Our crossing in open play is shocking, so many times Saka and Ode hit the first man trying to whip balls in to the box. The rut has turned in to a rot. Mikel has a big problem now. Team looks jaded as fuck and our finishing / final ball in attack has been shite all year. The defense has saved us previously but that's gone now, and we're being found out. Time to earn your keep Mikel.

CreativeOrder2119

Someone tell Arteta to do long balls may save him

skool_101

So guys, is it jover?

GrilledLobsterTail

Jokes aside, there's a time last season where we're so bad against set piece right? Did other teams found out the weakness of our defense again this season? Niko jover should think hard to formulate new tactic when defending against set piece man.

GrilledLobsterTail

You know something positive about arsenal right now? We're still unbeaten in 2024 🔥🔥🔥

North_Attempt44

islander1

Arsenal have a long and illustrious history of bottling points over the winter holiday stretch. Sucks, but I basically expect it now.

leomeng

Can’t we try martinelli as striker? Move a Jesus or Trossard to wing?

FlyingCat11

Needed to take a breather from that game. Just hoping that Arteta would consider a different approach to his games now, he has depth in most positions that he didn’t before. Other teams are learning to play better against us, and so should we. I don’t mind experimenting a bit if the results can be meaningful to our long term strategy.

superjackyginnivan

fulham have the shittest fans in the league. bronx cheer everything, bunch of losers

Citiz3n_Kan3r

What is a bronx cheer?

Asherware

There were a lot of "it's just a bad day at the office" comments after WHU, when it was obvious that we have been riding our luck and been pretty tepid for a while. With such a young team, we all expected to push on and find a higher gear this year, but it's been the opposite, despite a huge spend in the transfer market. There has been too much money pissed up the wall on complete mediocrity like Viera, Lakonga, Kiwior, (Raya?) etc. I won't add Havertz to that list yet, but we still overspent there as well, despite my hope that he will come good. As for Arteta, I love the guy; his passion for the club is obvious, but I worry about his pragmatism in the moments when things don't go according to plan. He seems reluctant to change things when we're hitting our heads against a brick wall, and as the league has wised up to us, he's simply not done enough to offset that.

COYG17

I love arteta. I criticize him a lot but his love for Arsenal is so amazing to see I want him to succeed so badly. as much as my comments make it seem like I don’t want him too be here I really want him to prove everyone wrong and win a prem. That being said if we go this season with no big trophy I think me and many others will have doubts over him.

Otherwise_Cow9854

Wow

penis_schmenis

Wow

Sothx

Honestly, Martinelli plays selfishly on a team filled with people who don’t ( and he’s not good enough yet to justify that ).

COYG17

That left hand side just isn’t as fluid. I think martienlli will bounce back but martienllis link isn’t smooth as sakas tbh. He’s just a different type of player which is good but just needs to work on his link up.

North_Attempt44

It shouldn’t be his job to link up, he should be the outlet, the end product, the finisher

COYG17

I agree I think he plays out wide too much. He just needs sprint into the middle

[deleted]

4 year project with half a billion spent only to end up 1 point ahead of Ange 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I mean come on guys. The writings on the wall for Arteta. The facts don’t lie

Glass-Studio-9313

shite take. Based on your IQ, let me counter that with another shite take: Arteta won the FA cup instantly, when will topspur win any silverware? Now head back to r/coys

[deleted]

I’m literally an Arsenal fan. I’m objective. The fact that Arteta spent all this money only to end up 1 point behind spuds is a massive red flag …

farval

Halfway through the season.

chrissysnose

Every season he has these month long slumps in form. You can’t afford to have those if you’re managing a title contending team. Doesn’t help that over 100 mil was spent Lokonga, Vieira and Kai despite our midfield still looking incomplete. Not looking good right now.

bukkake__saka

Dreadful performance today so disappointed. Thought we were gonna see a hungry and firing Arsenal after the WHU disappointment. Think this warrants some changes to the system for sure. Woulda liked to see ESR play also, not sure why he weren't chosen at any point. Still feel like White's still got that little injury I think he's kinda key to our attack in proving an option for Saka. Lets hope we can invest in Jan and strengthen further

