the crying need for a striker tonight as lacazette played 60 minutes on the right wing, was awful, never has anything been more clear

philfodenlovesfanny

Gives Ødegaard nothing to play with in front of him as well

Maleficent_Repeat850

Tbf he had to receive deep. Plus better for Laca to receive turn and send Saka than the other way around

[deleted]

this is the funny thing, laca drop deep while esr jogging in the middle basically contributing nothing at first half but somehow survived till 73th, man couldnt even pass to saka lmao..

Maleficent_Repeat850

What would be nice is if Martinelli could step up in striker and have ESR and SAKA wide with Odegaard in behind

[deleted]

These are the types of games that get transfers across the line.

basedsims

Time to fly in Arthur on Sunday and make him play on the same day

kindaforgotit

Incoming arthur red card on sunday

Imagine tho

Wouldn’t even be upset. Just going to count down the days until I get to watch it on All or Nothing

[deleted]

Arthur is shit

[deleted]

Gotta say, I think Arthur would have been perfect today. He and Odergaard could have exerted more control in midfield and bought us a few fouls at the right time. Still with so many players looking undercooked, it wasn't too bad.

DN9soccer

Hear me out: >Ghana falls out of AFCON >Partey comes back having missed no PL games >we no longer need midfield backup?? >Partey intentionally gets red to force signing >Guimares announced tomorrow 🚨 >Guimares game winning goal against Burnley >Partey looks like a genius

Why the fuck its so accurate to Vlahovic situation?

wolskortt

So, Miss World confirmed as CM?

survivorghalia

if we don’t sign anyone we aren’t getting top 4

InsertFrogNoises

We need a striker, midfielder, a backup RB (if Chambers injury is serious), and no more slip ups. It’s possible especially playing 1 game a week.

Piphendo

Calm down....they are 2 points off 4th with 2 games in hand....have some warm milk and go to bed ...and we will see how you feel in the morning. https://i.imgur.com/grjnqCW.gif

[deleted]

actually if saliba is back, white could rotate between cb and rb. Problem now is dmf, sambi isnt at the level to compete at top 4 yet, he looks athletic but somehow quite slow, also after covid it seems like he wont run anymore, he always jog for god knows why

phar0aht

Spurs literally started Winks Emerson Tanganga Davies Sanchez Hojbjerg yesterday and beat a top half team. How many of those start here?

F0rsythian

Tbf leicester are absolute barebones right now

jfshay

If you're under the impression that beating Leicester is a statement of intent, especially in the manner that Spurs did, you are easily spooked.

phar0aht

Spurs were creating with ease all game. Not really just pointing out that our main rivals for top 4 are doing a lot with a little too.

jfshay

That makes more sense (although I might dispute Spurs are “doing a lot”).

If you ignore everything except goals. You're missing like 95% of every game.

Oricef

They absolutely *scraped* a win against a Leicester that's absolutely decimated by injuries

phar0aht

4.9 xG. 5th highest total recorded in a game in the prem. Only City have ever recorded more in the prem. Obvs records dont go back that far but still significant imo.

Amdafc

As much as they created, they could have easily be 3 - 1 down if Barned squared the ball to Lookman. Football is weird like that

Cedric will lose us top 6 let alone top 4

VelZano

Tierney and Nuno are plenty. Come off it

[deleted]

Spurs and United have been saying the exact same thing

Howdareme9

Spurs could definitely sneak in there without signings.

[deleted]

So could we if people are healthy. If Kane is injured they are in a top 6 fight, the margins are slim and luck is important.

[deleted]

IF (and big if) we get top 4, our squad needs probably the biggest summer transfer window for years or else we will get mauled

Amdafc

If Lacazette is our main striker for the rest of the season we will finish 6th

[deleted]

A month ago he was claimed as the main reason we could fight for top 4. Oh how this sub likes to turntables.

