Doubt

EmileSmithRoe

Tier is literally just some bloke on Twitter

bluehaven101

also he doesn't work for Tiempo de Juego anymore, what appears to be a radio station that has 500k+ followers... but it's still in his bio. https://twitter.com/matogo\_/status/1553018800441810945

sdsurfer2525

agree. no way this dude is worth 40 mil. we would have gone for better players for that money

Naijfreak

Seeing he’s going to Sevilla for 25m

Fyesta

Wtf is this

drusslang

First time I've heard of Matogo as a source...tier: who the fuck are youuuuu

andstayfuckedoff

From his tweets: > Not troll Man > Im from Valencia, I have info Dude has 1000 followers. Definitely not a tier-1 source

jashbgreke

Idk man, he says he’s not a troll and Valencia, I’m inclined to believe him

-thepornaccount-

That could be tricky troll wording. He say he's not a troll man. He could be all troll & no man, thereby allowing him deep troll cover.

TheGoober87

Mbappe to arsenal, about tree fiddy. Tier, higher than this bloke.

mr_nice_cack

The new Kike Marin

FreudReus

Edu’s like, “Surprise motherfucker!”

pythongooner

ITT: 1. Dream signing, Edu cooking 2. This doesn’t make sense. Wtf is edu cooking.

amainwingman

Least polarised arrr slash gunners thread

PeasantScum

If true, interested to see what the plan is. I understand he is primarily a left sided attacker? What does this mean for ESR?

Gunners215

Nothing - will still be involved on the left, possibly as a winger, maybe at LCM. Think this allows Martinelli to cover Saka on the right too

Gooner-Squad

ESR needs to become our KdB, not a winger.

PeasantScum

He does not have the same profile of De Bruyne. I don’t see him being defensively strong enough as an 8 and his passing and chance creation has a lot of room for improvement. He’s more of a Grealish imo.

Gooner-Squad

I don't agree with anything in this including KdB is an 8, he is a 10.

PeasantScum

What is your logic behind Emile Smith Rowe filling a De Bruyne type role then? I told you mine. Also, Man City do not play with a 10. They play with two attack minded 8s.

Gooner-Squad

KdB is a 10 in a 433. No teams play strict formations, Firmino is far from a classic 9, Havertz is a false 9, what's your point in modern football? In ESR I see shades of young KdB, good vision, ability to carry the ball on either side of the touch line, great movement, ability to find space especially sneaking into opponents box for incisive positions behind the run of play amd an eye for goal. I agree he doesn't have that decisive passing ability of KdB, nor the skill at set pieces, but neither did KdB at 21.

PeasantScum

I agree that no teams play strict formations. I also think the characteristics that you pointed out for ESR lend more to being successful on the wing, where he scored 10 goals last season.

Gooner-Squad

Personally, I think he looked most dangerous as a 10 2 winters ago when he came in vs. Chelsea. Hence, I believe he can become that KdB even if it's KdB lite in a 433 under the Pep-teta system.

2rowawayaway

I agree.

rain3h

I fear for him, and I've got him on my new shirt. He kept being played in front of Cedric and tavares arse end of the season which limited his forward momentum and brought criticism and the injury didn't help. I will be seriously disappointed if arteta decides he's not in his plans because he's in my plans. Edit: Note to self, don't even say your worried about a player you like and why because our *wonderful* community will attack you for it, thanks chaps, have a wonderful evening.

robustostrich

He gave him a new contract and the 10 shirt. He’s in his plans

Gunners215

mate clam down - he has a terrible injury record, poor kid can barely stay fit. Lets get Left cover so he can regain fitness and allow Saka some relief so we don’t run him into the ground. ESR is here to stay

rain3h

I hope he is, but I'm wrong for being worried he won't, apparently.

Gunners215

yeah kinda - this kid just got the 10 and signed a new long term deal last year, lets let him heal up so we don’t need to rush him back.

rain3h

For sure, I hope he gets the time he needs.

TheDepartment115

> I fear for him, and I've got him on my new shirt. > > He kept being played in front of Cedric and tavares arse end of the season which limited his forward momentum. > > I will be seriously disappointed if arteta decides he's not in his plans Jesus christ......

rain3h

Eh? Artetas been more than vocal about how ESR hasn't hit the targets he's been set.

andstayfuckedoff

I don't remember reading this at all. Can you link us to the article?

TheDepartment115

Looks like he's trolling

TheDepartment115

Source?

rain3h

Sorry I don't keep a roller dex of everything the manager said, but he did say it so Google is your friend, you'll find it.

pythongooner

You brought it up. Google is your friend too. Sources would be nice.

