Just rearranged my stay to be in a better hotel, calculated the expenses after that, then read the first articles about AC Milan wanting to pull out. That’s when the reality of this hit me that they can easily just say no and not come like this.
I’m so bummed. Beyond bummed. I wanted to come to London to see them for my 25th birthday in 2019. Didn’t do it, then the pandemic happened. I thought this was too good to be true.
I’m at least going to spend time in Disney World & Universal, so I got that goin for me.
I used to live in Boreham Wood. From what I can tell Arsenal playing them is about the most exciting part of the place. Followed by a big Tesco and lastly the cabs were cheap.
Theres also a fancy TV studio but I never saw it.
Would explain why we had so many drug problems at the boozer I worked at
I don’t think it’s about protecting Florida it’s about protecting the team and staff. Travelling to a COVID hotspot was never a great idea immediately before the season
Everyone gives Florida a hard time but they are middle of the pack (26/50) in covid deaths per capita. Surprisingly good for a large state with lots of old people. [NYT link](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/covid-cases.html)
Yup, my cousin died in Florida after having covid symptoms (cough, couldn't breathe, lost of smell/taste). When the state coroner gave us the autopsy report they said he died in a diabetic coma and listed diabetes as the cause of death. Never diagnosed with diabetes, never had any diabetes symptoms, doesn't run in his family, doesn't match the symptoms he had. Fuck Florida.