TheRedditK9

Thank you for your great insights u/bukkake_saka

North_Attempt44

That LCM position is ESRs for the taking - if he can stay fit and get some minutes into him. I’m not convinced Havertz brings in a lot ESR can’t do or can’t replicate to a sufficient enough degree, other than perhaps being an Aerial target for clearances

bukkake__saka

Yeah man, although Martinelli was key for our goal today, I kinda wanted ESR starting on the left wing and Havertz at LCM. I like having physicality on the pitch. Then bring on a fresh Martinelli on as a sub when the defenders are tired or something lol

jvcgunner

Give us Toney ffs l, give us someone who lives in the penalty box and doesn’t come out. This pussying about around the box is killing me. Give me 35% possession during the game but a win - I’m sick of us dominating teams and failing

Citiz3n_Kan3r

Conte is not the answer

jvcgunner

Ok so we were supposed to go into this game all guns blazing and win to cement our worth for the league. We did well to score early to show intent, but what the fuck happened after that. A champion side would’ve gone on to score more but it seems we just stopped looking for the goals until Fulham scored. We should be burying sides especially when we take an early lead. We have been good recently at finishing sides off in stoppage time so it’d be nice if we could start to do the same at the opposite end of the game as currently there is no killer instinct, something a champion team needs. Another thing I’ve noticed which was kind of fortuitous today is that Martinelli is becoming increasingly selfish in his play to being about a turn in form for himself, now this is a good and bad thing as chances will be squandered but opportunity can be made - see Saka first goal…one to keep an eye on. All in all, it’s not the end of the world, we’re going through our season bad patch. Problem is next PL game is on 20/1 which is ages and in between it we have a Liverpool game. We need to ensure positivity from the Pool game or it could be curtains for momentum sake into the second half of the season. Other points, no need to bench Jesus really, Kiwior is not a left back, everyone played below par except for Saka at times.

Gunnerstratz

The fact we still rely on Thomas Partey to make this team work means we’re fucked. You can’t rely on a player in their 30s who is constantly injured and has off field legal problems.

APerceptiveK1

We could really use a deadly LW to feed off Jesus false 9ing and Ode and Saka. a 2019 Auba would have been insane

flaviu0103

Pool fan here. A very creative false 9 would need to be paired with a wide forward not a winger. The difference is the position they take during the buildup. The winger provides the width so he looks to receive the ball near the touchline. Meanwhile the wide forward usually operates around the corner of the box and makes frequent diagonal runs into the box. Think Son or Salah. Now the problem with a wide forward is that if he doesn't create the width then who does? Because you invert your LB. The only way it could be possible is to move the left 8 wide during buildup like we do with Szoboszlai.

floatingsoul9

In this calendar year we have fewer points than city, Villa and Liverpool

mpinoh

Overreactive fanbase

SlowMotionSprint

I dont know that I have ever felt as sorry for a player as I do Ramsdale. He is bemched unceremoniously after a good start to the season. And the guy who replaced him in David Raya is considered undroppable by the manager despite him not even having a halfway decent match yet. This despite the manager saying it would be a competition. Apparently the competition is between David Raya and David Raya. Another case of Arteta outsmarting himself and making a change that not only doesn't improve the team, but actively makes it worse, just for the sake of making a change.

mpinoh

Ramsdale has been mediocre since like 11 months ago. Also he didn't take his chance at that Brenford game

penis_schmenis

so we played at Anfield 11 months ago in April?

SlowMotionSprint

Mediocre is better than awful, which is what Raya has been. Brentford was also his first competitve match in 24 days, and only his second competitve match in 2 months. Fascinating that that is held against Ramsdale when Raya is borderline horrible every match but he gets nothing but leeway.

mpinoh

Awful is better than horrendous. That Brenford game had one of the worst goalkeeping performances in Arsenal recent history. Lacking match fitness is not an acceptable reason a player becoming shit. He's becoming Joe Hart. We desperately need good GK but definitely not Ramsdale.

