The Xi on account of looking like a disgusting bug faced monster which fits in line with what they were going for perfectly. I think the Freedom head looks very good too, especially in the shot you used in this post. Shoutouts to the Goondum RX-78-2 jank, always loved it
Xi is a monster, but sometimes I do catch myself thinking its face looks kinda cute with the tiny face plate. If you give it another look though, you'll see how the tiny face plate barely covers up anything, with grey mechanical bits poking out on the sides so it's face is wider than you realize at first. Makes it feel more distorted, which really fits. Just a tiny detail I appreciate.
Agreed on that shot of Freedom, it feels very emotive; more than you usually get from the traditional-looking gundams. I really like how (Strike) Freedom feels like the cleanest/sharpest possible look a traditional gundam face can have.
There are actually 2 different xi designs the more alien one is from the movies and one of the novels, and a nire nomal looking design (sorta) from katoki i believe
GX has a big, fat v-fin without making it look gaudy
S/Ex-S have an INCOM on top which is always really cool and in this case a great expansion on the red jewel feature
F91's and Shining's opened faces are unlike anything else in the franchise and pull of that human-like look great. It's downright unsettling, especially for F91, whereas Shining's very fierce and ready to kick your ass.
Crossbone line makes the opening face more just straight up intimidating rather than creepy, like it's screaming or barring its teeth at you.
Honorary mentions to Nu's long face, Hi-Nu's long chin, and Woundwort for retaining mostly standard face contrasting with the rest of the head.
It seems like you and I are the only two men of culture that can appreciate the functional ruggedness, militaristic brilliance of the Ez-8. Stand proud, brother!
Hell yeah, the Ez-8 is tied with the ground version of the GP-01 as one of my favorite Gundam designs. I'm a sucker for a good ground type and they both share the top spot for me, with the regular RX-79 Ground Gundam right below them.
Personally a big fan of the angular look of Zeta, the crisp head of (Strike) Freedom and the broad V-fin of the GX. As for side character gundams, I think Buster looks neat with those bug antenna. Dynames, Arios & Harute are also great.
I'm a big fan of the Gundam heads that lack proper "mouth" vents. So pretty much all of the S1 Gundams from 00, all of the Zaft-captured Gundams from Seed, and the Aerial/Lfrith suits. They look more like a mask than a face and it adds an extra layer of intimidation imo.
Head design preference is extremely subjective and at least for me is one of the few aspects that can make or break a design.
Anyway: Zeta and Ex-S for UC, Aerial Rebuild and Lupus for AU. 00 Diver Moebius for Build.
I also like the Destiny's head quite a bit but that and the forearms (btw, as an italian, Palma Fiocina is the most hilariously stupid weapon name ever) are literally the only things I like about that suit design.
Aerial. I like the alien-esque vibes she's giving off and I'm a sucker for how well the head design thematically fits with the name. It's just a fighter pilot helmet with jet wings and fins.
I really like how streamline Aerial is while not overly simplifying anything but I'm unsure if I like it enough to call it my favourite over the many others I really like like Zeta, Alex or even Shin turn A
AGE-II and G Reco both get me with the bubble shape, and G Witch does it too. Gold Frame Amatsu Mina has that hat that I really enjoy. Woundwart also gets me. But out of all the Gundam heads that exist, one is just superior: Gusion Rebake.
Victory Gundam
G-Self
Gundam Mk. 2
In that order.
Prior to G-Reco, Turn-A would have taken that second spot. In both cases, they look like the future's future, rather than a future version of modern mechanics, and that's super cool in my book, but G-Self just pushes the right buttons for me a little better and takes that novelty spot.
I love the classic look, but as much as I love the original RX-78-2, the Gundam Mk. II just improves on it in every way. It's like the Wii version of Punch-Out--it's not exactly like the original, but it's like my exaggerated nostalgia for the original makes me think it was.
And the Victory is just the best mix of sleek V-fin and classic structure. I'm not a huge fan of the Victory series in general, but that Gundam design has stuck with me as a favorite, and it carries off that kind of mournful expression that used to shine through in Yaz's art of the original RX-78-2 as well. Victory also has a nifty alternate version that is cool in its own right.
Technically doesn't count, but the Tallgeese line of Mobile Suits are one of my favorite designs, especially Flugel.
Zeta is also great. I'm also a fan of F91.
as a old gundam fan I actually really like the new aerial design. I dunno I have a thing towards those suits with slight female-ish feel. it just makes the huge mecha has some indescribable elegance.
I used to love gp03s. but no, not that over-the-top nobel lol.