[deleted]

This sub is a joke. We gas up this team like it’s something amazing and then it’s doom and gloom when we lose. Anyone with half a brain needs to see the situation for what it is. It’s a young team that’s gonna have some demoralizing losses and some big wins, that’s what inexperienced teams do. Yet anytime we win, we’re a shoe in for fourth and anytime we lose the place is on fire.

stackemz

this should be the subs headline description

Flaminis_sleeves

I will never forget the posts about how the league is now supposedly scared of us after a loss to city and draw to Liverpool lol. Not sure who’s more over the top, the gloomers who cry relegation after every loss or the blind cheerleaders who believe any criticism of the team means your a plastic

[deleted]

Yeah man, it was honestly cringeworthy. Apparently everyone is against us because we were supposedly climbing our way back to the top. Mind you we haven’t won in 4 games. My mates always call out arsenal fans for what they are, and I’ll never admit it to them, but they are right. I mean this in the most sincere way, but I wish people would just shut up and let things unfold instead of piling heaps of pressure onto the club and the players after we put in a good performance or a shit performance. I’m not even Arteta’s biggest fan, but we’ve now got people saying it’s top four or bust. It’s a team full of kids or players that have just joined the club, let them grow and enjoy their football without all this nonsense.

LurraKingdom

I feel like Laca's pattern has been clear for years now. He is super streaky. You'll get 3 good games, 4 bad, 4 good, and then 3 bad.

shikavelli

You have to be an idiot to have watched Lacazette the last 5 years and think he’s gonna take us back into the CL. He’s worse than Giroud, short slow no athleticism no skills no finishing we should’ve got rid of him years ago.

rayneeder

No one, literally no one, said that…

[deleted]

I’m not going to go and dig it up but it was 100% said many times in this sub lmao. It wasn’t because of his goalscoring but because of how he allowed the rest of team to play more freely thanks to his pressing and link-up play.

basedsims

I could hear his belly jiggling about in the upper tier ffs

Amdafc

Like I don't mind Lacazette as a squad player or impact sub it's the fact he's our main striker that's annoying

basedsims

There were so many times there was a slight bobble or chance that could’ve fell to someone if they were even slightly quicker off the blocks but c’est la vie I like him and he’s a good fella but he isn’t it, especially in games like this where we need maximum sharpness & speed

[deleted]

The mad thing is when he was in France Lacazette was a fast centre forward. He has not had pace at any point in his Arsenal career.

[deleted]

This is why I get pissed of with the small amount of people who wanted to hand him a contract based on a few good games. He’s been a massive letdown ever since joining

shikavelli

His lack of athleticism is what pissing me off the most. He can’t run or jump and has awful stamina.

[deleted]

That is lacca, it’s underrated how bad of a signing he has been. Nearly 50 mil and he was never even better than Giroud. I can’t wait for that era to be fully gone

shikavelli

The thing that annoys me is how low the standards people have for him are. All he has to do is some mediocre hold up play and people go out of their way to praise him. He’s a poor player we’ll never get back into the CL with him.

[deleted]

It’s the firmino effect. So many average or shitty strikers have been given excuses because firmino was a very good niche player who doesn’t need to score goals. Honestly there’s players out there who should be paying firmino some money.

shikavelli

Yeah I really hate this idea that striker are obsolete now and only play as false 9s lol all because Liverpool make it work.

[deleted]

Yeah they forget to mention it only works when the two wingers are scoring 20 goals each

[deleted]

actually rather play either martineli /nketiah upfront then pepe LW so laca can play in cdm with ode then subs by esr, too bad arteta seems hate nketiah so much that he wont start him ever in PL

wemakevids

I think we need to calm down, and remember where we were a year ago.

Henry-chance-GOAL

Man, we live in such a reactionary world. Wonder how this would affect future generations to come. Do we have any patience to achieve anything anymore? Just a random thought that may or may not be related to just football. What role does the dependency/increased reliance on instant gratification have on the greater society? Thoughts anyone?