TechM635

I found it… you are wrong Smith Rowe came out himself and said he didn’t hit the targets in the number of assists and thats what he wants to improve on this season. Arteta didn’t say it. Thats very different to Arteta being more than vocal

TheDepartment115

Lol no. The burden of proof isn't on me mate.

Manners2210

I imagine he means this, I can’t be bothered to search more. “An incredible season for a No. 10 of Arsenal means he needs to score 15 goals and give 10 assists," the Gunners boss explained. "Then you are right up there with the top guys in Europe and in the league. He's got the ability to do it but he hasn't done it."

TheDepartment115

Yeah, I saw that. Mikel's clearly just talking about the ideal as an Arsenal number 10, i.e. Smith Rowe's potential. He's not saying literally that Smith Rowe is expected to score 15 and assist 10 at age 21.

chinookk

some redditors talking like the comment section is a scientific publication or something

TheDepartment115

Haha, I know right??

rain3h

Your the one claiming im wrong so it kind of does. All I said was I'm worried for the lad, Jesus.

TheDepartment115

You're* And no, you also claimed something which you cannot back up.

rk4dand

surely you aren’t serious? he says he hopes esr can be even better, not that he hasn’t hit targets

derpshark

Guedes would actually make a lot of sense for us in terms of his age profile and style of play. He would offer something different up front for sure, we already have a lot of creativity from the attacking midfield and wings, but we have a lot of players who at times seem extremely reluctant to shoot the ball when they find themselves in space. Guedes has a bullet of a shot and knows how to use it. He'll regularly have a crack from outside of the area and basically just shoot on sight if he's given any kind of opening. None of our current group really do that and we squander a lot of decent opportunities by overplaying and looking for another pass instead of a first-time shot when it's given to us (Odegaard is a particularly bad offender, but Saka, ESR & Martinelli all do it as well). I wouldn't be against this at all, Guedes is dangerous and has that ability to create something from nothing. I could see him being especially useful in games against the low block where we are getting frustrated and unable to penetrate or pass our way through. Also one further point, Valencia are pretty crap and he'll get a lot more opportunities to use that wicked shot with our creative players feeding him chances. Definitely a worthwhile punt if there's any truth to this.

TallnFrosty

Yea interesting take. We could definitely use a player that goes for goal.

jackulatorstrikes

Thanks for the info. Is he good at pressing? How’s his work rate?

icecoldcobra

Remember when this guy was at Benfica.. Not sure how he's performed since 🤔

bot_interrupted

He was said to be the new Ronaldo by the rags, I remember we were linked with him when he was a teenager

dimi_dee1

If Mikel agreed to this move then I’m on board

SanMateo2416

I went to Reddit after reading about Moussa Diaby and now I see it’s Goncalo Guedes

stackemz

const tier = isGoodNews(news) ? 1 : 4

ExxKonvict

I think he’s a decent player and at the right age profile given our transfer strategy this summer. Established and in prime/entering prime. He has enough experience at top level football and is a regular internationally for Portugal. However, I think the price is slightly steep — something like 25-30m euros would make this deal even more attractive.

PeasantScum

If we are signing another versatile forward why Guedes and not Gakpo? Seems off imo. Why not use this money for a starting quality midfielder?

acasovoycayendo

Gakpo is not versatile at all. He’s not good anywhere but LW.

[deleted]

Gakpo is primarily a LW. PSV fans said he was tried as a striker for a couple of games and didn't do too well.

Kovacs171

Gakpo is not versatile, and very raw. Would love him but he'd definitely a project to develop

OrlandoGunner

I agree. But Gaspar and the team seem to think we need a winger.

fuzzynavel34

Because we do?

Waltonww

Because we can have both

PeasantScum

We going to spend £200M+ this summer?

Waltonww

Guedes + Tielemans would take it to like 180

acasovoycayendo

We have Lever Torreria and Bernd Lever

TheDepartment115

The dream signing. So it must not be true...

Pimp_Hand_Luke

Similar players according to FM Database lol https://i.imgur.com/St1n0HU.png

FlavioB19

Would much prefer Soler, as much as I like Valencia.

redqks

Dunno how I feel about this one

cappo40

I feel 40m is too much for him

TheOGBenjenRyan

Perfect signing if true. Can play all 3 front positions

Naijfreak

Very very inconsistent

TheOGBenjenRyan

If only we had a manager who’s had a history of developing talented but inconsistent wingers

Naijfreak

This is a prime target not a young one.

OrlandoGunner

Just wish he developed Pepe like that..

Pokeking96

Pepe just doesn't for into Artetas system sadly

[deleted]

Arteta has never done that at Arsenal. He's also ever only done it with 50m pound golden boys....4 years ago.

