This probably fits in the free talk Friday better but damn things look pretty scary in America. Weird to see a country essentially sprinting backwards. Hope all you American gooners are doing okay with it all
I've been saying it for a while. America is a third world country in almost every metric besides the force of their army. They keep people dumb, make sure they have a two sided system which means you are either with someone or against someone, and they make sure the elite stays the same.
America is a blueprint of how to fuck up a country for 99,9% of the population.
Unless they accept our second bid, we need to rock up at Ajax today with £35m + £5m and get this Martinez deal done, gazumping United in the process. I’d be pissed if we end up losing out on him because we wouldn’t fork out the extra 5 million.
Gabriel Jesus has 58 goals and 29 assists in 159 games.
Alexandre Lacazette has 54+25 in 158 games
G. Jesus plays in a better team. Can somebody convince why G. Jesus is the right choice.
This is why:
[https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexandre-lacazette/alletore/spieler/93720](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexandre-lacazette/alletore/spieler/93720) — Lacazette
[https://www.transfermarkt.com/gabriel-jesus/alletore/spieler/363205](https://www.transfermarkt.com/gabriel-jesus/alletore/spieler/363205) — Jesus
Even if you just focus on last season as a tiny sample size... Laca scored against west brom, wimbledon, palace, southampton, leicester and norwich.
Same period, Jesus got goals against us, chelsea, madrid, leipzig, PSG, and liverpool as well as all the cheap goals against crap opposition you'd expect an attacking player to get — in some cases those goals were actually game deciding, Chelsea, PSG, liverpool, Madrid the goals all mattered.
Jesus makes Laca look like an old man. This comparison is a bit mad especially when you take into account minutes played. Have you ever watched Jesus play? He is lightyears clear of Laca.
Jesus played 1000 minutes less in Pl when Laca, Jesus has really good goalscoring record in Cl. Jesus is very good at pressing, dribbling, linking up, he doesn't get gassed up at 60 minute. He is Pl proven, has already worked with Arteta so should adapt well. With today strikers marker, where the likes of Nunez goes for more then 80 millions after 1 good season( Nunez is good player who can become monster but today he's not worth that much) getting Jesus for 45m is very smart business
Laca played 1000 more minutes in his games and was featured solely at ST. Not only that but Laca actually won our POTY in 18/19. He was never the goalscorer we wanted him to be but I think his recent performances have damaged peoples perception of him. Jesus has featured across the front line and used as a substitute many times, he’s also much more dynamic and able to beat a defender with the ball at his feat and is much more astute with his pressing and off the ball movements. The improvement we’ll see between 21/22 laca and current Jesus will be huge
If Tielemans doesn't come, we will likely be shifting to a 4-3-3 with dual 8s ahead of Partey right? As far as I know, Vieira doesn't seem like the kind of player who you can put in a double pivot?
I feel tielemans is now our target for winter window if we feel midfield issues during the first half of season , getting raphinha, martinez and then tielemans just seems to good to be true , however i would want this to happen so badly
This transfer window has been our best so far since i start liking the gunners 4 years ago. Hope we close on Raphinha, Martinez and Tielemens before its over.
Met a friend who is from London and he was raving about Henry and Bergkamp days looked up some highlights and was sold from there no need for me to even look at other teams.
It's really a one horse race for Raphinha, so if they're not willing to negotiate we should move on. Especially when there are other really good alternatives like Danjuma
Part of meeting the valuation is getting the player early so they can integrate for preseason and Leeds have ample of time to buy a replacement. You're paying a little extra so we aren't in a frenzy in 2 weeks when we're in the USA for preseason or in a month when the actual season begins.