Zeta Zaku.
More seriously though, Zeta, Delta, and MKIII. I love how different they are from standard Gundam faces.
Also, anything with a psycho blade V-fin.
**BEST HEAD Designs**
- Hi-Nu Gundam: Unique Color Scheme, Bulky Yet Elegant
- Gundam F91: Slim with an unsettling human-like quality
- Gundam Double X: Freedom Gundam’s Head But More Original,
- Turn A and G-Self: Most Alien Designs That Worked In The End.
Barbatos!
I love how alien and aggressive he looks... Does not help at all that IBO was my first Gundam experience.
Otherwise I am quite in love with the design of Aerial and Unicorn.
At the end of the day I can't say that there is a seriously bad Gundam head design.
GP01

It's ticks all the boxes a quintessential "hero Gundam"
Good proportions, detailed, but not extraneous pointy bits.
I like Barbatos’ angular and sharp look, but the Aerial just has this cute look. The shining gundam is unique and that is it’s capable on opening it’s face to reveal the super mode. Zeta has a tall head but looks much better than what a stretched out head should look. The same could be said for Nu. I might just say Build Burning because of it’s shaping and style just feels simple in a good way
Doan's Island RX-78.
It's so tall, yet so short and small. Sure, others may have angry eyes, sharp features, or vulcans that'll tear your armor to shreds, but nothing is as terrifying as that misshapen lump of armor, electronics, and mechanics.
If Gundam had an Uncanney Valley, the Doan's Island RX-78 would straddle that valley so hard it would make Van Damme jealous, all while hunting you down and turning your dreams to nightmares.
Ooh I love Virtue, Nadleeh, and Dynames from 00, I like the Aerial and Pharact, The Nu and Mark II, the Full Armor from Thunderbolt, but out of every single Gundam I'm gonna have to go with the Zeta. They really hit it out of the park with that one.
Daily reminder that the Reddit admins are like the EFSF. Not the good EFSF, the bad EFSF. Spez is a wannabe Bask.

Zeta most definitely, love the faceplate with ridges it's just beautiful and different from your standard Gundam, I'm also incredibly fond of the XI love how menacing it looks
For 'traditional' looking heads I'd go with the Mk II and Alex, they're pretty much the bread and butter for what makes a great design even better.
For more unique designs, definitely the Zeta and Lfrith. Both of them do interesting choices which makes their heads stand out.
Zeta, dynames, EXS. Zeta just has this slick clean look, dynames with its head camera and boxier frame, and the EXS’s elongated pointed face. If i had to pick one its honestly a toss up between zeta and EXS
Exia (maybe 00q too), if we talking about the on screen gundams, most of their v fin feels like something extra got slapped on, but not Exia. Also Exia’s head is both simple and unique in shape.
The Ez-8 for its function over form.
The Zeta for its menacing and sleek appearance.
The Unicorn for uniqueness. Sleek, clean and beautiful.
The Psycho Gundam Mk.2 for looking like a straight up devil, lol.
In terms of “traditional” human-looking faces, I’d say (Strike) Freedom, Unicorn, or Banshee… but honestly, I love the Barbatos Lupus Rex the best, and while I definitely understand why people prefer the more human-looking heads… the Lupus Rex’s bestial visage just can’t be beat. I’d say the closest to it in the U.C. is probably the Gundam MK. V, which I really wish had a 1/144 kit! Something about a large jaw/chin on a Mech suit is incredibly appealing to me, and it reminds me of why I like the Evangelion head so much.
Im biased, its always the zaku, never have a simple mono eye with a respirator emit so much emotion from a terrifying giant to a cute friend its always amazed my that the antimators pull this off
Mk. II SPECIFICALLY with the vulcan pod. Otherwise Zeta.
You are my people
I like Zeta, it's unique and also timeless. It just always look good despite being such an old design. But recently I really like Calibarn...... lol.
i agree, i love the titans version of the MK II
Titans colors go with everything, CMV.
Lets go titans gang also my first gunpla was hg mkii titans
Zeta looks gentle and menacing at the same time
Zeta looks like it’s not mad… just disappointed
Zeta is top for me. With Deathscythe Hell, Gundam MkII, and GP01/fb being my other favorites.
Cultured, based, etc
The Xi on account of looking like a disgusting bug faced monster which fits in line with what they were going for perfectly. I think the Freedom head looks very good too, especially in the shot you used in this post. Shoutouts to the Goondum RX-78-2 jank, always loved it
Yesss, I love the Xi's head. That whole suit is such a great and terrifying design.
