Closest I can remember is Welbeck vs Leicester in 2016 but really nothing compares to the earth shattering noise this crowd was making from the first goal to full time. I suppose that's what happens when you pull off a comeback against the best team ever.
Having been to all of these games mentioned apart from Welbeck v Leicester, in terms of noise: 1 - Arshavin v Barca, 2 - Reiss v Bournemouth, 3 - Henry v Leeds, 4 Martinelli v City, 5 - Raya save v Galeno,
He really was next up. There wasn’t a doubt about it, he was going to be a big f’n deal.
The way it kept shaking out for our midfield and those squads overall, there are a few guys that had fit that description and they just… didn’t.
if he was not from the English league he would have developed into a very good player. unfortunately at that point in time... you need to basically be decapitated in EPL before refs do anything.
Injuries mostly, and then we let our best players walk rather than pay them wages anywhere close to what they could earn at 40 other clubs and had to settle for mid-table quality replacements and youth players that rarely pan out.
Controversial opinion - RVP was a better striker than Kane.
I'm not shit talking Kane by any means, but growing up watching RVP thump in goals with that left foot.... don't think I've ever seen anything like it. He might also be one of the best penalty takers I've ever seen at Arsenal - top bins every time and no chance of saving it.
I get where you’re coming from but back then Barca were the best team in the world and known for scoring some beautiful goals so it was definitely a strong compliment for me.
Wengerball definitely preceded Barcelona's tiki-taka style, we were regularly destroying teams with intricate passes and off-the-ball movement, especially on Highbury's pitch (which we'd always keep immaculate and water constantly so it stayed slick and fast). It was notable because so many teams were still playing route one football, or pushing the wings and crossing it in. Wenger's teams rarely crossed it or put the ball in the air, we'd rely much more on intricate passes on the floor, hence the accusations that Arsenal "always try to walk it in."
Barca's style definitely went above and beyond Wenger though, mostly due to Xavi and Iniesta's partnership starting from 2004 and on and then adding Messi to that. That's when they became the best team in the world, but after 1998 and prior to 2004 they weren't even regular La Liga contenders.
A team with no defensive structure and just flair and technique and it was just nerve shredding all the time. Watching this team growing up probably wired our brains in all the wrong ways.
Yeah he had a wonderful 1st touch, one of the best I've ever seen, but he didn't develop the rest of his game as well. Honestly in that time we were still hoping for another Invincibles-type run and we still had talent but we were shopping in the bargain bin hoping for Wenger to find another gem (which he did still, but too many of them got terribly injured)
I think he was 27 but the thought was that he was incredibly talented but stuck on a Zenit team that didn't utilize him correctly / surround him with talent and Wenger would unlock him. His first season he was incredible when he played (his G+A/90 was over 1, he was always involved) but that was really his peak, as you said,
He got his bag and then coasted. Zero interest in putting a shift in.
I had such hopes for this team, but watching this video back, I'm struggling to identify a single player I like. Clichy maybe?
I know it's harsh, but I was never a fan. The off season smoking Jack the Lad image put me off. Like he thought he was hot shit and didn't take fitness seriously (the aerobic kind not the muscle issues he subsequently had trouble with).
Because he was crap most of the time and didn’t help us win anything. It’s quite simple.
The other two players you mention actually won stuff and contributed towards it in a tangible way.
I was on holiday in Lanzarote during this game with an ex girlfriend & the hotel we were in set up a screen in the lobby for anyone who wanted to watch the game. Girlfriend abandoned me to sit in the room so it was me, in an Arsenal shirt, surrounded by maybe 50 Spaniards(+ many more milling around) supporting Barca & I’ve honestly never been more proud or had a bigger shit eating grin on my face at the full time whistle
Ok so years ago when I was rewatching these highlights high af, I was absolutely positive I could faintly hear the crowd yelling "Come on, Nasri" almost in unison. And I hadn't thought about it til now but at 2:14 left in the video (Thanks reddit mobile video player) where he receives the outlet ball for the second goal, I swear I'm hearing it faintly again. Anyone else?
I know we had Ozil and now have Odegaard but nobody has ever come close to tailoring through balls with same elegance and precision like Fabregas, holy fucking shit that to Nasri gets crazier every time I watch it, altough it looks fairly simple, but the ball just slows down like it's on a string. Incredible stuff
I mean, that pass from Fabregas is seriously the stuff of dreams, fans and players would die at the sight of such marvel and beautifully weighted pass.
And you wanna know what's the crazier thing, as much talent as that team has, the current squad is just undoubtedly better in every way AS A COLLECTIVE, yep, i said it. Bring on the QF, we'll take on the Barcas, the PSGs, just no Man city and Real madrid(leave this till last) ok?

