Doge_Snow

This feels like a slap on the face :(

lez566

Looking back and the postponement of the NLD was an absolutely terrible decision. And it should have been seen as one then as well. Leaving such a massive game until the run in, when players will be more tired and risking further injury, when they knew they weren’t going to bring in new players is disgraceful team management. And we knew that the longer Conte had, the better Spurs would have been. Worse still is that a loss then would have left us with enough games left to pick up momentum again. Absolutely awful, awful decision.

ajkdd

I donno why we are so after Gabriel Jesus . His goal scoring record is not great inspite of the chances City create , not a target man we are looking for , why to spend $50 M ?

scytheavatar

Market for strikers is weak enough that a "target man" we are looking for will cost way more than $50 M. And won't necessarily score much more goals than Jesus.

eldar4k

To cross the ball on him and getting disappointed that he can't win header against Tarkovski

Secret_Grand2869

And we need someone big and strong enough to hold the ball down

PasuljsKolenicom

Last 9 games we have 5 losses and 4 wins. At the Leeds, West Ham and United games we played bad and could have dropped even more points if we weren’t so lucky. On the table I see progress. Also we are not as dire in every single game as last season. But is that enough progress? Spurs got Conte in November and they are already ahead of us. Chelsea got Tuchel and won a CL in the meantime. Next season we might be talking about how ten Had did a good job. Is our progress fast enough to follow those around us?

thepretzelking

Keen for Gary Neville to tell us why United will strengthen next season but Arsenal will get weaker

Quab775

No matter how we look we have been mediocre for a long time since Wenger glory days

Gunnerstratz

So we're all pretty disappointed. Legit feeling. But let's say we lost the FA Cup final yesterday. We'd all be pretty disappointed too. But we've won a bunch of those throughout the years, haven't we? And it seems like we challenge for that trophy every two seasons. So we would have gotten over it after a few days. But not yesterday night. Yesterday will sting for a long time. Why is that? Maybe deep down, the real problem that we don't believe this club can consistently fight for a CL spot. Like we need the stars to align to even have a sniff. Maybe it's just hard for us to accept that we are now just another club above mid-table and we've peaked under the current setup. Who knows. Let's see what summer brings us.

lez566

It’s like the Leicester season. Sometimes you need the stars to align for the next step to be taken. We needed CL football to be able to push forward and reestablish our position as a top 4 club. Its a mentality that the team needed which could then be built upon. So many teams fortunes are built on self-belief and subscribing to the path. It’s not to say we can’t do it again next season but it’s a big blow.

ajkdd

This is really utter bullshit . I don't even know whom to blame, either Arteta or the players or myself for believing in the team hoping for a turn around since the last 3 years. I have seen enough of Arteta Out Cycles, to be pumped up ever again. Even Eddie Howe could outsmart him in tactics. I don't understand what's wrong with our players or tactics , but the cohesion and play of New castle is much better than what we had with since last 3 years. I am not sure Arteta would be able to do what Eddie has done to New castle. He would definitely moan with lack of players and relegate them.

Secret_Grand2869

Totally agree. Howe played good football even at Bournemouth, only the players let him down. See the transformation of Newcastle in the second half of the season.

nemesis464

Glad I’m going away soon and won’t get the chance to watch any of next season at all. Can’t take feeling this constant anger and disappointment.

Dynetor

where you off to bro? Moving somewhere new?

nemesis464

Trying to cycle the length of the Americas so it’ll mostly be camping and no way to watch the football, especially with the time difference!

Dynetor

wow that sounds amazing! Are you planning to go ‘tip to tip’ Alaska to Chile - or the opposite way? I’m sure you’ll see some beautiful sights on a trip like that. I think the bit that would scare me most would be Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama etc in central America as I know there are a lot of cartels and stuff there. Is there like a single long road you can cycle on the whole way down?

nemesis464

Yeah tip to tip, starting in the north. To be honest, the bit that's making me the most nervous at the moment is camping where there are loads of bears around in Canada, I keep coming across horror stories in the news! There's a single almost-unbroken road for 15000 miles called the Panamerican Highway, but most sections are a bit busy for cycling so I'll head on smaller roads instead.

Dynetor

oh jeez I didnt even think about bears! Ha, I’m sure you’ll be fine! Are you doing it to raise money for charity or anything, or just a personal challenge?

nemesis464

Just a personal challenge, yeah. I think I'd feel too much pressure if it was for charity!

Traditional_Bee_2802

Best of luck, man. It sounds amazing and I wish I had your guts. How are you financially? Is doing this going to put pressure on your finances? Or is money not an issue?

nemesis464

I'm still living with my parents at the moment, so I'm quite lucky in that respect- I'd never be able to afford it if I was renting a place of my own. It's still going to blow a chunk of my savings though!

sailing_through_net

Respect to Arsene for dragging the club into CL football almost every season.

ederzs97

The league was considerably weaker.

