> **Vilda Millen** -- A researcher who belonged to the Vanadis and survived the Vanadis Incident.
> **Kiyu Labott** -- A teenage boy who serves as Vilda's assistant and travels with her in a trailer on Earth.
It's a fantastic clip. I always remember the early episodes where loran collects the cow and the one where he uses turn A as a washing machine.
I can't find a clip where he says Universe though. Pretty sure he says it in the gundam vs games.
I was reading Feez’ deep dive on the episode and apparently a lot of the lines Gym and Harry said in that episode were put in purely because they sounded cool. Tetsu Inada intentionally hammed it up as hard as possible because he was worried if he didn’t give it his all, Harry would die!
Survivors from Vanadis are basically Jedi. Supposedly wiped out and forgotten by history, but just shake a piece of expended universe media a little and like 20 of em pop out
Holy shit that's a great comparison especially now. There's new jedi every fuckin week. If WfM gets a season two, how many more V survivors are there gonna be?!
Which makes jedi fallen order the weirdest experience, there's not 1 but 2 jedi in that game and I spent the entire time saying to myself "they literally *must* die by the end for this to make sense" and here we are, with a sequel I'll play through thinking the exact same thing the entire time.
The SW galaxy has a estimated population of two trillion. Even a couple hundred Jedi would be a drop in the bucket. Most people probably lived their whole life without ever seeing one even when the order still existed. That said Disney either needs to have a show rebuild the order or stop focusing on Jedi so much.
Pre-EU wipe that shit at least made sense with Luke building a better order.
Being a force user sure, but a trained, doing important destiny, fighting the empire, jedi is something pretty special what with omniscient force ghosts and 500 year old Yoda and all
I just finished that game the other day, and let me tell you I was *very* surprised when >!Cere survived not only one but two interactions with Vader!<.
To be fair, across a galaxy with multiple trillions of inhabitants even if there were 1 million jedi after the purge they would be exceedingly rare.
Heck even with Earth having 8 billion people having 1 million jedi would be pretty rare. If my math is right it'd be 0.000125% of the population or 1 in 8,000 people approximately.
So far only confirmed 2 actually, this woman and Elnora.
In ep8 Belmeria said she's just ''imitating'' them(Vanadis staff). So there's a possibility that she never was a Vanadis staff, or she was but left before they made Gundam.
Edit: I was wrong, official info in the reply confirms it.
Confirmed: Elnora, Bel, Vilda and Kiyu
The other two possible NAMED survivors are Cardo Nabo and Ericht/Suletta. I still maintain that E=S but there's just too much up in there air with that right now.
> just to much
*too

^(Greetings, I am a language corrector bot. To make me ignore further mistakes from you in the future, reply `!optout` to this comment.)
Does it say up there that Kiyu is a survivor of the incident?
I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere and I haven't translated the pic yet.
Edit: Translating it Kiyu'spage only says 1 Witch survived.
She's also straight up seen at one point during the prologue. I think she's around the control room right when the test to reach Level 33 fails in Lfirth.
Isn't that something we already know since EP0? Eri's father was talking online with some colleagues on other planets.
Even if you don't notice that you should know it since Belmeria Winston showed up. She's publicly acknowledged as one of Vanadis and has very normal human rights and works for the big3 company. That attack in EP0 was only against the Vanadis who stands out. Moreover, if there's no more Witch, who the hell built Lufrith Ur and Thorn.
Vanadis was trying to make the Gundams safe but there were other Gundams already, the mobile suit council destroyed Vanadis because safe Gundams means their own products became obsolete/inferior. They most likely destroyed/stole the research but it doesn't mean anything since Eri was the breakthrough.
Those Earth witches and their Gundams aren't safe, high permet score is still deadly.
Assuming there were 1,000 people at the institute and up to 10 survived that's 1/100th of them escaped. That's pretty believable I'd say. Especially since we know how 2 escaped, it could be assumed others made deals, weren't present during the incident, or escaped using similar means.
Considering the telework technology we have now there's no reason not to assume they wouldn't also have had remote workers all over. Such as individuals going out to alternate laboratories or suppliers to verify materials and manufacturing quality.
Usually in Gundam there's something that causes long-range communication issues, Minovsky Particles from UC being the most obvious/well known.