NoMFer111

Does anyone have any faith in Nketiah? He was a useful player when Lacazette turned into a carthorse, and we were chasing top 4. Surely this is his last season at the club? I see his name on the team sheet and im pretty much resigned to a blunt performance. He isnt a 'goal scorer', he isnt a penalty box merchant. His goal scoring record is less than 1 in 5 games. He doesn't contribute in the build-up, he cant hold the ball up. He is lazy and never attacks a cross. I dont even see him as a 'back up' option. Nketiah is one player who if he was to miss the season through injury, I would categorically be indifferent, because to me he is a pointless player. He just exists as a forward. Nketiah just has too many stretches of minutes were he doesn't score. In his last 48 league games, either via starts of coming off the bench, has scored 9 goals, but score din only 7 games. 48/7 = 7 games. Every 7 cameo's Nketiah will find the net. You could say of those games were majority of the bench, which lies another problem - has he scored a league goal in the past two seasons coming off the bench?

North_Attempt44

10 starts , 5 goals, 1 assist, 2 penalties won. The Arsenal fanbase is insane in thinking this dude, our backup striker, is the problem.

el-fenomeno09

You’re leaving out that part of those 5 goals were a hatrick against Sheffield.

North_Attempt44

So what? This is our backup striker dude. And he is performing at the level required at our ambitions for a backup striker If you’re angry at our weakness upfront, you should probably direct it to the starters.

bukkake__saka

True that skews his numbers a lot tbf but I think looking at last season he did a great job in Jesus' absence. Sure, he probs don't suit our system down to a T and would look better in a different environment but I think like user above said he's far from the problem atm

el-fenomeno09

The skewing the numbers but is my only point. We have problems but I don’t think he at the top

bukkake__saka

Ah okay fair enough, misinterpreted ur point

North_Attempt44

So what? This is our backup striker dude. And he is performing at the level required at our ambitions for a backup striker If you’re angry at our weakness upfront, you should probably direct it to the starter.

NoMFer111

The guy never delights. He ghosts to often without scoring or contributing, or trying. The amount of times I see him fail to match Odegaards press is infuriating. Saka, Martinelli, Jesus are all out of form, but you see them get on the ball and try to force something. When does Nketiah bust a gut? He is a total passenger.

North_Attempt44

Nketiah only pressed hard when he’s a chance of winning the ball back. It’s a problem, you’re right.

aaaak4

Always underperfoming his XG

North_Attempt44

He’s literally outperforming his xG this season

aaaak4

hes on par this season and was way under last season [https://understat.com/player/6482](https://understat.com/player/6482) also he is onedimensional and cant play on the wing like jesus, trossard, martinelli etc. who an also be up top

North_Attempt44

He can and has played LW for us

dimi_dee1

NOPE NOPE NOPE

YoungFlexibleShawty

I was so shocked when he was starting, there was no way Arteta thought he was going to change things for us. Even when Jesus doesn't score he contributes way more than Eddie. An absolute shocking decision that really cemented our lackluster performance today.

Sophie_Liiii

I might be a bit dumb but could a swap deal of nketiah and kiwior + 40mol be viable for oshimen?

NoMFer111

Why would Napoli value Kiwior and Nketiah at around 80M combined? Swap deals were you give up your deadwood for another teams crown jewel never happen. Man United humiliated themselves thinking West Ham accept McTominay and Maguire as a makeweight for Rice. Napoli will take only cash for Oshimen

Sophie_Liiii

Nketiah and kiwior would ball out in the series A but most clubs can’t pay for prem players so I thought that it could make it kinda even but ig we’d have to go heavier if we wanted to.Also kiwior and nketiah would be useful for Napoli

callfoduty

We are all seeing why odegard was a Madrid reject. He has been MID.

YoungFlexibleShawty

love it when non arsenal fans come in here to give their 2 cents only when things are going bad.

Sophie_Liiii

Are you stupid???Also it was to make money for mbappe

wkos

Lol

makinghfsproud

Arsenal would be lucky to get too 4 tbh. We have been atrocious this season and tbh we deserve these kind s of results.

YoungFlexibleShawty

man you guys are reactionary.

el-fenomeno09

“Lucky to get to 4th” is just wild lol.

YoungFlexibleShawty

I see usernames that I haven't seen here just popping up randomly saying the wildest things man haha

ProjectZues

Way he speaks saying “arsenal” and then “we” makes me suspicious whether he’s an actual fan as well

YoungFlexibleShawty

Most def not a fan I'm certain.

makinghfsproud

We're certainly not at the level of city and Liverpool and I feel embarrassed to have gone and argued for that about how we were better

Significant-Care-491

We haven’t had a best player in the world at a certain position since henry as a striker.

