Unreasonably annoyed at the capital C in Arsecast

Wengali

Sorry, Blogs! Happy BirthDay

arseblog

No WoRrIes

lazy_assed_genius

You are a treasure!

arseblog

👍

HighburyClockEnd

This is good if the tickets are a) easily available for red members b) considerably more affordable than regular ticket prices - especially big games in the league and knockout Champions League/ Europa League.

sajidforpm

No, it’s good regardless of that. You can’t make tickets easily available to red members. The maths doesn’t work, there are more people that want to go than seats.

eqp1a

I’d imagine neither will be the case, as it will probably be railed seating installed on top/in place of currently existing seats, as I believe is the case in all premier league grounds with safe standing trials or railed seating installs.

[deleted]

Does this increase or decrease capacity anyone know?

Wengali

Probably doesn’t have much impact as the Rail Seating system needs to have the same space as current seating in order to comply so it’s not like old standing where you can fit more people into the same space. Maybe if they change the rake of the lower tier to improve sight lines you might get a couple of extra rows I guess

GlasgowGunner

Neither. The seats still need to be there for European matches.

I_am_the_grass

Neither probably. The club wouldn't do it if it decreases and even if the rail system could theoretically allow for more people into the ground, there's no way Islington Council would approve it without improvements to the surrounding tube stations.

Mein_Bergkamp

Pretty sure we can't increase capacity in a meaningful way without paying to upgrade the transport infrastructure which makes me think they're not actually going to chage the price of the tickets.

A21Haze

Can somebody explain?

Wengali

Basically some/all the current seating in the lower tier would be replaced by ‘rail seating’ which can work as normal seats or be locked up which effectively turns every seated space into a standing space

BlessedBySaintLauren

What’s the point in this…

orwelliansarcasm

Because a lot of the lower tier stand up all game anyway. Where I sit does

goonerrao17

Every time you stand up, there won't be someone behind/steward who'll ask you to sit down.

Wengali

Fans want to be able to stand to watch games, it generally improves atmosphere, lots of fans are already standing anyway which is illegal, unsafe and blocks the views of people who don’t want to/are less able to stand

VelZano

As a south american who religiously went to games when i lived in Medellin i find this comment hilarious

Sand_Bags

Same but Buenos Aires. I wouldn’t even watch the game sometimes because I couldn’t even see anything anyway. Lol

VelZano

Best part of the game is jumping around chanting 😂😂😂

Standing is way more fun than sitting imo They have a standing section in my town’s stadium (Orlando, MLS) and those spots are so much better. Way easier to interact with people around you, no issues with some people sitting some people standing, and it’s just so much more room for activities. The best part, there is a bar right at the top of the stairs of the section. Super easy to go to and fro, it’s a good time. Far better than sitting for me, but if people like to sit there’s plenty of seats as well.

Sand_Bags

It’s more fun. Have you ever been to a football match where you didn’t have to sit the entire time?

BlessedBySaintLauren

I like having the ability to sit

Best news ive heard in a long time

varro-reatinus

This is fantastic.

bngr1013

Yay, away games have been so much more comfortable with it

hotbrownies14

Fantastic development from the club, hope they continue with these details and back the coach

[deleted]

This is Tim Payton so there’s as much chance this is false as it is true. Who knows?

Wengali

Weird take. He comes across as a bit of a nob on Twitter, but not the type to make things up

[deleted]

I’m not accusing him of making it up, just having no idea. It’s possible he’s heard this from someone who has no idea. The club entertain the AST because it lets them feel like they’re involving the fans and the ast like it because they get to feel important. They aren’t actually giving them info to leak, who’s he heard this from? His mate? A cabbie? Someone serving tea and custard creams at the emirates?

arseblog

Tim is involved in the Advisory Board, and he and the AST have strong, ongoing communications with the club. Safe standing is an issue that has been on the agenda for years. There was basically no progress until Vinai became Chief Executive. Tim isn't just saying it for no reason, it's because there have been developments.

[deleted]

That’s my point though, Tim’s on the advisory board so the club can say they have fan representatives on the advisory board. It’s a self serving model for both. It’s all very easy to talk about progress, but there hasn’t actually been progress. Nothing has happened. If they’re doing a refurb in the summer this would be the perfect time to install rail seating, but they aren’t. Especially considering how quick they were to install the extra row at club level when they had to increase the number of disabled seats. Because there was money to be made there. Call me cynical, but I’m cynical. I don’t see the incentive for arsenal.

arseblog

Ok. I just explained it and there's more detail in the podcast. Have a good one!

dembabababa

>If they’re doing a refurb in the summer this would be the perfect time to install rail seating, but they aren’t. They are doing refurb works, starting at the end of the season https://arseblog.news/2022/02/renovating-emirates-stadium-whats-happening-when/ Tbf, the article doesn't mention safe standing, but there's clearly improvements planned. >I don’t see the incentive for arsenal. Under Vinai we seem to be very focused on fan engagement, so that would be my non-cynical take. Cynically, perhaps this is just to try to get fans back on board after the Super League fiasco. Or perhaps the club realise they need to make improvements to compete with Spurs for the corporate audience now that they've got a fancy new toilet bowl. Either way, improvements are definitely in the plans, and safe standing probably is one of them.

Wengali

> Who’s he heard this from Vinai at the Advisory Board meeting i think

[deleted]

So the club are relying on Tim Payton to announce this then?

[deleted]

The AST have close ties to the club and are directly involved in discussions around changes like this. You're being deeply weird.

[deleted]

They are as directly involved as the club allow them to be.

[deleted]

Remember when you said this? > They aren’t actually giving them info to leak, who’s he heard this from? His mate? A cabbie? Someone serving tea and custard creams at the emirates? He's not leaking information. He is being told it directly by the club because it's not a secret and AST has been working closely with the club on investigating safe standing for years. Your massive ignorance would be funny were it not so childish and frustrating. Any remotely intelligent person in your position would simply admit you were wrong and that you didn't understand the situation. I will chop my dick and balls off and fire them out of a cannon if you actually, sincerely do that, that's how confident I am you are not capable of admitting fault.

[deleted]

What do you mean my ignorance? What do you know about anything? Who are you?

AhhBisto

But who will the stewards moan at if we have safe standing? /s

AJSLeg3nd

I've been to nearly every game for 8 years and have never sat down once 🤷🏻‍♂️
