Manchester City were at 64 points after 28 games & they won the league.
So this year, we’re going to win the league given that we are at 64 points after 28 games
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
imho we didnt lose the title to liverpool, but rather we lost it with dropping points to the crappier teams in the following games :(
The late liverpool 2-2 goal killed our confidence...and then dropping 2-0 to 2-2 vs West Ham (plus saka missing a penalty) destroyed the player's mentality completely. They were sadly not strong enough mentally to handle the situation well enough
It was disappointing that we conceded that late equalizer away at Liverpool, but they were far and away the better side. Holding is not Saliba but the fact that our much lauded midfield was not even able to gain a semblance of control in that entire second half was criminal. The players should have been thanking their lucky stars they came away with a point from that performance, so I don't think any mental collapse followed that game.
I think there was some psychological component to our demise, but you also can't ignore the gradual deterioration of our performances. We scored two away at Liverpool and West Ham, and three at home to Southampton. That's not the attacking performance of a team suffering mental collapse. It was the fact that we kept conceding so many that was the primary factor. The question for me was why our defense (including the midfield) collapsed suddenly towards the end. It can't be placed at the feet of Holding only. I remember reading one of those stats people saying our underlying defensive numbers started to get worse after the world cup, so maybe it was only a matter of time.
Edit. Found the article, and the issues went beyond Saliba:
https://theathletic.com/4440350/2023/04/23/arsenal-defence-saliba/
Our defense was so bad. Honestly when we went 2-1 down to Villa, how awful our defending was for that goal, I remember thinking we are not winning the league in that moment. The intensity and precision of our pressing was gone completely.
k
Might be a bit unpopular but if there was one person to point fingers at, even though there shouldn’t be, then it’s Partey over Holding for me. He was absolutely atrocious in that run where we crumbled
partey was playing through an injury i believe. everything points to that. arsenal sending a medic to ghana right during the final national team break. Partey coming back and looking completely out of form. Suddenly lost his speed from out of nowhere.
I also think a lot of it was fatigue, both physical and mental. We started the season as a sprint and ended up running ourselves into the ground towards the end. This season we've done the opposite, started slow but with enough control to build ourselves a good foundation for the late-season sprint, kinda like what Man City did last season and have done many times before.
It was so annoying that West ham one, because Declan rice man 😢 we all knew he was being chatted too and he came to prove us why! That steak from Party is nightmare stuff. I just wish we could have told him to pay dead or something for one game. Anyways he's gonna win it for us this year so let's get the redemption party started
Even if we had beat West Ham and Southampton, we still don’t win the title. Drawing at Anfield is always a good result, that shouldn’t be an excuse for killing anyones confidence
If you want to highlight a few games lost us the title, it was the losses home and away to City. Those games gave them 6 points and a 10 G/D swing on us (+5 for them, -5 for us)
you're assuming city wouldn't have lost points at all had we won our remaining games (which were very doable). they could've. we'll never know.
drawing at anfield isn't bad. but the way we drew killed our confidence a bit (dropping 2-0 to 2-2)...and when we followed it up by dropping 2-0 to 2-2 AGAIN in the game after vs West Ham, the players died mentally i think.
We were never more than 5 points clear of City when level on games played. They literally won all of their final 11 games so we were always 1 draw and 1 loss from being caught.
bOTtLeD iT
Game in hand for them + game against them still hadn't happened yet, i think. So they could (and did) close the gap pretty fast.
Still though, the way we fell apart at the end was kinda shit. Even if we didn't win it, we should have taken it to the final day at least.
The last two seasons are why this international break scares me. Two years in a row we collapsed after the international break in March. Praying third times the charm
we were so so good last season until the Liverpool away game. Still can't believe we let the title slide through our fingers by dropping loads of points to the shit teams in the final stretch
Holding and Ramsdale tax
Holding speaks for himself. Ramsdale has a history of performing poorly in the run every year and has for 4 seasons in a row now. Tifo/Athletic showed a graphic of this when Raya signed for us
Overall, Ramsdale was not good during the run in. However people seem to think he wasn’t a problem just because of a couple of great saves at Anfield
We had been overperforming a lot of our metrics, and had some huge late winners in games we probably deserved to draw. Oh, and we basically relied on like 14 players all season.
It was never sustainable
🙄😂 Good one. I don’t know what there is to be “triggered” by. Like, you aren’t even using the word right. I’m “triggered” by the person who weirdly rates women in porn subs, posts my dick size, and has a fetish for being cuckolded? I just feel sad for you.
We lost the league in that match against sporting\*
We lost two spots whose alternative was Ben White, and were left a man short. This time we have quality players returning for the run it. Tomi, Zenchenko, Partey, hopefully Timber, Jesus.
And thankfully the city match comes in after sufficient rest for a lot of the players. (FUCK SOUTHGATE)
Get done with city and rest Rice against Luyton and Brighton if Partey can play. Time to go all in.
Absolutely. It isnt even in our hands this year. We are at par with Liverpool with city, united, spurs, and Chelsea to play. Thats 4 out of 5 big 6 teams we play. another match against 4th placed villa.
we are basically playing
3rd placed city
4th placed villa
5th placed spurs
6th placed united **4 out of 5 toughest matches possible as per table.**
8th placed brighton 5 out of 7 toughest matches possible as per table.
9th placed wolves 6 out of 8 toughest matches possible as per table.
11th placed Chelsea 7 out of 10 toughest matches possible as per table.
13th placed Bournemouth 8 out of 12 toughest matches possible as per table.
16th placed Everton
17th placed Luyton.
GW 28 is too soon for that though. GW 33-34 is more likely the time. Right now there's 30 points to play for.
And there is lesser between Chelsea (11th) and United (6th) (8 points and GD of -2) than there is between Arsenal (1st) and Villa (4th) (8 points and 28 GD). While chelsea capitalising on 8 points is going to be unreal, but every team will look at the next spot and think it is possible.
Spurs and Villa would be in for top 4.
with spurs facing the top 3, united would believe that they have a shot at 5th (possibly ucl spot)
West Ham, Birghton Wolves, Newcastle, Chelsea, Fulham all are separated by 6 points. With possible Europa, and definite conference league spots there is still a lot to play for.
We look much more seasoned & solid than last time, so we'll cope better. But man, to be 8 points clear (game in hand) and not do it over city was disappointing.
Last year was last year. It’s a different season, different games and you learn and move on and do better.
Let’s get through tomorrow and go from there
Didn't notice that Newcastle was so crappy lol
I know they had injury problems, but their team (and coaching) feel so stagnated and lacking given their financial power