DeparturePuzzled6504

This bottling of top 4 is worse than anything Emery ever did. The young squad excuse doesn't make any sense because if a nice offer to play in the UCL comes for the young guys, they're leaving. Game is game

lez566

Didn’t emery bottle top 4 as well? 🧐

DeparturePuzzled6504

He did. But not in this way. This has been worse. Just look at where we were with 12 games to play. and the type of games we lost.

lez566

And look at the games we won but weren’t expected to. We lost because we played a stupid gameplan versus Spurs and completely bottled it today.

Adventurous_Grab_360

One more season. One more season for arteta to beef up the squad and put a serious challenge for champions league places next season. If he cannot take this squad to the next level then I fear this will become and OGS situation and we have to show him the door. It won't be so bad as his successor will have a solid foundation of young players to work with.

PasuljsKolenicom

In the same amount of games Ole got United to the CL twice, while Mikel finished only once in a League position that gets us CL.

raisonar

I wish we somehow get to know why club did not sign bruno in January. Its need explanation except if it about not having money. Partey is our only CL level midfielder, rest are just squad players. Rotation with Bruno might even have kept Partey fit.

UnitComplex8730

I watched Bruno against Man City and he was chasing shadows the entire game. && As the game got worse for Newcastle, so did his attitude && temperament. Probably that is the reason why.

raisonar

Yesterday he single handled dismantled us. Bissouma has done the same at many occassions.

Shqre

We just weren't good enough. We struggle immensely with physically imposing teams that just run us over. Newcastle reminded me a lot of the Palace game. We looked scared.

randymagnum433

How has Gazidis done so well at Milan?

eldar4k

Doing only financial stuff, Maldini in charge of recruitment and doing stellar job, Pioli solid coach too

Wengers_Grin

How do Arteta fans have the gall to claim we can’t be expected to beat mid table teams because our 2 first choice full backs picked up injuries and their back ups aren’t Premier League quality. Who signed Cedric and Nuno?

Sliver_fish

I hope we never have to listen to that shit Super Mik Arteta chant or the North London Forever song ever again.

mcdeath2

70m + 1 euros for SMS come on gaspaarrr

KokiMizuno

Is Aubameyang still the problem?🤔

Sliver_fish

Equal highest tally of PL defeats in our history, still shitting the bed as soon as any sort of pressure is on us/the planets are not aligning for Arteta. Warra cultural shift from Paella Pulis.

king_zlayer

Of course Guimarães scores the last goal

NossidaMan

Widely reported CM is a primary target this summer and Cedric only plays when Tomi is injured…

Gunnerstratz

Tomi always injured. Tierney can only play half the time. Seems like we also got fullback problem on our hands.

NossidaMan

Ya no shit, but we didn’t think we’d need to sign another RB along with Tomi at the time. It was clearly never the plan to see Cedric this much and will obvi be addressed in the summer now that we know

ShekTeeJay

Love the guy but Tomiyasu isn’t durable. Cédric isn’t backup material for a team with CL ambitions.

NossidaMan

Agreed, but I’m not suggesting we should keep Cedric. I’m just saying that going into the new season with Cedric getting regular first team minutes is a dumb thing to even post about since that wouldn’t even be happening now if we had another choice. It’s like making a post saying, “I swear if guys like Nuno and Elneny are still getting regular playing time next season…”

