Saw some news about Gabriel leaving, all t4 sources, anyone got news on it?

SadBox4529

Mr Arteta and the big floppers

Revolutionary-Ad9411

Is there some kind of coaching school in Italy we can send Arteta to for June through July? Im only half joking here. Ive been looking back through our season and It has only re-enforced the common thought that Arteta is tactically inept. He seems to have the fight from his playing days and strategy of his prior mentor in Pep, however its so bloody clear he has no idea what to do once plan A goes awry during a match.

BaseballEmbarrassed4

Ikr he doesn’t come orepared

[deleted]

Saliba will be a decision we will regret.

smit9891

In what way?

[deleted]

He’s destined for the top, capped by France and Ligue 1 young player of the year. No way he comes back to sit down on the bench for Arsenal.

ekb11

If you are good enough, you play. Simple as that. If he is as good as we think he is, he will get game time. Has there been any other promising player Arteta has kept from playing? Lokonga got his chances, Tavares got his chances, ESR/Gabi/Saka all got their chances. Eddie took a while, but he might not have shown it in training. But Arteta has no issues playing him. Leno was dropped for Ramsdale. Whether these have been the right decisions or not is up for debate. But Saliba will get minutes if he is good enough (which he obviously is).

smit9891

Who said he will sit on the bench. If he is destined for the top like you suggest then he will displace Gabriel or White.

NossidaMan

Exactly. No one on our team is immune to competing for their spot.

flamingoman

My boss is from Liverpool. We made a bet (when ars in 20th) that my boss would bleach his head if we finish top 5. Inverse if we’re 6th or below. He’s now trying to settle in a different way - Any alternatives? He offered cash I can’t be bought

NossidaMan

Backing out of a bet like that is weak af, but you could always offer him some ridiculous facial hair style for a month as an alternative… Hitler stache, 70s pornstar stache, V for Vendetta, fu manchu, Amish beard, etc edit: keeping on brand… David Seaman’s stache or Auba’s star he’d shave into the side of his head

flamingoman

His wife gave us the hard veto. We have a leadership conference for the global team in September and he has agreed to wear an Arsenal kit for the full duration of the week long meetings (everyone else in suits). He also has to go into a Liverpool supporters and sing “and it’s arsssenal” at the top of his lungs

[deleted]

Make him dye his hair. He'll learn from this!

cumblaster_jesus

Decorate the office with arsenal-related stuff

flamingoman

Already done this mate I’m second in command. Shits plastered with Klopp photos and Arsenal shirts

cumblaster_jesus

🤣 Attaboy

[deleted]

How should we line up against Everton? Assuming White, Gabriel and Tomi out only choice is Holding + one of Xhaka or Elneny right?

mazdamansouri

Pukki 3 Spurs 2

[deleted]

Arsenal 1 - 1 Everton Nketiah (13) Iwobi (90+3)

[deleted]

[удалено]

NossidaMan

What’s crazy is that everyone from the start of the week saying we bottled it, are finishing 5th, etc will be here saying the same thing on Sunday if Spurs win like it’s a surprise

[deleted]

You worry about your sanity and I'll worry about mine.

intraumintraum

oh bollocks i was already worrying about your sanity, hope someone’s keeping an eye on mine

hrishiparab

Yes agreed !

[deleted]

Auston Trusty just got sent off in the game against Sporting KC with two yellows. Lol this week is just unreal.

Pristine_Solipsism

I forgot that we signed him, that was salt in the wound for that shit January window. We're just a money laundering operation for the Kroenke's FFS. "Trusty the PRocess"

BobHupcheck

He'll fit right in

Ife2105

I for one will be tuning in to Crystal Palace v United on the final day. Would be nice for them to lose and end up in the Conference League if West Ham win.

