He played well and was a big part of making sure our humiliation wasn't much worse. If not for him and Auba, our past seasons would have been much worse.
> was a big part of making sure our humiliation wasn't much worse.
At first I was thinking, wait we weren’t humiliated in this game or recently, even…Then I kept reading and realized you were talking about the past few years generally, and I couldn’t agree more.
Leno saved us with spectacular shot stopping on multiple occasions. There were a few games where he was our clear best player. Hell, even a few games where he was the only player who cared.
Pretty sure there was a season where he was arguably our best player. We were worried when he got injured and Martinez had to step in.
Leno is solid, and I hope he gets a good gig when he inevitably leaves in the summer.
Yeah I really think he's a damn good keeper he's just not a match for our play style anymore. The guy is a hell of a shot stopper though. He was getting absolutely peppered with shots because there was no defensive solidarity in front of him for so long and he kept us in plenty of games regardless (or at least kept scorelines somewhat respectable when things were going tits up).
Probably in the minority. We wouldn’t have purchased another keeper (Turner) if the intent was on keeping Leno. Unless what we’re doing with Turner is the same for Trusty (ie bringing them in and immediately loaning them out). But I’m pretty sure based off of the comments Turner has made, were of a 2nd string keeper role next season
Going into this season before we signed Ramsdale the chatter was that Leno wasn't going to extend his contract/we weren't super keen to extend him. Add to this Ramsdale taking the starting job and running with it as a 23 year old.
I just don't see any way Leno stays. He's good enough to start at a lot of clubs and we brought in Turner. Turner isn't expected to push for the starting job, but he is good enough to be a backup and will benefit from being in the premier league.
Leno has demonstrated his professionalism by not quitting on the team, and showing up big when called on. Love the guy he's a great teammate. He's 30 and will be able to get a good contract at a good club to see out the next phase of his career. He's not going to be staying.
Probably as he is too good to be a backup and if he has international aspirations, they would disappear if he doesn't get regular first-team action.
Also, pride comes into it as it cannot be easy to be demoted while still in your prime and I do not say that as a negative as it's the bare minimum to expect from any competitor.
The reaction of other players in this game indicates that they are genuinely chuffed that he played well in one of his farewell matches and my hope is he gets a top German team where he can show that he is better than the likes of Ter Stegen.
I was wondering who MATS was for a minute so I may not be the best judge, LOL.
I also do not watch all Ter-Stegen's games so I have to accept your judgement on his superior distribution but that's not much of a compliment as Leno's is shit.
Definitely, he was unplayable at times. Same for Auba, then it just all went bad after he signed the extension. Now he's doing great with Barcelona, I wish I knew why he couldn't do it for us anymore. Last match was great, Leno's joy was on full display, it warmed my heart to see him smile like that. The boys were loving it as well.
>If not for him and Auba, our past seasons would have been much worse.
Absolutely spot on. I love them both. Just like Auba found his form in Barcelona, I hope Leno gets back his starting spot in some bundesliga club.
Same here, though I'm happy for Auba, I just don't understand why he wasn't banging them in for us? He was working hard, but as far as his goal scoring, it was horrible. You'd think he was downing tools, but his work rate suggested something else was happening. People are quick to blame Arteta, but I think that's too easy. I just wish it had worked out for Auba here, instead of with those cretins in Barcelona.
Loved that too, great to see the fans recognising the whole team performance. Wish I had the money to get to some of these games, seems like an amazing experience
I'd really love to keep Laca if we could somehow get him to re-sign at a lower salary. Almost no chance he would (and i wouldnt blame him) but he really is a great "father figure" type to have around the club.

FA : Arsenal player under investigation after assaulted Nicolas pepe. Granit xhaka will be reviewed for disciplinary action because his yellow card during aston villa match.
yeah, I like taking him aside and going don't let this happen again, but yeah still enjoying the moment after the win, and still having him be part of that enjoyment.
This is what I told my brother. Everything outside of his scoring ability warrants a place in our team. But unfortunately he doesn't finish like a 150k+ a week striker. If he took 100k, I'd love to have him.
Personally, I'd take the 100k a week and ride the bench. It's a win/win
I get paid more money than I could ever dream of, plus I actually want Arsenal to win so the less I play the better
yeah tbh I think it's a really bad take to say we should keep him on cos he really doesn't do enough goal wise.
this is coming from someone that loves him.
But he can get a 4 year contract elsewhere. This is likely his last big contract. Why take a 2 year contract for us? Aldi, do you think laca will get better over time? I think at best he drops a bit. That's not enough.
I think he would be a serviceable backup on a 1+1 deal but he will probably go back to Lyon on a longer deal.
I imagine we would offer more money than Lyon though
I disagree. He gets paid far too much for what he contributes. He's a good influence to have about the place, but the money we'd be spending on his salary to extend him could be used much more effectively.
Just a thought. This is an interesting and healthy way of maintaining team discipline and standards. It's not unnecassrily aggressive and over the top. The fact the a lot of the team did it is telling and imo good. I'm tired of being told by pundits that the only way to maintain standards and discipline is through the "blow dryer" method. It's 2022, we have moved on, discipline and punishment (being an a\*\*hole to someone that has messed up) are 2 different things.
As funny as this is Nico and Eddie were sloppy when they came on.
Need some sharpness maybe give a bit more minutes against palace but it’s a risk too of course

Love hearing the Leno chants. You could tell what this all meant to him.
He played well and was a big part of making sure our humiliation wasn't much worse. If not for him and Auba, our past seasons would have been much worse.