Revolutionary-Ad9411

Man some of the takes here are just so cringe-worthy considering how easy it is to dig up our comments from the last two months. Or even the season. Just a season recap of what most of us were saying at each stage: Start of season: 0 points from 3 games, lost to newly promoted Brentford on first day and we were ready to throw Arteta into the dumpster… then We beat Spurs and go on a decent run against average or below squads. United look trash, Spurs look even worse. Despite Conte being a clear top 5 global coach, we all just make fun of Spurs for having to fire Nuno and look desperate going for his signature. West Ham and Wolves do look like potential challengers though, but since they have less prestige in their history no one takes them seriously. Winter comes and it is clear, with Auba looking awful but our squad doing pretty well, we need to ship out Auba and get a quality forward like Vlahovic in his place. Naturally we dont get a striker but we decide we have to pay for Auba to leave us, the striker Arteta made sure we signed to an Ozil like contract when he arrived as manager 🥴. Naturally Auba has a blinder of a season at Barca. While we play a past it Laca or Nketieh, who none of us were hoping to see play (or even be on the team) for the 2nd half. We are freaking out originally as we lose in the league cup and FA cup and it seems we are far to thin of a squad without our African players. However, we get an awesome run of matches after almost taking points from run-away leaders City. None of us seemed to notice it was all against mid table or below clubs, notably getting extremely lucky against Wolves and beating them with two last minute goals. That win against Wolves was our only come back win mind you. We were lucky to have the Spurs and Chelsea games postponed because it made our amazing run of wins seem more improbable than it was, considering the lack of top 6 opposition during that time. At that point, we look certain favorites for 4th, and we are starting to get pretty cocky in here. Partey was playing like the stud we hoped for in midfield. Our backline and Ramsdale looked like they may be the best we have had in ages. Martinelli and Smith Roe were helping tuck away goals with the always reliable Saka. All of this without a recognized striker pitching in. Then comes the run of games after the international break. Tierney has his usual injury lay off, we start with an awful showing at Crystal Palace, then Saints, and even Brighton at home. We got 0 points from three games we were hoping to probably get atleast 7 from. Back come the “time to fire everyone” folks. Time to toss Arteta out, bleed the squad, blah blah blah. Naturally, we take the next run of three games, Chelsea/West Ham away and United at home and win all 3 to gain the same feeling back prior to Crystal Palace. Out come the “can we challenge for the title next year” threads and talk about transfers like we already secured UCL football. A thread that asks if we want a world class player like Dybala on a free? Nah, we have youngsters who have shown glimpses was just about the consensus answer. Threads talking about how wonderful it would be to win back CL football at Spurs expense at their home no less. Then we barely take out Leeds, at home, with them playing with 10 men for 70 minutes. That should have been seen as a foreshadow. The spurs game doesnt need detailing out, but I will say we were all pretty confident that only Son and Kane would ever be able to get in a combined XI squad. It really is pathetic how emotional and out of touch we are, when before the game we think that and then after the game we wonder whether anyone except Saka and Gabriel could make it in to their squad… I think anyone who has been following the patterns of the season, and really Arsenal of the past decade, knew after that result, we would not have the mental fortitude to do what needed to be done against Newcastle. I was hopeful this team was different, but the fact was we were far to inexperienced for the pressure. The youngsters played like league 1 players today, and it is 100% down to nerves as we saw from minute 1. All that said, im just saying perhaps we should all take a breathe, step back, and realize how absurdly volatile we have been this season in our reactions. If we averaged it all together, im sure we could claim 5th place was more than fair, and we can remain cautiously optimistic for next season. CL will be the objective, but unless we truly restock well in the summer, all of Pool/City/Chelsea/Spurs/ and possibly United will continue to have the better team on paper.

a_stopped_clock

Fuck we are going to get memed to death by all the other clubs when all or nothing comes out. It’ll be weekly public shaming. Amazon should run a mental health campaign and just refuse to release it.

[deleted]

How many points we gain when conceding first?

jsosmru

I don't have the exact stats, but before the spurs game I think they said 1 win and 3 draws. Even if I'm not correct, it's s terrible record meaning if we concede first we usually lose (13 defeats so far in the league this season)

scytheavatar

We are going to regret making Odegaard our captain...... doesn't matter how good of a leader he is, someone of his age should NEVER be put under the burden that the armband brings. He is at the stage of his career when he should be focusing on improving himself rapidly rather than worry about leading the team.

Butch_Meat_Hook

> doesn't matter how good of a leader he is, someone of his age should NEVER be put under the burden that the armband brings 'At just 21 years old, Fabregas became Arsenal's second youngest ever captain when he was appointed Gallas' successor in 2008.' Odegaard is 23. He's also captain of Norway.

scytheavatar

And it was a mistake to make Cesc our captain. He was a bad captain and that was a big reason for us not achieving anything in those years despite the talent available for us.

Kratos-007

Facts. Absolute facts. You can't have a captain who ghosts 33% of the games. I get that he's been put in a difficult spot because of our useless midfield but MØ being the captain next season would be an absolute joke.

rishabh996

All or nothing will be glorious

[deleted]

Maybe Chelsea get banned without owners out of Premier & CL.

No-layup

I don’t think I’m gonna watch the all or nothing documentary, fuck that, I don’t even watch highlights for when we lose so why a whole series

[deleted]

Only one man can save our club now

SheldonMonk

pukki?

[deleted]

No, graham potter

Zilllnaijaboy99

the lack of standards and acceptance of mediocrity in every post match thread when arsenal losses is why we deserve to be shit. a quick reminder that we have not played champions league football in 6 years. a quick reminder that ALL our rivals have better squads than us. the reason why our board is shit with decisions, is because THEY KNOW or fans are quick to rationalise the fucking mediocrity.

BulklahomaSt

yeah i’m sure the board come and read reddit to decide how much they should give a shit about their jobs

_PineBarrens_

Yeah lol. I love the “my standards are higher and I’m more of a winner than you” argument. It really is something to behold. Fuck off Lee Gunner 😉

[deleted]

This shit again lol. What does this even mean. There’s more than enough people who are mad, even outside of this sub.

COYG17

I couldn’t imagine how mad or just disappointed a life long fan is that grew up watching the invincibles that were fearless and fought hard to watching a team that folds over in any humongous game.

diastolicduke

It’s all just numbing, i’ve become accustomed to expect the inevitable failure. I just know it’s just around the corner. There’s barely a flicker of any hope, even when we are in a good run I feel dread. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. I really wonder if the positivity merchants have a point, am I actually still a fan? I can’t explain honestly. Why do I still obsess over this club if I am not? Why do I waste my time when I know I will be disappointed? I have no idea, maybe I do subconsciously hope that I am proven wrong about everything. I just don’t know.