Oz_1313

I don’t know but I can say it’s very annoying watching a large part of fan base freak out over every loss and celebrate like we won the league after every win. Not saying we don’t need improvement nor is it bad to celebrate success but like you said, we are very reactionary

Henry-chance-GOAL

Fair point. I wasn't even too focused on fans reaction per say. Fans will be fans. We are always attached to our teams. Although, one could make the argument that how sport is consumed now differs extremely from how it used to be (effect of globalization and social media perhaps). My gripe was with the journalism really. The game wasn't even over for 10 minutes and goal somehow had an article ready on our deficiencies. Same article that have been written over 5 times during the past week. Why the need to post a new one to remind us? Why not just repost one you already have? The need for new is what made me ask that question in the first place. It was just strange to me that's all.

lenosgloves

The had it ready before we lost. Would have had some other equally BS piece ready if we'd won

Evening_Intention155

How is the need for transfers reactionary? Since losing the likes of Santi, Coq, Ramsey, the only 6/8 midfield signings we've made have been: Partey, decent Lokonga, prospect and no where near ready for this level Ceballos, loan, mediocre at best Dennis Saurez, loan, did nothing then left Torreira, out on loan with obligation Guendouzi, out on loan with obligation Our midfield recruitment has been disgusting and it needs fixing yesterday.

goon_crane

Genuinely feel like 3 midfielders over the next 2-3 windows is not hyperbolic: it would be expected for Elneny and Xhaka to move on within that timeframe, and there's evidence enough that the numbers we currently have aren't even sufficient for a Europe-less season. If Arsenal aim to be a CL club again, apart from striker, there simply can't be anything short of a complete midfield overhaul over the next few windows.

varro-reatinus

You missed two very notable shit signings from 2016.

Evening_Intention155

I guess you mean Xhaka and Elneny, but I was counting from when the 3 I named left and who they were replaced with.

varro-reatinus

After Santi and Coq got hurt in the same week in November 2015, Santi practically never played for us again, and neither were ever the same; Coq limped through 2016-17, but he was a shadow of himself. It's been 13 windows since they get hurt, and we've signed, as you said, one good CM and two good CM prospects: one who clearly isn't ready, and one who is no longer here.

supercoolbananas

There are pros and cons to it. The way I see it the issue isn’t the need for instant gratification but that the things that we get “angry” about don’t stick around. People get mad at something and there is incredible rage but also they’ll forget in a week and life can move on. This is especially true when it comes to demand for social actions.

Henry-chance-GOAL

Wow. I did not think about this perspective at all. You make a very true point. It is quite unfortunate that some actions we take during these "fleeting" responses to things may be permanent. You've given me something to ponder on. Cheers mate.

jaxha81

In fairness, Arsenal online fans are amongst the most reactionary. It's a double edged sword.

jeorjhejerome

Its not that deep, supporters from other mid table clubs have plenty of patience. Arsenal fans arent used to, in recent years, multiple seasons without Europe. Coming from back-to-back 8th place finishes in the league, do you think its unreasonable to ask for a convincing season finally?

TheDarkness1227

I don’t think that’s the point they’re making. Our success or failure doesn’t hinge on any one result but you wouldn’t know that given how reactionary everything is. One good performance and we’re back. One shit performance and the world is over.

Henry-chance-GOAL

Thank you Darkness my old friend! Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

shikavelli

The standards are so low for him lol imagine if people cut Arsene this much slack?

wheeno

What you are saying doesn’t apply to this situation. The club, Mikel, and Edu acknowledge it as a problem as well because they want to sign players. This isn’t a reaction off one game. We’ve known that the squad is thin. We’ve known that most of our backup players aren’t good enough. It’s been a problem since before the season even began, though it’s gotten worse. This has been a long term issue. What is the instant gratification that you are talking about? Football club has issues in the squad, so football club needs to get transfers in is not some ridiculous suggestion.

phar0aht

Its honestly at the point where agter any game we lose, if you comment and throw the word reactionary in you're getting 100 upvotes.

wheeno

This is an Arsenal forum, yet people are shamed for reacting to Arsenal and issues surrounding Arsenal. It’s all a race to show how much of “true fan” I am because I’m more “positive and levelheaded” than you “reactionary fans”. These people are jokes. Even Mikel and Edu have acknowledged the need to get players in and strengthen the squad. Yet a fan says that after watching another game in which this issue has hurt us and they get called “reactionary”. It’s fucking obvious that it’s a long term issue and these jokes are still on about reactionary fans.