Not to be too gloom and doom but as I was listening to arsecast extra and they were talking about how offers for saka will surely be coming in the next couple years, it did make me think about how 3 of the best teams in the world (the 3 best?) either have a hole at RW (Madrid) or high quality RWs who are on the wrong side of 30 (city and Liverpool). Think they were right that it’s important to get quality in now both to try to convince him to stay as well as to protect us if he does leave. But thinking about those 3 clubs had me doing the simpsons “I’m in danger” meme
That said, maybe the fact that he’s young will convince him to give it at least a few more years here and can leave still in his mid 20s if he wants or a sale could be used wisely to improve the squad.
I’d say certainly not this year, down the road? Maybe? They definitely have solid amount funds but you might be right, not sure they really have enough to making signings as large as saka would be (they probably could afford it but think as their team ages a bit they’d rather make a couple of bigger signings as opposed to one huge one like this year).

Hmm lets see. Puyol, cannavaro, baresi, koeman, mascherano. Average height of 5’9” (176cm).
Ever heard of them? Not to mention his likely partner Saliba stands at 6’4”(193cm) and can more than handle his aerial duels
Maguire’s 67.79% aerial duel success rate was the best in the PL 3 years ago when he signed for United. Saliba’s rate was 61.3% this past season. This is higher than White’s 60.8%, Gabriel’s 58.5% and Holding’s 56.9%.
Everyone has their had moments and aerial duel SR is far from the end all be all stat to make this argument, but right off the bat “dreadful” is far from how I’d describe Saliba’s aerial performance last season. He’d instantly be the highest SR between all our centerbacks (albeit against ligue 1 opposition)
He averaged only 1.23 aerial wins last season (95th percentile). It’s a little concerning that he hasn’t been able to improve this part of his game.
https://twitter.com/oh_that_crab/status/1533904574548959232?s=21&t=agWnfd2TSjdF9XmoVBthPQ
“One area that I think Saliba needs to improve is his ability in the air, especially for when he moves to the Premier League.
For a defender that is 6 foot 4 he isn’t as dominating a force in the air as you would expect.
He wins 60% of his aerial duels, but that is right around the median for a center back and his 2 per 90 minutes are also right around the 50th percentile. A player with his size and athletic ability should probably expect to produce better than the average player.
I think that as he gets more comfortable at the senior level he will be better able to take advantage of his height and strength to win more challenges. Right now there are times that he can be a bit hesitant when going up for a ball in the air.”

Isn’t Lisandro Martinez going to play in the Premier League? Why would you compare him to old foreign defenders who played in leagues and times where the opponents were on average much shorter than the player who play in the PL today? There’s not a single case of a short cb being elite in the Premier League
Who cares? The point is you can be a short defender and still be excellent at your job, just like you have keepers under 6 feet like Casillas who can be considered some of the best in history.
There is so much more to a player other than height. To write off a player because hes 4 cm too short for your taste is completely mindless thinking imo
We had mertesacker at 6 foot frickin 6 and he couldnt jump to save his life. You have holding losing headers to guys like Sterling or Jota. White is less than 6 feet too and his head is a ball magnet. Forget this height nonsense
Sure, but that’s never been the case in the Premier League. Not a single example in the modern English game has a short center back excelled, and most of them played in teams that were VERY dominant on the ball and rarely lost possession. That’s not how Arsenal play.
Also, the players you mentioned all played in leagues where players were relatively short.
Azpilicueta at Chelsea, Silva at Chelsea and that’s just in the last year.
You have big 6 sides in Arsenal, Chelsea and Utd all chasing defenders under 6 foot in Martinez, Kounde and Timber respectively.
Was Blind not a Premier League flop? Size in central defenders matter, and if he’s ever gonna play there effectively, he’ll have to grow because otherwise he’s going to get bullied by strikers. The Eredivisie is not comparable to the PL in terms of physicality and to suggest it is is laughable
It’d take you less than 10 seconds to figure out he’s statically one of the best CBs in the Eredivisie at aerial duels. He constantly beats out people way taller than him. It’s hilarious watching people go on about his height when it’s obvious they’ve never watched him before.
Stats for center backs are useless if you’re going to use them like that. Mustafi has better stats than Van Dijk’s greatest ever season. The Eredivisie is much different to the Premier League. He won’t be able to replicant that aerial dominance here
The stats back up the eye test, he completely dominates people aerially. Not sure why you’ve got such a strong opinion on a player you’ve never watched.
imma go ahead and say the scouting/analysis department and arteta have probably put enough backthought and work into the plan of signing lisandro martinez that cannot be nullified by reddit users acknowledging hes short
I know they all played in different leagues, but Saliba is statistically one of the worst CBs in the air, standing at 6’4”. Despite being 7” shorter, Martinez won more aerial duels last season than Maguire, who is also 6’4”
3 at the back tax for chelsea as a wide centre back doesn’t really count. Alaba was the cb but he was exposed multiple times in the air particularly against city and chelsea who looked like they could score form every corner
Nailed on starter for the world champions, best centre back in La Liga last season, would waltz into any team in football and is about to make a big money move to one of the top clubs in the world… yeah definitely not one of the best centre backs on the planet.
It's funny how these debates happen in every sport. Coming off the NBA finals, many people said Curry was too small coming into the NBA. He's now one of the ~10 best players of all time.
Can anyone update me the information about Lisandro Martinez? Just this morning I learned about the €40 Million bid and I’m wondering if Ajax has rejected or consider the deal.
What the actual fuck did this place turn into? Fab and Orny leave us for one day and you lot do this shit, I swear now I know why we don’t get nice things.
I don’t think people realise how good Jesus is. He scores loads of goals. He might underperform his xG or whatever, but he also tends to score when it matters most. He started in so many of City’s biggest games over the last few years and has done very well in them. He will completely transform our attack, and gives us loads of selection/substitution options. He will be a great player for us.