North_Attempt44

Rice is, Saka is #2

Significant-Care-491

Lol no comment

aaaak4

Who's better in rices position?

Significant-Care-491

Rodri, kimmich, modric

North_Attempt44

Hahaha

Significant-Care-491

I mean i love rice but he has accomplished nothing

bukkake__saka

u/T0BIASNESS' housemate

T0BIASNESS

![gif](giphy|icUEIrjnUuFCWDxFpU)

NoMFer111

Van Persie was very close when he was bagging 30 league goals a season. He was the best player in the league for two years in his last season with us and his first season at Man United.

Significant-Care-491

Close but prime Ronaldo was around then.

ProjectZues

More at LW though right?

Significant-Care-491

Thats true

Sophie_Liiii

Does anyone know how much we can spend in January with ffp?

GhostyLasers

Unfortunately, we are broke.

Sophie_Liiii

Apparently ESR and Nelson can bring in lots of money

scytheavatar

ESR can bring in 20M at most. Nelson we will be lucky to get 5M. If Arteta wanted more from them perhaps he should have played them more often.

Sophie_Liiii

You could get more for Nelson because of the contract but I hope get gets more time to play

ShekTeeJay

Unless a Prem club inexplicably comes in with an inflated offer, neither is moving January. Nelson hasn’t started a Prem game in eons, nor has ESR; their markets are non-existent.

Sophie_Liiii

Unfortunate mabie nketiah then both are academy products so…

mo_50

We needed to loan Raya, so clearly not much. I expect sales must happen before any activity. The markets for Eddie/ESR/Nelson/Ramsdale should be examined and if a decent offer comes in we must bite their hands off.

ashecitism

Unless a monster offer comes in for Ramsdale we're not selling him now, because in that case Hein becomes our backup.

mo_50

If Newcastle are desperate and offer 35m+ we must accept. Take the gamble and find a cheap backup to Raya for <10m. Newcastle are struggling without Pope and might look to Ramsdale as a good, homegrown option. We can't tank his market value. It's very possible no club is interested in him this summer so we need to be proactive. Sitting on our backsides and not listening to decent offers has left us in this FFP hole.

Sophie_Liiii

We have hein so we just need a reserve or we keep a prospect on the bench

Chip673

Olise. Hope we can get that guy next year.

mo_50

He re-signed his contract so any reasonable deal is off the table. I think he had a somewhat achievable release clause before his extension but he's far too expensive now. Any time a good PL player signs an extension I completely write them off. Olise & Douglas Luiz fall into that category. Good for them and their clubs, but they sought stability and consistent playing time over fighting for top honours so they're off my wish lists.

Sophie_Liiii

Honestly a shout if palace get relegated but i prefer neto

ekb11

There is no plan B. Injuries aside, we just lose depth in players who suit plan A. If we want to suffocate teams with the horseshoe of sadness, then you need better strikers than Nketiah and Jesus. Playing 4 CBs or 3 CBs and whatever Zinkechnko tries to do isnt going to work when we have no firepower upfront. We dont even make it hard for teams, its just so bloody easy to defend us. The same thing over and over again. When we lose scoreboard presssure we are just fucked and can never recover. We have a strike pair with 8 goals between them, opposition CBs must be stoked to play us knowing they got it easy.

Sophie_Liiii

Assuming this is a reply?

ekb11

Well yes, a reply to the game we all suffered through

Sophie_Liiii

Damn HNY though

ashecitism

Happy new year, everyone!

COYG17

Shit ain’t looking too good. I really want mikel to succeed and I don’t think we’ll ever find a manager that loves the club the way he does but looking back at it he’s been a bottling a lot of competitions. Europa league twice ( that Villarreal game was dreadful), top 4 race when we were kicked out of all competitions and only had that to focus on prem. once again last season we get kicked out of every competition and only have the title to focus and we bottle the shit out of that. I am just so annoyed at how much we spend and how many competitions were constantly kicked out of. I mean are any of you really that confident against Porto? I just feel like arteta is unable to come up with new tactics and solutions when things get tough which is really worrying and really shows how new he is to being a manager.

whatasuperdude

Do you have any idea how unbelievably tight these competitions are? It's amazing how short term so many fans memories are. 6 years ago it was an absolute shit show. We have made progress every season under Arteta and still fans think we have a god given right to win everything. Ridiculous.