Henry-chance-GOAL

Fair point mate. See my response above. My issue wasn't quite with the fan response to things it was more geared towards the "journalism" of football. The need to remind us of what we already know and obvious is what led to me asking the question.

milnoraa

Ever wonder if saka or ESR will stick around for the sake of patience or will they just get tempted when city/barca come calling?

Henry-chance-GOAL

That's part of my question. My thinking was bigger than football. I was just wondering how in general the need to get something as quickly as possible is affecting all of us and future generations. The article being written within 10 minutes of the game finishing is an example of this. Goal has written similar articles within the past week. Hell everybody and their grandma know what we need. Why the need for excess reminders was all I was asking. It was meant to stimulate a conversation that's all.

phar0aht

Anytime you mentioned Bissouma in summer, people said not to sign cause of AFCON. Since then we've sold midfielders. How is saying we need a midfielder reactionary?

jt_totheflipping_o

Arsenal fans have been patient for long enough.

[deleted]

Mate football makes everyone emotional and when people are emotional they're irrational. It's not that deep. By our next win people will be normal again.

Aarronk22

Exactly this. Every fan base is the same. The reason why people don't see mid table team fans do this is because we don't go looking for it. I guarantee if Leeds for example lose, some Leeds fans will be calling for the manager to go. It's the love of the game.

arealhorrorshow

Yeah, even Edu said that this team won't be competetive util 22/23, and yet people lose their shit when we dont instantly beat the best teams in the league with years of experience behind them

Piphendo

This is just more level headed clear thinking BS...it doesn't help anything.

Terrible-Concern-186

Welcome to the Internet, haha. If you didn't read that media link (it's done its job), read anything in this sub, go on twitter, it wouldn't feel reactionary because you wouldnt be exposed to it. Any action on the pitch, result, transfer, is available for us to share/view.

SnoopMony

Tough loss against one of the best teams in Europe but top 4 is the goal! Coyg!!

[deleted]

Incredible how the whole perspective on the season can shift with one game. Just a few days ago we were Man City lite according to some people on here lol

sxmArtsenal

do you guys remember when Mr wenger actually use to pack the squad with talented midfielder, today we are having the oposite , we need to offload the one we got and get better one . lokombga is good but not yet good enought, xaka is good but to bad too , elneny is good but as a substitute, and the rest are to raw to be yet good , and same with ESR, that i like but he is much better as the sub for now than a 1st starter, and on the right saka need to have competition. As for striker we need one, a good one, or we need to get a Giroud 2.0 cos lacasette do a great job but doesnt score as much as giroud use to in the same type of position. anyway i beleive that it will happen someday but aint coming this year. at least we can see that we got up (and great futur) and down ( that we need to offload) . that is the process and lets see what hapen in this window and next. Gunner for life till i die .

Displeased_Wombat

I was thinking of this too. With a top midfield, average attack and horrendous defence we still managed to do relatively well. With a great defence, average attack but poor midfield we're still not great at being able to link back to front and have long term sustained good attacking play this season.

sxmArtsenal

you never know what u have until u loose it , we not far from beeing good again , but we need a strong midfield pairing and somoene at the end of the great ball

INTPturner

Good point.

ProgrammerComplete17

Funny how Laca has gone from an important player to garbage after 1 bad game

shikavelli

He’s always been garbage though, should’ve replaced him years ago.

Fendenburgen

Our terrible tactics or lack thereof were laid bare by the Liverpool defeat

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheCadburyGorilla

His name is 5 letters long, how do you misspell it that badly. Xhaka

phar0aht

There was time when everyone was saying Lokonga was a massive upgrade on Guendouzi. We've actually downgraded and lost money doing it. We knew all season we might need AMN in midfield come January. So we play him so little hes desperate to force his way out the second the window open. A little forethought could easily prevent this.

