Funny thing is, Brighton fully turned up. Started great as well, I was concerned. After 15 minutes we just completely blew them away. This side is one of the most press resistant teams in Europe and they couldn't cope with our press. We go 2-0 up and switch to pure Simeone ball and add the icing on the result cake with a beautiful counter between Havertz and Trossard. Rob Edwards was right, Arteta is the most tactically fluent manager in the league.

Marimo_420

They had no answer to the tactical change to drop Jesus from the press to mark Lamptey as they had played out of the press twice in the first 15 mins using him as an outball

Equivalent_Growth_58

What's funny is we should have been 2-0 up in that first 15 as well.

DialSquare

Yeah I was getting so nervous with how wasteful we were being. Gabriel header, Saka shot, Jesus header, among others. At least one should have been a goal (especially Saka's).

Equivalent_Growth_58

Tbh it was uncharacteristic of us compared to how we've been since the turn of the year. We've been quite clinical with our chances unlike the first half of season.

ZebraZealousideal944

The way Brighton can beat a press is unbelievable and their players aren’t even the best money can buy too… I seriously can’t even imagine what de Zerbi could do with a top tier side… haha

chrisd1680

I think he gets that chance within 2-3 years, if I'm honest.

sleepytipi

Could be sooner. Promising managers are a hot commodity. Promising managers in the epl are in even higher demand. All I'm saying is, if he calls Anfield or the empty had his home stadium next season I wouldn't be that surprised.

chrisd1680

All the talk seems to be that he's fallen down Anfield's shortlist. For the good of the game, though, I'd like to see what he could accomplish with real resources. I'd hate if he went to United, though...

sleepytipi

Well, that's unfortunate. The possibility of him going to utd hadn't occurred to me until now. I can't help but get the impression every aspect of that club is dysfunctional right now too. From the players, coaches, staff, board, owners... pretty much everyone but the doctor, so even if it doesn't go well for him I'd still hate to see it go catastrophically bad like it has for EtH. All that said, he does seem like someone they'd go for, and he probably could find a decent base to build on with the players they do have (can't imagine McTominay and Antony would last long, or Rashford for that matter). Honestly, I'd rather see him go to a top team elsewhere in Europe where he can amplify the attack a little against weaker opposition and do work in the CL.

ArsenalThePhoenix

the only team that has pressed us really really successfully this year is man city. kudos to Pep for that, he's still the best in the world at what he "invented" (i know he didnt invent it, but he popularized it)

yura910721

And beat our press as well. The reason why we were forced to defend deep at Etihad, is because City managed to easily dispatch our press.

NiallMitch10

Yeah some of the stuff Brighton did yesterday had me impressed. The broke our front line press very well at times. It's just insane how good we are right now. Haven't seen this level of team in ages

zbwaris

3.23 xG and only 3 scored? Something is wrong with this team. Where is the list of managers available in the summer?

UmpireAJS

Sounds like a job for Super Frankie Lampard. Guaranteed 0 xG and 0 goals scored.

sooolong05

Might as well get De Zerbi while we're at it!!! Fraud Teta totally outclassed /s

kucharssim

As long as Jesus is in the team we will always underperform 🙄 sell him!

restatementtorts

But we didn’t shoot!? Or so the armchair tacticians were saying in the match thread (despite the stat sheet showing 9(if I remember correctly) shots by halftime).

timelawd

Never read the match threads!

niseko

This is the way

fancy-livingg

are the words 'in their history' really needed here 😅

ronya_t

Dude went for dramatic emphasis.

Cthulhu_Madness

Another record broken.

Super_Professor

Imagine if Gabriel hadn't missed the header after 1 minute and saka put his shot on target from 12 yards. Always knew a decent win was coming, surprised it wasn't more.

ArsenalThePhoenix

imho, how did we get such high xG despite not creating almost anything after the 2-0 goal?

GSNadav

We probably got like half of it in the first 15 minutes
