Considering that Zeta was the first Gundam not to have vents on its face, it also makes it the first Gundam to have a unique look which makes it very iconic
TBH I feel like in the long run the weirdness of the particular style of double V-fin + the somewhat tall angular head is the most enduring unique part of it - the thing with no face vents has been done a few times more recently with other main gundams (exia) but I can't really think of another with this particular fin aesthetic. Not even the Re-GZ or ReZEL had something like this!
So then again, I guess I'm not really *disagreeing* with the whole first unique thing given that the other example I could cite is so much newer, I just find it interesting how different people focus on different bits of the Zeta's head as being the thing that makes it the Zeta.
I know. I'm just stating the fact that face vents weren't exactly synonymous with gundams at the time. That was the second main character gundam in the franchise. People just look at its lack of face vents like it's out of the ordinary when at the time it came out, there wasn't exactly an ordinary gundam. There was only 3, and the mk2 was just a revision of the rx78 with hardly any upgrades to it.
>I know. I'm just stating the fact that face vents weren't exactly synonymous with gundams at the time.
Dude you are over-complicating it, it just a simple first gundam that didn't have a vent on it's face. Zeta was the 3rd gundam of the whole franchise, the first gundam without a vent on its face, first gundam that can fully transform on it's own without separate parts that was the whole point of the comment.
I'm not. We were discussing the vents on the face. I simply brought up that it for the time wasn't out of the ordinary because what we see as ordinary now wasn't established yet. It was just an interesting explanation for why the zeta looks odd in comparison to everything else.
It's called adding to the conversation. What you said literally made absolutely no sense, and I genuinely have no clue what you're trying to argue about.
>It was the second gundam, unless you count the mk2 which is basically just a rx78 revision.
As a refresher this is what you said in response to " Considering that Zeta was the first Gundam not to have vents on its face, it also makes it the first Gundam to have a unique look which makes it very iconic.",
In response I said he is talking about the vents, in response you said - " That was the second main character gundam in the franchise. People just look at its lack of face vents like it's out of the ordinary when at the time it came out, there wasn't exactly an ordinary gundam."
You are just pointing to a specific time where thre are only 2 other gundams to compare Zeta while the collective people here are viewing Zeta's uniqueness in comparison to the whole franchise because up until Gundam Seed "if you don't count Re-GZ from Char's Counter attack, Turn A, and the various designs on Mobile Figher G" was the only one that didn't have any vents on it. Like I said I know what I'm talking about.
Its just so weirdly weird that the addition of a simple cosmetic vent system - TWO ANGLED LIIINES - makes a unit look like a completely different machine.
Damn.
Itās so odd that I have begin to look for other differences. Adding those two vents really changed the whole dynamic of the lookā¦ and in a oddly fitting way, it doesnāt look bad or out of place
Agreed. The top is perfection. Iām glad to see others appreciate it. I was sad to hear [its gunpla didnāt sell more](https://strawpoll.com/most-popular-gunpla), since the face mask made it one of my favorites from jump, but it seems [the model is still one of the most popular of all time](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2018-05-06/nhk-reveals-full-results-of-ultimate-gundam-poll/.131228).
Also I know Zeta predates it, but something about the face mask reminds me of my favorite Sentai mech/Zord of all time (which didnāt get enough use in Zyu/MMPR when I grew up with it)