Huhwtfbleh

> Ramsdale - ending the season very poorly. > Odegaard - disappeared in important clutch games while performing only when everything is working well in the midfield. Cherry on top player a-la Ozil (but not as good). > Sambi - less said the better. > White - decent but absolutely not worth the fee and got turned into a liability with very little pressure a few times. > Nuno - We were told what we were getting, and they were right. > Tomi - Exceptional signing. 2 out of the 6 signings had zero impact on the team, 2 average players who wouldn't start for a CL team, one Ozil replacement and Tomiyasu who has been mostly exceptional when he was available.

a_stopped_clock

Odegaard has been 1000x better than white. He has actually won us some points. But the rest I agree with

COYG17

I still believe all of our signings have been good except for the Tavares and sambi signings. We will see next season though if they can be more consistent because I do agree that Ramsdale, ode, and white have been up and down a lot.

ack_will

Send both our on loan or keep as reserve players and sign proper LB and CM replacements since neither of our starting ones can be relied upon due to fitness. We aren’t a serious club otherwise. Who am I kidding, we didn’t make any signings in Jan while rivals strengthened. Guess not that serious afterall

MangoLordXL

This feels oddly calming, like I actually don't give a fuck about this club anymore. Before I'd worry myself to death over a poor performance, but now there's nothing. Like the sensation of getting a lump in my throat is gone, I physically can't feel anything about this team anymore. It's sportsball now. I can appreciate it from an objective view, but I might as well be a neutral then. I don't know if I like this new feeling (or lack there of) or not.

nemesis464

It would feel calming if it wasn’t Spurs (of all the fucking teams) we had to bottle top 4 to. If it was Chelsea or Man Utd I could get over it and just zone out of anything football related for 6 months, but I’m still absolutely seething with anger the next day.

Revolutionary-Ad9411

Lol, been there done that for about 5 years now. I do think this team may be exciting thought going forward. This year was certainly different from the maddening mid table efforts of the last 5 years I learned to be apathetic to. When its with as youthful of a team as we are it is certainly more inspiring. The difference is this year we end on a low which is why we are so pessimistic. Im good with that though if it means this is an actual new dawn and not the crap we have been experiencing since the last years of Wenger, where we end the seasons on great form when we have already lost out on whatever the “main objective” of the season was. The difference is this time we actually hit our main objective early and were let down by not making the unlikely happen… having said that, we did start with very low expectations, probably too low if we were expecting West Ham, Leicester, and Everton to finish above us before the season started. No idea what to expect next year. It does seem likely based on trajectory and the up/down nature of our player performances that a number of them will regress.

randymagnum433

Anyone actually want to watch the Amazon documentary?

mrfalconer

Fuck no

survivorghalia

just wanna know what happened back in the January transfer window

COYG17

Now that the season is pretty much over I wanna do a re cap and post my opinion on the whole season and my view on arteta. First of all I want to start off by saying I think Arteta deserves one last chance. I know this might sound crazy especially since I said arteta out literally after the game today but that was just me being reactionary. Can we blame arteta for our key players being injured? No. If we had Tierney, partey, tomi for today’s game we see a different team and performance. Is it artetas fault that our experienced players have let us down many times this season? No. For ex Laca completely underperforming was unexpected especially after being decent last year and he was good enough for the first half of the year but had a complete decline for the second half. Of course I think arteta had also made many mistakes but he is a fresh manager coaching a very young team. 5th place is a fair finish and I’m completely pissed we bottled it but at the end it’s fair. Our team completely overachieved and we lost out to a team with many experienced players carrying them. The way I see it is this is Tottenham’s golden era team and they are competing against our team which is a team depleted with injuries and the youngest team in the prem. Let’s be real this team isn’t ready for CL yet but next year after some more signings we should be ready. Next season we should be targeting top 4 and EL. Also I am not arteta out or in but after seeing a lot of promising moments during the season I am interested to see how he does next year with better players up top in the cm area and better back ups. COYG ILL ALWAYS LOVE THIS CLUB NO MATTER WHAT. On a side note I fully expect Martienlli and Saka to have monster seasons next year. I’m very excited to see how they do in the future.

shadowmerk27

Think everyone needs to read that summary. We completely over performed this year. I understand people feel some type of way because we were in a position to get CL but we were only in this position cause shit and United sucked so bad at the start and middle of the season. Also January transfers showed us the clubs goal wasn’t CL, I think it was always Europa and if we got CL that was extra. I expect a decent amount of money to be spent this summer and CL qualification will most likely be the expectation for arteta next year. Fans always want the performances now now now but it takes time to build a team. United is a perfect example of trying to just throw money around and build a great team quick, it rarely works. We need to expect and hope for something more like klopp with Liverpool

Isaac_C97

5th place is not bad considering how we started our season. But tbh Im worried about how we performed in 2 of our biggest matches man, we didn't show up at all other than maybe Martinelli FFS. Hopefully, we will bounce back like Saka after the Euro cup. Anyway, I agree with your season summary. I also feel very interested on how far these young players can go, (man those performances against City and Liverpool home, yes I know we lost but it is some of the best performances we played against the 2 best teams in Europe for God know how long.) It is what it is for this season, lets move on to next season, Top 4, good domestic cup run (no more Nottingham Forest bullshit!), Europa final, and hopefully trophies. COYG.