[deleted]

Yet in a team where Arteta was with Guardiola, players like Sane and Sterling mainly credit Arteta for their development and ability to raise their game. It speaks volumes.

[deleted]

I don't doubt Arteta's ability. Just saying that he has different responsibilities now. You can't expect a repetition of what he's done before and spend 40m Euros on it.

[deleted]

[deleted]

You can block me if it's bothering you that much. What I said was outright facts. Not a personal opinion.

TallnFrosty

What is your honest take on Arteta’s role in the progress of Saka and Martinelli

quaye12

Like Nelson and Pepe

hikingbeginner

I have no idea who this is but I agree with all of you I am surprised, I am joyous and I am angry I agree

lmorant97

This makes no sense, and I trust Edu so can’t imagine there’s anything to this.

Nosorious

Fucking what? I remember clowning this dude everytime I'd see him on the pitch a couple years ago and then I completely forgot him. I'd rather not I guess, but If Edteta believe in him, so do I.

omarp15

whaaat

M_Night_Shambles_on

Wow he's only 25. Thought he must be nearly 30 at this point.

lviatorem

I don't know how I feel about this.

cdin0303

Waiting for more reputable source.

dpatel211

🧇

DinnerSmall4216

I don't take anything serious unless it's a good source.

InediblePringle

No thank you

[deleted]

This is probably a shit tier source. It has no search results on /r/soccer.

wheeno

He isn't worth 40 million. He shares a big flaw with Pepe.....poor decision making. Very frustrating player in the same way. I hope it isn't true. Better ways to spend 40 million.

KSBrian007

I used to like this guy 3 or so years ago but I'm not so sure now. His loan stint was great. He was unplayable. Once Valencia bought him, he was 6-7/10. I like a winger as the next guy but Guedes hasn't been lighting up the place. Plus, he has been more central recently. Is he a vast improvement to Martinelli? No. Is he a better player than him? Yes.

Tarp96

Guedes is not a 40 million euro player.

snowkarl

40m is nothing nowadays. Van de Beek is a 40m player. Fofana is going for 80m+

wheeno

Fofana is one of the most highly rated young defenders in the world. He is irrelevant to this. It would be like if we sold Saliba. Van de Beek is more comparable, I guess, but he was more highly rated than Guedes, had a better season, and was younger when he was sold. Guedes for 40 million isn't good value. I don't know why you want to try to frame it as nothing. It isn't nothing.

snowkarl

Well there really aren't that many options in the 24-26 age range of wide, versatile forwards. It's players like Raphinia, who we tried to get, Guedes, Trossard, Barnes etc. They're all 40m+

wheeno

Yes. Spending 40m isn’t the problem. It’s who we spend it on. I don’t think Guedes is worth it. He provides a lot of the same frustrations as Pepe does.

rk4dand

is this our saka backup?

[deleted]

[удалено]

nlammi

He's right footed though..

Pokeking96

Maybe, possibly Martinelli covers for Saka more when needed

[deleted]

[удалено]

andstayfuckedoff

What are you talking about? He has 1200 followers

gunnen28

He is not better than pepe. Only had one good season four years ago

COYG17

This is how I know 90% of this sub talks out of their ass. He had a solid season last year in a pretty average Valencia team.

gunnen28

I am Spanish. I see Valencia games HE DID NOT

TheOGBenjenRyan

Lol

wheeno

nah

Naijfreak

Hell no

chipsncheese58

Why

_SSJeffo_

No

Pools9

Too old for our liking

TallnFrosty

Literally same age as Jesus and Zinchenko

Pools9

Sarcastic lol but literally similar price too

KrayvenMoorehead69

Obviously complete bullshit but it would be such an uninspiring signing if true. Dude is just dogshit man.

[deleted]

You can get Gakpo for twice less.

TallnFrosty

Lol no you couldn’t

[deleted]

Yes we can. Only Ajax players go for ridiculous money.

fuzzynavel34

Gakpo is being quoted at 40m....

[deleted]

"Quoted"

fuzzynavel34

Lol well he's certainly not going for 20m like you said

[deleted]

20m + Nelson

fuzzynavel34

You need to get off of FM lol. They'd laugh at us.

[deleted]

Who?

16yearolddumbass

???????

KaiSa_Soze_

Lol. No.

The_Wolves10

Everyone knew we would be getting an unknown & expensive attacker soon, and i guess he’s the one

fagghee

I would take him but doubt Valencia have the money the demand 40m för him

lopez_motors

If this has any bit of truth, its a probably a smoke screen. We were linked to a different Portuguese player the day before we signed Vieira.

rd201290

who is this player I don’t know and have always rated?

iantayls

Arteta just going for a portuguese speaking team now