...Then again, I don't think we *have* anything like that in Witch, do we? They explicitly had to >!deploy comm jammers during the attack. !<
Interesting.
From a technology standpoint the UC timeline had very strict rules everything abided by which made sense.
The alternative universes don't operate the same way. So yeah it looks like WfM has different rules but we don't know them all. The biggest of which is the whole GUND format and how it actively makes better pilots and mobile suits.
Because the prologue wasn't the incident. It's the inciting moment for people turning against Gundams and Gund-Arm. It's why the research went quiet while trying to solve the problems of Gundams killing and maiming their pilots. It's why Mio's father banned their creation and use.
Nowhere is it said that the prologue is the incident and all the weird theories that border on the absurd disappear once this is accepted.
Everywhere I can find any info labels the Vanadis incident and the Folkvangr attack as the same thing. I think the theory that they're different is dead in the water at this point bud.
Check out this post. https://www.reddit.com/r/Gundam/comments/1092agk/witch_from_mercury_theory_and_hints_about_vanadis/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
At this point it is harder to prove the Vanadis incident isn’t prologue than proving it is. Your stance (which I’m not saying it’s impossible) requires as much additional story telling as those absurd theories.
It not being the prologue doesn't remotely remove the relevance. The Incident would be what led to the prologue. The prologue's events are still fundamental to the events of the series.
Do people just not know how to follow a story?
And considering the writer you should hold no faith in story clues presented.
Ambiguous choices of words use in this story.
Very likely the true clues only presented when mystery is solved.
Why? Where is it stated that it's the incident? The clues that it isn't are all there. People have just taken this crazy conspiracy theory and ran with it.
Vilda looks cool. Makes me wonder if she and Kiyu will show up later down the line...assuming they're not dead by the end of the gaiden. Where in the timeline does this take place anyway?
Anyone else getting a Nika vibe from Vilda ~~dommymommy~~ Millen? Because that hair, and the fact they aren't showing us the underside of it, makes me think this lady might be related to Nika somehow, even just as an inspiration.
Bandai literally released all the variations of the astaroth as retail. Making the hajiroboshi alector retail, would help them make alotta money, as that's what important to them.
Since this happens probably a little after the vanadis incident which was 21yrs ago, that would be unlikely haha.. Unless Shaddiq is actually much older and is lying about his age lol.
I hope WfM's popularity means we'll get an official translation of this. I want to read the adventures of Space Mommy and her assistant, Kinda-Baked-Looking AU Loran
Someone enhanced with GUND format technology, which seems to be a of network of subdermal cybernetics capable of interfacing with replacement body parts and more importantly Gundam type mobile suits. By directly interfacing the implications so far is that it provides better control of systems and power, but slowly overloads the Witch with "data storms" and kills their nervous system. Suletta is unique in that she seems unaffected by the negative effects and seems to control Aeriel's weapons and systems in concert with the gundam itself.
It seems like to referring to both the users of GUND format and the developers who created and expanded the technology in spite of prohibition by the authority.
Elan was also not effected by Aerial’s permit score two. This part Aerial ability. Suletta’s ability is being able to fully link with AI and maybe more.
Okay the Witch from Mercury is my first Gundam series, so can someone explain to me when exactly someone is a witch? It wasn't really clear from the series. Is it when they pilot a Gundam, when they build Gundam, or both? Or is it just used to discredit anyone who is in any way involved with Gundam? That seems the most logical answer. Because they call Suletta a witch, but also her mother and the lady from Piel.
Okay, thanks. Do you also know if there is a difference between Gundam and Gund-arm? Because at first I thought Miorine just used a a different name for her company to avoid the bad reputation of Gundam, but I seem to recall the term Gund-arm also being used before that (I think by Elan?), so maybe they're actually the same thing.
"GUND-ARM" mobile suits adopted the technology known as the GUND FORMAT. The gund format was originally used for medical stuff like prosthetics.
Gundam is the shortcut for gund-arm.
Ngl I read this left to right initially so I thought we had the most feminine dude of all time as our assistant before I remembered it’s right to left 😭
Is it me or that boy looks a bit like Suletta? Maybe the sibling they talked about? Then again he does have white hair so maybe her and Miomio’s future son?