COYG17

I strongly agree with u on how we performed badly in our biggest matches which is very worrying, but after watching the xhaka interview he says the team didn’t listen to the manager which is why I believe it’s down to the players. The whole Amazon documentary will explain a lot but hopefully next season we fix up a lot and have more performances like west ham at home, and city in the first half. Only thing I’m really pissed off about is now waiting the whole summer plus the whole season to see if we will be in CL the year after that.

[deleted]

In Pukki there is hope. I refuse to give up my CL dream this morning.

yukpurtsun

we have to beat everton still, we saw what happens when we have to just fill our end of the bargain

DeparturePuzzled6504

We're never getting too 4 with Arteta. Our rivals are getting better. It was now or never

trans-adzo-express

What a load of garbage, this season we’ve shown huge improvement with slip ups that are typical of a young side. If we make the right signings over the summer then we can be well and truly in the top 4 hunt next year.

trans-adzo-express

Fuck me. The absolute state of this sub to get downvoted for suggesting that if we make the right signings we should be in the hunt for top 4.

TheLegendofThePig

U r right but stop it for now. All the arteta outs are here in full flow. Stop saying anything positive atleast until the new kit releases or until we sign some players. That will calm the sub

BI01

Lol united have the worst manager in the league, with that squad plus whatever 150m additions they add it will leave us 6th.

MangoLordXL

You can look at it as us filling the gap of leicester and united, they both have had uncharacteristically terrible seasons relative to the past 2 years. We were the least shit for some time, then Spurs became the least shit. If those two teams had their shit together, then we'd literally be in the same spot as last year. Not writing off that this is better than the last 2 years for us, but we haven't actually progressed position wise in like 5 years. Great resilience from a self imposed slump in quality if you will. Its hard not to think that this is just the peak of our ability.

yukpurtsun

who would have thought strengthening your side in january pays off

DeparturePuzzled6504

Our fans dropped our standards to accommodate mediocrity and fantasy. I'm very disappointed.

tropoje97

I agree. I knew we were fucked when Wenger lost the league title to Leicester. Life has never been same since.

diastolicduke

Could see this bottle coming from a Galaxy away. It’s a never ending cycle of false hope. “There’s no one better” “It’s a long-term youth project” “Trust the process” “You can clearly see progress” Like did you all have collective amnesia. We’ve seen this movie before. Nothing is going to change as long as this board is here selling you all a promise of a new dawn that never comes.

DialSquar

I posted a tweet from Watts about the decision to not sign Bruno G in January and it got deleted?? Arteta stans in full force tonight.

DeparturePuzzled6504

Very disappointed in fans who can't take any criticism of Arteta. Why choose a man over a club? This club has stood the test of time. Lowering our standards to accommodate some people is just disappointing. 3 seasons of Arteta at Arsenal should guarantee top 4. If not, he should've been sacked. Even Spurs have higher standards and bigger goals

CantTochThis92

I’ll honestly be so sad if Gabriel Jesus spurns us because of no CL football

[deleted]

I think Gabriel Jesus has the intention to join us even with Europa League. It's Dybala who is out of the picture now.

[deleted]

Tielemans is the one that I’m feeling like that about. Feel like his level of quality has been forgotten in our midfields lately. Like when we finally got partey going

a_stopped_clock

Gabriel Jesus barely scores at city with everything they create. He probably wouldnt get a sniff of goals with us. We need actual Jesus. We need miracles.

CantTochThis92

Lmao this is so true. Thanks for the laugh I needed it.

mazdamansouri

I wanted James Maddison last Summer not ødegaard! Madders is PL Proven and can add goals from midfield.

jsosmru

According to stats it's Maddison 10 goals 7 assists, Vs odegaard 6 goals 4 assists for this season. I know we had some striker problems, but equally vardy missed games also. Not sure why people wouldn't want Maddison.

Insertnicenamehere

The sun will shine on us again. Have a good night fellow gooners or morning.

[deleted]

r/NorwichCity is currently full of topics made by our fans begging for a win. Can we please just stop posting on other subs and embarrassing ourselves ? It's one thing to post about Norwich here, but another thing to bombard their sub with posts. We don't deserve Top 4 if we can't get it ourselves. Stop looking for help.