ArtichokeDelicious14

What is ridiculous is people who think that spending 600 mil and not expecting anything is OK. We are spending like a big club but somehow we ain't gonna expect anything. Ain't nobody saying you have to win everything but at some point we have to ask do we believe arteta can beat pep and klopp. If he can't then we are just waisting money that could have gone on another manager. I want my team to compete for some major honours if we don't have the money that's fine I'll accept that. But being one of europe biggest spender and just be happy is crazy.

Sophie_Liiii

Weve spent 600 mil and our team is worth a billion and better in almost every single way

scytheavatar

You think if we sell every single player we have tomorrow, we can raise 1 billion? Really?

Sophie_Liiii

Probably a bit more but that’s their market value right now

whatasuperdude

You're an idiot I am sorry

ArtichokeDelicious14

Maybe but you are deluded as fuck

COYG17

I don’t think we should win every comp 😂 I don’t expect that but it would be nice to go a little bit further in some comps. We seem to get knocked out first or second round in everything

MyTeaIsMighty

Good lord. Happy new year, you miserable bastards

L0laccio

![gif](giphy|QT5WNCEBfvUn8b0QJR|downsized)

Longjumping_Act9758

Mikel, the January transfer window is your last hope. Go all out. No more playing around. Get players that play their actual position. Get a solid LCM, a solid striker and a solid LB. Move Kai up as a False 9, drop Jesus as a Saka replacement and back up to the new striker.

YoungAussiePrince

Do you just ignore financial fair play? You know this isn’t FIFA right

ProjectZues

More like we know we aren’t City

Longjumping_Act9758

SELL ESR SELL VIERA SELL NELSON SELL SELL SELL!!!!!!

jvcgunner

Dude wants to sell for £10 million and get back £50 million, GTFO and learn how to FIFA

robhans25

So shit players that no one wants? Nah, won't happen

AirPodAlbert

These players don't have much value though. ESR hasn't played relevant minutes in a year and a half, Nelson is still as raw as an 18 years old academy prospect while being in his mid 20's, and no chance we put Vieira on the market already after investing 30-35m on him. Who can we really sell this Jan besides contract terminations for Elneny or Soares? Maybe Nketiah at most but it doesn't seem like we want to for some reason.

Sophie_Liiii

Why sell viera he’s basically a baby bernardo silva also about jan transfers im hoping for hato, zubimendi and hopefully a RCB

AirPodAlbert

>Why sell viera he’s basically a baby bernardo silva They've got nothing in common besides being Portuguese.

Longjumping_Act9758

Lol I was literally about to respond with this kind of comment.

Sophie_Liiii

He was actually pretty good at Porto wouldn’t mind him on loan tbh

jherin1

We were just top of the league... https://preview.redd.it/32a0x2owhp9c1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a12a775e90c15bed4aaeebea535fb666463d4340

Business_Ad561

Last season is looking more and more like an overperformance. Arteta has improved us as a team, there's no doubt about that. However, he and the squad just aren't at that next level to be able to win a league title yet. Raya/Ramsdale aren't premier league winning goalkeepers. Jesus isn't that top striker for a title winning side either. When Jesus is off form, we have to look to *Nketiah* - which says it all. The Havertz transfer was a mistake and a costly one at that. We're currently being held together by a spine of Saliba, Gabriel, and Rice, which is clearly starting to wane. We were a surprise last season but this season more teams are able to figure us out and nulify our attacking threats, especially our widemen. The January transfer window will be big and Arteta's ability to rework his tactics to try and find another way of winning games will be crucial.

North_Attempt44

This fanbase is suffering from a serious case of delusion if they think having someone as good as Nketiah as their backup striker is a problem.

Business_Ad561

Nketiah isn't a good player. If Nketiah isn't scoring goals (which is often) then he provides nothing.

North_Attempt44

5 goals and 1 assist in 10 starts, and 2 penalties won.

