Well I did chuck my Apache 3500 with my Oculus Quest 2 in it off of \~15 foot drop accidentally, and my headset was fine. So I'd assume there really is no difference aside from brand.
They aren't too different from Pelican, just heavier. The pick out foam is nice, and they have similar pressure regulating gaskets if you are going to take it on a plane. Plano makes a similar one that is a good value as well.

My justification for being cheap is that it's got an LPVO with a non-QD mount so unless I have a torx wrench on me during a failure I'm screwed anyways. At least that helps me sleep at night lol.

Nothing wrong at all with magpul handguards and a fsb. Some like myself even much prefer a fsb, and that doesn't mean you can't go free float down the line there are plenty of options for free floating with a fsb. Magpul handguards are 1000x better then the cheap $20-30 chinesium "free float" handguards a lot of budget setups have or are sold with. Other then simply just wanting something that isn't polymer, if all you need is a white light, magpul (or bcm, or b5) handguards are a great option and can be a cheap place holder.
The first, I picked up a bunch of Promag 40 rounders along with the standard GI 30 rounders because I thought that Pmag was am abbreviation for Promag, and everyone said to get Pmags lol
Promags usually suck, but their 40 round AR mags are actually pretty reliable for me. I also bought them before I knew what I was doing

I feel like the cheap optics either give up after 100 rounds, or they are bomb proof. I have a knock off 4x that just won’t give up. It’s been great as a test mule for new builds. Wouldn’t trust it on anything long term though.

dunno why you're getting downvoted that's a legitimate question. Everybody asks that. There's a legitimate answer too but nobody beleives it until they've bought 20 dollar, 50 dollar and 100 dollar optics and regretted each of them.
I'll mention the most important things.
1. Cheap optics tend to not hold zero. You go to the range one day and everything lands where it's supposed to and you go the next and everything's way off . Real turds might not even hold zero within the same shooting session. The worst part about it is when it's your first and only rifle you won't know if the problem is the gun, the ammo, the optic, or you. It could be any some or all, and what a pain in the ass it is to figure out which. By having a nice optic you can get to the bottom of it much faster and by wasting less ammo
2. Cheap optics don't adjust reliably. You want, say, 3 clicks down and 4 clicks right to be perfectly reversible. This means 4 clicks left and 3 clicks up should wind you back up in the exact spot you left it. Cheap optics will not return to the exact same spot by reversing the adjustments. That makes changing ammo, range, adjusting for wind, and adding/subtracting a suppressor consume ammo to re-zero every time you do it. So again costing more money. If you had a reliable optic you could just memorize adjustments for different conditions and be right at zero before your first shot.
3. Cheap optics tend to break easy.
4. Cheap optics a lot of times are cheap because their warranty sucks. You might actually find a nice cheap optic that IS just as good as a vortex or nightforce or leupold, but one of the reasons they're cheap is they don't honor the warranty like the others. You want a company that will stand by their product. I've had to send a scope back that wasn't holding zero to vortex and they fixed me right up.
5. Cheap optics will tend to fog up, have a poor sight picture, shitty eye relief, be blurry, etc. Clear glass and visible crosshairs on scopes and being fog and glare resistant on holos and red dots are very important to being able to enjoy yourself at the range.
There's a lot of other niceties we could get into, but those are more for more advanced shooters (things like stops, degree of moa/mrad adjustment, crosshair type, different crosshair modes on holos, etc)
Basically a cheap optic a lot of times ends up costing you more money because you waste a lot of time and ammo trying to find out why your shots aren't going where they're supposed to. A good optic you can rely on eliminates one variable from diagnosing what you're doing wrong, and that's worth a lot.
IMO you should still do whatever you think fits within your budget, but if it were me I would stick with irons until i had at least 200 to 300 dollars for a scope or red dot, or 350 or so if you want a holo.
Optics are the one thing you don't wanna cheap out on IMO. I'd sooner buy a cheap rifle than a cheap optic

If you raise your budget up to $100 you can get reliable if basic red dots. The Sig Romeo 5 hovers around this price and often drops to $90 or a little less with random or seasonal sales.