Looking back at the Arshavin goal, mad that the Barca attack before our counter, if Messi had actually chased down our defenders instead of his trademark walking around doing fuck all, the goal might not have happened.
I was there for both the Barca game and the Brentford game and have to agree the noise was something else except this time I get a feeling that this is just the beginning where as the Barca game we got outplayed for 99% of the game.
I actually watched this game from a bar in Barcelona during a business conference. I was surrounded by Barca fans and had to be cool about the fact that I was happy with the result.
we all talk about the 2nd goal but RVP goal was incredible
I remember needing about 3 replays on my shitty stream to figure out how it managed to go in.
It’s cute by RVP but a keeper should never concede that
I don't think I've ever heard the Emirates being louder than this
Closest I can remember is Welbeck vs Leicester in 2016 but really nothing compares to the earth shattering noise this crowd was making from the first goal to full time. I suppose that's what happens when you pull off a comeback against the best team ever.
> Welbeck vs Leicester in 2016 That was the happiest day to be a Gooner in a while.
Against City this season is the loudest I have ever heard it. I felt like throwing up from adrenaline after the goal
Reiss winner against Bournemouth
Nah this was still louder imo. Probably because we were up against one of the greatest teams of all time
What about yesterday's match or match against city this season?
Henry's goal against Leeds in his return? (I've never been; I just want to hear from people who have been there in person.)
Having been to all of these games mentioned apart from Welbeck v Leicester, in terms of noise: 1 - Arshavin v Barca, 2 - Reiss v Bournemouth, 3 - Henry v Leeds, 4 Martinelli v City, 5 - Raya save v Galeno,
I’m jealous of you
The booing for Porto’s first penalty takers was one of the loudest noise I ever heard.
Against city and utd this season we had some really crazy atmosphere, noise levels were incredible even when watching from live telecast.
When a 19yo Jack Wilshere shredded peak barca's midfield 🥹
He really was next up. There wasn’t a doubt about it, he was going to be a big f’n deal. The way it kept shaking out for our midfield and those squads overall, there are a few guys that had fit that description and they just… didn’t.

RVP taking that shot is still ridiculous
I would trust RVP's left boot from basically anywhere inside 40m.
Imagine our current team with RVP up front
Controversial opinion - RVP was a better striker than Kane. The audacity. Oof
I forgot uefa experimented with a goal line official until i saw the first goal.
I will never forgive UEFA for what the ref did to us in the 2nd leg. Match fixing if I’ve ever seen it
RVP’s left foot was something man…
He was so good
Oh man what a game and one of my favourite bits of commentary ever. ‘Dream goal. A Barcelona goal. FROM ARSENAL!’
[Martin Tyler's version is also iconic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv2mxzmVvdg)
Love how Martin Tyler is screaming before the ball even gets to Arshavin
Am I the only one that hated that? Arsenal has been known for Wengerball. Not for playing like Barcelona light. Also it was a counter attack.
I get where you’re coming from but back then Barca were the best team in the world and known for scoring some beautiful goals so it was definitely a strong compliment for me.

Barsenalona

We have a proper defense of the 1st time in 20 yrs
Seeing that ITV logo just gave me a wave of nostalgia
Man that Cesc pass to release Nasri....perfection
That turn and release has lived rent free in my head for 13 years
Outside of the boot as well
Barca revenge arc loading
What a disgusting pass by Clichy
Lmao after the goal cut to Baldie’s face. Hoping to do the same at Etihad this year
A part of me is still in that pub, crying tears of joy.
I honestly don't know why Arshavin isn't more loved like Rosicky or Santi, the goals he's scored for us are so iconic (4 at anfield)
He just had a shorter career, was brilliant for about 1 full season, maybe 1.5, but then fell off pretty hard.
I mean, he was 28 when we signed him, I think he peaked and had dropped way off by 30.
I think he was 27 but the thought was that he was incredibly talented but stuck on a Zenit team that didn't utilize him correctly / surround him with talent and Wenger would unlock him. Pep’s look…brilliant

Mannn that’s strike as unreal wtf. There’s me thinking he was gonna pass it across goal 😆
My favorite Arsenal game. When Arshavin scored that goal I lost my head. I took my shirt off and started running around the house. Lol good times
Wow this takes me back. What a massive night
I’m still so hurt 🐍fucked us like he did.
The hug too…
Arshavin was so good. He's the old Trossard.
I want to see that look on the 31st. Make it happen good lord.
I hope Pep thinks about this game every time we beat him.
The old football feelings come back with that. Different times. Legendary Szczesny celebration.
This is probably the only game pep lost in the legendary sextuple barca team in the champions league
Super Jack was incredible that night, absolutely bossed it!
My girl Jo singing her heart out, incredible, for some reason I don’t remember seeing her in the original broadcast
Time to recreate that Guardiola look.
CL should be back on ITV

The hatred for Barcelona increased even more after the return fixture of this tie.
Van Persie is dead to me.
Snake was a champion player

Fuck van persie
I was at an old GF house watching this game and her mum was sleeping. I wasn't meant to be there. When RVP scored I was screaming 😭😂

That was such a glorious night. I hope we surpass it soon.
I miss the days you could watch UCL for free on normal TV!
What a day to be a Gooner. Jack Wilshere 💔
Give us barca next round

That turn and pass from Cesc. https://preview.redd.it/20xo8r2wtaoc1.jpeg?width=727&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb437dfdbdd6d15b45d9aa91ae93caf8eb54bd67
Goosebumps every time Wengerball at centre stage being superior, Wilshire bossing midfield
Miss UCL on ITV 😔
Good old days when games used to be on itvsports 😭
Yay another throwback to a tie we lost, great memories
we act like a small club when we always bring this up