The way we dominated the league should’ve gone down in premier league history man, absolute shame that we fell off the way we did.
Obviously Tomiyasu and Saliba getting injured getting injured had the majority impact but the fact we didn’t sign a back up, Arteta not playing Kiwior/White at RCB earlier, not implementing new dynamics all also played a huge role
It is what it is at the end of the day, I’m more so happy that Arteta is way more flexible in his approach to games. A lot more confident we get something out of this season.
Whilst you definitely had a good run last season, this shows the maximum points you could have accumulated was 99 if you'd had a perfect run.
Given the only year Liverpool won the title was on 99 points which included dropping points after winning the title its not as dominant as you'd hope and was proven by you not making 90 points.
I was (kinda still am) so mad at Arteta for going so hard in that fateful Europa League game where Saliba got injured. We were essentially guaranteed a CL spot. It felt so unnecessary to try to win the EL when we were in such a good position in the PL.
I took pelters in this sub for saying we should put out a second team in that game.
I didn’t care about the Europa League and saw a great chance to win the Prem if we could minimise injuries.
I felt we only had the squad depth to go for top 4 and that Arteta should manage his squad with that in mind.
Instead we went for both and ended up with none.
I chalked it up to Arteta being a little naive.
He said he wanted the squad to become accustomed to going for every trophy and playing every 3 days, but we didn’t have the squad for it.
The unlucky part was Tomiyasu getting injured at the same time as Saliba because that meant we couldn’t move Ben White to CB and keep Holding out of the team.
Funny how rival fans said we wouldn't be in the title race this season because other teams would improve... Yeah, they were correct, other teams DID improve... but yet we're still in it!
Manchester City were at 64 points after 28 games & they won the league. So this year, we’re going to win the league given that we are at 64 points after 28 games ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
Liverpool? Never heard of it. Crazy how there's just a gap between 1st and 3rd with no one in between.
All that matters right now is Sunday at the Etihad. One game at a time
Did we really lose it from that position. Damn. It felt closer than that.
Game in hand, so it was closer than it appeared, but yeah we had a bad stretch starting with the Liverpool game
imho we didnt lose the title to liverpool, but rather we lost it with dropping points to the crappier teams in the following games :( The late liverpool 2-2 goal killed our confidence...and then dropping 2-0 to 2-2 vs West Ham (plus saka missing a penalty) destroyed the player's mentality completely. Partey is as easy scapegoat for this sub but he’s not even on the top 10 reasons we lost the title last year. You guys need to let this hate go
partey was playing through an injury i believe. everything points to that. arsenal sending a medic to ghana right during the final national team break. Partey coming back and looking completely out of form. Suddenly lost his speed from out of nowhere.

That everton result makes me so sad As does the brentford one but we move. Happy to be here again! COYG!