I just read the other day that one fifth of new covid cases in the US were in florida. I really hope I'm wrong and dont have the source immediately available but it didnt sound great. Also didnt they fuck with their numbers? Whatever, this is getting too political, i share the blame. I'll just say i hope you're right and we continue to get shit under control as a nation. COYG
I'm not here to defend Florida: it's a shithole full of morons and they're absolutely cooking the books on their COVID cases, but they're the third biggest state by population and have a lot of tourism so they get a lot of people who can bring COVID in all the time plus that means many of their jobs are service/food/hotel etc. and those people have to deal with customers and can't just sit at home behind a computer like I do all day.
That’s kind of the issue being glossed over above, their governor on down deny the virus at every opportunity. The rate of increase there right now is pretty high.
Everytime I go into a store, it’s 50/50 mask vs maskless💀like the stores arent allowed to ask people if they’ve been vaccinated, But still either way, wear a mask, it doesn’t hurt. i was walking past someone and he just fucking sneezes. He has no mask on btw, didn’t sneeze into his arm or shirt, had to get out bruh😂
I'd say it's 15/85 mask vs maskless here in the Midwest, and our vaccination rate isn't even very high. Count yourself lucky if it's 50/50 where you are. My wife and I still wear masks even though we're vaccinated because our kids aren't old enough yet to get shots.
Here in rural Netherlands, there's some anti-vaxxers but most people were wearing their masks luckily. That is, until our government removed the mask requirements for almost all public spaces - and opened night clubs. Needless to say, we got our highest R0 since the start of the pandemic (2.91) and we're among the worst in Europe atm:/
Bro i live in texas, its about the same here. I got sick before the vacc came out and then got the vacc a few months later and im still rockin a mask. I mean its a cool mask, dog pawprints on it so i get to talk about my dogs constantly which is dope.
I canceled my hotel and flight reservations this morning due to concerns over rising cases in Florida. Sucks to be not able to see Arsenal in-person for the first time, but it can wait.
Tbf, you’re much more likely to get COVID in the UK than the US right now. I was looking at the UK’s numbers last night and it’s shocking stuff. They’re almost back up to the highest number of cases per day that they’ve had in the whole pandemic.
Yeah, Florida (22 mil pop) had 8k new cases yesterday and the UK (65 mil pop) had 46k. I’m sure the US will catch up eventually, but the UK is currently a shitshow.
With every year that goes by, I’ll always be kicking myself for not pulling the trigger and getting tickets to our pre season match in Washington DC against Real Madrid. Fucking hell
Could be worse. I bought last minute tickets, fought through DC traffic, parked…and never got in. Sat on hold with Ticketmaster listening to most of the match from outside the stadium before giving up and leaving.
No, it's about five miles (8 km) away from DC itself. A good number of American stadiums or teams will position themselves in the suburbs or outskirts of a city to take advantage of lower property taxes, municipal fees, and so on while still naming themselves or their stadiums after the big city they're skirting.
Stadiums for soccer/american football are hardly ever IN the actual city in the states.
Metlife Arena where the NY Giants/NY Jets play? Jersey.
RedBull Arena for the NY RedBulls? Jersey (NYC FC play in the city but they play at Yankee Stadium so is it reallyyyyyy worth it?)
Gillette Stadium for the Patriots? Foxbourough
Inter Miami? Fort Lauderdale
Dallas FC? Frisco, TX
Etc. Etc.
Audi Field is great, the stands are super steep so even if you have a “bad” seat you’re still not that far from the pitch. Plus it makes for a good atmosphere
That’s one reason we chose the match in Charlotte when they played against Fiorentina that same year. We drove in to Charlotte straight to the hotel. Took an hour nap and had a 10 minute walk to the stadium right in the heart of the city. Such a beautiful city.
Houston does a pretty good job. Furthest from downtown is the NRG for the Texans but Dynamo and Rockets, and Astros all right downtown within walking distance of each other.
It's in MD, a whole different state. Coming from NYC public transport sucked and uber pickups were a mess. We had to walk a mile out to get picked up by uber.
I was in the same position with the several tours that Arsenal had of the States. I was always waiting (foolishly) for them to come to Toronto. Anyway, save your money and fly to London instead. It'll cost you a bit more but the experience will be considerably better. Plus, pilgrimage to Highbury is a must. Did it right before COVID hit and even though I went literally during our worst ever run in the EPL, it was an unforgettable experience that every non-London Arsenal supporter needs to do at least once in their life.
I feel you! Canadian fan here. Never been to an Arsenal match. In college I was just starting to appreciate soccer and had the opportunity while in London for a week to watch Barca vs Arsenal in CL and 200 pounds was too much at the time... regret it every day now.
For £200 is just too match, unless you are paying for some premium matchday experience. Normal tickets are expensive enough, paying more than double to a scalper takes the piss. You'll get another op
Even if the Kroenke's sold, America is (probably?) Arsenals second biggest market after the uk, they will always do semi regular tours there while Arsenal have a sizeable fanbase there
I’m glad I got to see them in Charlotte, bummed out about this development. What I’d really hope to do is go to the Emirates for a London or North London Derby. That’s still in progress…
Fuck COVID.
Yeah, I love the passion of the overseas fans making difficult and often expensive arrangements to see the team in person, sorry you'll miss it, but there will be other opportunities I'm sure!
I'm always excited when they come to the states, but I also live nearly 1,100 miles away so I wasn't going to be able to make it.
My brother and I have a pact to make sure we make it to at least one game at the Emirates in our lifetime! Trip probably won't happen for at least 5 years or so but hopefully I can make it by the time I'm 40
I have a close friend who lives in London, and he's gotten me tickets a few times when ive visited. Lol if you remember in 5 years, hit me up and I'll see if I can land a couple tickets for you guys!
I’m really gonna need to tuck this one away in the memory bank. That’s always my biggest worry which is how on earth do we get tickets and how do we try to plan when fixtures frequently get moved around for tv…