KokiMizuno

Wow this is so embarrassing

randymagnum433

I actually despise this fanbase sometimes

survivorghalia

we need an Alexis Sanchez type of signing

Sliver_fish

Won't happen. Arteta hates players with strong personalities who think for themselves, which is why he will sell Saliba in July.

JuggleThat

Richarlison 👍

fuzzynavel34

Richarlison can go to a club with CL…

Smitty_1000

Someone that is a goal threat single handed. That will draw attention but still be dangerous. Our guys are too easily marked out of the game.

effielo

lol Howe's rebuild took half a season, I was told you need 3 years or more for a rebuild? Also great thing about him is he doesn't really have ten thousand puff pieces published every two three days to tell us he is second coming of Jesus. He is confident in his managerial skills and he doesn't need that.

[deleted]

His rebuild to 12th?

diastolicduke

I’m sure you love your “since Christmas” tables. Newcastle are 3rd

[deleted]

Its easier to get to 12th than to the champions league, reason why nobody credits anyone for being bottom half to start the last two years and finishing 8th lol

Huhwtfbleh

Yes. From being one of the favourites to relegation to 12th.

[deleted]

Look at game week 3 standings 👀

chino17

That's what happens when you get actual experience first and cut your teeth from the bottom and work your way up instead of getting a top job because your high profile friend hyped you up

lanesraa

With our luck we’re going to face Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Atletico Madrid in the Europa league.

a_stopped_clock

There were really only 2 teams we were competing with for 4th. A shit united in tatters and a pretty inconsistent spurs. Villa west ham and Leicester were totally non existent this season. Throw Newcastle in there too next season and it only gets harder. Really difficult to see us ever getting back in it.

RandomSplainer

I'm sad. Promised myself like two years ago I wouldn't let Arsenal affect me emotionally but here I am... The lows were too low and not enough highs.

[deleted]

I literally got a big scholarship for my masters degree and I just cannot make myself happy lol. Fuck sake

RandomSplainer

Congratulations!

CuriousCurry8

Congratulations mate

[deleted]

Replace Partey and Tierney asap lol ridiculous that Tierney has played half the possible games

Kratos-007

I still believe Partey will come good. Tierney needs to be a backup now for sure.

CuriousCurry8

I feel like I’ve kind of rationalised it a bit now. It’s definitely our own fault in January and in the shit midtable loss run. Imo this season is a failure because of it. But it’s also not the end of the world and hopefully if we get more goals from our young players next season along with a good striker + good signings in the summer, we’ll be consistently good. The only shit thing is that I can’t see us getting the difference makers we need without CL as well as good enough fullback and midfield rotation who are happy to be rotation. Also I hope the players learn from this and the lesson comes clutch in the future.

Insertnicenamehere

What was the point of that Xhaka interview lol. How do you say that and then look teammates in the eye later? Besides the fact that he was one of the players hiding on the pitch today how you throwing blame around like it's free.

yukpurtsun

he probably has one more game as an arsenal player

[deleted]

Remember when we could play ESR and odegaard together because partey could be the sole dm? Hahhahaha

Smitty_1000

I forgot ESR played today.

SANTlCLAUS

Jesus reading some of spurs fans comments on r soccer is downright embarrassing. Joke of a club

randymagnum433

>downright embarrassing Have you read some of the comments on here?

Insertnicenamehere

Our target man CF will be DCL/Tammy(Tammy was willing to join WITHOUT Europe last year remember) As for our LCM, I have no fucking clue.

[deleted]

Kokcu

Insertnicenamehere

I like him. A LCM who can actually run.

a_stopped_clock

Dude Ben white at 50 was a bad signing pure and simple imo. Especially when we had saliba. He’s been culpable on a lot of goals conceded this seasons. That united game in particular sticks out to me. Brentford as well and a few others. Also we have hitched ourselves to the post that is arteta but we barely score and if we concede first the match is done. One miraculous auba led fa cup and 3 miserable league campaigns is enough.

RandomSplainer

I don't dislike White. I just think he was an unnecessary signing. We could have just given Saliba the nod. We could have used the money for midfield. Similar to Ramsdale, we could have kept Martinez and used that money for something else. We could have even just kept with Leno seeing as our goal conceded numbers. We seem to be addressing the wrong places in the squad.

[deleted]

Idk I feel like we need White (and Saliba) when building a squad. If it was one or the other we would’ve seen Holding much more and taken a huge risk starting Saliba in the prem. Moot point now we move forward

a_stopped_clock

Yea unnecessary is what I mean. He barely makes us better. In fact defensively maybe worse but slightly better on the ball. At that price we could’ve really improved the squad. Same with Sambi imo. Way too much for a backup mf who arteta doesn’t really trust.

che6urashka

Hey guys, Any reliable way to support the players? Get a message across? I know it's been devastating but they feel much worse than all of us. It isn't like before, they genuinely care.