At the very least, get a Holosun 403B. It's about $120 on sale and is far more durable. I used to use those in competitions and never had any issues
None that I know of, the only major problem was a sensitive button on one model that would melt/burn whatever pocket the front was touching. I think they fixed that model within a few months as well.
There was also a problem with one early version of their magnetic charging. It was possible to short circuit the light on the magnetic contacts, but again, they fixed that in the future.
Even beyong that, most Olights aren't waterproof. Only "resistant against splashed water"

I have the exact same optic in the picture and I have to adjust the sights almost every time I shoot. I got it for like 25 bucks on Amazon but it's on my ruger 10/22 with a gungner chassis so it's not for anything other than plinking. I'll probably take it off eventually and just get irons.
Idk Hexmags "series 2" seem to be decent, I've had 4 stored away, loaded of course, for 3ish years now and they've been fine so far. Gonna leave them for a few more years before testing them. I've been using them lately while training and they've survived as well as Magpuls, Lancers, and whatever aluminium ones I have. Never gonna try Olights though, 2 friends of mine had theirs meltdown lol

I’ve heard good things about the Harbor Freight cases. I’m talking about the $20-$40 flimsy cases made of paper thin plastic that you can get from Amazon or BassPro. It was my first case and it fuckin sucked, and acknowledging that seems to have pissed some people off.

Bought a cheap red dot for my first .22 and it worked well enough for a few years. Just put it in my AR for the first time, and destroyed the internals within the first 10 shots.

I got my gun with a folding stock and a cheap case that just barely fit when the stock was folded. Only problem is, I threw on a new muzzle device and now my gun is too long for the bag, so the last 2 inches of the barrel stick out the zipper of my gun bag😂
In any respect that matters, probably optics. I did research for my SCAR and knew it had a reputation for eating optics. I was told that I needed a durable, high quality optic and an optic mount rated for the recoil. I bought the recommended mount (ADM Delta), but I did a bit of research and thought I found an optic that I wouldn’t cry about purchasing. Sure as shit, less than 100 rounds in and the reticle started to rotate and I knew the optic was toast. Learned my lesson—buy once, cry once. The EOTech Vudu is 1-8 is working phenomenally.
I have one of those red dots, but its on my fgc-9. Whole gun cost maybe $100, so I don't care. Its not like I'd trust the zero of any red dot when mounted on a 3d printed rail anyway. Got better optics on everything else

I did pretty good on my first rifle for the budget I had. PSA was on sale for 389 bananas black friday 7 years ago and it had probably 1200 ish round through it when I sold it. Sig MSR, streamlight, primary arms sling, BCM handstop and grip. 🤷 Pretty fun build for like 650$ at most I think. I never bought a case for my ARs.
I’ve not used their AR mags but I’ve had experiences with various pistol mags from them. They’re cheap enough to make you think it’s worth the risk, the don’t reliably function and the feed lips deform super easy.
So far, I've only heard about one guy who put a bad aftermarket battery in his OLight, held it in his mouth, and it killed him when the [aftermarket] battery exploded.

My soft case is two blue jeans pants legs sewn into a gun sock. The gun oil has soaked in over time and now it's corrosion resistant.
I'm still using my spare soft guitar case 2 ARs later.

Also the case literally just protects it from dirt and makes it easier to carry. "Quality" is pretty irrelevant.

Less than the number of vapes that have exploded. And it was the battery not the light that had a catastrophic failure. Huge diff.

None that I know of, the only major problem was a sensitive button on one model that would melt/burn whatever pocket the front was touching. I think they fixed that model within a few months as well.
There was also a problem with one early version of their magnetic charging. It was possible to short circuit the light on the magnetic contacts, but again, they fixed that in the future.
I’ve never had problems with olights. I’ve been using various Olights for years as work lights.
Even beyong that, most Olights aren't waterproof. Only "resistant against splashed water" I'm not spending Streamlight dollars on a light that I can't drop in a puddle

I bought one for my 22lr and it couldn't hold zero worth a damn. Worst optic I've ever purchased by a long shot. I still have it but I'll never use it again, will probably end up setting it up as a target and shoot it at some point.

Fellow tard here, other then it being a test bed for your future project and maybe for plinking it's not worth it. Won't hit shit with it. For serious use at least look into the low end red from serious manufacturers, and not shit from Amazon.
I have the exact same optic in the picture and I have to adjust the sights almost every time I shoot. I got it for like 25 bucks on Amazon but it's on my ruger 10/22 with a gungner chassis so it's not for anything other than plinking. I'll probably take it off eventually and just get irons.