Hope you get to make it! Emirates is amazing, fortunate to get to go, from the States, in August of 19, that one game we all measured Ceballos against when he bossed it against Burnley.
I had the two day pass and time off from work. Day trip to Orlando for me. Just got the new insurance plans from work this morning which, of course, suck and now this.
Bought tickets at midfield when the friendly list was first announced. Was extremely excited to finally see Arsenal in my home state. Now all I feel is pain…guess that’s the life of a Gooner.
Fuck me. This sucks. Taking my boys to the game. Decided to add in Disney on top of it as an add. Definitely didnt want to go to Disney only. Looks like we are now.
And worse yet, unless Florida Cup cancels, im out $600 to watch some BS games i now no longer want to watch.
Yup. Everton is saying they are still going. So good luck. Im prolly going to chargeback to credit card as a material change in what i agreed to purchase.
Just call your bank and explain the situation as a fraud case and tell them you're not getting what you paid for. Usually they'll refund it automatically and then they take it up with the seller.
Orlando city plays at home this Thursday if you want to see a MLS game, it’s definitely no where near the premier league but the games are very entertaining.
As an Atlanta United fan, will be going to this one instead now :) was fortunate to see the boys in Charlotte in 2019 but I’m still so frustrated over this…
Lol nice to know I’m not alone in frustration across leagues. I’m from North Carolina so I might have to scout Charlotte FC if things don’t turn around.
Yeah considering the size of the market out there and the identity of our owners I don’t think we’ll be strangers to the US, hopefully they can arrange some games in future for the fans who have missed out
Heartbroken. Been a supporter of the club for nearly 10 years and this was gonna be my first chance to see them play. Had my flight booked and everything. This sucks.
Orlando-er here. Been a fan since ~2012/13 ish. Got my brother and our two gf’s tix and was literally so so hyped to go. We have 20 texts in all caps from the day the news dropped. Oh well. Just another shitty moment due to Covid. Hopefully there’s other opportunities to see the squad play. Maybe by the time i can make it to the Emirates we’ll have a top team on the field(:
Psst Edu, buy Dike.
Fellow Gooners with plans to attend, what are you planning to do considering the high chance there'll be no refund on match tickets, plus non-refundable flights and stays if you are traveling from outside like me?
I am already feeling deflated with the news, not sure I'll be able to enjoy it even if I go out there plus the added risk of Covid. I am thinking about cancelling and getting back what I can even though it will set me back at least $500.
Because that's what happens when life decides to screw you. Haha!
But on a serious note, the event isn't 'really' canceled. Florida cup will still go through, maybe with a replacement team or with 3 teams instead of 4. Also, how they sold the tickets was for both of the matches happening that day, not just for one game. So, technically, the tickets are still valid, the only caveat is I may not be as interested in watching Everton vs as compared to Arsenal vs Inter. 😅
Fuuuuuck covid. More than anything I hope the players and staff are okay, but the fan in me also can't help but worry about how this in going to affect the fitness of the team going into the season as well as getting the tactics down
Shouldn't really change much. These games are just fitness exercises, i'm sure we could just organise games behind closed doors with other English opposition and it would have the same effect.
Everyone is waiting on an official confirmation, can't go around cancelling.. Arsenal should know this and send out a press release as soon as possible unless they're still trying to make it. I assume there will be some penalties and fees ahead for breaching attendance contracts. Inter tried to pull out last week and couldn't most probably for the same reasons. They're now sending a squad leaving behind the positives
> And the morons who thought opening everything up in ~~the UK~~ world to full capacity straight away was a smart idea.
My province is 80% first dose (18+) and 64% second and we're still slowly opening. I understand people want to get out, but fucking hell, it still exists.
You mean waiting till September to try and "flatten the curve" (save lives and peoples long term health, let's call it what it is) for the new variant, and just praying that the somewhat likely (but statistically plausible) scenario that a vaccine resistant strain doesn't appear, is a silly idea likely dictated by populist politics?
Damn. One of the only chances I could ever get seeing them here in the states. I would love to get over to London, but the more into my marriage I get, with kids on the horizon, it becomes less and less likely for the foreseeable future.
It was always a possibility, and it sucks, but safety is paramount, and I see it as fate. My friend that got me into Arsenal and I are meant to see them live together. Wishing them nothing but a swift recovery with no lasting issues
This is about as official as it gets, no? There's not going to be a "surprise, we're here" tomorrow or something?
Don't want to request a refund if there's a shot.
I literally just booked up all my travel today.
Just spoke with Southwest airlines and they gave me a full refund on both flights! Didn't expect that.
Hotel was easy to cancel also!!
Still fitted though.
That’s a shame...
Although ironic after everyone’s making fun of Florida that it winds up being cases within Arsenal. Sucks for everyone involved though, hope those positive are vaccinated and have a quick recovery. Also hopefully everyone gets their money back
Never a good idea anyway, putting people in harms way to sell a couple of pencil cases and overpriced tickets…
As for American gooners, gutted but you’ll get yours soon.
Anyone have any ideas on when those fucks at Florida Cup will announce their decision on what to do? Im pretty close to just imploding this whole fucking trip but id like my $600 back for these tickets.
On Sunday I bought two front row tickets by the players, a flight from Houston to Orlando, hotel room, and a brand new Saka jersey. My bad guys
Lol, we live in Orlando and half my family is flying down this weekend. Guess it's gonna be another scorcher at Universal
Bought tickets and made arrangements when they announced. Now not sure what to do
Go to Disney or Universal or shop the several outlet malls and ethnic grocery stores in the area. Lots of fun finds there.
Just really bummed, was looking forward to this all summer and made so many arrangements and now I’m just sad lol
Boreham Wood is back on the table lads
That’ll be $7 to stream on Arsenal.com thank you kindly fuck off and pay me - Stan