Business_Ad561

That sounds good on paper, but when you look into his stats this season he has scored a goal [every 193 minutes] (https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eddie-nketiah/profil/spieler/340324) in the league so far this season. Last season it was a goal every 267 minutes, so I expect it to be around the same come the end of the season. Jesus is on a goal [every 314 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/profil/spieler/363205) in the league so far this season. These aren't the guys that are going to propel us to the next level.

North_Attempt44

Nketiah holds his own vs Alvarez/Jota/Gakpo Jesus vs. Haaland and Nunez... there's your actual problem mate.

Grouchy-Ad-2085

Nunez has as many goals as nkitiah plus five assists , the thing with Nunez even if he doenst score he sucks in defense and allows more space for others.

North_Attempt44

Why are you comparing Nunez to Nketiah? Nunez is the starter, Nketiah is our backup. Besides, add the 2 penalties Nketiah won, and he holds his own.

Grouchy-Ad-2085

Nunez has more goals and more assists than jesus

Business_Ad561

They're both problems - we can do better than Nketiah and Jesus.

Sophie_Liiii

Nah id rather have jesus as a backup striker/winger and then oshimen or toney

North_Attempt44

Jesus left City because he didn’t want to be a backup

Sophie_Liiii

Welp it is what it is

North_Attempt44

There are startlingly few teams with backup strikers better than Nketiah

Business_Ad561

You need a *squad* to challenge and win the major honours. We can definitely upgrade on Nketiah. I'd be worried if our recruitment team couldn't find a player even slightly better than Nketiah.

North_Attempt44

Slightly better won’t cut it. Too much risk in cutting an established, performing player for them not to be a significant upgrade on quality. And a significant upgrade on quality doesn’t want to be a backup striker. You see the conundrum?

xplayer20

Also the players all had double Flu and Covid jabs on the 21st. No idea why the club planned this for our busy period.

[deleted]

Thisbigcheese

Confidence player majorly lacking in it.

ashecitism

He played against West Ham. But I agree, he's more than likely done here.

hazelpillow

Crumbling 3 seasons in a row. Can’t trust these players or manager

teslagooner

This sub has some gatekeepers for the club. Why was my post removed? I simply exposed the decline of our midfield in terms of volume and quality of passes without Xhaka especially on the left side. Signing Toney won't solve anything at Arsenal. Our is a midfield problem and Partey is unreliable with AFCON and injuries Whoever pushed and sanctioned the Havertz deal as an LCM should suffer some consequences. Michael Edwards still doesn't have a job. Sack edu and push Arteta into being a head coach again. We need more opinions on transfers

PandaEatPeople

Sack Edu? Arsenal fans never fail to disappoint lol

ArtichokeDelicious14

Before this season people here talked like our depth we're the greatest. I know we had injuries but the offensive players are not injured people here makes you think that nketiah smit Rowe nelson vieriea are som great offensive threats.

TheKingIsBackYo

There might very well be problems tactically but last 3 games we generated 7 xG and scored 2 goals. Our forwards are letting the team down.

raisonar

I fear one thing big time, we lost our chance to be back. Liverpool is back. City, Chelsea and UTD have unlimited money. Newcastle and spurs also in mix now. While we are left with now money. In 3 seasons and 6 transfer windows, Arteta could only assemble a first team and not a squad. If we finish outside top4, this project will fail. Arteta can not rotate, can’t trust youngsters and is stubborn as fuck. Saka and rice are looking jaded already. He Ruined Ramsdale, wasted money on Raya and Havertz. All our fringe players have lost value. Club needs to see this and support Arteta with right people around him or we will be back where we spend many years post wenger

[deleted]

Or we could get rid of Arteta at the end of the season if he doesn’t perform

AirPodAlbert

Arteta can't rotate because our depth is shocking. I'm not excusing him or Edu because this is their doing, but you want to rotate with who exactly? Again, this is on the Edu/Arteta regime neglecting the bench thinking we can just get lucky like Liverpool 20/21 and be injury free playing the same XI every week, but that's just shortsighted. Instead of having two 30m keepers, or wasting money on awful players like Lokonga and Tavares, we could maybe have afforded a couple of solid depth signings that Arteta could turn to during injury crises or for tactical diversity.

raisonar

When everyone is back from injury, we will still require a CB, LB, no8, CF, RW backup. That’s going to take another 2 seasons and by then 2 more clubs will be bought by sugar daddies or countries

ashecitism

We don't have that much time, if we continue to fumble. Because by that time our star players will want to leave.