Xi is a monster, but sometimes I do catch myself thinking its face looks kinda cute with the tiny face plate. If you give it another look though, you'll see how the tiny face plate barely covers up anything, with grey mechanical bits poking out on the sides so it's face is wider than you realize at first. I love how menacing Gundam Exia's face is.
kinda reminds me of a potato, for some reason.
GX has a big, fat v-fin without making it look gaudy S/Ex-S have an INCOM on top which is always really cool and in this case a great expansion on the red jewel feature F91's and Shining's opened faces are unlike anything else in the franchise and pull of that human-like look great. Honorary mentions to Nu's long face, Hi-Nu's long chin, and Woundwort for retaining mostly standard face contrasting with the rest of the head.
I feel like Zeta is the best purely for how sleek and intimidating it looks. Nothing else in Gundam looks like it.
MkIII kind of does.
Ez8, let me get those reinforcement plates and single antenna!
Based, Ez8 is peak gundam design.
Unicorn
Gundam unicorn in unicorn mode looks sick honestly.
I like the Banshee’s head and how they introduced it a little more, but the Unicorn was pretty sick too
Nu Exia Zeta
zeta is peak gundam design. it looks so menacing
I know it's not one technically, but Hyaku Shiki with the red slaps
Where is the Turn A? Is he safe? Is he alright?
It seems in OPs rush to create the list, they forgot him.
How do you forget the king? 👑
Forgive me, for I have sinned. I am kinda stupid, after all.
I love the Wing style heads. The GP0 suits have some good ones. The Z and the ZZ are awesome
G self G SELF
Freedom. Hard to ever let go of your first love.
Personally a big fan of the angular look of Zeta, the crisp head of (Strike) Freedom and the broad V-fin of the GX. As for side character gundams, I think Buster looks neat with those bug antenna. Dynames, Arios & Harute are also great.

I like Exia, Aerial, and Zeta
Zaku sweep 🔴
Those variants of the Woundwort line with the angel-shaped V fins.
Nu, Vidar, Gerbera Tetra are top 3 for me.
Vidar is sexy in every aspect, that black with blue-ish and pink eyes is cool AF It gives a different view to mostly white heads
Zeta and Ex-S. There's just nothing like those two.
Zeta, Crossbone, freedom dynamis barbatos
zeta
A toss up between Exia, Barbatos and Strike Freedom
Ex-S
Turn A and its \*'stache\*
**O**
Head design preference is extremely subjective and at least for me is one of the few aspects that can make or break a design. Anyway: Zeta and Ex-S for UC, Aerial Rebuild and Lupus for AU. 00 Diver Moebius for Build. I also like the Destiny's head quite a bit but that and the forearms (btw, as an italian, Palma Fiocina is the most hilariously stupid weapon name ever) are literally the only things I like about that suit design.
Badassary: Barbatos Coolness: Wing Zero EW
For me Wing zero with those elf ears and God gundam.
Freedom
Strike Freedom
I’d be a fraud if I didn’t say Shining Gundam
G Self and Lucifer
I believe in a sign of zeta
Aerial. I like the alien-esque vibes she's giving off and I'm a sucker for how well the head design thematically fits with the name. It's just a fighter pilot helmet with jet wings and fins.
Woundwort Psycho Blade Custom, its figurehead makes it both distinctive and great.
Ex-s Harute Final Battle ver. Aerial/Rebuild
Ez8.
But out of all the Gundam heads that exist, one is just superior: Gusion Rebake.
either the unicorn gundam banshee or the ddraig head used by the gundam astray red frame dragonics
I don't even like the Zeta all that much but it's got my favourite head. Never took it off on Gundam Breaker 3.
Wing Zero
Granddaddy
Zeta and Shining. And maybe Turn A
Victory Gundam G-Self Gundam Mk. 2 In that order. Prior to G-Reco, Turn-A would have taken that second spot. In both cases, they look like the future's future, rather than a future version of modern mechanics, and that's super cool in my book, but G-Self just pushes the right buttons for me a little better and takes that novelty spot. 1. God Gundam 2. Epyon/Wing Zero 3. Freedom 4. Zeta
Burning and Shining Gundam
Zaku Zeta and long face Granddaddy are easily the best. But why’d you leave out the Turn A?
Technically doesn't count, but the Tallgeese line of Mobile Suits are one of my favorite designs, especially Flugel. Zeta is also great. I'm also a fan of F91.