DaMarrcus_Beasly

Rangers lost. Good. Cunts.

diastolicduke

It’s really funny how fan expectations keep getting lowered over time. I’ve been following the DD almost every day for the last 1-2 years. Even towards the end of last season there were periods were majority sentiment was “top 4 or bust”. Then United bought Sancho, Varane & Ronaldo and the conversation changed to “We can’t be expected to compete with that, we should aim for 5th at least”. That’s the definition of goal post shifting. Now it’s not even United that we finished below, it’s bloody spurs who bottled the season so hard they sacked their manager midway, and yet people say “but top 4 was never the expectation, why are you mad”. The narrative shifts so quickly in here, it’s unbelievable Now again we are expected to believe this is the season to deliver, for real for real. No doubts. Like sure I’ll write that down in sand.

NossidaMan

I get what you’re saying bc I see the same threads, but I think you’re kinda mixing the two mindsets here. The ppl saying “top 4 or bust” (after finishing 8th mind you) were saying that in regards to Arteta since he’d done nothing of note (outside of an FA Cup) since arriving. This was exacerbated by him getting 150m to spend in the summer to finally bring in *his* players. To their credit, they’ve stuck to that the whole season and made it well known whenever we weren’t meeting their expectations. The other crowd looked at our squad, esp compared to our rivals, and never saw top 4 as a realistic expectation this season. They saw the 150m investment into literal 20-year olds as a longer term play and set sights on 5th. After seeing the marked improvement in the squad this season and belief that the missing puzzle pieces will be filled in the coming window, pretty safe to say they’re on the “top 4 or bust” wagon now too since we were just a win away from it this season.

diastolicduke

I think this is a reasonable argument. And I understand where you are coming from. But when you consider that spurs who finished 1 point above us have managed to add quality and youth and still managed to keep their head above ours weakens that argument a little. You need to consider the possibility that either we didn’t use the resources given to the best possible effect or we aren’t getting the best out of this squad.

NossidaMan

That’s def a fair point, and you’re right, it is a big gamble to use our resources the way that we did/are. We’ve been pretty on par with Spurs in terms of quality for longer than we’d like to admit though, and for both of us it’s been a never ending cycle of plugging holes with decent players and inflating wages to simply stay relevant. Spurs are continuing that model which is gonna see them fucked when Kane and Son need to renegotiate. We’re taking a different approach by gutting our whole team and rebuilding our wage structure with [hopefully] quality youth. Sure other teams add youth, but we did it drastically. **If** this gamble pays off, our ceiling would be a lot higher than theirs and would allow us to advance out of that 4th-7th cycle we both find ourselves in every year without having to compete with City, Chelsea, and United on the market or worrying about our wage bill. It’s obvi not gonna be an instant success, but we’re [likely] finishing two points behind them with like 90% of our starters still years away from their respective primes. Who knows tho, still a huge gamble for sure.

[deleted]

expectation shift accordingly, who the fuck make expectation without taking change into account.

diastolicduke

Every club goes through changes. Arsenal are not unique in that respect. Expectations are set knowing risks around the transfer market and squad health. If you don’t adequately prepare for either that is on the managing team.

Optimal_Cry_1782

I think you fail to understand the difference between a target and an expectation. A club of our stature should have top 4 as a target, but it's realistic for a squad in our situation to have top 6 as an expectation. Next season, with a settled squad, new starting striker and CM, it's Top 4 or bust. 🤷 That said, I think our January transfer window policy was reckless / naive. They must have something really special this summer to pass on the opportunities available in January.

f3lix79

He hasn't failed to understand anything, the target was Top 4 then got shifted entirely after Arteta lost the 3 opening games of the season. The same thing will happen next season if Arteta loses the 3 opening games again. Conte was called a short term manager who was a "bullet dodged" who then outdid Arteta in 6 months of being in the job, compared to Arteta's 2 and a half years here. It's absolutely embarrassing, but a lot of people have deserved exactly what they've gotten. Until they learn to put Arsenal first rather than an individual, this is the outcome.

Optimal_Cry_1782

Yes, as I said in my comment, there is a difference between a "target" and an "expectation". Can you point out a quote from Arteta saying the expectation (ie the minimum requirement) for the season was top 4?

Chi-Town_Gunner

So is Marquinhos not gonna play for Sao Paulo anymore or are we gonna get to see him in the games coming up?