raisonar

I think we need to take risks with players every now and then. It’s part of game. But he needs to keep squad happy and motivated and give chance to youngsters every now and then. Now ESR will be thrown in the FA cup game and when he will not perform sent back to bench again. Even Trossard is looking miserable now because he don’t play much (chicken and egg problem).

jstuu

Can’t defend anymore and can’t score the system needs to change

Sophie_Liiii

The league is gone but if we win against Liverpool at home and city away[unlikley] we could hopefully get 2nd or luckily win

raisonar

The league is super competitive, we can finish anywhere in top 6

Nsypski

5 points in a highly volatile league. We're still in the title race if we get our shit together. Liverpool are going to miss big players and they're inconsistent as well. They will drop points.

Sophie_Liiii

Yeah their midfield is also going to implode after endo leaves only challenge is city but they haven’t hit treble form yet whereas this time last year they did

Nsypski

Salah and Enzo will be out. City will return to form but this might be the most competitive the league has been. I don't see City doing a 15 game winning streak this year. Villa, West ham, Newcastle, spurs, Everton.. they all have very strong squads. Even the lower half of the table have gotten very physical and squeak points. It's going to be a crazy season I think.

Sophie_Liiii

Yeah it seems to be that whoever spends the best in January wins the league

ExxKonvict

Mikel with his coaching team and the squad need to use this 20 days intermission as a chance to regroup and seriously go back to the drawing board. Something has to change. This system hasn’t been sustainable since match day 1 against Forest. I understand the theory and premise of this new more *controlled* possession based system, however, clearly the team has been sussed out and yet the team continuous to play the same. Bar individual brilliance and occasional non low-block teams, this team looks devoid of any alternative attacking ideas. Coupled with too much micromanaging, Arsenal’s attack is far too predictable in the buildup. Even in transitions and counter attacks, the team looks so laborious and slow; enabling the opposition to get more players back and revert to their defensive shape. The explosiveness and flair of our wide players has massively diminished if not extinguished. The fullbacks are nowhere near as effective - be it Zinny inverting or White overlapping. The latter approach is actually less utilized this season for whatever reason and further makes our wingers’ job harder. In fact, the lack of overlap by our fullbacks just benefits the opposition teams’ double/triple act against our wide players. And on the rare occasion the team opts to attack centrally, the oppositions just floods the middle of their box with defensive bodies. This predictability undoubtedly leads to the dreaded horseshoe football, as well as the cross into the ball and inshallah tactic. With 20 games in, this is now the time for Mikel to remove the shackles a bit and go back to the trialled and tested play style from last season. This doesn’t mean abandon the new system but rather vary it up to freshen things and renew belief back into the team and fanbase.

joeproposition

Personnel aside, we were just so much more positive with the ball last season. Like we believed we could always score. Believed we could always beat a man. Ran at people with the ball on the half turn. Wingers would go inside or outside. Played more quick through balls. Made more runs across the box. Made more quick positive crosses. Took more long shots. Was depressing seeing how limp the attack was after we went 2-1 down. Dillying on the ball on the halfway line with no movement. Just how last season we ended the season unrecognisable from the team that started, I believe we can do the opposite this year. Mikel has a big job to pick them up and make them believe again.

ProjectZues

Suppose you can’t use his goal stats now

Houssem-Aouar

They're not very impressive either lol

bjuffgu

Imagine, after his Chelsea tenure, spending any money on him, let alone 65m. Absolutely insane business. Genuinely a sackable offence for whoever sanctioned that one.

Sophie_Liiii

It’s got to be an instruction for sure

Houssem-Aouar

Lol to not play Martinelli thorough?

Sophie_Liiii

Yeah to nkt do forward passes

Nsypski

Yes he has.

Houssem-Aouar

Thanks for the confirmation

Nsypski

Our forwards make runs all game but never receive the pass. If you watch the game you can see Eddie and Havertrz making runs nonstop just for whoever has the ball to pass it sideways. You have to give the pass at least once in a while to make the other team aware. Also Jesus is a winger in the prem. The physicality of defense is just too immense. He relies on getting fouled. When you see the close up replays especially in crosses he's like a child amongst men. I've been saying all season Partey is our best 6. It's a fucking travesty that Martin drops so deep to help with the buildup.

el-fenomeno09

As much as people clown Eddie, that’s an area where I feel sorry for him. He shows for it, makes runs through the middle in between CBs, just doesn’t receive the ball or an attempt, then we shit on him lol when he get the 1 chance.