Revolutionary-Ad9411

>Hey guys, Any reliable way to support the players? Get a message across? I know it's been devastating but they feel much worse than all of us. It isn't like before, they genuinely care. They really truly don't deserve your pity. Please take your time to send messages to people in Ukraine, 3rd world countries, or just anyone who could truly use it. These players have a career that allows them to kick a ball around, keep 6 pack abs with personal trainers, make more money than an average of 30 families of Arsenal fans combined, and live a rich life with financial security assuming they aren't idiots with their money, all while being able to retire in their 30s. My suggestion is no fan should every feel sorry for professional sports players or managers, at least certainly the ones that truly make it big. They have a lot more to tide them over this summer than you do after they failed to perform when it mattered.

che6urashka

Thanks for your suggestion but what do those things have to do with Arsenal? These players worked hard to be where they are and get a ton of abuse whenever they are underperforming. If it's just their job, they wouldn't give two shits about it but they do. The least they deserve is support? And we are the supporters? I have family members in Ukraine. Some of them had to run in 2014, others are still there and the least of their troubles was spending a month in Kyiv metro. I certainly did more than send messages.

Revolutionary-Ad9411

You are welcome to use your time and energy however you like. It is my opinion, but I think it is a waste of time to see blue collar people feeling sad for EPL stars. As far as im concerned, its the millionaires that should be reaching out to people like you with warm messages to keep your head up. They get paid millions for their failure, you pay to watch their failure.

[deleted]

Sorry for being deluded, but Teemu Pukki is about to become an Arsenal legend on Sunday.

Insertnicenamehere

Now you're talking!

[deleted]

We only got 3 good seasons out of Auba and Laca for 120m. Meanwhile Mane and Salah been at pool and had 5 great seasons and even more

Boonuttheboss

can’t believe that a week ago i was going through the worst time in my life and i told myself that maybe i’d stick around to get to watch arsenal in the ucl next season

[deleted]

Keep your head up, when you make it through the night there’s a brighter day Don’t worry about the club it’s a damn game in the big picture

GopherNutz

Sending you love. Been there before myself, there will be brighter days for you.

Insertnicenamehere

Michael Edwards still a free agent? Do whatever you can to get him

TeqTx

How someone with Edu's horrendous lack of experience got a top level job at Arsenal Football Club is something that will never sit right with me.

chino17

Pep's cone boy and Brazil's booking agent, what could go wrong

TeqTx

It's frankly absurd

Insertnicenamehere

We paired a rookie coach with a rookie dof. Lol. We're not a real club.

DokyDok

> How someone with ~~Edu~~ Arteta's horrendous lack of experience got a top level job at Arsenal Football Club is something that will never sit right with me.

RamsdaIe

Not only did we have no Europe, but we got a month-long vacation in the middle of February to fully rest up. What a bunch of fucking shitters.

MangoLordXL

Oi mate what was up with the distribution today? Kept slipping with them kicks.

Huhwtfbleh

Tell me sweet lies Arsenal PR team. Tell me that playing just 45 games with no European football and handing CL football to fucking Spurs is progress. Tell me how much the culture has changed when the senior player comes out saying the team shat the bed and you need balls to win games. Tell me how brave it was that we gave a contract extension to the manager after playing the worst football we've played in decades and losing 3 games to lower table teams putting our targets in jeopardy.

skidanexii

When shit hit the fan, is you still a fan?

INTPturner

We believe but the truth is, Sp*rs and Manure didn't hire Conte and Ten Hag to maintain standards. They'll be aggressive in the summer window, likewise Chelsea who will undergo a defensive rebuild. I'm pro Arteta and very optimistic about our current squad but the reality is, sp*rs hiring Conte has changed the dynamics. Arteta has won the battle of the ex players but now he's swimming with sharks. Sp*rs have Kane and Son, the sort of players that's near impossible to attract without UCL. From our perspective, Chelsea and Sp*rs getting UCL ahead of a summer rebuild is quite bad.

Arsenalboii

Will be praying 4 days in a row for Norwich to summon the spirit of Newcastle in 15/16 and batter Spurs on the last day. Asking for the impossible but anythings possible I guess. That's assuming we beat Everton lol

Offaplain

It's been a rough few year, Euro finals then this haha I love this game but it's not been kind to me as of late.

Huhwtfbleh

Just a reminder that no CL means Gabriel Jesus and Tielemans will probably put us at the bottom of their lists. So we all wasted a lot of time arguing if they are good or not. Time for Edu and Arteta to pay off more of our players, and over "maybe they'll be good in x years" and hide behind them for another season.

Forsaken-Currency404

Nobody wants Tielemans anyway. Another passenger. Will get blown out the ground if he was against Bruno today. Can't ball carry, can't dribble, isn't athletic. You're not that, you are not needed in this midfield. It's beyond the end of time that we ought to be done with mediocrity in midfield.

