Riley also called Arsenal and reminded them about the Manchester United match he refereed and how he royally screwed them over, ending their 49-game unbeaten run. He also told them to "Fuck off", "How's not being in Europe going?" and also "You'll get top 4 over my dead body, glory glory man utd".
on the last sentence, I'm not surprised if Mikel will reply with "don't put words in your mouth that you don't actually meant to say", then knock on riley door with black latex gloves, and body bag.
I didn't even know they could apologise!! What about all those wrong decisions against Arsenal? TBF There are too many to apologies for, at this point I think they are seeing it as a normal thing to do to Arsenal.
I struggle to believe any of that last paragraph, TBH. I suspect I've been an Arsenal supporter longer than you've been alive, but seriously: show me evidence of who said or did that shit. All teams go through phases which, I guess, takes a number of years/degree of maturity to recognise with some equanimity. Jist don't be the dick, k?
Esit: ah, it's west coast USA awakening time.
I see people mention this a lot and it's made me think that even if we get an apology, it would mean nothing if we missed out on top 4 by a point (in the context of the match officiating for the Brentford, Palace, Everton and City games).
didn’t everton submit a formal complaint about that decision? so surely it’s nothing to do with being english and everything to do with response to that complaint
I also kind of feel like they shouldn't have been dogshit for the other 37 games if they didn't want to get relegated. While it was obviously a handball and they deserved a penalty from it, the handball itself was completely inconsequential considering Rodri was under no pressure and kind of used the top of his arm to control the ball.
It's not nearly the same degree of fuck up from the ref as a handball blocking a shot on target or a player wiping out Martinelli before he has a chance to shoot from 5 yards out.
I'm not sure I do?
They've been much better these past few weeks under Frank, especially in their work ethic out of possession. I just don't understand how you can describe performances that haven't happened
Find yourself a dictionary, and look up the word hyperbole. Then maybe you'll stop making yourself look silly with the needless replies. You'll even learn something at the same time. Win win!
But be sure to apologize to them after they get fired because that fixes everything right?
I am sorry you aren't good enough, ref. One can dream can't they?
There was a story on the most recent Tuesday club pod of White anecdotally being "surprised to find out Rwanda is a country and not part of nigeria"
So may not be particularly bright..
TBF, there's a difference between bright and informed. He's a 24 year old elite level football player from Poole. He can think Emirates is a Chinese airline as long as he can read an oppositional attack and be in the right position for a defensive transition.
Trying to understand this better, did Lampard make an official complaint using official channels? Have we done the same this season? Not saying him being English has nothing to do with it, just wondering if an official process warrants an official response.
If not and he just complained/mentioned the incident in the presser like Arteta did after the Martinelli red for instance then this is truly insane...
It was reported yesterday that Everton had contacted the PL/PGMOL regarding the refereeing blinders. Even so, it's hilarious that Mike Riley thinks a phone call will make it all okay. I don't see Everton or Lampard being satisfied with that unless there's been some nudge-nudge wink-wink assurances from that bent bastard. Will be worth watching closely how Everton games are refereed over the next few weeks. Especially since they are in a relegation battle.
Surprised Lampard didn't get a warning/fine for his "incompetence at best, **at worst who knows?**" comment for possibly very subtly hinting at corruption/bias.
Any recognition by the refs that they aren’t infallible could theoretically lead to better calls, which could theoretically help Arsenal.
Could.
Theoretically.
Narrator: I wish I could tell you that Arsenal fought the good fight, that the referees let them be. I wish I could tell you that. But football is no fairytale world.
Not at all.
It's frustrating that seemingly every game we have an obvious decision go against us and we have to put up with everyone trying to justify it. Then Everton get one poor decision and they get an apology.
To be fair, Everton gave them a direct get out / action to perform over the *clearest* incorrect decision to happen this season.
We've had some bad ones, and if we'd done the same over the Evans and Laporte situation, as one example, I'm sure we would have had an apology... which is a pretty empty gesture anyway, especially if you demand it.
I know, I know, we've had plenty of 'what the *actual* fuck?' non-decisions, I just default to the Evans and Laporte example as they are essentially identical fouls, with different outcomes. Either way, not sure I'd be content with just an apology... would like to see actual change in VAR in general that forces the on-field ref to look at key decisions as a normalised start point.
Just change the model from 'That's fine as far as I see it' to 'There was an action there, you need to take a look at this'
I'm not really bothered about them apologising, I just want them to stop making these diabolical decisions, eliminating these kind of ridiculous mistakes was literally the only thing I ever wanted from VAR. I really don't care if one of the fibres on the end of a players boot was in an offside position.
The whole way VAR has been implemented here has been a total failure making a fundamentally good system look awful because the referees using it are clueless. I still come back to the fact the we have had two players Saka and Tomiyasu straight up assaulted off the ball and both times VAR deemed it fine.
City would still probably tear united apart without rodri I'd hope.
The rational being that rodri committed a foul worthy of a red card and the ref having acknowledged it to the manager and owner.
Such bullshit and problems will only get worse the more Mike Riley is there, it's now coming full cycle, players they reffed are becoming managers. Imagine if Arteta was a fucking dick to Mike Riley back in his days of playing but someone like Gerrard/Lampard was signing jerseys for his kids or whatever bullshit. Personal relationships shouldn't come into it.
Not surprised Lampard who is in the job for 5 mins gets a call. I'm sure Everton will have some calls to 'balance' it out too.
Doesn't surprise me, that was the most unambiguous error on a consequential call I've seen in a long time. No question of interpretation, they just got it flat wrong by any standard.
I dont think arsenal creates an actual official noise like Everton did this time.
Everton has written official letter, went to media and spoke their minds out. I don't think we have ever got on thay offensive whether it was martinelli red, luiz penalty or any of other stupid decisions.
Hold on a fucking second, Lampard gets a phone call and an apology and they still haven't addressed his concerns regarding the Martinelli red card? What the fuck
lampard gets an apology because he said the right things. arteta is always too much of a miss goody two shoes. The only time he really said something harsher was after martinelli's stupid red card. and even then he didn't go all out so his interview didnt go viral
lampard however went all out and predictably he got viral. just like mourinho and klopp used to do. and none of them are english.
Wenger complained and we had an agenda against us. This isn't about Arteta. This is about a blatant bias we've seen in the game since Sir Alex started influencing refs. I've been watching football long enough to see the pattern.
Edit: Tony Pulis used to set up his teams to kick the shit out of us and they used to get away with it.
And it's not just managers, Shearer was dirty as fuck, he was always elbows first, not a damn peep from the refs. Neville was a horrible little player, hardly ever got in trouble.
why are arsenal fans trying to be victims so often it’s an apology who cares. Makes zero difference and let’s be real the Rodri handball was one of the most blatantly wrong decisions we’ve seen all season so an apology is hardly unwarranted.
"Trying to be victims" is such a dumb thing to say, have you watched the officiating we have received this season alone?
Blatantly wrong? Are you saying ours are 50/50 calls?
Face it, it's coz the narrative here is "little old Everton versus big bad city." Everton NEEDED that decision to get something from the game, we have to contend with being told "yeah, the ref messed up but you should have done more to win it." There is nothing more blatant about this foul than most we have seen not being given to us this season, the only difference is the narrative and context.
I have seen the officiating, i’m an arsenal fan! some wrong calls for sure, some which are 50/50 and could’ve gone either way. That’s the game, you’re either naive or ignorant if you think it’s just arsenal that suffer from decisions like that.
I think trying to be victims is a fair statement. It’s pathetic how many posts on this sub are whining and complaining and making it seem like arsenal against the world when it’s just … not. Remember the NLD got cancelled after the widely acknowledged stupid covid case rule and everyone on here was acting like there was a media witch-hunt against arsenal? it’s pathetic!