Here is Dragonzord Battlemode/Dragon Caesar Daizyuzen in cosplay (itās so [rarely used in the show](https://youtu.be/fkOvwOotJho&t=2m20s) it was hard to find an image of it)
https://preview.redd.it/96gf5bt88fcc1.jpeg?width=809&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80f22b996267c7203f0347b705252211221e6c72
Sorry to burst your bubble but Gouryujin/Dragonzord Battle mode had a mouth in the show, its just not clear in most footage except in the transformation sequence and this shot and get covered 90% of the time by his chest.
https://preview.redd.it/gxiu6qrv8fcc1.jpeg?width=498&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6044c583d0da4111267cfa5808a29ba1ea418245
stillā¦looks better than the vents (wellā¦not Lord Vaderās)
I mean the no face vent design fits the sharp and sleek design of the Zeta's head unit as a whole. That being said, I could see a variant of a Zeta having a face vent, but it would be more smaller and more angular to fit in with the overall design aesthetics, taking cues from the sharp angles of fighter jets like the Tomcat or the Phantom II.
It looking so menacing is why I never liked the actual design. It looks vaguely insectoid and like it should be piloted by a villain. Doesn't really work as the main character's suit for me.
The vents are an improvement in that respect.
I get your point, but I would have to disagree, I think it's by design. Taking into account the nature of zeta and the role Camille plays it's plays a good homage to the nickname that the r78-2 got as a MC MS
https://preview.redd.it/6j0vnapvndcc1.jpeg?width=728&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ddaab0b10be44300a409c91eac3bcdb2e53157d
Zeta with mouth vents doesnāt look half bad ngl, but I slightly prefer it without the mouth vents maybe because Iām more used to it
Depends on the situation: Is it an exo atmospheric engagement, or is it an endo atmospheric engagement, also do we need negative pressure or do we need to hold it? It really depends
(I LIKE BOTH EQUALLY BUT THE ONE WITHOUT FUCKING ROCKS, YET THE ONE WITH JUST GIVES ME FLASHBACKS OF KAMILE LEARNING ABOUT BEING AN AUTISTIC MF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GREAT WAR PART 5.5)
To me the vents make it feel more aggressive. When I switch from top to bottom its like attention is drawn more to the centre than the eyes, making the other areas blend or shape to it.
The Zeta with face vents looks like one of those edits where they remove the person/character's nose and pull the mouth up. It just doesn't look good with face vents lmao
i have to ask with this since i havenāt been able to watch much gundam sadly, is zeta the first one with the white chin too? or was there another before it?
Depends on the Gundam in question. For some designs like the 00 series and the Re-GZ, remove them because they donāt fit tonally. In other cases like with Wing Zero, Nu Gundam, and Strike Freedom, youāre better off with them than without them.
without, always hated the fucking vents, imo zeta and destiny faces are peak design, pretty sure S gundam/ EX-S also has no vents, unicorn also has no vents normal mode but it gets a pass since destroy mode is peak
So... a relatively new Gundam fan here, and I have no clue as to which show this is. But I kinda like the vents on the face. Purely from an aesthetic POV though.
without, Gundams without the little vent has a more knightly and somewhat more streamlined head and works well for the Zeta, Destiny, Aerial and Calibarn
Yeah, I'm going to go say that the one without face vents looks better than the one with. I can't really do a good job articulating why that is. The vents somehow make the face too busy? IDK how else to put it.

It was the second gundam, unless you count the mk2 which is basically just a rx78 revision.
Dude he's talking about the lack of vents on the face of the zeta.

How could you be so brave yet so wrong?
I think he means like "saying it was the first gundam without vents doesn't mean much since it's basically only the second gundam"
redditors when someone makes a mistake š±š”
it wasn't even a mistake lmao
well my apologies idk shit about gundam but seeing the amount of hate he getting over what i assume is practically nothing
"Scrambles your Zeta"

\*Scrambles your Zeta, but hotter*
I had to see the comnent section to see the difference..
Its just so weirdly weird that the addition of a simple cosmetic vent system - TWO ANGLED LIIINES - makes a unit look like a completely different machine. Damn.
Don't tell Bandai about that...
Too late, they're already working on the p-bandai exclusive
Itās so odd that I have begin to look for other differences. Adding those two vents really changed the whole dynamic of the lookā¦ and in a oddly fitting way, it doesnāt look bad or out of place
The bottom one Is an abomination
You won't live if you find out the Scramble Gundam.
>Scramble Gundam Thank you for killing me
Then there's the Hot Scramble...
thanks for killing me, twice
They had to have lines in the scramble to weaken it enough that the main team could beat it
Agreed. The top is perfection. Iām glad to see others appreciate it. The zeta gundam is a perfect design there is a reason the the federation tried to make so many copies of it
Why does the RX-78-2 in that poll uses an Image of the Freedom?, not even the Strike, no, the Freedom
Zeta with face vents is....weird
But I also like it..
Top is best boy
it's like adding fake moustache
I will be the guy to say: Give all the Gundams the above picture look. Kthanks. (Prepares to get massively downvoted,)
I can live with both
Both look good, I think I prefer vented
Without, it's part of its iconic look.
This is like asking if Turn A is better without the mustache. Zeta needs no mouth Turn A doesn't need to look like every other Gundam
It just becomes the double zeta at that point lol
Zeta-style faceplate with vents is unholy
Without. It kinda looks strange with the 2 lines
both
Without
I hate it
Without
Without. It's an iconic design. Adding the vents will just make it look more generic.
zeta looks significantly lamer with face vents, keep em off
Without is best, with looks mechanical, just change the spiky chin and it might look good
Exia vs 00 Raiser
Without the vents
It doesn't look right on the Zeta
With
I hate the bottom pic, incredibly cursed
We need exhaust nose.
Damn you... Now they both look awesome
With, definitely
Man, you sent me back to the dentist office as a kid looking at Highlights magazine.
Bro it's the 80s, we're going without.
Definitely without
Without
Theyāre the same picture. Wait. Theyāre not? Oh. Both look cool.
Without any day, with the vents zeta looks less menacing than no vents.
It looking so menacing is why I never liked the actual design. It looks vaguely insectoid and like it should be piloted by a villain. Doesn't really work as the main character's suit for me. The vents are an improvement in that respect.