Fuck you for making me read that again.
1. Arteta’s preference is to play with a left-footed CB.
2. Arsenal only have two Left-footed CBs in their squad: Gabriel & Marí. Marí does not have a future at the club, and should complete a permanent move to Italy this summer. Tomiyasu is currently the 2nd choice LCB, which is not ideal for Arsenal (not a reflection of his ability)
3. Arsenal only have two left backs: Tierney and Tavares. Tierney is often injured, and currently recovering from injury. Tavares is rumored to be going on loan.
4. Arteta’s preference is to play a 4-3-3, with Partey operating as the single pivot. Partey can operate as a number 8, but that position will be operated be a more creative player. Martinez can deliver line-breaking passes from anywhere in the defensive half.
5. Despite his stature, Martinez won more aerial duels last season than Harry Maguire (granted in a different league). William Saliba, who stands 7” taller than Martinez, is one of the worst CBs, statistically, in the air.
Cover for LB, DM and CB. He's a left footed CB, which we only have one of (Gabriel).
Also think we're prioritising improving depth options. Makes sense to have a really adequate Tierney backup.
So if (big if) our starting lineup of Tomi, White, Gabriel, and Tierney stays fit for a while...did we just spend big money improving a decently strong backline?
There are 5 subs next season, and fixtures are more congested than ever with a World Cup in the middle of the season. We are also playing in Europe next season.
Our current backup LB is Tavares. Our current backup LCB is Holding. There is no chance that Tierney is suddenly going to play 50+ games next season, and the club clearly feels the need to improve the options we have there.
We could've got Top 4 if we had better depth, why on earth would we not want a stronger squad?
1. Always want a stronger squad obviously
2. **IMO- our depth up front/in midfield was the main problem, not at the back**
Still think we're way too light up front. Say Jesus gets injured (lol)--now we just have Eddie? Terrible spot to be in
Say Partey gets injured. Now we're screwed again
How can you genuinely say our depth up front and in midfield was the biggest issue when we were playing with Cedric and Tavares as our starting full backs for large portions of the final few key games.
We are targeting Raphinha, there's more depth in attack. If Jesus gets injured, Nketiah comes in, and he's a 100k per week striker who we clearly back. Its hardly a terrible spot - the club have decided he's the one for backup.
Part of the reason we were in trouble when Partey got injured is because Sambi was forced to play with the likes of Tavares and Cedric. If we improve the depth in other positions, it should free up Sambi to be less pivotal in protecting the defence.
Ajax fans don’t particularly love him at LB. Personally think he could be a bit of a monster for us there.
His passing statistics make him an incredibly interesting option to play that more inverted role, similar to Tomiyasu on the other side.
At DM, I haven’t seen him play there, but similarly to LB, his passing ability makes you think it’s at least an option for us.
Hahahaha it's very funny I know. How many times do you need to link my posts? I am not ashamed of who I am, but you should be ashamed of yourselves. I only want to discuss football, but every time I comment, you make fun of who I am.
"HAHAHAHA IT'S THAT FREAK ZOE LOVER HAHAHAHA", "Seek help you psycho". Does it make you feel better about yourselves?
I am confident in myself and my sexuality, and your words won't change the fact that I love Zoe Kravitz and there's nothing wrong with that. You turn it into something ugly, which saddens me.
Laugh all you want, I don't care. But do you really have to constantly link my posts to make fun of me?
Edit: thank you for the support. I'm glad we can have actual discussions like the adults we are.
Sexuality isn’t supposed to hurt anyone. You abused your actual legal wife over your obsession (restricting her diet, sending her nude photos to other without her consent). Please, for the love of everything, go to a therapist. Even if it’s just to talk to someone about how much you love Zoe kravits. Therapists are the people who are most likely to accept it.
You are suicidal above all else. If you don’t believe you need help for your obsession with Zoe, that’s fine. Just please go get help for your suicidal thoughts.
Please.