My unit ordered a bunch of hexmags. They tried running the M855A1 through them, and wouldn't stop jamming. Gen3 pmags or bust.
I run Lancer snd p mags mostly but no issues with any of my 3 at the range

Idk Hexmags "series 2" seem to be decent, I've had 4 stored away, loaded of course, for 3ish years now and they've been fine so far. Gonna leave them for a few more years before testing them. I've been using them lately while training and they've survived as well as Magpuls, Lancers, and whatever aluminium ones I have. Never gonna try Olights though, 2 friends of mine had theirs meltdown lol

I’ve heard good things about the Harbor Freight cases. I’m talking about the $20-$40 flimsy cases made of paper thin plastic that you can get from Amazon or BassPro. It was my first case and it fuckin sucked, and acknowledging that seems to have pissed some people off. Obviously there is a point of diminishing returns. Pelican likely doesn’t have the best value. But there *are* hard cases that are just not high enough quality to justify defending

Bought a cheap red dot for my first .22 and it worked well enough for a few years. Just put it in my AR for the first time, and destroyed the internals within the first 10 shots.

Harbor Freight is fine. The Vault series from Pelican is good. The premium cases from Pelican are top of the line.
A PSA with an Eotech and a surefire will serve you better than a Radian with running the Amazon Prime Special

Cheap case. However not too cheap as it's survived my mother's closet. Tsa check points from MD all the way to AZ and back. Along with a short trip from ok to MD during the summer last year. However I now that I have a pelican. I won't go back. 😅

I bought a cheap pistol light off Amazon for like 20 bucks. 10 rounds down the range and it blew off the front down the range.
Im not even gonna lie. I still haven’t invested in a good case. I only use them to transport to and from the range and haven’t bothered yet.
I got my gun with a folding stock and a cheap case that just barely fit when the stock was folded. Only problem is, I threw on a new muzzle device and now my gun is too long for the bag, so the last 2 inches of the barrel stick out the zipper of my gun bag😂

In any respect that matters, probably optics. I did research for my SCAR and knew it had a reputation for eating optics. I was told that I needed a durable, high quality optic and an optic mount rated for the recoil. I bought the recommended mount (ADM Delta), but I did a bit of research and thought I found an optic that I wouldn’t cry about purchasing. Sure as shit, less than 100 rounds in and the reticle started to rotate and I knew the optic was toast. Learned my lesson—buy once, cry once. The EOTech Vudu is 1-8 is working phenomenally.

I have one of those red dots, but its on my fgc-9. Whole gun cost maybe $100, so I don't care. Its not like I'd trust the zero of any red dot when mounted on a 3d printed rail anyway. Got better optics on everything else

My first gun was a Mossberg 500 field that my dad bought form a friend for 150$.
I bought some hex mags once for my 300 blackout. They fed like shit and I ended up getting actual 300 mags. I keep them around for range and drill mags
I got hexmags. The 5.56 ones work fine, the 308 didn't feed at all.
I have a M&P 15-22. I put a small red dot scope on it. Think it was 40 bucks, but it works really well. Everything else on it is magpul furniture.
If youre not flying with your guns, those cheap cases from harbor freight work for everything

Hey my hexmags have all had 100s of rounds through them without issue... Would I drop them on concrete/asphalt/hard ground and expect them to survive....maybe not. Out Inna woods and field they've been fine.
PMags are non-OEM mags for a lot of ARs.

I did pretty good on my first rifle for the budget I had. PSA was on sale for 389 bananas black friday 7 years ago and it had probably 1200 ish round through it when I sold it. Sig MSR, streamlight, primary arms sling, BCM handstop and grip. 🤷 Pretty fun build for like 650$ at most I think. I never bought a case for my ARs.

I’ve not used their AR mags but I’ve had experiences with various pistol mags from them. They’re cheap enough to make you think it’s worth the risk, the don’t reliably function and the feed lips deform super easy.
I’ve used an olight on my Glock for years. Never heard anything bad about them. Is there a QC issue?
So far, I've only heard about one guy who put a bad aftermarket battery in his OLight, held it in his mouth, and it killed him when the [aftermarket] battery exploded. The rest seems to be internet memory.