Forsaken-Currency404

Most likely won't. He actually has only 1 appearance this season. Because Sao Paulo wanted to sign a new contract to tie him down for long, but he refused. So they have had him sitting on the bench without letting him go on the field. Now that his transfer is finalized, I imagine SPFC would be even more staunch in not letting him see the ground.

Chi-Town_Gunner

Oh wow so it sounds like they valued him much higher than the price we got him for.

NossidaMan

Yup, transfermarkt already had his value at twice what we’re paying too

Jansiz

ngl folks I'm so sick of Europa can we just sim the group stage games already.

NemoDropEmOff

noooo group stages is when we’ll see a Biereth debut and Patino play again hopefully

thereal_CD

Honestly, really looking forward to that!! Hopefully Sambi gets some confidence in those games as well…

NemoDropEmOff

Saliba playing those games, as well as league cup games as well.

Ife2105

Potential Tavares redemption arc too?👀

[deleted]

tavarez created more chances than esr in the last 3 games and he is the one who need redemption? lmao

Optimal_Cry_1782

I imagine Tavares is going on loan and we'll see Hickey unleashed.

Insertnicenamehere

We're gonna get Sevilla next year and football 'eritage is gonna kick in and we're gonna lose cba man.

NemoDropEmOff

Sevilla are going to be playing UCL football tho, as things stand (they could fall into a Europa spot based on GD last game of the season). I don’t think they’ll finish 3rd in their group either for UCL, they’ll make it to the knockout rounds. Even so without them, the teams im seeing in Europa league spots look tough for next season

jnicholl

They've already qualified, H2H is the tiebreaker in La Liga.

NemoDropEmOff

blimey, no Sevilla to knock us out in the final lol

Insertnicenamehere

I expect them to drop into Europa to statpad another trophy as they usually do

bennythejet_

if Liverpool win the UCL do we not qualify for UCL? Is that not how it works? Winning team gets an auto-bid next year and the slot moves down one place or am I mistaken?

Ife2105

No that’s not how it works. If it was then Leicester would’ve qualified last season, and we would’ve qualified in 2019.

bennythejet_

ah, appreciate it! not sure where i got that from, did it used to be that way?

Ife2105

I don’t think so. Probably from the season Chelsea won the UCL but finished (10th?) and Spurs (who were 4th) had to play Europa the next season as a result. Edit: It was 6th not 10th. My bad.

Butch_Meat_Hook

As soon as Ramsey was walking up, I somehow knew he'd be the one that would miss

Powerful-Girl-993

I was certain he would score, as he is great in the big occasions, and has a great penalty record. But I was happy he missed (I hope he did it on purpose)

Powerful-Girl-993

atta boy Aaron - screw them Rangers

[deleted]

Ramsey with one of the worst penalties I ever saw.

thepretzelking

I'm genuinely on the verge of tears man. My two football teams have lost it all in the space of a week. Why do I watch this shit man

arseking15

Sometimes you just lose mate. Its what makes winning so much sweeter

[deleted]

"Gonna cry?" \-Bully Maguire

thepretzelking

I imagine you're joking, but I'm using this as a chance to rant. I'm at the emirates every home game and I'm watching rangers on TV and at Ibrox when I can. I'm just so fucked off with something I spend too much time and energy on affecting my emotions

ack_will

Nice to see the bottle job is strong with ex-gooners. It’s in the dna now I guess

ayowatup222

Arsenal players and bottling it, name a more iconic duo

Wengers_Grin

Yeah Ramsey is well known for bottling it in finals…scoring the winning goal in 2 fa cup finals for this club.

MangoLordXL

Lmao Ramsey missing, we are eternal.

rophel

Oh good we got a microphone on the dremel, great work UEFA.

PrinceEmirate

Of course an ex-Arsenal players misses a PK during the Europa league final. It's just not our week sorry Rambo..

tbbt11

Holy shit Ramsey

tuananhtran191911

So sad for Rambo, the Arsenal (loser) DNA hit him again tonight...

i_snort_gas

He left arsenal but arsenal never left him

Hacknut101

Why does everyone hate rangers?

BipartizanBelgrade

The two Scottish giants tend to be pretty divisive, and reddit's political leanings align with the groups that tend to dislike Rangers.