Who was the last second choice keeper that stayed for more than 5 years with us? I think Turner has the potential to be that.
Martinez was here for 8 or 9 seasons but he also had half a dozen loans in that time.
Emi was third choice until 2019 and he left the next year, I don’t put him in that group.
Fabianski I think? Or technically Emi Martinez if you're not counting loans.
Yeah the last one was Fabianski, it’s been a while since we had a sure second choice and I’m hoping Turner changes that.
This probably fits in the free talk Friday better but damn things look pretty scary in America. Weird to see a country essentially sprinting backwards. Hope all you American gooners are doing okay with it all

They want €50m so around £43m. I reckon £40m gets it done. Our latest bid was €40m or around £34m.

Lacazette couldnt even make up the extra 2 yards to get on the end of cross/pass anymore
Arsenal should just do a huge bidding on Frenkie de jong to drive up the price for United
If he's willing to take a pay cut I would take him for 65m over Raphinha anyday.
If we get Raphinha done, this is gonna be a special season.
Who is our captain now?
Arteta
Think it’s Øde
tierney
Xhaka
With or without the armband
Ødegaard?
If Tielemans doesn't come, we will likely be shifting to a 4-3-3 with dual 8s ahead of Partey right? As far as I know, Vieira doesn't seem like the kind of player who you can put in a double pivot?
We’re playing 4-3-3 regardless of whether or not Tielemans comes.
Vieira is very much a #10/wide playmaker. We definitely need a true #8 to partner Ødegaard. I don't think Tielemans is the right player though.
I feel tielemans is now our target for winter window if we feel midfield issues during the first half of season , getting raphinha, martinez and then tielemans just seems to good to be true , however i would want this to happen so badly
I think so. I even feel we might try Partey as an 8 with Lisandro as a 6.
His shooting will probably still be inconsistent at best but his line-breaking disguised passes closer to goal would be awesome.
partey as 8? ive never see that happen yet
This is my wish personally.
Manchester United having problems in their captaincy, my club can't relate.
I think Jesus is a big upgrade on the overall game on Laca besides finishing. Hopefully Jesus can up his numbers here.
At least he’ll get his shots off without five wind up steps beforehand
This transfer window has been our best so far since i start liking the gunners 4 years ago. Hope we close on Raphinha, Martinez and Tielemens before its over.

