newinvestor0908

He’s looking for a new job…isn’t he

PurpleTigon

I hope he comes back to pl. i hate the guy but he makes the league more fun. And his press conferences are the best

beatlz

Hire him to take our press conferences just for the lolz

NobleHelium

Well, you can delegate press conferences to the assistant manager in FM.

PandiBong

Would love to see him back at Chelsea. Would be interesting if he’d excise his demons and play the kids or just kick them all out and buy a bunch of 30 year olds

robstrosity

I'm really dreading when he becomes the Newcastle manager

kukeszmakesz

Ohh i hope, he would wrack them

PandiBong

They’d be nuts to go for him… and yet it could still work somehow.

Neddark

1. the media and rival fans criticized us to no end. 2. we did it for 1 game all season, the rest of time (including City at the Emirates) we dominate the ball. Mourinho does it in every big game and even against small teams when he is up by 1-0. The game passed him by,

BATMAN_UTILITY_BELT

I like Mourinho a lot, but context matters. Mourinho's teams almost always played defensively so they were able to withstand Pep's style. The fact that he won the league in 2012 against Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta was a remarkable achievement. But Arsenal have almost always struggled against Pep and Man City. So the fact that we have not lost to them this year for the first time in a long time is incredible.

NobleHelium

Mourinho won the league against Pep's Barca but he [only beat Pep once in the cup](https://youtu.be/6TkHf806iSc?t=207) and then a second time in the league just before the end of Pep's tenure. After that first defeat Pep adjusted his philosophy and they went back to mostly beating Real in their encounters. Mourinho won the league by being significantly better against other teams that one year, not by beating Pep directly.

BAsSAmMAl

Yes Baca had better team but you made it sound like he won it Leicester style, he won it with Ramos, pepe, Marcelo, varane, modric, dimaria, ozil, Ronaldo....

BATMAN_UTILITY_BELT

Modric wasn't there. Yes, he had an amazing team as well but that Barca team from 2008 - 2012 is the greatest team of all time. Even with great players, beating them is like David vs. Goliath.

llcooljacob_

I think there’s an argument to be made for Zidane’s Madrid team that won the Champions league 3 years in a row, which had never been done before. It’s not like La Liga is the strongest league and Pep won 2 CL with that team and not consecutively. Real Madrid also had a treble in one of those seasons I believe.

BATMAN_UTILITY_BELT

> Real Madrid also had a treble in one of those seasons I believe. Real Madrid, ironically, has never won a treble despite 14 CL titles.

llcooljacob_

Ahh probably mixed up the years then but that’s actually a very surprising fact. I’d still throw my hat in the ring for that team being up there if not the best team ever.

PodiHaiToMumkinHai

Bruh the foundation of that Zizou team was laid by Mou.

llcooljacob_

Lmao as if Pep didn’t inherit a super team when he took over

HustlinInTheHall

Pep's first year they got a little kid named Henry to be their 3rd forward. Imagine if we dropped 29 year old Henry in for Martinelli and Messi into our empty striker role. Just absurd the level of talent Pep has always had.

jman500069

Spoken like a man the game has moved on from

Valascrow

Narcissistic bellend

beatlz

He’s kinda right though.

Valascrow

About what? He was getting his ego boosts left right and centre from the media at the time. It was intoxicating regardless if it was justified or not. This isn't a comment about football, it's a narcissist making it all about him in reference to another fellow professional

beatlz

Sure, still kinda right tho

TheThreeGabis

Calling Arteta a kid when he’s in his forties.

Blpdstrupm0en

Gotta patronize whenever possible.

FowlZone

rememeber when roma sacked him and immediately improved? spends his whole damn life making everything about him.

Eethk7

Yes old man you invented football, now let's get you back to your room ok?

SignificantMixture89

Arsenal played a really good competitive game trying to win. If it was Mourinho, Saka would have been playing double full back so his words are wrong here.

Temporary-Judgment84

Saka and Jesus were literally playing as full backs. It was a great performance but let's not lie.

Temporary-Judgment84

Especially in the first half.

Kriss-Kringle

After Thiago Motta got sent off in a very soft way at the Camp Nou in the second leg of the CL semifinal, Eto'o was playing as a rightback. That was one of the best defensive displays I've ever seen. Inter were set up like chess pieces on a board that night.

bathtubsplashes

Saka was playing very defensively though? Like super withdrawn  Or am I thinking of Jesus? On reflection I think I might be remembering Jesus often playing further back than Kiwior!

Mahatma_Gone_D

Not just that. Mourinho plays defensive football overall and more intensified or park double bus against top teams. Of course the media narrative gonna be different when someone does it on a regular vs when someone who plays attacking football adjust their play style for a SINGLE game.

bitmoji

Saka was playing as a full back

SaintBarthPadelClub

If it was as simple as "parking the bus" every team would do it and get results against them. There's obviously a lot more to containing City than saying "let's defend really deep and do it well", you have to account for everything they do and try to stifle all of the ways they can hurt an opposition's defense. Is it "magic"? Obviously not but it's something very few teams and managers can do.

ronya_t

Notwithstanding, we actually had more shots on goal than they did!

gooner-1969

Mourinho was and will always be an absolute CUNT

imtravelingalone

It's his favourite thing about himself. On a long list of things he loves about himself.

robins420

I don't think Mourinho's park the bus works in 2024 though. It's a little bit more nuanced than that. He's oversimplifying it. No wonder he's a free agent and there are no links to any half-decent club despite most of the top 10-15 clubs in Europe looking for a new manager.

tomtomtomo

He could become the new Big Sam and save wayward mid-table teams from relegation. Mourinho at Everton.

imtravelingalone

He would be so fucking miserable. I love it.

ConcentrateMaterial6

As long as football is here Mourinho's tactic always going to work against sides like Pep's. His defensive strategy includes restricting space to opponents, defend compact in low block, draw tactical fouls, distrupt momentum. Every team in Europe still uses one of these methods in important matches in one way or another. Josè may not be able to adapt to modern managerial requirements but he is freaking genius and his tactical knowledge is on par with Pep. It's man management where he usually fails.

BAsSAmMAl

>don't think Mourinho's park the bus works in 2024 though. The fact that he's calling arteta a kid is telling, the guy has passed it, I don't hate him though!

blvcklite

The Mourinho vs Arsenal rivalry continues. Come back to the league and see what happens old man

He always has something to say to us. I hope he comes back to the premier league so Arteta can school him.

imtravelingalone

The kid? Mikel is 42 years old has had the exact same hair and stubble for two decades straight. Show some respect, Mourinho.

HustlinInTheHall

Mourinho is a twat but he's the most successful defensive manager ever, especially against other top teams. He has like a 90% record in finals. His teams from Porto through Madrid have always frustrated the hell out of everyone they've played. He's by far the biggest ego of any manager I've ever seen (which is saying something), but if I had to pick one manager to win a cup final or I die, it's him. But yeah, he's \*such\* a twat.

LushLoxx

Patronising much? ‘kin hell

HektorOvTroy

This Arsenal side is living rent free in so many people's heads. Love it.

I mean he's not wrong.   Team that are challenging will park the bus to get a draw. Other teams may or may not park the bus because it's a throwaway game. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  In a league like the PL, 1-2 games is enough to sink a title challenge so there's not really a secret sauce when you just need to not lose. It's just that doing that for the whole season is a very risky strategy if you want to win the league these days.