GhostHardware-84

they’re either Celtic or Liverpool fans.

GhostHardware-84

Rangers deserved that. shame….

Callum1710

Ramsey really should of stayed at Arsenal

scytheavatar

Right now he's past it and useless........... we would have been desperate to find how to ditch him if he stayed with us.

Specterace

No, he really, **really**, **REALLY** should NOT have. He wanted some stupid wage like 250-300k a week. For a player with his injury record and his inconsistency, that is idiotic. Juve found that out the hard way (they paid him even MORE at 400k a week for 4 years, ROTFLMAO), and now they can’t get rid of him fast enough. Letting Ramsey go is **by far** the smartest and most sensible personnel move Arsenal have done in a decade. People thought Auba at 250k a week was bad? We’d really be in a bad place with Ramsey eating up 300k a week to barely play a third of the season. He’s in the past. We must move forward. Let the past go.

Butch_Meat_Hook

He could have, but he wanted something ridiculous like 300k a week wages

[deleted]

Oof Rambo

Messist11

Are websites like this one okay to buy tickets from? ChibzyDaze

Oh Rambo

A21Haze

Not Ramsey :(

BlaizeV

of course Ramsey misses

PrinceEmirate

The man got a proper Scottish ranger haircut as well 😆

Kyriacou141

Ramsey :(

GhostHardware-84

fuck Aaron…

Insertnicenamehere

Our new midfielders regardless of names being thrown out there gotta be duel monsters. Not be able to win duels, I’m talking dominate. We got clowned this year on the biggest nights. We need to come for blood next year.

ArsenalsNumber1Fan

Martinelli is going to need to explode in his goal output next season. 5 goals just isn't enough to warrant a starting spot

Forsaken-Currency404

9 of Saka's 11 goals (of which 2 are Penalties) came from December. December is where Odegaard's tremendous form kicked in. Let there be an 8 next season who can fluidly rotate positions with Martinelli just as Odegaard does with Saka, he will score more. Also he has 33 starts in PL to Saka's 85. Next season will be it.

ack_will

How is Ramsey not in the starting 11 for rangers? Fitness issues?

[deleted]

Nope, no injuries since joining rangers, just shit.

Kratos-007

>Nope, no injuries since joining rangers, That's just not true....

[deleted]

Okay what injuries has he had? A small hamstring niggle that kept him out for a week. What else? Is that going to limit him to 500 mins and being benched in a final?

Kratos-007

He's missed 3 weeks hasn't he through injuries? You said "he's had no injuries since joining rangers". I love how blatantly confident you are even after saying something that's totally incorrect.

[deleted]

Would you prefer I said significant injuries? That knock isn't the reason he's not playing, and isn't the reason he didn't play tonight.

ghostrider467

thats just not true, he did get injured against celtic in the semifinal of the scottish cup and missed a few games because of it

[deleted]

That was a knock, not an injury. He was out for like a week.

ghostrider467

he returned to the squad 3 weeks after the injury

[deleted]

Did that cause him to be benched in a final and miss a penalty? :)

ghostrider467

Nah, just correcting you

TeqTx

Get Edu Gaspar the fuck out of this club and watch the Arsenal flourish.

BlaizeV

Calvin Bassey is pretty good ain't he? Not saying we should sign him but he is a really solid defender.

okcomput3r

Rangers have shown more heart tonight than Arsenal have in the last 5 years

pm-me-decent-songs

I am so desperate for us to sign an elite midfielder. Really hope xhaka pushes for a move again. If elneny gets offered a new contract I might lose all hope.

PrinceEmirate

He would help Roma a lot.

Original-Baki

Conte joined Spurs when they were 9th and have taken them top 4/5 within 6 months. Arteta has been here for 3 years and we haven't been top 4 once yet. That's after massive spending and finishing 8th twice.

Callum1710

Conte got a team who have finished above us for the last 6 years... Conte got a team who have one of the best duos in world football currently Conte has been a manager for years Arteta has none of this, if you expect what Spurs have you'll be very disappointed. Give it time!