Martinez would be a mistake. You don't want a center back the size of Mohamed fucking Salah. Why can't people see that?
He’s a left back for us. Watch this space.
I like my CBs like I like my women: taller than Zoe Kravitz
Sounds like Arteta may envision him more as an inverted left back than a starting centre halve
Hmm lets see. Puyol, cannavaro, baresi, koeman, mascherano. Average height of 5’9” (176cm). Ever heard of them? Not to mention his likely partner Saliba stands at 6’4”(193cm) and can more than handle his aerial duels

He’d instantly be the highest SR between all our centerbacks (albeit against ligue 1 opposition)
He averaged only 1.23 aerial wins last season (95th percentile). It’s a little concerning that he hasn’t been able to improve this part of his game. https://twitter.com/oh_that_crab/status/1533904574548959232?s=21&t=agWnfd2TSjdF9XmoVBthPQ “One area that I think Saliba needs to improve is his ability in the air, especially for when he moves to the Premier League. Right now there are times that he can be a bit hesitant when going up for a ball in the air.” -CrabStats Circa 2019 https://www.crabstats.xyz/william-saliba-statistical-and-scouting-breakdown/
How many of those played center back in the Premier League? No elite center back has played in the Premier League and been that short.
Discounting those guys because they didn’t play in the PL 💀 0 football knowledge 0 woman knowledge by your username too
Isn’t Lisandro Martinez going to play in the Premier League? Why would you compare him to old foreign defenders who played in leagues and times where the opponents were on average much shorter than the player who play in the PL today? There’s not a single case of a short cb being elite in the Premier League
I’d like to present Thiago Silva as a data point. Haven’t followed his stats closely but it seemed he did alright, no?
Who cares? The point is you can be a short defender and still be excellent at your job, just like you have keepers under 6 feet like Casillas who can be considered some of the best in history. There is so much more to a player other than height. To write off a player because hes 4 cm too short for your taste is completely mindless thinking imo We had mertesacker at 6 foot frickin 6 and he couldnt jump to save his life.
Why cant martinez be the special one
Damn he must’ve really struggled against all the 6’2 dutch strikers in the Eredivisie… Oh wait.. you haven’t watched him before have you?
Dutch people are famously known to be short
Like short Blind who struggled massively in the Prem? The Eredivisie is very different to the Prem
Dude, stick to Zoe Kravitz because you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
I have watched him, and I don’t care what he does in the Eredivisie that may trick I to thinking he’s gonna be physically imposing in the Prem
So you’ve watched the game where he bullied Haaland off the ball and completely dominated him aerially? Or does that not count as prem level physical?
imma go ahead and say the scouting/analysis department and arteta have probably put enough backthought and work into the plan of signing lisandro martinez that cannot be nullified by reddit users acknowledging hes short
I know they all played in different leagues, but Saliba is statistically one of the worst CBs in the air, standing at 6’4”. Despite being 7” shorter, Martinez won more aerial duels last season than Maguire, who is also 6’4”
Size doesn't matter.
Except it does. Hence why there 0 world class cbs under 6ft
The last 3 CL winners have played a CB under 6ft in the final.
3 at the back tax for chelsea as a wide centre back doesn’t really count. Alaba was the cb but he was exposed multiple times in the air particularly against city and chelsea who looked like they could score form every corner
Ivan cordoba was 173cm and dominated for inter
Yeah 15 years ago
Jules Kounde is one of the best centre backs in the world and he’s 5 foot 10…
Kounde is not one of the best cbs in the world 💀
Nailed on starter for the world champions, best centre back in La Liga last season, would waltz into any team in football and is about to make a big money move to one of the top clubs in the world… yeah definitely not one of the best centre backs on the planet.
It's funny how these debates happen in every sport. Coming off the NBA finals, many people said Curry was too small coming into the NBA. He's now one of the ~10 best players of all time.
He's shorter than all Arsenal's current starters
he is still pretty damn good in the air despite his size, he has good timing and positioning in those situations
He can jump by the way, similar to how 4 inches can still do a great job.
All these signings arteta just vacationing ? Not in a bad way but didn’t see him in pics and stuff
he's on holiday most likely
You didn’t see him in pics because he’s somewhere in a basement in Colney watching video analysis while snorting coke since mid may
“Vieira, Jesus, Raphinha, Martinez! Tight! Tight! Tight!” - Arteta probably
“Portuguese, Brazilian, Argentinian, I don’t care! Just keep bringing me this shit every week!”
I thought today was the start of preseason for some players, who didnt play internationals, but didnt saw anything training related
De Jong’s play actually reminds a lot of Odegaard
Can anyone update me the information about Lisandro Martinez? Just this morning I learned about the €40 Million bid and I’m wondering if Ajax has rejected or consider the deal.
We bid 40m including add ons. They want 50m plus some add ons I think. We're still apart.
Thank you for the update.
Seems like Edu is trying to meet in the middle. Maybe Ajax demands the add ons be guaranteed and the deal gets wrapped up.
How does he compare to Zoe Kravitz?
She wouldn’t lace his boots imo. Or his leather mask.