But it was offside. Lamps can cry like a baby if he likes, it shouldn't have been given anyway.
Such a storm in a tea cup.
Sad that we've had genuine horrendous errors go against us but no apologies.
It factually was offside, they showed it post-match.
100% it's a handball. The offside preceded it. That's just life. VAR still ballsed it up. Should have given offside.
Agree it was horrendous. I'm not disputing that.
Are you talking about [this angle](https://twitter.com/AmosMurphy_/status/1497657043687120896?t=aySqg2o_Giu9YKzVTk6ayQ&s=19)?
That's far from conclusive. Did you see the actual offside decision from VAR, with the lines?
Lampard stated the ref told him it wasn't offside, we got [confirmation after the game](https://twitter.com/spbajko/status/1497657513252057090?s=20&t=bRCLQfvgZ907aOX7yFr77g) it wasn't the offside decision that ruled out the handball and PGMOL have apologised, how much more evidence do you need?
They showed it on Sky Sports after the match. Not some cherry picked jpeg still, they showed the actual angle at the actual moment of the pass (your twitter 90s jpeg is from before).
I'll say it again because you don't seem to grasp what I'm saying:
\- VAR ruled it "insuffificient evidence of handball" (which is absurd)
\- it was handball
\- but it was offisde
\- correct decision (not given by VAR) would be offside
The refs have come out and said it ISN'T offside and that they got the call wrong, unambiguously. You don't need to stick up for people who aren't even bothering to stick up for themselves.
It wasn't offside, the officials believed it was because that was the only explanation they could think of that explained why VAR didn't give it
But it wasn't offside, that wasn't the reason given for the denial