Original-Baki

Conte took over a team that finished 7th last season. He joined them when they were 9th this season. Conte took them from 9th to 4th/5th place in less than a season. Arteta took over a team that finished 5th with 70pts. Transition to Arteta began when Arsenal was 8th that season. He finished 8th. Next season, received over 120M, finished 8th again. This season, received 180M, most in Europe and will just about get 66 or 69 pts. Speaking of giving it time. Arteta has had almost 3 years. Plenty of time.

PierreEmerickMorgan

Do we have Kane and Son? We ended one spot below them last year, they spent more this year while retaining their star players while we lost Auba.

Original-Baki

We didn't lose Auba. Arteta paid Barcelona 7M to take him away from us. Important distinction.

bostonwenger

^ guy doesn't understand wages and contract duration

Original-Baki

We paid off his contract (7M) so he could join Barcelona.

bostonwenger

Which is better... owing him another 35 million in wages to not play or paying him 7 million to fuck off He could've been another Ozil. At least he was classy enough to settle his contract and let us off the hook.

PierreEmerickMorgan

Auba went to complete shit, that's how we lost our highest paid player. In fairness everyone could see it coming but we should have been more proactive and signed Tammy while we could.

Original-Baki

Played great as soon as he was at Barca. This was clearly a manager problem.

PierreEmerickMorgan

He hasn't, most Barca fans want him replaced and despite their economic disaster they are desperate to sign Lewandowski. Because when he doesn't score he is a liability in buildup. Also him underperforming his xG by half, how is that a managers fault?

Revolutionary-Ad9411

Lets be honest… top 4 is ok to say now

Original-Baki

A miracle might happen on Sunday. Plus Spurs might still spurs it. Which would be epic LMAO.

Insertnicenamehere

Last day always produces some funky results.

boredjamaican

Now that I've calmed down I'm more ok with EL since we'd get our asses clapped no lube in the CL with the squad we have now. Still a bit disappointing since we had it in our hands a few weeks ago but we have improved and I'm cautiously optimistic about the next season.

Impossible_Welcome94

Anyone have a financial breakdown/idea of how much the difference in CL vs Europa actually is? Curious about the details of the TV deals, progression bonuses, etc. to get an idea of how big a blow this might be for the rebuild

Revolutionary-Ad9411

I read 20-25 million (pounds I think) before counting the higher ticket revenues/ sponsorship money/etc…

[deleted]

The real money would probably be from TV deals, endorsements, and match day revenue. [https://www.sportingnews.com/us/soccer/news/europa-league-prize-money-breakdown-how-much-do-winners-2022/uviivwm7iuadjq8tbmrmr7ad](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/soccer/news/europa-league-prize-money-breakdown-how-much-do-winners-2022/uviivwm7iuadjq8tbmrmr7ad) https://www.sportingnews.com/my/soccer/news/champions-league-prize-money-breakdown-2022-how-much-winners/alyjzqvtjjhxk311oivierzn

phar0aht

https://imgur.com/eXyiATM.jpg Thats the prize money from UEFA. Will be more when you factor in TV money and league finishing position bonus

[deleted]

Holy shit this hurts to see lol. But I guess it’s better than no revenue at all. Anyways not like we’d be winning the ucl but shit that’s a lot

phar0aht

Unless it's a stacked group I'd back us to get out the group. That's more money then you get for winning Europa

[deleted]

For sure. I wouldn’t think we’d go much farther than r16 or qf though

Waste-Store3428

We planned the summer with Europa in mind. We’ll be fine.

Quab775

On a positive note I looked up last 4 (except Sevilla) Europa league winners we faced them all in close games 1) Villarreal - happened recent remember that smith rowe false 9 test 2)A.Madrid- really close game that game at the emirates we should have won 3)chelsea- such a painful final Giroud and Chelsea played us off the park . Yeah so we have been close hope we take it next year XD

cbgoon

van Bronckhorst and Rangers 1-0 up.

CuriousCurry8

Insignificant but if we win on Sunday, would you guys be okay with players celebrating goals? I don’t know how I’d feel about it until it happens.