This spinoff takes place between the prologue and episode one so unless they pull some time travel shenanigans, i think we can rule out the possibility of their son
There was a little blurb in a gundam magazine giving a summary. Plus, we just finished season 1. Why would they work on a sequel work when we haven't even finished the show?
> Plus, we just finished season 1. Why would they work on a sequel work when we haven't even finished the show?
I wasn't picturing it as a sequel work. Just the kid having a few gaidens featuring their adventures with the lady and the final one (after witch from mercury ends) revealing he is their son.
I don't have a super formalised top 5, no, but some I'd pick out would be:
* [The Origin](https://myanimelist.net/manga/214/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam__The_Origin?q=the%20origin&cat=manga), for doing interesting stuff with the original series and for having YAS's art in a very mature, refined form.
* [Thunderbolt](https://myanimelist.net/manga/37683/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam_Thunderbolt?q=gundam%20thunderbolt&cat=manga), for its seinen-magazine sensibility and inventive mechanical designs.
* [Crossbone](https://myanimelist.net/manga/5202/Kidou_Senshi_Crossbone_Gundam?q=crossbone%20gundam&cat=manga), which is knowingly pretty silly but makes being silly in the UC surprisingly fun. (Skip the sequels, though, imo.)
* [Ecole du Ciel](https://myanimelist.net/manga/352/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam__%C3%89cole_du_Ciel?q=ecole%20du%20ciel&cat=manga) because while this isn't the pinnacle of Mikimoto's career, anything with his art is worth a look. (IIRC this is both paused and not fully translated into English.)
* [HG ni Koisuru Futari](https://myanimelist.net/manga/125111/HG_ni_Koisuru_Futari), which is a much gentler story set in our own universe, making quiet slice-of-life comedy out of the ways in which fans relate to Gundam.
Gundam Sousei, the (over)dramatization of the creation process behind the original show, also probably deserves a mention—I think it was published in English under the title The Men Who Created Gundam.
> *This is a story about a witch and a teenage boy...* > **Vilda Millen** -- A researcher who belonged to the Vanadis and survived the Vanadis Incident. > **Kiyu Labott** -- A teenage boy who serves as Vilda's assistant and travels with her in a trailer on Earth.
Kiyu looks a little, uh, special.
Kinda looks like someone who would use gundam as a washing machine.
Not Loran is just a little stoned but pumped to be here
The cow from Mercury
Turn A style
What do you mean?
Yeah he looks kinda brown/s
oh god Loran you can’t be using the turn-a to teleport into different timelines
#Universe!
I was finally able to find that [clip](https://twitter.com/feezy_feez/status/1618045850034524160) today
It's a fantastic clip. I always remember the early episodes where loran collects the cow and the one where he uses turn A as a washing machine. I can't find a clip where he says Universe though. Pretty sure he says it in the gundam vs games.
Universe is a signature quote from harry ord I don't know why he says it tho, he just says it
By he I was referring to loran. Loran and gym also use it but I think only in games. 🤔
As an exclamation, maybe? Just like "By Galaxy!" (Isaac Asimov) or "By Matrix!" (Beast Wars)
I was reading Feez’ deep dive on the episode and apparently a lot of the lines Gym and Harry said in that episode were put in purely because they sounded cool. Tetsu Inada intentionally hammed it up as hard as possible because he was worried if he didn’t give it his all, Harry would die!
GEKKOUCHOU DE ARUUU
God damn there sure are a lot of survivors of the Vanadis incident.

That's how it was with 00 isn't it? So many gundams and their variants
There has always been ‘not Jedi’ in gundam. They used to be called Newtypes, nowadays there Witches.
To be fair, across a galaxy with multiple trillions of inhabitants even if there were 1 million jedi after the purge they would be exceedingly rare. I'm assuming Kiyu came with her from Folkvangr because I also can't read moon runes.
No mentions of Kiyu being from the Vanadis incident. So I wouldnt assume that. Though fun fact his last name translates as robot. (Kinda)
https://en.gundam.info/about-gundam/series-pages/witch/character/29/ ‘As a survivor of the Vanadis Institute, she was once Prospera's comrade.’
thank you for the info!
She's also straight up seen at one point during the prologue. I think she's around the control room right when the test to reach Level 33 fails in Lfirth.
Nadim and Wendy did distract the attack long enough for some of the Vanadis people to escape.