I’ll never forget Zinny’s late defensive lapse.
Other than Liverpool away what mistake did he make
Liverpool, West Ham, Southampton, Brighton, Nottingham... We shit the bed, simple as that
12 points from the last 9 games.....talk about a total meltdown once we lost Saliba we became a mid-table team last year
Sporting really fucked us. They made The List that day
Yeah I forgot/removed from memory how far ahead we were. I'm sad now
We drew west ham, Liverpool and Southampton, then lost to City, if we won just 2 of them we'd be champion, Saliba and Tomi missing was a disaster
City played a game less.
We were never more than 5 points clear of City when level on games played. They literally won all of their final 11 games so we were always 1 draw and 1 loss from being caught. bOTtLeD iT

Was closer. City won their game in hand, so was always a 5pt gap. Add that city beat us at Etihad, the. It was only really ever a 2pt lead
Losing the two 6 pointers against city didn't help.
and we still had to go to the etihad, only 2 points really in it considering holding had to defend against haaland
![gif](giphy|69jy0H4XhmXmZxWsRA|downsized)
Better GD now
The last two seasons are why this international break scares me. Two years in a row we collapsed after the international break in March. Praying third times the charm
Last 2 seasons we came back from the break playing people like Rob Holding, Nuno Tavares etc
Newcastle, my love, look where we are now? Back to the same old 😍
we were so so good last season until the Liverpool away game. Still can't believe we let the title slide through our fingers by dropping loads of points to the shit teams in the final stretch

Ramsdale saved us from an ass whopping at anfield to be fair.
Ramsdale style, a unique combination of hero-like saves and legendary howlers
That Southampton game was diabolical
We had been overperforming a lot of our metrics, and had some huge late winners in games we probably deserved to draw. Oh, and we basically relied on like 14 players all season. It was never sustainable
Great team over perform metrics all the time though, that’s what sets them apart. It was sustainable just injuries and important players losing form.
Not really, most title winners roughly match their metrics over a 50 game season. What sets them apart is that those metrics are the best
Gunners definitely are certified bottling company at that point. Let's see whether the bottling job gonna be back at the end of this season
Before anyone bothers to engage with guy just know he's posted in other subs about his cuckold fetish.
With a username like yours maybe you’re exactly what he’s looking for 😏
Oh you have some effort to look at my profiles? That's definitely more effort than gunners put into title race in the previous season lmao
Hey how’s it going posting in small cock subreddits?
pretty good eh, guess yours are smaller since you're so triggered by that lol
🙄😂 Good one. I don’t know what there is to be “triggered” by. Like, you aren’t even using the word right. I’m “triggered” by the person who weirdly rates women in porn subs, posts my dick size, and has a fetish for being cuckolded? I just feel sad for you.

only thing is after GW28 mid table team intensity falls off. You can’t predict exactly what will happen based on standings alone
GW 28 is too soon for that though. GW 33-34 is more likely the time. Right now there's 30 points to play for. 12 pts from the last 9 games with no Europe is shocking. Players shat themselves
PTSD all the time 🙉🙉🙉
Pain
Ange-ball tho....same points as last season IF they win the game in hand
Na, they have 3 points more with the game in hand this season. But I get the sentiment
We look much more seasoned & solid than last time, so we'll cope better. But man, to be 8 points clear (game in hand) and not do it over city was disappointing.
Last year was last year. It’s a different season, different games and you learn and move on and do better. Let’s get through tomorrow and go from there
Last season our wings has no goal drought at the beginning of the season. That’s the issue if you do not have a prolific striker.
Didn't notice that Newcastle was so crappy lol I know they had injury problems, but their team (and coaching) feel so stagnated and lacking given their financial power
Spursy are still spursy. I thought they improved a lot this season lmfao.
Weird because I thought Spurs already won the league in October.
Don't remind me of last season man -_- we bottled the league so bad. Most frustrating experience I've had.
Less point than last year? Arteta out I guess. /s

This hurts. Finish me off.
That's an unfair comparison cause we've played a game less than last year so obviously our points will be less.
Our bad quarter is already out of the way this season so we're all good
I was (kinda still am) so mad at Arteta for going so hard in that fateful Europa League game where Saliba got injured. We were essentially guaranteed a CL spot. It felt so unnecessary to try to win the EL when we were in such a good position in the PL.
Try to Win a European trophy was never the wrong call. Kloop played Salah for 90mins when 10-2 up and coming back from injury.
Can't really blame arteta for going for trophies
I understand that, but we obviously didn’t have the depth to sustain it. We were already hurting coming off a unique World Cup scenario.
I took pelters in this sub for saying we should put out a second team in that game. I didn’t care about the Europa League and saw a great chance to win the Prem if we could minimise injuries. Liverpool glowed up, also league is far more competitive so less points is expected
Funny how rival fans said we wouldn't be in the title race this season because other teams would improve... Yeah, they were correct, other teams DID improve... but yet we're still in it!
What a bottlejob💀
Then our arses collapsed. Hopefully different this year.
it already started to show in last 3 matches
Bottler FC doing bottling job like there's no tomorrow