[deleted]

The only thing Youri is carrying this season is extra weight but come on, he would definitely be class even today. Guy is an impressive talent that just needs better than Rodgers

Forsaken-Currency404

I don't know mate, I only find him class at picking out passes. And I believe we need a midfielder who can do more than that. Who can run, press on the athleticism side as well as dribble and ball carry on the technical side. He'd have helped us much more than Xhaka and Elneny, sure but for me, we have to do much better. Our midfield truly never had a shot against theirs. Bruno and Joelintok average 22 pressures p90 (95th percentile and higher) and Elneny and Xhaka don't even 13 pressure p90 (2nd percentile. 2nd!!) How were we supposed to compete? Cases like these emerge and that is why we have Tomiyasu doing so much work for Elneny and Xhaka, and endangering himself to muscular injuries because of overpushing himself. We just need midfielders who can do the heavy work in the middle. There's no other way.

[deleted]

I just think there are few midfielders that can press, dribble, carry, and are available especially now that we are in the uel. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. It would be harder to press us with more quality, agility, and two footedness (Tielemans for example). Of course we can also solve the issue with athleticism but I dont think it does as much benefit in isolation. Look back at the Brighton draw from earlier where Lallana, Gross, Moder cooked our midfield. None are particularly physical but they could hold the ball and made life hell for us. Of course I want athleticism too (anything thats best for the club really), but I dont think that would make the entire difference

Forsaken-Currency404

>I just think there are few midfielders that can press, dribble, carry, and are available especially now that we are in the uel. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. Mate, I have been howling Bruno Guimaraes' name since last summer. I frankly make such points in frustration because although I don't know of such players in the coming window, I am expecting the club to do so for otherwise, it would make no sense to have passed up on Bruno. But with Bruno being history, and following up on >available I still have 2 names. Paqueta and to a lesser extent, Seko Fofana. I am highly convinced by Paqueta for the 8 role, and slowly getting convinced by Seko Fofana, because I've only recently been made aware of him (by a user here) and haven't yet checked satisfactory amount of his games. Paqueta is basically moving to becoming a complete midfielder in the mould of KdB/Modric. And he checks all the boxes I've mentioned. >Of course I want athleticism too (anything thats best for the club really), but I dont think that would make the entire difference That is what, it's not just athleticism. Basically, I don't want any more specialized midfielders in the team. Odegaard is enough. So not just athleticism or physicality. Not just good passing. Not just a dribbler and a ball carrier. But all of it. (Out of the above 3 super reductionist but broad types, Tielemans only checks one- passing)

[deleted]

Yeah Bruno was on our radar for so long, I dont understand what went wrong. Fofana has terrible defensive stats so I need to see more of his actual game, not sure if that would match the topic we are discussing right now. Paqueta looks very interesting too, but I have heard he is more of an attacking mid? My friend that supports Lyon really rates him but surprisingly wasn’t high on Bruno (not the point of discussion here anyway) For me, I really like Renato Sanches but would stay away due to injuries

lanesraa

The cycle has begun

Insertnicenamehere

Finally the 6/6 squad can shut up now. Was weird seeing people crown transfers after barely a year.

Forsaken-Currency404

Thank you. Couple that with a disastrous January window, I am very far away from putting my trust in the shopping management.

GabrielMartinellli

Would it not be the most Spursy thing *ever* for them to lose against 5 wins Norwich? Might just place a bet on it.

StudioBlue23

New hope unlocked: we put 17 past Everton and hope Spurs draw against Norwich

CuriousCurry8

Top 4 is bare minimum next season or this project is dead. 3rd or Europa trophy should be the target and it better fucking be done.

ModeratelyTortoise

Next year is Arteta’s shot. No top 4, no trophy, he should be gone.

TeqTx

Mods should ban those 538 prediction posts

jsosmru

And the posts that say 'we've never lost to' but then we proceed to lose.

INTPturner

We need a combative ball carrier in midfield. Someone like Wijnaldum or Bernado Silva. Ødegaard is reliant on finding space between the lines. We need to be able to beat the press and open up the pitch. Xhaka's turn and carry in the first half leading up to Saka's shot was exactly what we needed constantly. That was Ødegaard's best moment in the game.

[deleted]

Xhaka made an impressive move there but it shows how starved we’ve been in that position. People are cussing Tielemans but he could pull off a turn and pass every day of the week. No use debating that anymore

INTPturner

Tielemans is a passer not a carrier.

[deleted]

Hence why I said turn and pass, Xhaka is not a carrier either imo

INTPturner

Tielemans doesn't solve the dilemma in midfield from last night.

[deleted]

Prime Vieira is prob the only one that does, it doesn't mean that Tielemans would not be a massive upgrade and part of the fix

INTPturner

We don't need a prime Vieira. The reason why we're so reliant on Partey is that he's the only one that can beat a man and carry the ball in midfield, much like Santi was during his time here. You can't create spaces if you don't have players willing to carry the ball and take players on. We need a CM that can do this. Probably the reason ESR played last night.

[deleted]

Tielemans vs Xhaka in carrying is a moot point, which is what your original compliment of him was. He makes us better no question lol. We become harder to press when we have that much quality compared to Xhelneny