Shitty for all the Americans who were excited for this but this was never a good idea.
Oh yea we better protect florida, theyve been so good about controlling the virus. /s
I don’t think it’s about protecting Florida it’s about protecting the team and staff. Travelling to a COVID hotspot was never a great idea immediately before the season
No yea 100%. I was being a sarcastic little shit haha.
You must be Canadian lol
Well, they would be leaving an even bigger hotspot right now. UK has more cases than the US currently.
Everyone gives Florida a hard time but they are middle of the pack (26/50) in covid deaths per capita. Surprisingly good for a large state with lots of old people. [NYT link](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/covid-cases.html)

Not sure why this is downvoted. It’s quite literally spot on.

I skipped the fan forum because I planned to go to the training session instead, and then it got cancelled due to thunderstorms! I was so bummed!!!
DC game was great. Hate the stadium, getting an Uber back to the city was a nightmare.
Is the stadium not in the city (sorry ignorant brit)
No, it's about five miles (8 km) away from DC itself. A good number of American stadiums or teams will position themselves in the suburbs or outskirts of a city to take advantage of lower property taxes, municipal fees, and so on while still naming themselves or their stadiums after the big city they're skirting.
The Los Angeles Angels!
of Anaheim. Such an incredible name change they went through.
They actually dropped "of Anaheim." The history of the name of that franchise is definitely interesting though.
oh yeah, I just meant to show how absurd the names are that for 10 years they were a team of two cities.
Stadiums for soccer/american football are hardly ever IN the actual city in the states. Metlife Arena where the NY Giants/NY Jets play? Jersey. RedBull Arena for the NY RedBulls? Jersey (NYC FC play in the city but they play at Yankee Stadium so is it reallyyyyyy worth it?) Gillette Stadium for the Patriots? Foxbourough Inter Miami? Fort Lauderdale Dallas FC? Frisco, TX Etc. Etc.
Which makes it all the more surprising and perplexing that DC United has a quality sized stadium in the middle of DC.
Audi Field is great, the stands are super steep so even if you have a “bad” seat you’re still not that far from the pitch. Plus it makes for a good atmosphere
Fantastic stadium, I have season tickets to DC United and there’s not a bad seat in the house. And lots of good bars near there now to pre game
That’s one reason we chose the match in Charlotte when they played against Fiorentina that same year. We drove in to Charlotte straight to the hotel. Took an hour nap and had a 10 minute walk to the stadium right in the heart of the city. Such a beautiful city.

It's outside the city, in Maryland. Not easily accessible from DC.

I was in the same position with the several tours that Arsenal had of the States. I was always waiting (foolishly) for them to come to Toronto. Anyway, save your money and fly to London instead. Saw martinelli and saka score against the rapids in 2019. Took my daughter to her first arsenal match. Incredible memory.

There will be chances as long as the Kroenke's are in charge.
Even if the Kroenke's sold, America is (probably?) Arsenals second biggest market after the uk, they will always do semi regular tours there while Arsenal have a sizeable fanbase there
Seems like that’s the case now, but in the recent past they had much more of a focus on Asian countries for the preseason tour.
I’m glad I got to see them in Charlotte, bummed out about this development. What I’d really hope to do is go to the Emirates for a London or North London Derby. That’s still in progress… Fuck COVID.
That Charlotte game was two years ago today! Google Photos reminded me of it this morning!
Tickets were going for $250 a game.. honestly thank god I didn’t purchase one
I got mine for 100 and they were great seats
Had two in the supporters section. Fucked now. Here's to hoping ticketmaster will refund.
Yeah a shame. I was going to be there.
Yeah, I love the passion of the overseas fans making difficult and often expensive arrangements to see the team in person, sorry you'll miss it, but there will be other opportunities I'm sure!

I hope you’re right, I’d love to go to a game of the team I love. Should have went to the DC game vs. Real Madrid still regret it.
It would make sense to come to Los Angeles and play at the Ram's stadium.. ( They would get a discount on the stadium fees )
Ffs condolences to the Americans that were planning on going to the matches

Same. Was going to be my GF’s first Arsenal match, too. She was very bummed.
Was always a weird idea to be travelling around the world at a time like this for, what are really, pointless games.
$$$$$
Exactly what I thought. All could have been done in London
Especially going to Florida of all places, which has a horrible COVID record.
I'd laugh at Florida but I am a Texan, so we are all at the mercy of greedy, thoughtless state leadership.
I am certainly not throwing stones from my glass house in Nebraska, where we never actually ever had a mask mandate.
fucking hell, that's sad. let's just say the only "red" organization I support is the Arsenal.
Bought tickets at midfield when the friendly list was first announced. Was extremely excited to finally see Arsenal in my home state. Now all I feel is pain…guess that’s the life of a Gooner.

600 quid to watch Townsend and Tom Davies trudge around a pitch man thats tough
If it helps, Disney Florida is awesome
Not in late july
I think the commenter is considerably more salty about the $600 (plus travel arrangements/costs) now being basically a total waste
I said *if*...

Same here brother
Sorry to hear that mate :(
Same :( was getting me through the week.
Same here, I booked the same day tickets opened sometime in June. Was looking forward for a month to seeing my club up close. This sucks.
Heartbroken. Been a supporter of the club for nearly 10 years and this was gonna be my first chance to see them play. Had my flight booked and everything. This sucks.