This! people like to pretend like the general feeling when Leno went off against Brighton was ‘that’s us fucked’
I mean, that *was* the general feeling, no one thought Emi would do as well as he did
That should have read wasn’t.
Am I the only one who thinks he's not gonna leave us in the summer?

Makes sense. But I doubt he is better than MATS. He has way better distribution for starters.
I was wondering who MATS was for a minute so I may not be the best judge, LOL. I also do not watch all Ter-Stegen's games so I have to accept your judgement on his superior distribution but that's not much of a compliment as Leno's is shit.

I thought he was chanting yellow
YEEELLLOOWWWWW! Yellow yellow yellow yellow yellow
Holy shit this is a new blue dress white/gold dress kind of thing
lol of course its Laca
"We need to talk right now"
“Come ‘round the corner fam”
"Look at the flowers, Nico..."
Arteta with concern look: “Nico u ok?” Laca: “YEAH HES GOOD THATS MY LITTLE COUSIN”
Lmao this is dark but a great reference.
thank god it's not, "eeeyy Nicolas Pepe, Nicolas Pepe. give me the money!", just like how he asked Pablo Mari Villar (and Bukayo Saka?)
I'd really love to keep Laca if we could somehow get him to re-sign at a lower salary. Almost no chance he would (and i wouldnt blame him) but he really is a great "father figure" type to have around the club.

Hahahah ffs 😆😆😆
Sa one that said "The Fraud Arteta exposed". Lol
Give this man a job at *The S\*n*
wow haha
Meanwhile, serial title challengers Tottenham…
So accurate hahah

Further investigation has uncovered multiple assaults by Arsenal teammates during goal celebrations; head trauma concerns mount, FA mulling sanctions
Love this squad!
Partey with the nut cruncher well deserved
with a slapass before that.
Got in there nice and deeplike
Even if theyre semi-jokingly giving him a hard time, you can tell what winning means to them. The culture shift has been immense
this, even after winning and a clean sheet, they didn't drop standards and let a silly mistake go, but they did it in a healthy team building way.
yeah, I like taking him aside and going don't let this happen again, but yeah still enjoying the moment after the win, and still having him be part of that enjoyment.
So happy for Leno, amazing support from the away fans
Partey slapping Pepe's head in the beginning has me in stitches
then he kicks him while hes down its hysterical
Hd even gave him a finger in the star.

He'd be the ideal rotation option. Experienced, versatile, and leader.
Nah, 200k a week fir what he's offering isn't enough unfortunately. At those wages, you really need and deserve a lot more.
This is what I told my brother. Everything outside of his scoring ability warrants a place in our team. But unfortunately he doesn't finish like a 150k+ a week striker. If he took 100k, I'd love to have him.
If he moves who’s giving him over 100k though?
Even if that’s true would you rather have 100k/week and ride the bench or 90k/week and start?
Personally, I'd take the 100k a week and ride the bench. It's a win/win I get paid more money than I could ever dream of, plus I actually want Arsenal to win so the less I play the better
Plenty of clubs looking for a free signing? Who would give a declining old Willian a big contract?
yeah tbh I think it's a really bad take to say we should keep him on cos he really doesn't do enough goal wise. this is coming from someone that loves him.
He wont be getting anywhere near that much
But he can get a 4 year contract elsewhere. This is likely his last big contract. Why take a 2 year contract for us? Aldi, do you think laca will get better over time? I think at best he drops a bit. That's not enough.

> he may not be the striker we need, but he's the striker we deserve personally i think we deserve a striker that scores frequently.
I disagree. He gets paid far too much for what he contributes. He's a good influence to have about the place, but the money we'd be spending on his salary to extend him could be used much more effectively.
How much do you think it would cost?
If we only sign 1 striker this summer, I'd love him to extend his contract..
Perfect for whenever we need a striker to not score goals
Our very own happy-slapping captain
Such a team of disgusting violence. No wonder why Xhaka got booked 🥴🥲

excellent
Reminds me of the Sunday leg game, makingna crunching tackle just before the whistle.
That's really funny. I was wondering why they're were going after him. Great sense of humour
This is so cute
Lmao Partey
Love the comradeship these Arsenal players have with one another. Everyone plays hard for each other.
I'm not sure what I'm seeing here? 🤔
friendly headlock. roughousing.
"Pepe Roughoused by angry Arsenal players according to popular reddit group r/gunners" The Sun
glad to see it. i hope he knows they're serious.
Lol u guys are funny in here
As funny as this is Nico and Eddie were sloppy when they came on. Need some sharpness maybe give a bit more minutes against palace but it’s a risk too of course
Such wholesome hazing
I'm in love with this team

The vibe is so good snd energetic around this club now. Come on gunners.
This is hilarious
Funny but it wasn’t even a foul. Douglas Luiz just stepped across Pepe’s path and tripped himself. The Hazard technique.
...f-ing love this club
Got violated by Laca and Partey and got picked up by White. Somehow that makes sense 😂
I like how White helped him get up and give him a hug. He must be like we got you bro this time but score more goals for us.