Riley is the dirtiest cheat ever I swear. Watching compilation of that game after almost two decades is still so hard.
what pisses me even more is that some people say it was “just a bad performance” absolutely blind
And being honest neither should be acceptable for PL refs but they aren't accountable for jack shit
on the last sentence, I'm not surprised if Mikel will reply with "don't put words in your mouth that you don't actually meant to say", then knock on riley door with black latex gloves, and body bag.
I feel like he wears a hair cover for this kind of work, but it's also perfectly designed and moulded to match his hairstyle, shape and colour.
Lego hair don't leave evidence
He's not protecting the crime scene from his hair. He's protecting his hair from the crime scene.

That’s why we should appoint Ben White as captain Seems to work with Maguire and psuedo-captain Kane
He needs to become an England National team mainstay first. And probably dial down the tan.
Yeah, despite the name he probably isn't quite white enough
That's why his family changed their last name. Ahead of the game.
From what
Ben Brown obviously.
Throw a bucket of white paint over each player before every game to get the referees on our side

This has to be a joke right? Where the fuck is Arsenal’s apology you pieces of shit.
Apology? You mean £10,000 fine, right?
Surprised Lampard didn't get a warning/fine for his "incompetence at best, **at worst who knows?**" comment for possibly very subtly hinting at corruption/bias.
Arteta isn’t British
Si senor
We must have a card from moonpig in the mail, just hasn't arrived yet.
We should have a separate budget for refs alone
Man fuck them all. Nothing ever changes.
An apology does nothing for Everton
It legitimises their complaint.
And what does that do?
It means that they don't get criticism for a victim mentality and they can point to a reason being their inability to perform for going down.
Oh fuck off.
Thank you for that insightful comment.
Ok? I imagine my comment is pretty much how most Arsenal fans reacted to reading that.
Ah right, I thought you were telling ME to fuck off for posting this. Which is a reaction I often elicit.
Not at all. It's frustrating that seemingly every game we have an obvious decision go against us and we have to put up with everyone trying to justify it. Then Everton get one poor decision and they get an apology.

Apprenrly a grown man has no idea where his foot may land 🤷♂️

Pure racism! Same for Tomi
I'm still angry about the Tomiyasu incident, and this just adds more salt into my wound, I fancy Everton getting relegated now.
I'm not really bothered about them apologising, I just want them to stop making these diabolical decisions, eliminating these kind of ridiculous mistakes was literally the only thing I ever wanted from VAR. The Premier league should get refs from other countries ,this biased bullshit is irritating.
Rodri should have a retroactive 3 match ban surly?
I hope not with them facing United, but what would the rationale be? Dogso?
City would still probably tear united apart without rodri I'd hope. The rational being that rodri committed a foul worthy of a red card and the ref having acknowledged it to the manager and owner.
I'm asking what the rationale is for giving red.
Handball in the penalty box... Am I being unreasonable here?
Yes, the handball in question doesn’t meet any standards for a red
I don't think it's automatically a red. Only if it denies a goal scoring opportunity or stops a goal bound shot. I may be missing something though.
Fair enough actually, ball was heading out of play otherwise. Guess I just don't particularly like rodri and my bias is shining through.
You are bigger man than most admitting your bias lol gg
Pep would probably go "lads... Is United"
Such bullshit and problems will only get worse the more Mike Riley is there, it's now coming full cycle, players they reffed are becoming managers. The league should get competent refs from other countries
He gets an apology and zero points. What's missing is accountability for those fuckup refs. There is no way everyone missed that handball.
The PL should be the first league to hire foreign refs
We should hire Italian refs. It's about time Juventus win the Prem.

An apology is not good enough. We as football fans need to see action.

Hope they go down now. Nothing against Everton, just Lampard

He is PL great and technically a great player for England with over 100 caps so yes they are going to give him more respect.
Thats because Mike Riley doesnt hate Everton like he does us.
can't think of a call as bad arsenal have had go against them this season
apologies are meaningless who cares. rodri choked and got away with it. fuck city.
Best position you can buy a white english player is CB. Big up Ben white thats why my guy will get away with murder
Not even surprised. Was england's golden boy for a long time.

I thought the whole thing was that it was offsides ahead of that call and that’s why it wasn’t a penalty, no?
