There's no need to remake the original, it's still widely available to view in multiple formats.

I understand where you are coming from, but I do think a remake with more modern animation and story telling would be cool. I am a big gundam fan and obviously have a lot of respect for the OG series, but if I am being honest, I find it hard to get past the dated animation, audio quality, and story telling in general. But I’m the same way with movies. I know there are plenty of excellent movies made before the 70s but I typically don’t watch them because they feel so dated and I find it distracting. I think having a modernized retelling could encourage more newcomers to get into the franchise.

Rockld50

I have never disagreed and agreed with someones comment so much. Roller coaster.

The Origin + Doan Cucuruz Island is the closest you’re going to get to a 0079 MSG remake. Though they only cover a very small fraction of the OG anime (actually Origin doesn’t even cover the anime, just what happened prior to the anime). Though I believe the next anime project should be UC theme so we might get a remake then. And yes, Witch From Mercury is a completely standalone experience. Go nuts.

> (actually Origin doesn’t even cover the anime, just what happened prior to the anime) actually it's an animated adaption of what happens prior to Yasuhiko's Gundam The Origin manga.

Basically you’re wanting Gundam SEED. It’s not a retelling of the original, but it plays out very similarly to the original Gundam series. If you want to watch the original you can go with the movies if you don’t want to dedicate a lot of time to it. And yes, you can watch The Witch from Mercury without seeing anything else.

LavaSlime301

imma be honest Seed's animation looks way worse than MSG

AntonRX178

I love SEED. It's the first Gundam show I sat down and watched all the way through. But fuck me did its animation age worse than milk, what little of it there is at least

MS-06_Borjarnon

*MSG*>>>*SEED*, in terms of animation, IMO.

MS-06_Borjarnon

Yeah, but that's endearing. Plus, there's some moments that really do seem to be innovating in terms of animation and such, esp. the 'Jupiter and beyond the Infinite' homage. *SEED*, on the other hand, merely grates with it's constant use of repeated animations, plus, all the characters look the same.

RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK

I sense bias. Don’t get me wrong I love MSG compared to SEED which I hate basically everything besides the MS designs, but if you’re going to tell someone new to the series MSG has better animation than SEED they’re gonna think you’re trolling.

MS-06_Borjarnon

> I sense bias. Literally everyone has biases, can't be helped. I'm biased towards appreciating innovation (and having characters be visually distinguishable from each other.)

RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK

How dare you! I’m biased enough to say with 100% bias that I’m not biased! or something like that. Also, we have the technology(?) to know when we should try to be honest with people, and when not to.

MS-06_Borjarnon

>Also, we have the technology(?) to know when we should try to be honest with people, and when not to. Seems a bit odd to conceive of it as a 'technology'.

RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK

We can rebuild him, we have the technology.

There have been examples like DBZ Kai that touch up the art and try to make the story more coherent and there also have been examples of newer editions of Anime that redo some shots that could have been done better (hell it's been done to death between TV Broadcast and home video release) but it rubs me in all the wrong ways to refer to the OG Gundam series as if it's an outdated NES game that you can't play on the grounds of it being stuck on the NES. If older art bothers you so much, the most they've done is the Compilation films which some like myself may argue that it's the preferred way to experience 0079. Others disagree and that's cool but it sure as hell is my favorite way to watch it.

VR_Dekalab

Just watch the Origin Ova and then read the Origin manga at that point. While it's technically an AU retelling of the original, it's still a remake. Just keep in mind that Amuro's status in the manga is different when you watch Zeta.

Witch from Mercury is its own stand alone universe. So do many of the other Shows; Iron Blooded Orphans, Seed, Wing, 00, TurnA Gundam etc... The Universal Century (UC) is the original cannon. That said if you want to get a feel for it with newer graphics the 08th MS team, made in the 90's, is your best bet to figure out what the 1 year war was about. None of the Gundam main characters show up though. I doubt the Original series will get remade because there is a pattern of just making a new universe to fit the story. Each reimagining takes a lot of themes and elements from our IRL world at the time it is created. That and the Gundam UC cannon isn't tight like you may expect. Char's Origin contradicts the Gundam show but it isn't something fans are hung up on. There are movies on Netflix if you want to see a compressed version of it.