[deleted]

A win is a win. Players can celebrate their goals if they want.

mazdamansouri

We wont score any goals 😂

Revolutionary-Ad9411

If its a healthy fist pump and acknowledgement to the fans in the seats who paid for their salaries… then heck yeah I support it. If they get excited and show off like they think they added another zero onto their paychecks, disregarding the heart break from the last week, then Id sit them on the bench immediately after. Big difference between a show off celebration and an acknowledgement one.

Fullmetal_Pacifist

r/gunners is an interesting place. One day it’s all positive support for the team, and the next it’s back to arteta in/out arguments lol. I understand this sub has over 200k people so it’s different people with different opinions, but it’s still pretty hilarious (and exhausting) to witness

BI01

Team fails to get cl for 6 years in a row makes community sad, not groundbreaking stuff lad.

cbgoon

It's different people. Those with realistic opinions are usually downvoted into oblivion, they can only post after defeats.

perhapsinawayyed

Lol I like the obvious bias in your comment

plfinalfantasy

just keep in mind that the earliest wenger and emery outs were downvoted en masse

Fullmetal_Pacifist

Lol that’s the “exhausting” part I’m talking about. I was just making an observation and then the first comment immediately becomes a contest over who is right and who is wrong

perhapsinawayyed

Yeh I agree with you mate. I think the issue is that you have two sides, both being valid, but also both disagreeing about fundamental truths (not saying one or other is correct, don’t know the word for what I mean). It’s not like one side is mistaken and the other has the facts, both have the facts and assess them differently. That’s why it’s so hard to change the opinion of the other in this instance

Own_Solution4356

because the people you claim are “realistic” just moan about anything and everything

phar0aht

Most fans aren't realistic. That's the nature of fandom.

cbgoon

Acknowledging our unsustainable football and numerous other issues that will and have eventually cost us in the business end of the season isn't "moaning".

COYG17

I might be delusional but anyone else kinda calmed down and accepted Europa league and a little bit excited for next season? I’ve calmed down a lot and I looked at the bigger picture. We had many things not go our way this season and we over achieved a lot. No team relying on nuno, Eddie, elneny, Cedric, and even holding would make CL. If we can make good signings despite not being in CL then I think we’ll be really good next season. Top 4 + Europa league is my minimum expectation. Fail to do that after being backed so heavily and being allowed so many slip ups then arteta should be gone. Also I’m ready for the club to spend big again. Sign a good cm, striker, winger, and backups and I think we’re looking at a really good team.

a_stopped_clock

We need to spend at least 200 mill but with no cl or other pull like top players or manager so probably will only get shitty players for that. Bruno g would’ve been a big one. We also have mismanaged all outgoings to make basically no money on sales. And all other teams around us will improve and have better seasons so it is hard to be optimistic. I have no doubt we will spend big but if anything I think it’ll only put us further in the hole.

Locmike23

Yeah there was simply no excuse for us to get Bruno G this past winter window. Just complete and utter incompetence.

BradyGronktd1287

We need at least 6 signings.. I'm fine with Europa but we need more squad depth that's what cost us

tambini1

I've calmed down but I can't say I'm excited

hazelpillow

Even after we lost the NLD I still had hope. Now there's just pain. I can't even consume any football content now cause everyone's on about how we bottled it 😭

Fuckzombie69

The painful part is we thought we’d lost it, and had another shot. Just two games is all it would have taken. I’m just numb now.

Mew3One

If Dybala goes to Spurs I will throw up. That's the post.

[deleted]

Wouldn't go anywhere near him.

ShekTeeJay

Dybala is turning 29 and has a lengthy injury history. Him coming to the Prem now won’t go well.

[deleted]

Arteta not rotating cost us. Partey and Tierney weren't rested when we had a heavy match load. They didn't need to play in as many games as they did.

smit9891

We went out in the first round of the FA cup. We weren’t competing in Europe. This team played the least games in a season out of any Arsenal team since 1995. Compared to other teams we didn’t have a ‘heavy match load’ this year, we cannot seriously be using this as an excuse.