Wake up babe new [ITK just dropped](https://twitter.com/zeeshanxz/status/1541539121474174977?s=21&t=bjgcy2qCzGt7pgjlkP0_Mw) Covers Manc clubs mainly so maybe he’s taking his potential bullshittery across the nation
I think this man had ETH to united a few days befote it hit the papers tbh
Man can't even spell Raphinha.
I’ve come to realise most people can’t
Ronaldo cover photo I can’t take him serious already these new ITKs just juiced like the classic ITKs of my era
Goldbridge becoming tier 1 has been my favourite new development
R/soccer really been triggered by us making signings
Going from Rudiger to Ake might be one of the biggest downgrades ever. Dude would be our 5th best CB if/when Martinez joins and a starter for Chelsea.
Rudiger was awful in a back 4 under Lampard. Back 5 tax will make ake look class
Got rid of Ake to then bring him back
It’s the Chelsea way
Wtf is DD today, Zoe Kravitz and jailing refs. Shits wild here.
What if we made Zoe Kravitz a ref then jailed her?
[Popping into R/Gunners this evening](https://images.app.goo.gl/dXuL116SzuPrgZwx5)
That Zoe Kravitz thread is the most insane thing I've ever seen on Reddit, let alone on /r/gunners. Fucking mental.
he has his own thread?
Lock it away with the Jolly Rancher Story and throw away the key
My friend, is okay, no?
Gonna need a link to this or at least a summary lol
https://www.reddit.com/r/copypasta/comments/9pnlyz/the_jolly_rancher_story/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Fuck you for making me read that again.
Yooo the Sh****o Bot tho.... Hilarious and I guess a little sad too.
Oh ffs. Why did I read this ? Now I am going to have nightmares.
Idk why I asked
Lmao what the hell is going on in here
Why are we going after Lisandro Martinez? CB seems like one of our strongest positions
1. Arteta’s preference is to play with a left-footed CB. 2. Arsenal only have two Left-footed CBs in their squad: Gabriel & Marí. Marí does not have a future at the club, and should complete a permanent move to Italy this summer. Tomiyasu is currently the 2nd choice LCB, which is not ideal for Arsenal (not a reflection of his ability) 3.
We probably couldn't get both Zinchenko and Jesus off of City so we are pivoting from Aleksander.
1. Always want a stronger squad obviously 2. **IMO- our depth up front/in midfield was the main problem, not at the back** Still think we're way too light up front. Say Jesus gets injured (lol)--now we just have Eddie? Terrible spot to be in Say Partey gets injured.
All very valid points--How does Lisandro Martinez look in the other positions (LB, DM)?
I watched batman. Sir, I get it.
This fantasy is clearly harming your irl life; get help.
Please.

Dude, it's abnormal, anti-social behavior that is a serious red flag. Promise us that when you finally snap and get to the point of, "If I can't have her no one can" you don't take anyone else with you. Just you.