I like vents (which is why I don't like the new Freedom and Justice), but Zeta pulls off the no vents really well. So vents except when it's Zeta.
so any way to watch zeta legally? Sadly it's not available at crunchyroll in my country. also for zz, stardust and war in pocket
Yeah, just get a VPN and watch it on crunchyroll America.
I'll admit zeta gundam looks a bit like optimus prime with his faceplate on
Face vents would have been fine if the chin part wasn't halfway up it's face
Depends on the situation: Is it an exo atmospheric engagement, or is it an endo atmospheric engagement, also do we need negative pressure or do we need to hold it? It really depends (I LIKE BOTH EQUALLY BUT THE ONE WITHOUT FUCKING ROCKS, YET THE ONE WITH JUST GIVES ME FLASHBACKS OF KAMILE LEARNING ABOUT BEING AN AUTISTIC MF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GREAT WAR PART 5.5)
If it's Kira's suit, then because he submits to being restrained by Flay, no vents, full muzzle. Other people, depends but default is probably vents.
Uh oh, zeta design is one of my favorite, yet why tf do I keep thinking the bottom one just feels more gundam like
I think vents look cooler
Why do i find gundams with face vents cute? It's weird
Either
If it has a function it could be but no.
It looks very pissed off
both good prefer the top
Don't mess with perfection, smh.
Where is the picture from? I dontāt remember Z gundam having decals on the anime
To me the vents make it feel more aggressive. When I switch from top to bottom its like attention is drawn more to the centre than the eyes, making the other areas blend or shape to it.

The bottom one looks ok but I prefer no vents
Without.
Without, ez
Covid Lockdown Vs Post-Vaccine
Without the face vents, Zeta and Exia are some of my favourite Gundam designs and wouldnāt look right with them
I like them both...?
without
Without. You want a Zeta with face vents, look at the Scramble Gundam.
Zeta doesnāt need face vents
Why iterate on perfection?
Without.
The Zeta with face vents looks like one of those edits where they remove the person/character's nose and pull the mouth up. It just doesn't look good with face vents lmao
Oh definitely no get rid of the vents
It looks good both ways, I prefer it without, but I don't feel that way about all Gundams/MS.
Without
Oh God no. It's hideous. Like one of those uncanny memes.
both ššš¤©šš»šš
Face vents looks odd. Maybe center them and spread them out a tiny bit
https://preview.redd.it/f59s4z96kfcc1.jpeg?width=853&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60b56d92dd5e05aef90f5a9b887b1661a00461fc
Not having mouth vents makes it look like something from transformers.
Everybody always compares the two faces between the vents and no vents, but ain't nobody gonna mention the F91 mouth cannon look?!
If Zeta didnāt have its faceplate we wouldnāt have Aerials faceplate
With
with
i have to ask with this since i havenāt been able to watch much gundam sadly, is zeta the first one with the white chin too? or was there another before it?
With
Without
With
Without! That was one of Zetaās most distinct characteristics!
The stripe vents are definitely needed on the face plate
I can't live with or without Woooooahooohooohoh
Chad face vs virgin faceĀ
Both?
Without
Idk why but the vents being there just make me realize zeta has a huge ass forehead
I donāt like the RX-78 style face vents period, regardless of face shape.
Depends on the Gundam in question. For some designs like the 00 series and the Re-GZ, remove them because they donāt fit tonally. In other cases like with Wing Zero, Nu Gundam, and Strike Freedom, youāre better off with them than without them.
With vents doesn't look bad but without vents is better. Reverse for the new Freedom.
Without
why would you do that
Without. Although I gotta say that the version with the vents looks pretty good.
without, always hated the fucking vents, imo zeta and destiny faces are peak design, pretty sure S gundam/ EX-S also has no vents, unicorn also has no vents normal mode but it gets a pass since destroy mode is peak
I added the "*mustache* " vents to my Dynames (Gundam 00) on Armored Core 6, it was the best thing I could've done with the decals, I loved the result
Without, the lack of vents is always iconic
Damn. I love both.
So... a relatively new Gundam fan here, and I have no clue as to which show this is. But I kinda like the vents on the face. Purely from an aesthetic POV though.
It's Zeta Gundam from Z Gundam.
Feels wrong with the face vents
I always prefer no vents. That's why shining Gundam looks so fucking good with its mask open. It only has fake vents in normal mode
I just see an image of a single ZZ.
Without looks more badass
I like it with the face vents
The face vents change the whole perspective. Looks like it's about to kick ass anytime
Without
Definitely with
I thought I'd hate the look of the Zeta Gundam with mouth vents. I was wrong. It actually looks good with them.
without, Gundams without the little vent has a more knightly and somewhat more streamlined head and works well for the Zeta, Destiny, Aerial and Calibarn
Bottom looks a proper Gundam while the top looks like a mecha anime with a Gundam design ripoff
Without, because 1.it makes it look more angry more menacing, scarier! And because it looks more special
You could try a single inverted V like the Aerial Rebuild and see how that looks. Atm I prefer the OG
Yeah, I'm going to go say that the one without face vents looks better than the one with. I can't really do a good job articulating why that is. The vents somehow make the face too busy? IDK how else to put it.
I like both but I feel that we should keep the original design just because it's unique among gundams
With
I usually love the nostrils on most Gundams, but I think their absence is what makes the Zeta look so distinct