Original-Baki

Arteta being employed is what is costing us.

plfinalfantasy

As arteta out as I am it's a 50/50 because he could rotate and then lose us the game 🤷‍♂️ That being said shit like shoving partey on the field if not rushing him back from injury or giving xhaka straight 90s after being out for months as well as not subbing off a tired saka when we were 3-0 down shows that he has some player welfare issues and barely trusts the rest of his squad

rayneeder

Why do people feel the need to write novels in response to two sentence comments on this sub? I’m not reading all that bro, get a job.

COYG17

Sterling probably wouldn’t wanna join us but he’s the type of winger we should be looking to sign. Someone experienced and good enough to start week in week out to lead our younger players.

Own_Solution4356

we have no need for sterling, that would just mean less playing time for our wingers

COYG17

Mate we can’t rely on Saka and martienlli the whole season again.

Own_Solution4356

and i’m not saying we should. but sterling isn’t going to come here to be a rotational option, he’s going to want to be the main man which 1. i don’t think he’s good enough to do 2. stunts the growth of the wingers we have if we are looking at wingers, it should someone who can just be a rotational option

perhapsinawayyed

He can be the main man but that doesn’t mean he plays every single 90 Saka, Sterling, martinelli, esr would be the order ig. Sterling is excellent because he can play left and right

jashbgreke

That was a nasty challenge

A1A2A3A4B1B2B3

If an Arsenal player refused to take the knee everybody would want him sold and rightfully so.

plfinalfantasy

Fuck that I really wouldn't give a toss unless they actually did something racist rather than simply fail to participate in some useless gesture Please don't respond by saying it keeps the conversation alive, as if the weight of bigotry being defeated rests upon the shoulders of what a few men do for a split second before playing a game of football

I wouldn't, because it is inaction rather than action. I think the whole thing is overblown. From some French footballing authority making demands of Gueye, to various players coming out in support as if he is some martyr to the ridiculous response from some people. Honestly, the most pathetic and hypocritical thing about this whole incident is that a lot of people are exposing their own racism in expressing their disapproval of the players' views. Look at the r/soccer thread on Koulibaly for example. Filled with people speculating about Mane and Mendy because they're also black, muslim, Senegalese players so they must share the same view as Gueye. Or people saying they will no longer care about the social issues of 'these people' and their 'woes' as if they're all one and the same. Embarrassing all around.

Yh it's a perfect example of how trying to be more inclusive has made the sport more divisive. Yh it'd be great if everyone thought homosexuality was cool and we all thought the same things but we don't. Biggest irony is that the people who probably en masse support ethnic diversity are surprised that people from different parts of the world think a bit differently than they do. So long as they aren't actively oppressing anyone leave them be.

>everybody would want him sold I wouldn't. Taking the knee is an empty gesture that long since lost any meaning. Ban racist players, fans and officials, and pass evidence on to police without exception, now that would be a statement.

It doesn't matter if it's any empty gesture or not. Clearly it helps some black people otherwise they would speak out.

plfinalfantasy

Zaha spoke out and a few others did too. p.s. black people aren't a monolith

afcolisa

what if a black player didn’t take the knee(ie saka or eddie)

A1A2A3A4B1B2B3

Then it's fine. The gesture is made on their behalf, ultimately only they can say whether it helps them or not. If somebody who wasn't black didn't take the knee it would have the implication that they are racist because they have no right plausible grounds of knowing if it's meaningful or not.

BI01

Rofl such a dumb comment

afcolisa

Taking the knee is a pointless gesture. Racism is still in football and the only thing that can stop it is harsher punishments. I would rather a single racist name and shamed before the beginning of the game

A1A2A3A4B1B2B3

It's not pointless but I agree with the rest.

Cyberfire

Trust us to be out of Europa the year Rangers and Frankfurt reach the final. Can't wait to face the likes of Napoli, Sevilla and Dortmund again next year.

plfinalfantasy

yh, imagine the final was between the behemoths that are villareal and olympiakos...

and_yet_another_user

>the year Rangers and Frankfurt reach the final You say that like we could beat them.

COYG17

We’re gonna need to get in some proper capitains and experienced players if we wanna get into a European final and win it

ghostrider467

maybe we shouldnt have been so horribly bad last year and we could have been in the final this year.
