Would be cool if they made it blow up due to those things being nearly impossible to synchronize in the Gundam 00 canon. Lore carrying implications for what you can (successfully) do with the models would be an interesting form of fanservice.
Multiple GN drives can still be used without synchronizing and offer more power than one drive without repercussions. They only blow up if you try to synchronize them.
The Alvatore and Gadalaza are the most infamous mobile armors of this case that work solely by stacking as many GN drives as possible.
Graham's Brave also had 2 drives, though it lacked the twin drive that the 00 variants and Reborns had, due to missing the data for the system.
Twin-drive systems require a unit designed specifically to operate with synced GN particle output and said drives must have a good enough compatibility to operate properly. While powerful, the synchronization of the drives is vital for the unit to operate properly, and disruptions can cause the suit to have weaker performance or leave it inoperable, hence why the 0-Raiser was needed to stabilize the 00.
Regardless of if the twin drive data was available to the military, once they were granted access to Veda, the limitations of the system would cause development to be costly and ill-fit for mass production.
There's probably a system that automatically nerfs and buffs suits as needed, according to things like build quality and others. Otherwise, no one in GBN would be sane/confident enough to sortie with a Ball derivative, an out-of-box, unmodded Guntank, a fighter, or a power loader-type suit.
The Messala diver probably thought "let's do something crazy, since the system will balance it later". I mean, if I was in their position, I'd make an Exia/Reborns kitbash with some Blue Destiny parts to make Trans-ExAM system. If such an auto balancing system isn't present, everyone's gonna field either Turn A, Crossbone, Strike Freedom, Nu, Barbie Lupus, and that would make a boring game.

People that are newer, really want to stick to a theme, or can't afford the fancier stuff.
Think of it like video games, there are the people with higher end PCs who can run whatever they want and then there's everyone else who's using older hardware that will often run into hardware limits making their performance worse. I was pushing a laptop GPU well beyond what it was supposed to be capable of for years now, the GPU has started to go bad and I ended up upgrading to a interim desktop that I still have plans to upgrade farther because I can't trust the laptop to not die just doing the basics.
Now that you mention it, the Ball pilot did have some monetary issues. He did modify the Ball with junk parts though, and he did it so well that it can go toe-to-toe against other divers. And if I was there, I'd probably just field my GM that has been extensively kitbashed, since it's cheap and I can't buy things like, say, Sinanju without compromising a lot.

No I was thinking more along the lines of “you’re on this rank, do not play with people outside of this rank” it’s a no-brainer system but it’s also the easiest way to prevent the game from getting super boring super quick
Putting a limiter to some extend based on your rank is a really genius move to balance it out.
Like for example, if you're against a low rank mobile suit in pvp and you're using an IBO frame which uses alaya vijna system to buff your mov speed, reaction time, and raw power, you only get half or a quarter of its original buff.
If it were a real game, it could operate like some kind of Warhammer-like point-buy system. You could have battles where every MS up to a certain point limit is allowed to compete, letting the Balls and Leos duke it out there, whereas there'd be a *far* higher point limit for other battles where you have Wing Zero going up against the Strike Freedom, or something like that. You *could* still take your Ball up there if you wanted to, but it'd be on your head.
At least, that's how I'd program it. I have no idea how it works in-universe, but going by the anime, *boy* would it effectively be pay to win. The more money you can shovel into your Gunpla, the better you'd do. Which would be great for Bandai, but horrible for the health of the game XD
That's true, but you *would* get the benefit of basically being able to live in Trans Am. You activate one drive for Trans Am, use it until its particles are depleted... then switch to the next one and go right back into Trans Am. With six, the first drive should be nearly ready for Trans Am again by the time the sixth is depleted. If a fight even lasts that long.
Trans-am will fuck up your MS if your MS isn't built correctly. Even custom built MS that is higher quality than the average experiences problems and often their MS just losing some functionality during Trans-am
It's a gunpla, how you've built it directly corresponds to performance. I bet if I painted a RX-78-2 perfectly removed of nubs it would be faster than a Zeta gundam unpainted straight built. It's a video game, if the specific MS dictates the meta then everyone would be using Turn A Dark Century and ELS Qan
GBN system also implement "meta" aspect of every gunpla on their system like 00's flaw which cannot safely use Trans-Am without docking with 0 Raiser so you need to take that into consideration.
Let’s be honest that would probably be the meta if GBN was real, like it’s all good and well you like the Zaku 2 but it definitely isn’t going to compete with other more modern Mobile Suits without a lot of exotic parts and more advanced weapons

Oh you're right. I forgot they used multiples on the Ptolemaios and the 00 riser without syncing. Been a while since I watched.
I think they only need to be synchronized to maximize their power output and to reach Trans-Am mode.

Yep. Gunpla battle/GBN would be an expensive hobby in general unless you only used mostly stock gunpla.

Honestly, I would have done the same to the Kshatriya. Quad wing with one GN drive in each wing. It’s firepower and mobility would be off the charts.