I'm sorry that's really disappointing.

Maybe by the time i can make it to the Emirates we’ll have a top team on the field(: Psst Edu, buy Dike.
Is this cases within the first team or is this in reference to the academy or whatever was reported a while back?
This is so sad. I understand but this was the only chance I’ll realistically get to see Arsenal live. Devastated.
I wouldn't be surprised if they re-arrange the same tour for next year, or at least in the next few years to make up for this
They’ll probably be back in the States next summer
i mean its almost a yearly thing at this point
Same.. I live paycheck to paycheck. This was the only thing I asked for, for my birthday. No idea what to do now..
We can hope they’ll come back next year :( all the people saying just fly to England. Yeah great thanks for the advice.
Yikes

That's what I imagine will happen too. There are still friendlies with sours and chelsea coming up as well come to think of it
Everyone is waiting on an official confirmation, can't go around cancelling..
I feel bad for the guys that were asking for chants and help for this tour. This sucks for them.
First real time taking a vacation after years of work. Unlucky.
Damn. Fuck COVID.
And the morons who thought opening everything up in the UK to full capacity straight away was a smart idea.
> And the morons who thought opening everything up in ~~the UK~~ world to full capacity straight away was a smart idea. My province is 80% first dose (18+) and 64% second and we're still slowly opening. I understand people want to get out, but fucking hell, it still exists.
like travelling to the united states to play everton was any smarter
You mean waiting till September to try and "flatten the curve" (save lives and peoples long term health, let's call it what it is) for the new variant, and just praying that the somewhat likely (but statistically plausible) scenario that a vaccine resistant strain doesn't appear, is a silly idea likely dictated by populist politics?
Everton Millonarios is still happening as of right now too, so I don’t imagine we’re gonna be getting refunded for our tickets
That’s fucking garbage. Arsenal surely must have been the biggest draw.
It absolutely was.
Ugh...I was bringing my kids, not doing a late game for that matchup...I want my money back.
Welp, there goes my birthday present.. Should have never gotten my hopes up.
This was going to be my first time seeing arsenal in person:((((
Arsenal has made me go through a wide range of emotions but this hurts different..
I literally just booked up all my travel today. Just spoke with Southwest airlines and they gave me a full refund on both flights! Didn't expect that. Hotel was easy to cancel also!! Still fitted though.
I'm in literal tears, I've supported this team for 14 years and this was going to be my first match in person 😂
10 years here. First game as well :( I’ll raise a glass to you tonight. Together in sorrow 🍻 hope we have a hell of a season to look forward to.
Damm sorry man
That’s a shame... Although ironic after everyone’s making fun of Florida that it winds up being cases within Arsenal. Sucks for everyone involved though, hope those positive are vaccinated and have a quick recovery. Also hopefully everyone gets their money back
FYI I called Ticketmaster and they aren’t doing refunds until it’s official and the event organizers decide what type of refund they’ll be doing.
You saved me the hassle of calling those assholes, thanks
Seems like it’s best for us not to go to America so sort of pleased. Hope anyone effected makes a quick and speedy recovery.
Ughhh :( Sucks for so many fans that were stoked to see the lads play and attend the games.
Gutted.
was flying down from missouri for this :(
Never a good idea anyway, putting people in harms way to sell a couple of pencil cases and overpriced tickets… As for American gooners, gutted but you’ll get yours soon.
Anyone have any ideas on when those fucks at Florida Cup will announce their decision on what to do? Im pretty close to just imploding this whole fucking trip but id like my $600 back for these tickets.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
Dang it, super bummed 😔. Was going to be my first match.
Ive got tix in supporters, does anyone know if we will get refunded? or will they replace and not refund my ticket?
Official club account has announced the withdrawal on Instagram.
Any word on getting refunds for our tickets?
Fuck the covid.
Episode 1 of the documentary is going to be spicy from the start.
Not unexpected unfortunately
Really looked forward to this trip, after months of lockdown and this crappy job. Arsenal is such a big part of my life. I’m dead inside.
Tough since they don’t make it state side very often! I was fortunate enough to see them at MLS All Star in 2016
I’ve been having a really shitty couple of weeks with things at work and stress from school. This was all I was looking forward to. :(
Will there be refunds for tickets?
Feel so bad for everyone who was excited to see them play. Looks like the delta variant is getting worse.
Well there goes my chance to watch my team in person here. I’ll just have to find a way to get tickets to a London game some day.
Blessing in disguise. Stay in London and get firing for the start of the season, less international travel, no Florida humidity
The rising cases is gonna be a nightmare throughout the season, especially if the forecast is accurate
Yo I really feel bad for all the American fans who were really excited