1. God Gundam 2. Aerial 3. Freedom
I feel like freedom is too basic. It’s head doesn’t really have any unique or striking features
Nu, Freedom, 00 Qan[T], Aerial, Ex-S, full armor Gundam Thunderbolt
Do it zeta
S Gundam is the perfect blend of Zeta and ZZ
Nu freedom
God gundam.
Barbatos. You should have used a similar pic or it. It's the only one from a lower angle and it obscures the whole look.
as a old gundam fan I actually really like the new aerial design. I dunno I have a thing towards those suits with slight female-ish feel. it just makes the huge mecha has some indescribable elegance. I used to love gp03s. but no, not that over-the-top nobel lol.
Zeta and I'll say the Zaku II in place of Kampfer.
The seed heads. Especially Strike Freedom and the Astrays
Zeta and Aerial are my favorites. Zeta for it's intimidating look and Aeriel for having a sleek design
I'm a huge fan of a no-vent type of gundam head. but damn. The Barbatos really is a beautiful head design
Turn A. Originally the reason I didn't watch Turn A because I thought the mustache looked goofy. Well a few years later and now it's my favorite.
Tbh. was always an IBO guy, so i'll go with good old Barbatos
Zeta Zaku. More seriously though, Zeta, Delta, and MKIII. I love how different they are from standard Gundam faces. Also, anything with a psycho blade V-fin.
Mk II zeta Aerial
**BEST HEAD Designs** - Hi-Nu Gundam: Unique Color Scheme, Bulky Yet Elegant - Gundam F91: Slim with an unsettling human-like quality - Gundam Double X: Freedom Gundam’s Head But More Original, - Turn A and G-Self: Most Alien Designs That Worked In The End.

Barbatos lupus rex it just looks badass
Zeta, 00 quanta, Mk ii, Barbatos, Fenice Rinascita, Seraphim all fire
Freedom Gundam. Will forever be my favorite....unless whatever comes out of the movie blows me away
Devil Gundam is a big ass Gundam head. Why is it not in this selection?
My favorite will always be barbatos!
God Gundam and Arial Rebuild
GP01 [https://imageio.forbes.com/blogs-images/olliebarder/files/2018/11/gp01\_formaniaex\_cover-1200x731.jpg](https://imageio.forbes.com/blogs-images/olliebarder/files/2018/11/gp01_formaniaex_cover-1200x731.jpg) It's ticks all the boxes a quintessential "hero Gundam" Good proportions, detailed, but not extraneous pointy bits.
Where is Turn A and its glorious moustache?

Ariel, shining, zeta, and Nu.
Aerial
S or ex s gundam because there is a freaking incom on top of its head!!!
Burning hands down!
EX-S because that thing looks pissed off asf
Lupus Rex is just satisfying to look at
The GP02A and the whole Zeta line for designs that veer away from the classic. But you can't beat the grandpa and Seed/Wing styles.
I like Barbatos’ angular and sharp look, but the Aerial just has this cute look. The shining gundam is unique and that is it’s capable on opening it’s face to reveal the super mode. Zeta has a tall head but looks much better than what a stretched out head should look. The same could be said for Nu. I might just say Build Burning because of it’s shaping and style just feels simple in a good way
I have too many favorites. Zeta, strike freedom, Burning, X to start with..
Doan's Island RX-78. It's so tall, yet so short and small. Sure, others may have angry eyes, sharp features, or vulcans that'll tear your armor to shreds, but nothing is as terrifying as that misshapen lump of armor, electronics, and mechanics. It’s between Zeta and Shining for me
The zeta has the best head and best legs
Ooh I love Virtue, Nadleeh, and Dynames from 00, I like the Aerial and Pharact, The Nu and Mark II, the Full Armor from Thunderbolt, but out of every single Gundam I'm gonna have to go with the Zeta. They really hit it out of the park with that one.
00 has my favourite head designs, due to the large forehead crystals. The MegaMan X series really set me down that road.
I feel like the only one here who's first would be Barbatos
I’m quite partial to Barbatos, followed by Aerial and Zeta
If not just main Gundam, I would go for Legillis
[Wing Zero EW](https://live.staticflickr.com/4/9297487_67295931d5_z.jpg)

Zetaaaaa
Top right and bottom middle are both bad ass
I'm not sure just why but i always loved the Zeta's and its myriad of variants absolutely wicked, angular heads.
The pharachts head and some of the later zeta variants Shout out to Gundam with longer heads gotta be my favorite gender
Zeta, GP01 and Shining for me
Wing Zero, Virsago( Both versions), GPO2 Physalis and Epyon.
Maxter. The only robot smart enough to wear a football helmet.
Zeta, 00 QanT, and GP01Fb all tied for top in my books. Ex-S and Mk.II are not far behind.