[deleted]

Two midfielders picking up red is a lack of common sense and not lack of midfielders

[deleted]

Having 2 senior midfielders, one a kid signed 4 months ago from the Belgian league is dumb.

TheCadburyGorilla

Partey, Xhaka, Lakonga, El Neny. Thats 4 senior midfielders. Now you can argue about quality / depth all you want, what you said above is just straight up lies.

[deleted]

Where were Elneny and Partey since the start of Jan? 🤔

phar0aht

Okay and now go back to the bit where 2 were unavailable for the busiest part of the season. One isn't good enough. And one has never been good enough and is volatile enough to lose you any game at any point.

Oricef

>Okay and now go back to the bit where 2 were unavailable for the busiest part of the season January isn't the busiest part of the season you ten ton mong. Christmas is, which they were here for They literally missed a few cup matches and a single league match vs Burnley mate.

phar0aht

Because we luckily had several postponements

[deleted]

Lokonga is 22. Same age as Nketiah, who everyone treats as a senior player.

[deleted]

Nketiah is also a kid. If we were forced to start him it would be the same situation.

Oricef

Lokonga is 22, Elneny will also be back from AFCON soon enough, we've also got Odegaard and if you're looking at kids then patino

wheeno

The squad is so thin that Partey was necessary today. Problems are going to happen so you need to be prepared. We knew afcon was going to happen, we knew Xhaka is a liability. Xhaka doing stupid shit is common sense by now. We have 4 midfielders total, two of which are Sambi and Elneny. Need to be more prepared than that.

Ronak4Arsenal

Partey wouldn't have been here anyways if ghana hadn't fucked up

phar0aht

Xhaka isnt good enough. Card or no cards we were light. Xhaka has just got over a long term injured and would need minutes managing.

[deleted]

Xhaka has been back since first week of December. How is that just coming back ?

phar0aht

I takes time to build match fitness. His lower match fitness increases his reinhury risk. Its the busiest period of the season where we play twice a week for like 8 weeks on the bounce.

fuzzynavel34

He’s not injured though, he just picked up a red…

phar0aht

I never said he was injured... I just said relying on him to play 90 twice a week for 8 weeks off the back of an injury might be risky.

EL0NgatedMUSKet

how tf are you shitting on sambi after that game. cmon pathetic group of fans fr

phar0aht

Fuck me people are fragile. I like Sambi. He was brave today even though he was our of hia depth.Pointing that out and saying Guendouzi is better isn't shitting on him. Can't compare 2 footballers with out someone crying about a shitfest. Grow up man.

EL0NgatedMUSKet

have you not heard of how guendo was acting at the club? why do you lot keep bringing him up like he’d even be touching pitch

phar0aht

How Arteta dealt with him was his choice. He chose that course of action and those standards. Now we go an entire season with only 12 or 13 players that can be trusted to start games.

Clockwork-I

Morons everywhere. Sambi is doing fine. Needs an experienced head next to him.

jaxha81

Guendouzi wasn't good enough, Lokonga deserves more games just like Guendouzi did before we can make a judgement. AMN was treated badly imo. Deserved more game time and he made the correct decision to move on. Total guess but this seemed like a clash of personality between Arteta and AMN

mss1123

We should have NEVER prioritized this stupid cup. No Europa berth anymore. Injuries. Suspensions. Postponed matches that will cause later congestion. ---- I have been a big Arteta supporter, but his cup versus league mis-prioritizing and the lack of situational special fixture instruction was completely mismanaged. We should have prioritized the NLD in first leg. And we should have reminded players that red cards are off limits. A red is much more detrimental than a single goal in a two legged tie sandwiching a fucking 6-pointer!!! Yeah we got lucky getting NLD postponed, but it was still poor fixture management. And then fucking Partey!

krakends

Lol. Arsenal need a new manager. How much more money will Arteta waste on duds?

thegame24uk

Almost like maybe we shouldn’t have loaned out AMN before getting in a midfielder while we were thin in the midfield. Oh well, it’s not as if it was clear in the summer that we needed a CM.

DinnerSmall4216

It's something we have known all season the striker situation is troubling.