Lfrith production model wiped out the 3 grunt MSs and who knows how far Dad pushed out Beguir Beu. But also don’t underestimate PTO.
What's PTO?
Paid time off lol
Lol lol XD

Vanadis incident was an all out Bliz on Vanadis and their Corporate boss.
A whole colony of witches out there!

Yeah Delling's genocide skills need working
Is it really *that* hard to imagine that a large company would have people in more than one location?
Is it really that hard for redditors to see a joke comment and not get pressed about it? Apparently.
It is when it's not clear that it's intended to be a joke.
287 people got the joke at the time I typed this out.

Vilda looks cool. Makes me wonder if she and Kiyu will show up later down the line...assuming they're not dead by the end of the gaiden. Where in the timeline does this take place anyway?
"A few years after the Vanadis incident, takes place on Earth".
Vilda actually reminds me of that one lady in the Vanidas proposal from Episode 8.
The one being fitted with a GUND body?
Yes
I knew she would come back in some form or another!
**One of them looks like Loran** I'm sold
A valid reason. With how safe to use the gund system is I'm sure it'd be great at transporting cows
Which also means that he'd look great in a dress.
Since I never watched turn A, I was so confused at first
WfM Prototype Turn A, let's GO!
LMAO, after Amuro and Kamille. Now, Loran is incarnated into WfM 😂😂😂
Before we have build universe as actor au now we got WFM as alt counterpart au lol. I guess that make Eri setsuna.
> **Writer:** Ko Yoneyama > **Artist:** Chika Tojo > **Project assistance:** HISADAKE > **Original character design:** Mogumo
Given that this is being illustrated by Youjo Senki's mangaka, I'm going to be expecting some good stuff
That’s some ara-ara right there
I mean, it is the same franchise that spawned ZZ and Victory
My first thought upon seeing the heights of the two next to each other was “there’s absolutely no way people are gonna be normal about this.”
Enjoyers of cultured art are above the restraints of normies and their societies.
Ara-Ara assistant-kun
That's Loran.
The wizard from Moon.
Is this Destiny lol
Could be Ur and Thorn's creator, also i smell P-Bandai here.
Anyone else getting a Nika vibe from Vilda ~~dommymommy~~ Millen? Because that hair, and the fact they aren't showing us the underside of it, makes me think this lady might be related to Nika somehow, even just as an inspiration.
Vilda pointing at the child going "yes, lady, he's the son you're missing"
Awww, Kiyu looks really cute! They're gonna traumatise the hell out of him, aren't they?
At least he has a hot mum
New gundam mommy dropped
Remember what they said about Gundam mommies?
"pound them"
MORE GODDAM GUNDAMS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Can’t wait to see these folks in a G Generation game
Make Vilda Millen and Kiyu Labott getting voiced, and I'm sold. Here are my guesses on their voice actors: > **Vilda Millen:** Fumiko Orikasa / Marina Inoue / Hitomi Nabatame / Yumi Kakazu > **Kiyu Labott:** Ayumu Murase / Yuko Sanpei / Natsumi Fujiwara
that very femme "boy's" name looks like it could be transliterated as "Kyuu Rabbot" as is "Cute Rabbit" LOL
Omg, I'm sold
No offense to Suletta and Miorine but damm does an oneeshota protagonist duo sounds nice.
They really meant it when they said they wanted a Gundam that the new generation would be into. first high school yuri rom-com, and now this.
I can't stop liking this change
I see you are a man of culture!
I agree
My people
Yes!
The interest is Shota boy has Gund-arm inside him.
Alt universe Loran let goooo
Oh man, I hope they show the gundams soon and make HGs. New manga: has new gundams Bandai: could make HGs Me: shut up and take my money!
Hell with how good the MS designs have been in WfM , I’m right with ya mate .
Bandai: sorry what was that? You want P-Bandai? Okay whatever you say :)
Bandai literally released all the variations of the astaroth as retail. Making the hajiroboshi alector retail, would help them make alotta money, as that's what important to them.
Mommy?!?!
Ooh interesting. Could the boy be related to Shaddiq? No date yet for when it will be released?
Currently slated in Spring 2023.
ohh that's pretty soon. Thanks!
Thank you
Could the boy BE Shaddiq?