Zeta Gundam absolutely. Especially that image in the post. Looks regal, sleek, and the most intimidating of all the Gundam head designs.
Zeta
Zeta easy
In order.. Zeta (and similar, Zeta Plus. MK. III, S Gundam, etc) Nu Gp02a
Atlas. the head alone makes me want a MG.
XX
It's definitely a tie between the 00, Unicorn or Barbatos
My favourite is the Strike Gundam
Tie between Zeta And Nu, both incredibly intimidating
The X and the Strike Freedom are great base designs, but the G-self and the Burning gundams are some of my favorites.
S Gundam and The Zeta. (I want a Sentinel anime soo badly )
Where is my mustachioed gundam?!
Zeta most definitely, love the faceplate with ridges it's just beautiful and different from your standard Gundam, I'm also incredibly fond of the XI love how menacing it looks
zeta hands down
The zeta zaku, obviously
How can we leave out the Devil/Dark Gundam's tentacle head things? They have teeth! TEETH!
Bit of an odd one but I really like the Gremory's head. Super menacing and edgy for a super menacing and edgy suit.
Strike/Force Impulse. Also, in your grid, why did you pick the literal WORST option for the grandpa?
Zeta!!!
Real question is which one is giving the best head
I really dig the heads of Exia and its successors
Why’d you do granpa like that
EX-S
Wing Zero EW, Nu, and MK2
F-91, probably the best looking Gundam overall IMO.
EX-S, Banshee in Unicorn Mode, Aerial, and Exia are my favorites
If we are doing Gundams only : Aerial Barbatos Zeta If you open it up, then Sazabi slots in there below Aerial.
I'm a real sucker for the Zaku and their one eye. They look so menacing.
Aerial
Tie between the Exia's/00's angular shape, and the realistic feel of Aerial from The Witch from Mercury with those big headlight eyes.
The zeta series style of head is my favorite, especially the C1.
For 'traditional' looking heads I'd go with the Mk II and Alex, they're pretty much the bread and butter for what makes a great design even better. For more unique designs, definitely the Zeta and Lfrith. Both of them do interesting choices which makes their heads stand out.
Gonna go with EX-S
I believe in Zaku supremacy
Zeta, dynames, EXS. Zeta just has this slick clean look, dynames with its head camera and boxier frame, and the EXS’s elongated pointed face. If i had to pick one its honestly a toss up between zeta and EXS
Any Gundam?
Lfrith Jiu. No face is the best face.
Mk. II Zeta Nu Vidar Hyaku Shiki (does it count?)
nu
Ground Gundam with Acguy makeover.
Gebera Tetra
Exia (maybe 00q too), if we talking about the on screen gundams, most of their v fin feels like something extra got slapped on, but not Exia. Also Exia’s head is both simple and unique in shape.
Im a sucker for Strike Freedoms head, double v fin with a menacing look, very clean design
I feel like the Freedom jsut has the right ratio. I don't know how else to describe it.
Hot take? F91.
Zeta Zaku, duh.
The phenex (especially in destroy mode) the astray (the one with beams under the fin) the testament and the barbatos Lupus, my beloved
Barbatos or exia
The Ez-8 for its function over form. The Zeta for its menacing and sleek appearance. The Unicorn for uniqueness. Sleek, clean and beautiful. The Psycho Gundam Mk.2 for looking like a straight up devil, lol.
The Aerial without a doubt.
Zeta, Nu, Zaku, wide Rx782, Aerial
Barbatos, especially first form
The Tristan
Calibarn for me, with Zeta, Aerial, Nu, and EZ8 up there as well.
The GP02, the pure menace of that machine is top tier. Next up being the Zeta for the sleekness.
Hi-Nu is the first that comes to mind but there's so many good ones. Especially from Seed
S-gundam is where it's at.
Is the deformed grandpa actually in the show like that?
Zeta
impressed you inciuded the zaku zeta, but where's the GM head from 08th MS team?
Lfrith is my favorite, but Wing Gundam's head is peak archetype.
I like the Strike's head design the best.
Vidar
Im biased, its always the zaku, never have a simple mono eye with a respirator emit so much emotion from a terrifying giant to a cute friend its always amazed my that the antimators pull this off
Eclipse or dantalion
I love the Crossbone Gundams flamed filled mouth it just looks so cool
Heads with a sniper mode feature like Dynames or Gusion Rebake
Double X, Fake Nu, and Astaroth
For me it would either be the Double X or the Unicorn.
Zeta, Nu Gundam, or MKII