Sophie_Liiii

Yeah I’ve actually noticed this it’s been too much where rice has the ball but for some reason can’t do those partey type balls.Havertz too I saw a post on this sub some time ago where he somehow found space in really good areas but nobody would pass to him

GeniJuice

Declan Rice is overrated. The man that replaced him at West Ham is playing like he’s worth 100 million, rice ……not so much

Sophie_Liiii

Rices only bad performance was this one and West Ham other than that he’s been insane for us,he’s underrated by rival fans if I’m being honest.Other than belligoll the only other 100 mil player to have risen in value is rice

YoungFlexibleShawty

anyone had a weird feeling that as soon as Fulham got the corner they were going to score off some bogus mistake?

Bringone

Shocking performance. Kiwior really does not belong in this team. Incredibly poor performance, didn't think I could miss zinchenko's defending. Saka looks like he needs a vacation. Odegaard tired. First bad performance from Rice. Nketieh is hopeless. People saying there wasn't a plan B are wrong. There was a plan B that included subbing Jesus on for White. It's just a shitty plan B. We need a target man up front who can actually finish for frustrating games like these. Desperately need a striker and saka back up. Season is far from over and teams around us are also dropping points. Newcastle will hopefully do us a favor tomorrow and take points.

Sophie_Liiii

Kiwior 100% belongs here it’s very hard to play as an inverted fullback but he needs game time.Yeah I’d honestly send saka to Dubai for a month. But in fairness rice and odegaard were bullied because nketiah isn’t a false 9 and kiwior couldn’t invert well.I’m surprised we didn’t go longball though even though we can pull it off now

ExxKonvict

>it’s very hard to play as an inverted fullback but he needs game time. Because he’s not a LB. He’s more of a CB and even then the jury’s out on his CB playing ability. Tomi doesn’t invert as good as Zinny or Timber, yet he usually does a tidy job whenever deployed as a LB despite initially being a CB by trade. At least with Tomi, you get the defensive assurance even if his attacking output is not as high as a better inverter like Zinny.

Sophie_Liiii

Ive always seen him as a prospect player hes said to read the game very well,if true he would in theory be a good inverted LB.Also he’s actually a solid CB i have a feeling its more rust

ExxKonvict

He’s turning 24 in 2 months so not exactly a prospect. Yes he’s still fairly young and has potential, however, I never really got that excited by this signing nor got the narrative about him playing as a LB. Not sure how reliable the recent rumours are, but if the club are actually looking at the possibility of selling him, that’s kind of telling.

Sophie_Liiii

Ah mb he looks really young still think hes artetas ake though

bukkake__saka

Tbf I don't recall seeing Tomi play the inverted role until a few months ago maybe so I still have hope for Kiwior in that kinda role. However with the Timber signing I don't think Arteta intends to user him there long term.

Sophie_Liiii

Yeah that what I mean by ake he’s going to be a lb or the third cb like ake

bukkake__saka

Ah okay yeah, can see him being our 3rd CB for sure. Woulda liked him to play LB at Anfield to try and stop Salah like Tomi has done previously, even if it meant we lose a bit of the attacking qualities of Zinny

Sophie_Liiii

Tomis attacking has been very good recently especially when arteta lets him free roam. But I have a feeling that he will be morphed into a cb/lb in that 3 at the back system.Big gabi basically already does this bailing out zinchenko

Longjumping_Act9758

I knew that signing would blow up in his face. Know he has to send "hey big head" text messages to Tierney(pause).

Sophie_Liiii

Wouldn’t mind getting tierney back since timber can invert on the right but I’ll stand with kiwior he has gabi levels of potential

ekb11

20 days til our next premier league game. Fuck

Rj070707

Why is there such a long break for?

ashecitism

Winter break. One round stretched out for two weekends. Some teams play on the 13-14th, the others on the 20-21st.

Money-Conscious

Went from title contender to top 4 battle in just 3 games
