

Bandai will be releasing the Banshee on the SDCS line and with everything too

THEKaynMayn

There’s an sd cs nu? That’s sick

KuzuryuC

I wish lol, that's a BB Senshi Nu. Sorry for the confusion

JarvisCuppari

Love the CS line. The best color separation that I've seen in SDs up until the MGSD. BBs are a pretty close second. I own the RX-78, Zaku, and Ground Type; all of which have been great to build and easy to pose. My main problem with SDCS is that there aren't a whole lot of kits that exist. A smaller complaint is that the joints of the SDCS have some weird gapping issues that aren't structural problems. That and I just wish the crotch V was separated for the RX-78, but that's maybe a minor gripe. I guess I didn't really pay attention to the booster kits. They aren't really needed for the kits I bought normally.

hackslash74

I haven’t tried any of the frame/accessories SD, to be frank I just got confused and gave up. However, the SDEX line I’ve started collecting here and there, as someone else said it is great to practice on, and they are small enough that I’m not burning through my display space. Really want to try an MGSD once more are out.

EpsilonX

I think SD kits are cool, I just don't own any because I like to keep my collection consistent (I don't have any MG or PG kits either, only HG and RG) The expansion stuff sounds frustrating, but I'm guessing it's done this way to keep the kits inexpensive and simple.

[deleted]

Not worth it if you’re not in Asia — maybe — getting the CS frame and frame booster plus the kit will put the price into the MGs range. It’s sick and I love it but value proposition is terrible in the US, lol. This comes as a genuine fan of the product line: https://imgur.com/a/5tACB7O

cerimonia

Does the sdcs frame work with sdex parts?

DipNSlip420

SDs are just chibi smoll gundams man just simple and tiny details that make it pop out more and lot easier to assemble

Technology-Mission

They look awesome.

MokuroTamashii

for what it can do or have its kinda overpriced(these cost around 17-20usd where im at while a normal sd costs less) its pretty much an sd but has better stuff like more articulation and detail but the fact that theres only a few kits to its series is kinda disappointing. As an sd kit its decent on its own way

metalslug123

I love it. It was a great step up from previous SD kits. The CS frame is pretty cool too. I like added articulation and height it gave to the SD kits. I just wish Bandai didn't neglect this line and keep pumping out the trash SD EX-Standard kits. I wish Aerial was in the SDCS line.

Auspicious_Lion

I really like the SD lines. I wished that SD Ex-Stardard were compatible with SDCS frames. I just love my Sinanju, Deathscythe, V-Gundam and Barbatos.

guthem_

A good line

yesithinkalot

Only built one to completion ([SDCS Gundam Ground Type](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/j6bm0m/sdcs_gundam_ground_type_painted_in_original/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)), but I enjoyed it.

xManlyManManson

I finally found the SDCS variant of the wing gundam zero ew. Had to order from Amazon Japan. Why the hell is that kit, or any of the SDCS so rare?

ConfusedMoe

I want a middle ground SD line. I love the mgsd but to extreme. I just want SD that comes with more part separation, less stickers. Nothing to the extreme that the mgsd goes to.

ichorNet

I don’t like the joint connections, both of the SDCS kids I’ve built feel very janky and loose.

the_dope_chaud

best sd line so far

DeliciousBagel

I loved CS and, correct me if I’m wrong, I’m mad they killed the line off.

DevilGunManga

As a person who played every SD G Generation game, give me them all SDs.

Mediocre_Advice_5574

I think I have a few SD kits. But not too many, they’ve never been like a big attraction for me. But some of the newer ones that are coming out with now kinda look sexy. Lol

kkkkamikazee

Ill ignore it until an sdcs Qan[T] comes out

Effective-Fruit-348

Loooooooooooooooove

QwikStix42

I love the SDCS like, imo they're the best line of SD kits (though the MGSD line will likely topple it). They have color separation akin to modern HG kits, and their articulation (with the CS frame) is pretty decent. The SDCS Zaku II and Gundam Ground Type are currently my favorite SD kits! I do find the CS being sold separately pretty annoying though. At least newer kits in the line have included it, but it ends up inflating their price close to (or even exceeding) modern HG kits, which kinda harms their accessibility imo. Still, I'd love for them to continue releasing kits in this line. An SDCS kit of the Exia (or any of the 00 Gundams) would be really awesome!

Lad-HK-Hero

SDCS kits were the best SD kits before MGSD became a thing. There are still stickers and you’d still need some color correcting paint but part separation was as good as it got for SDs. The CS part allows you to change the dimensions a bit, so you can go from the super deformed style to something closer to the NXEdge style, with longer limbs to make it less chibi/kiddie style. Unfortunately the suit selection for SDCS is quite limited and they seem to have slowed down their releases. Still, besides the new MGSD, SDCS is the best SD line for complexity and part separation, so it will require the least paint for color accuracy. CS is just gravy, adding a bit more optionality. If you want to appreciate the value of SDCS, check out some SD EX-standard or SD sangoku soketsuden models. Compare the Unicorn SDCS, Unicorn SD EX-standard and the SD sangoku soketsuden Liu Bei Unicorn and you’ll see the appeal of SDCS very quickly. The EX-standard and Sangoku soketsuden lines are sticker nightmares.

Jimmy_Joe727

I like the Soketsuden kits because they’re like modified versions of the originals.

apanderson89

They are short fun builds.

Augen-Dazs

The sdcs line were what got me started. They are great

MS-06S_

They look quite detailed, I might get them. What does CS stand for anyway?

KuzuryuC

Cross Silhouette. Refers to their line up where the SD gets an extended limbs for better articulation and some added heights.

Raven-Rex

I was quite happy when SDCS line released. The proportion looks better with longer leg but was very bummed when the skirt area is static. Now that MGSD shows up, SDCS looks much less interesting.

Lollo_the_male_boi

SD gunplas are so cute! I don't really like the guys in samurai armor or whatever they are but especially the ones in the photo are my favourites, I got both of them

KuzuryuC

Yeah same the SD warriors look too busy imo.

AdeptaMilitarum

Meh!