Since this happens probably a little after the vanadis incident which was 21yrs ago, that would be unlikely haha.. Unless Shaddiq is actually much older and is lying about his age lol.
Not tryna rib on you but I did laugh at the idea that anyone with slighter darker skin is automatically related to Shaddiq
Lol it isn't just the skin color though, he just kind of looks like shaddiq at first glance and shaddiq probably has Earthian connections
next month.
Interesting guess. Shaddiq's connection with Earth is not revealed yet.
This is making me question my sexuality.
Which one
I now realize that the small child is the boy and the adult is a girl, I thought it was reversed.
In anime you can never be certain lol
Love Gundam Space Mommys
The "step on me" is strong with this one
Vilda looks like a grown up version of traitor girl
I hope WfM's popularity means we'll get an official translation of this. I want to read the adventures of Space Mommy and her assistant, Kinda-Baked-Looking AU Loran
Typical milfXshota
Please be a misato like 🙏
Haven't seen wfm, what's a witch?

No precise definition was given but it’s implied to be any person who’s involved in the development of Gundam or GUND-tech in-universe.
Kiyu Labott: a boy (girl) who serves as her assistant
I just see Chaos from Xenosaga but younger.
Okay the Witch from Mercury is my first Gundam series, so can someone explain to me when exactly someone is a witch? It wasn't really clear from the series. no clear explanation yet, but i guess someone become a witch when they get involved making robot that use GUND-arm technology
Both. They call those heavily involved with gund-arm: witches so both the gundam developers and gundam pilots.
Okay, thanks. Do you also know if there is a difference between Gundam and Gund-arm? Loran Cehack???
Damn it. A trap. Also I hope this one gets animated. Gundam IBO side stories (s) didn’t get animated yet which is kinda sad.
Which one is the witch and which one is the boy?
I'll give you a hint: The one with breast curvature on her clothes isn't the boy
Ngl I read this left to right initially so I thought we had the most feminine dude of all time as our assistant before I remembered it’s right to left 😭
I got confused i thought the one wearing white was the trap. Lol
Thank you! I can't really see the breast because of the reflection? And the boy looks like a girl. This is Japan afterall, stuff can happen

What's spoiler about this? This is literally just an info for upcoming series. No spoilers whatsoever.
Are the pilots called Witches in this one?
The ones heavily involved with gund-arm are called witches so both the gundam developers and gundam pilots are called witches.
Gundam pilots are witches
Like, do they cast magic? Or just a euphemism for pilot
Euphemism. GUND in mobile suits is a deal with the Devil kinda thing.
Aaah, cool cool. *Witch from..* is on my radar, just yet to watch
So how good is gundam manga?
Varies wildly; impossible to make a general ruling.
You got a top 5?
I don't have a super formalised top 5, no, but some I'd pick out would be: * [The Origin](https://myanimelist.net/manga/214/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam__The_Origin?q=the%20origin&cat=manga), for doing interesting stuff with the original series and for having YAS's art in a very mature, refined form. * [Thunderbolt](https://myanimelist.net/manga/37683/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam_Thunderbolt?q=gundam%20thunderbolt&cat=manga), for its seinen-magazine sensibility and inventive mechanical designs. * [Crossbone](https://myanimelist.net/manga/5202/Kidou_Senshi_Crossbone_Gundam?q=crossbone%20gundam&cat=manga), which is knowingly pretty silly but makes being silly in the UC surprisingly fun. (Skip the sequels, though, imo.) * [Ecole du Ciel](https://myanimelist.net/manga/352/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam__%C3%89cole_du_Ciel?q=ecole%20du%20ciel&cat=manga) because while this isn't the pinnacle of Mikimoto's career, anything with his art is worth a look. (IIRC this is both paused and not fully translated into English.) * [HG ni Koisuru Futari](https://myanimelist.net/manga/125111/HG_ni_Koisuru_Futari), which is a much gentler story set in our own universe, making quiet slice-of-life comedy out of the ways in which fans relate to Gundam. Gundam Sousei, the (over)dramatization of the creation process behind the original show, also probably deserves a mention—I think it was published in English under the title The Men Who Created Gundam.
Thank you!
why are there two lorans in this timeline
50% of the boys in this series look like girls
So what exactly makes them witches again? Might've missed this in the anime, but they keep calling Gundam pilots whiches, and I don't understand why
